2005 in red original owner here. They are FAST already. I did a 10.04 at dragstrip stock. Save your $$$ for tires and practice. And maybe a clutch eventually, lol. Bike is a beast right off the floor.
depends on how you ride.. Rosso 3 are a good soft tire, so they will have an excellent grip, but will wear down fairly fast. Michelin Road 4s are good for mostly all road/highway riding - longer life.
Gorgeous, I have nearly identical, everywhere I ride, people gawk, and complement the bike. I was riding a 98, bought new, until July 22, in September I bought an 05 used, RED, with the Devil slipons and the exup, intact.
The EXUP valve has nothing to do with emissions. It regulates back pressure and boosts midrange torque. Eliminating it is not the best idea unless you just want a loud system on the bike.
@@fishmonger3796 but do you get that low end torque back with that tune? Eliminating the backpressure might not be fully remedied with a tune. From what I've read, full systems give more high rpm hp but can't give you the low end torque you get with an EXUP.
@Christopher Nuzzo too right ✅️ , uprating an exhaust system is always a compromise, quoted gains are usually aimed @ gigh up in the rev range, everything has a price & its @ the cost of low / mid range . They don't often show you losses . The sweet spot is a half system from exup back to keep the exup then a power commander, & a map . Its the best all round. But then again if its a track bike & you only keep the bike above 8k rpm , then yea full system all the way . But for fast road use gotta leave that exup in place
The audio is muddy and giving me a headache but I like the contents. It shows how much heavy garbage you can throw away! EXUP has been around for decades and has been copied by the other manufacturers. Yamaha has always claimed it "tunes" the exhaust for more low-mid torque, but you have to wonder if it's actually noise/emissions related. The hoses certainly are, and I swear the ugly "Hydrofoil" license plate mounts are part of deal with the aftermarket companies. The emissions standards are only getting worse and make for very lean running engines which also run hot. It's great that they can still be bypassed but enjoy your gas engines while you can. They are going bye-bye.
Caleb Ford congrats man. There's an 08 cbr600rr for sale near me and also a 04 r1. The r1 is $500 less. I'm stuck between deciding which to buy. I started on a Yamaha r3 for a few months and I occasionally ride my friends gsxr1000 just fine. Which bike would you guys recommend?
MotoMaximus the Cbr has 20,000miles. Yoshimura exhaust,Custom grips, and shorty levers. The r1 has 18,000 miles. Two brothers exhaust and levers. I'm not sure if it has power Commander. The r1 is from a dealership. The Cbr is private owner.
I think the R1 would be a better option as long as it’s clean. For reference, I got my 04 for $5k with 8k miles, with some of the mods you saw in the vid (private party).
What is the current mileage of the bike. Did you change the generator rotor with updated one. I heard that old type of rotor have problem with magnets, they tend to fall of the rotor and mess the stator, magnets are glued inside rotor. It is advisable to change the rotor bearings too. Yamaha never recall this and they installed same type of generator rotor into 04-08 R1 and FZ1 up to 2014. Another thing is starter motor, it get dirty inside from brush wear, hard to start when engine is hot, real pain in the ass to pull it out (must remove throttle bodies) and put i back in. Two components poorly designed by Yamaha.
I just bought a used 08 r1 & the stator cover has been off & resealed with black gasket sealer & i guess reading your comment makes sense now that it had previously failed , or mayb replaced before a failure, mines @ 22k miles . Cheers
I have a power commander on the bike, so I tweaked the map a bit. I read that it helped to lean it out a bit up to 5k, if I remember correctly. I can pull the map up and see exactly what I set it to if you are interested.
Bro I wanted to ask you regarding this R1 2004,how is the clutch pull on it? I had a gsxr600 k6 ,clutch pull was not so nice…hard, brought it to service, they said everything ok with clutch,my wrist is fucked up only looks like, thats why I am asking xD
The pull on the 04-08 is much lighter than the following generations… I’ve owned the 2012 and now 2021 R1 and the pull is miserable. I ended up installing the RSC stunt clutch lever which made it so much lighter and better. I highly recommend you doing the same.
Just make sure you have the 3 wire signals. If you get the 2 wire, those do NOT have “running light” capability. They will only flash when turn signal is engaged.
Yes, bike will start up fine. Do your gauges work or no power to them? If no power, check your battery connections. If the bike turns on but won’t crank, double check if there is a wiring issue with your power commander (I assume you installed that too). Make sure the power wires from the power commander are connected to the battery and it’s plugged into the wiring harness.
@@MotoMaximus right now light turn on. Battery volt is at 12.9. All i did was replace oem with full titanium exhaust. The exhuast plug is disconnected i dont have the exup plug. @@MotoMaximus and it doesn't need it if you learn to clutch upshift fast. Installed on my 2006, costed around €300 (iQSeasy). A must to install is the GEAR INDICATOR!!! Annoying when I'm in 6th and pull for 7.... :) It's what I'm installing this spring...
FYI two people watching this video block off plates are in no way a performance mod. You would also have to remove it if you wanted the bike tuned or wanted to use an auto-tune system. But it is in no way a performance mod.
Poor Boy Racing , installing the plates is a performance mod in getting rid of excess weight, clutter, and improving rideability. Yanking the hoses, stock pipes and ecu is all part of making the bike run better and faster.
Dig the Ti Graves for sound & power Added an Ohlins shock (setup from Graves) transformed the bike up another level.
Keep the rubber side down 🤙🏼
Great video. Thanks for sharing the fixes with information on why the items caused problems and what you bought to remedy them.

04 best looking r1 over all
I would say the 2004 - 2008. Cool that they went with the Crossplane but made the side fairings so ugly in 2009.

It's a fair point, I use hand signals in addition, when practical. I've seen a mod the turns the upper fairing running lights into turn signals.
