Seth Holds a Surprise Inspection of His Monologue Writers in October 2023 - Late Night with Seth Meyers

Late Night with Seth Meyers

I wish there was a segment where all the writers make fun of Seth
Yeah, They should call it "Jokes Seth Can't Tell"
That segment would be a camera in the writer's room.
@@solomonrex3955great idea!
There is. It's the monolog.
Seth trips over some good jokes. This segment could be great.
Then again, we already have corrections.
Maybe some writers should do an episode of corrections
Seth: *tells a joke about dead kids in the ball pit*
Me, clenching my teeth in anger: "Scollins."
I’m imagining this in a very Dinkleberg like tone.
You can always tell a Scollins
Ditto.
(Shakes fist at the sky) Scoliiiiiiiiiins!
That one had my daughter on the floor. 😝
I'm increasingly appreciating Scollins even though he is clearly disturbed.
Fine line between madness and genius and all that 😂
I need a whole episode of Scollins jokes.
Scollins has always been a winner in my heart. Myers has no taste.
@@ZeroFacade0
Meyers has taste...
That's why he's always trying to close on a Scollins joke.
The decision to have subtitles explaining the puns (like celery [salary]) is just next level lol
Duty/doody! 😂
I mean, it is also really useful for people like me who aren't native speakers and might not get some of the jokes without it. Also.
The editor is a stealthy jackal
The French bed bug joke genuinely could have been in the monologue and it would have been great regardless
I admit, I chuckled at that one.
That was legit a hilarious joke 💀
I have found that there seems to be at least one joke per Inspection that you really coulda put in the show...
That one was solid!
My favorite part of this segment is how every time the audience laughed at one of these jokes, Seth looked like he felt a little betrayed by the joke's success.
Normally, we guess which jokes was written by Mike Scollins, but crediting him in Surprise Inspection is making him a legend!
He's turning more and more into a pro wrestling villian with every inspection! I approve.
Scollins is a legend!
We need scollins merch asap. Like him holding a pitchfork wearing devil horns 🤷♂️
@@tonylegg2434 or Seth's tank top with the Scollins pic on it.
im starting to be able to guess, scollins is the dark humor guy, brian, matt and ian are the punners, karen's are cute but indecipherable and ally is usually specific humor that takes some prior factoid knowledge but is just barely bad. also matt likes deep sitcom references, as for his brilliant frasier roger maris joke. eating lunch with brian matt and ian would likely be fun.
I hope they keep this segment. I LOVE hearing these.
There's 10+ of these from before the strike, they do one every month or so.
will look for em. i thought they only did the "jokes i can't tell" thing.@@markdlo
@@kngtrdr_you would also enjoy corrections! His best online content honestly is corrections and this writers bit.
YES!! He's been doing them for a while now, look them up, they're amazing! Those of us who have been watching them since the beginning can clearly identify Scollins jokes hahaha!! 🤣🤣
I love that Seth took Late Night and made it his own by playing to his strengths, but the thing I really love that Conan O'Brien also used to when he hosted Late Night, was credit and give the spotlight to his writers. Both Conan and Seth started as staff writers, so I'm guessing that's where it comes from.
Still shocked that Scollins was strike Captain. "Corpses in the McDonald's ball pit" was the man responsible for bringing back Late Night. Let that sink in.
No other late night show showcases their writing staff as much as Seth. I feel like I genuinely know Mike, Ian, Karen, Allie and the others so well and I love it so much. Kudos to you, Seth for highlighting the amazing talent on your show!
Nice work on strike captaining Scollins, and thank you for all the morbid jokes. So good to have Late Night back. I've missed whingeing about niche and inane points from episodes in the comments.
I like that he gave him his due credit for that.
I'm with the audience, the bedbug joke was brilliant. Like most of these were either "huh?" or "oh, heh." I heard "itchy itchy" and legitimately laughed. The bear joke gets a very honorable mention. In spite of Seth's reasonable issue with it, it was still a great pun.
