Could you show what happens when a person snap their neck/ head.
Lol. That’s the funniest tasteless joke I’ve heard in ions.

Until you drink alcohol
Average bottle of skooma.
naw u gotta drink milk
So the moral, if you have moonshine, also buy a bottle of hard liquor
Both are hard liquor though. I think you might be an alcoholic. 😂
nah, the actual moral is, if you have moonshine, have all kinds of drinks... at the same time.
And that kids, is why there is an IV bag of vodka hanging in a refrigerator in every ER. Seriously, it's 40% ethanol, in an IV bag.
I about crapped when I first saw one; before I learned what it was for, I was like "Damn, doctors know how to party!".
never knew that!
fun fact, if you get an enema of ethanol, you die almost immediately.
Yum
So the thing is,if I accidentally happen to drink something that contains methanol I can ingest vodka and I will be fine? Seriously? Will I just not faint or puke or will my situation go more worse? It's confusing💀
@@CTharunkrishnaVR Is it really? Your liver has an enzyme - alcohol dehydrogenase - that is specifically there to target any alcohol group. It prefers ethanol so it latches to that first thus depleting its availability. Therefore there is not enough AD left to latch to methanol to start the process of toxic methanol metabolites. It's floats around as a waste produce and as such your body wants to get rid of it so you piss it out or you have it removed from your blood via dialysis. You normally piss out some unmetabolized alcohol when you drink.
i love how you don't just say the effects that a substance causes, you also go into detail how each organ processes it and then the outcome.
would love to see a video on how deliriants work, i can't find much good information on how different deliriants are processed in the body.
Ever taken one too many Benadryl?
@@brendanschmitz321 one too many?
if "one too many" means taking 33 times the reccomended dose then no.
@@alexstrauss5264 32 doses of benadryl is fine. 33 doses will kill you instantly.
It wasn’t racing fuel, more then likely a super strong moonshine full of methanol heads that weren’t dumped.
Very dangerous too.
Wait is coser also have/contain any methanol ie wood alcohol?
That’s not how fermentation or distillation works!!! if you were to take only the beginning and the end of the distillation you would have a potentially toxic substance. However it’s not gonna kill you that fast. It’s a small concentration. More importantly ethanol is actually an antidote to methanol. So if they are drinking moonshine they wouldn’t die in this way. Now drinking racing fuel which run on pure methanol you would be ingesting many many times more methanol without an antidote included.
But the moonshine is an issue more long term as it builds up.
@@danielcurtis1434Begining and end? Doesnt the methanol come out in the beginning part only?
@@hx5525Yes, however there are also other toxic compounds that are less volatile than ethanol. So you really want what’s referred to as “the heart” (essentially the middle portion. Sorry I wasn’t entirely clear.
@@hx5525 yes methanol should be in the beginning. However there are other toxic or flavor impairing chemicals in the end run. What you want is the middle section or the “heart”.

Ngl I thought this was a Chubbyemu vid when I saw the notification lmao.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought it and he'll be thinking 'Someone's stepping on my toes... gonna need to solve that problem.'
same. also i immediately scrolled through the comments looking for someone to say this.
He mentioned the mitochondria the power house of the cell, sure sounds like chubbyemu lol
I still remember my grandfather's story about how he and his friends in their local army company (was in late 1950s) once bought and started drinking some moonshine pegged by bunch of gypsies as it was dead cheap and only thing available practicaly behind barracks wall. Their commander has off course found out, called the local barkeeper (in the middle of the night) and literally ordered them to keep drinking legal booze until they all passed out. Mostly because there were frequent cases of poisonings before from drinking homebrewed stuff and as such pretty high chance for that moonshine to be full of methanol.
Then, after they recuperated and were pronounced "sound in mind and body" by company's doc, they all received 14 (2 weeks jail time, not fun at all since it adds up to your total conscription time and there is literally nothing to do in 5x10 feet cell) and spent next good three months "peeling potatoes" in addition to their regular training. Peeling potatoes was expression for the worst job you could possibly be assigned with including but not limited to latrine sh*t detail and other rather inconvenient tasks...

