@@CTharunkrishnaVR Is it really? Your liver has an enzyme - alcohol dehydrogenase - that is specifically there to target any alcohol group. It prefers ethanol so it latches to that first thus depleting its availability. Therefore there is not enough AD left to latch to methanol to start the process of toxic methanol metabolites. It's floats around as a waste produce and as such your body wants to get rid of it so you piss it out or you have it removed from your blood via dialysis. You normally piss out some unmetabolized alcohol when you drink.
That’s not how fermentation or distillation works!!! if you were to take only the beginning and the end of the distillation you would have a potentially toxic substance. However it’s not gonna kill you that fast. It’s a small concentration. More importantly ethanol is actually an antidote to methanol. So if they are drinking moonshine they wouldn’t die in this way. Now drinking racing fuel which run on pure methanol you would be ingesting many many times more methanol without an antidote included. But the moonshine is an issue more long term as it builds up.

Their commander has off course found out, called the local barkeeper (in the middle of the night) and literally ordered them to keep drinking legal booze until they all passed out. Mostly because there were frequent cases of poisonings before from drinking homebrewed stuff and as such pretty high chance for that moonshine to be full of methanol. Then, after they recuperated and were pronounced "sound in mind and body" by company's doc, they all received 14 (2 weeks jail time, not fun at all since it adds up to your total conscription time and there is literally nothing to do in 5x10 feet cell) and spent next good three months "peeling potatoes" in addition to their regular training. Peeling potatoes was expression for the worst job you could possibly be assigned with including but not limited to latrine sh*t detail and other rather inconvenient tasks...
Aside from ethanol, there is another antidote for methanol poisoning. It's called Fomepizole and, like ethanol, it competes for the alcohol dehydrogenase, preventing your body from metabolizing methanol. Again, no formaldehyde and no subsequent formic acid. The problem is that Fomepizole is more expensive and less readily available than ethanol.
@@max3eey That's an interesting idea. None of the literature that I've read mentions disulfiram in the treatment protocols. Given that disulfiram also blocks the action of alcohol dehydrogenase, it might work as well. The problem is that disulfiram can cause nasty side effects in its own right, including visual disturbances and heart failure. What the video didn't mention is that people who have ingested significant amounts of methanol often require hemodialysis to remove the methanol, and its metabolites from their blood. The antidotes give you time to get the patient onto a dialysis machine.