Aside from ethanol, there is another antidote for methanol poisoning. It's called Fomepizole and, like ethanol, it competes for the alcohol dehydrogenase, preventing your body from metabolizing methanol. Again, no formaldehyde and no subsequent formic acid. The problem is that Fomepizole is more expensive and less readily available than ethanol.
Wait sp why is it matter if they are merely mixed together? And either way why not simply mix the two
What about disulfiram?
@@max3eey ?
@@max3eey That's an interesting idea. None of the literature that I've read mentions disulfiram in the treatment protocols. Given that disulfiram also blocks the action of alcohol dehydrogenase, it might work as well. The problem is that disulfiram can cause nasty side effects in its own right, including visual disturbances and heart failure. What the video didn't mention is that people who have ingested significant amounts of methanol often require hemodialysis to remove the methanol, and it's metabolites from their blood. The antidotes give you time to get the patient onto a dialysis machine.

You are by far the best science channel ever. Because you dont just tell the effects but you explain the mechanism behind it. You are the best. Keep up the good work.

I don’t know if you had known but very recently 23 minors had died in eastern cape, South Africa. The reason was because they drank beer made of methanol. It’s horrible
You know, I actually searched up an down the internet to find cases where a large group of people died of methanol poisonings. The one I found was actually pretty hard to find. I wonder if this case may be only known regionally on South Africa
what was the thought process behind dewshine? “nooo dude whiskey and mountain dew sounds dumb and gross we should use RACING FUEL instead”
They probably read "methanol" in the can and thought "hey alcohol is ethanol right? Methanol sounds close enough"
@@joaorichter9970 "it's just another letter in the name, how bad can it possibly be?"

Dang bro. Dewshine sounds terrifying. Methanol B A D
Love the overall style of your video, it's chill with some jazz music
thanks!
The more I learn about biology and chemistry, the more I realize that it's how our liver converts something that really determines the situation. (What if the Liver gets bypassed thru intravenous injection?) Would that alter how certain molecules effected our body?
Oh my God I thought this was Chubbyemu because of the title and thumbnail, I was so confused when I went to the Channel and couldn't find any memes on the community tab
I love how the cure to methanol poisoning is to simply go and get more shit faced.
isn't also the cure for antifreeze poisoning 😂
I have never heard anyone call methanol “racing fuel”
Methanol was used before. I think in Indycars but banned because it burns invisibly. Remember the Ricky Bobby bit where thought he was on fire? That was based on an actual pit accident involving methanol
It can still be used as a racing fuel today
*Chubyemu music playing in my head throughout*
Hey. I just found your channel today through your video "Anatomy of a headshot" being recommended to me. I am now addicted to your content xD Keep up the great work!
(Btw. I really apreciate the sources in the video description. Many channels don't do that.)
Just a nitpick, but the cytochorme c oxidase (COX) doesn't actually produce the ATP, that's done by the ATPase. But the COX Enzyme plays an important part in the reaction chain leading up to the production of ATP. So the ATP can't be produced because a previous step is missing. But other than that, great video!
House M.D S2 E1 had a case like this. Dramatized obviously, but part of the cure was getting the patient drunk. Clip on RUclips called: The only time drinking is acceptable during work.
Nice video format, keep making more of them!
i got an add for red bull that had racing in it
i think this is a sign to drink racing fuel
This video was great dude! keep up the good work :D
Thanks a ton!
These Videos are so entertaining i swear
Amazing video man.
Miss ya. Re learned again stuff. 👍😁

I let out the loudest "UH OH" when I heard formaldehyde in the living body.
thanks, I learned this once but then I forgot it, so this was a super helpful review

Questions for Science: I wonder what would happen if I drank gasoline..
Pretty nice, thanks for this video! I can add an information. The methanol can be obtained in fermentation process from pectin, found in the cell walls of plant materials, an enzime is responsible for demethoxylation of galacturonic acid monomers, one of the products of this process is methanol. I m whiskey and beer productor, I know how correctly separate the ethanol from methanol and others components which can contaminate the beverage. I m sorry, but I don't have the references here now, you can find about this topic in literature using key words: methanol, pectinmethylesterase, pectin, alcohol fermentation...
Just discovered this channel and I'm surprised you don't have millions of views, good job👏
Thank you!
That would be a superspeed trip to afterlife.
This should be taught to people in alcohol education courses so that people know (1) the symptoms of methanol poisoning and (2) the antidote.
Two young men brutally died from a poisonous concoction at a party. What could have caused this? BUT FIRST A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR-

Crazy how dangerous a small dose is and how easy it is to buy methanol.
isopropanol will kill you pretty easily too and it's super easy to buy as well.
It's not really crazy. I can go to ace hardware and get tons of different chemicals.
Well you can easily poison someone if you know what your doing you can poison someone with just the fruit in the grocery store just look at apples you can produce cyanide with it
rocks be dangerous and those bitches be free
You shouldnt drink stuff that you can buy at the hardware store lol... not that crazy
I really thought for a second it was a new Chubbyemu video lol

I dont know why but you have the perfect voice for this
I love your videos bro
I learn too much very good topic and good tutorials 👌👍
Very eager for the red dot to come out in my subscription page on RUclips and saw you uploaded 😘❤️
so in theory you could drink MORE methanol if you just combine some everclear with it. Gotcha
Methanol smells entirely different from ethanol, so it's very possible to tell the difference.
So in conclusion: if you want to get drunk with methanol, make sure that u also drink ethanol
Thanks
Great video! 🤗✨💖
brilliant.
Wow!!thanks, I was juat wondering this morning what would happen if I drank racing fuel🤔
Methanol was never really used as "racing furl" there was some notable experimentation with methanol fuel mixtures in the 1990s, but since it's significantly less efficient than ethanol, it's not used at all.
Ethanol has a better reputation as "racing fuel" where as methanol is mostly used in mouthwash.
the Jim Gaffigan clip was perfectly timed!
I didn't get why the optic nerve dies first. is it the weakest/thinest or why die These cells and not other nerve cells?
Love your videos. Really sad we get them once a month. Would appreciate smaller gaps
I like ur video, as a student, your video is hilarious and also very ez to undestand
Well i wasn't curious RUclips auto play gave my this gem and its right up my ally
Its been a long time since you uploaded
6:08 lol I learned this from The Walking Dead
Methonal vaporizers at lower temp than ethanol does so it will allways come out first in a distillation. Also you can smell a difference in methanol and ethanol especially if its coming out of a still fresh. Methanol has a much fouler odor
Who's seen the episode of House M.D. starring LL Cool J?
The ethanol treatment for methanol poisoning is covered in it
Wow, I’m really glad I only drink about two beers a year.
I tried to name a video like Chubbyemu Here is how my channel shut down.
Nothing feels better than learning gruesome science with relaxing music
Well damn. What genius thought of that?
You run 9 second passes on stock internals
*let's make this a new **#TIKTOK** CHALLENGE!!!*
Like you said if you drank something that is ethanol/methanol you have mess up pretty bad to have enough methanol in moonshine. That could happen it you distilled a water heater and drank the first glass that came out ot it more or less by itself.
That midroll placement 😂
o.o is that true at 2:46? Like about formaldehyde? I thought it was a solid as in what they use for the making of glueboards/"roach prison"
so... technically if i accidentally drank a small amount of methanol say 30ml and then procced to drink ethanol like 6 beers, nothing would happen? I still would't try it but technically it would work right?
Methanol is present in any non-distilled alcoholic beverages.
Love your videos. Please please make moreee ‼️‼️⚠️🤗😍 & more & more & more 🙏🏾
They cured methanol poisoning by doing shots in a House episode lol
i cannot imagine this was good for mountain dew pr, considering they had a citrus flavored mountain dew available from 2015-2017 called dewshine
So do you actually pee vinegar when you get drunk? Or is the acetic acid further converted?!
And formic acid is also the stuff ants produce right?!
Isn't that the exact premise of the "Turbo" movie?
You will definitely become speed
Good video
since it flows through your body why is the optic nerve the only one affected and we dont have cases of other nerve destructions e.g vagus, olfactory?
I thought about this too. I would assume there is other nerve damage along with the optic nerve. However, I think it tends to get overlooked because blindness is much more dramatic and there gets more attention. I would be willing to bet if you spoke to a doctor who has seen non-lethal methanol poisoning they would agree there is other nerve damage too.
"how did the two teens die?"
... having just explained they drank a shlt ton of race fuel, I'd have thought thats where the video would have ended.
So how the methanol testing are conducted?
The fact that anyone would be dumb enough to think that race cars and humans can safely consume the same products is astounding.
Race cars and humans both consume air
@@ellisjackson3355 True lol.
You go turbo!
Dang
If you lack alcohol dehydrogenase, are you able to drink methanol and have no effects? Since you wouldn’t be able to metabolize it
I'm disappointed there was no "In case you're wondering, the people responsible for the deaths are in prison" the way there was in the toilet water episode.
Methanol is also the reason why you get a hangover or headache from getting tanked lol
It's actually a dirty alcohol. Not just racing fuel. It's generally used as a solvent.
sounds like something id do lmao