Scollins is genuinely becoming my favorite. Shamu to Eggo' back to back? Dude was in his Birkin that day
About 67% convinced Seth is using this segment purely as an excuse to tell Scollins' dirty jokes on TV
Scollins jokes are pure gold. If anything, they are just too brutal for Seth's late night persona.
OK, Canadian breast milk was hilarious
As a canadian mom, the maple syrup joke was just perfect.
"Garnish my celery" 😂😂😂🤣🤣 not gonna lie, that floored me and I don't know why❤🙈
Give me a segment of Mike Scollins jokes.... call it "Oh God..." 😂
I just cant get over how happy Seth seems to be back at work with all his crew! Hes the best host going at the moment, I look forward to watching the segments with Seth more than any celebrity they have on. So great!
This segment is magical because you feel both the genuine love Seth has for his staff, and also, the genuine hatred he has for his staff. 🙂
This entire segment is just 8 minuets of Dad Jokes and I LOVE IT!
as a jackal I feel the same!, and I also feel an uncontrollable urge to look for 8 minuets :) Haydn? Mozart?
🐾
I'm so proud of my ability to recognize Scollins jokes, the man is a legend
Nothing wrong with Ian’s joke. Everybody knows that you have to fight for your right to pâté.
if you dont know the words to the song, you can hummus a tune.
@@ryanweible9090groan! 😂
You guys are the best 😅😅😅😅
🤣😂🤣🤣
this is great!!@@ryanweible9090
The bear on a boat part genuinely tickled me
It deserved a louder groan, IMHO.
I legit scream out in joy when I correctly guess a Scollins joke! I love this segment! I missed this whole crew!! Congratulations, and welcome back!! ❤❤❤
The "celery" joke is fantastic. I'm a phonologist (I study pronunciation/accents) and as a linguist, I declare puns the most linguistically complex form of humor and will die on that hill. He took a groan-worthy pun and elevated it to high art by making the changed vowel topical by connecting it to the regional accent (that feature is often called "Canadian raising" though it happens throughout the northern US as well)
The Bear Sterns Joke was Gold
This should be made into a game show! Does anyone else wish they could buzz in, and guess which writer wrote which joke??
Many of us jackals already do that!
Definitely need to make this segment a (X- formerly known as) Twitter poll
More about how will the joke end.
This is a drink game segment.
Guess who wrote it...
...wrong guesses take a shot.
Dear Matt,
Your Usher joke made me laugh out loud 😂
Huge fan. Keep up the good work!
And am I crazy or something? Sporting events definitely have ushers.
@@charleswebber8243 I thought the ushers at sports events were the guys that check your ticket before they let you into the section of seating or not.
I don't know why but the "I cough when things go well" was actually probably one of the best jokes.
I love how this segment has been going on long enough that I can pick out which ones were written by Mike, and which ones were written by Matt
Ypu can usually guess Karen's too.
To be fair, you can't spell Brian without Ian 😆
😂 You could be besties with Ian and Brian!
I'll bet that's their little bestie motto
Someone earned their way to Brian and Ians desk!!
I’ve been laughing periodically throughout the day from that bear on a boat joke 😂😂
Missing the contributions from Karen and Amber. But great to see Scollins getting his deserved prominence, the McD's Halloween celebrations was truly, um, special.
^^^ Scollins roasting Seth on air is a bucket list thing 😂
Aw, nothing from Karen this time? Hers are always so sweet and innocent. She's the Anti-Scollins.
that would be a funny skit, her and scollins doing the angel and devil on seths shoulder for situations that could have a dark or cute joke applied.
Yeah, Karen doesn’t seem to have a mean bone in her body.
This segment feels like a community game that were are all playing "together" by guessing the writer before they are revealed. 😅
As a born and bred Canadian, all I can say is: Scollins!!!!!
I'd love to hear what the writers really think about this inspection lol. I can only imagine they are not insulted by it and take it in stride. But I would still love to know what they think lol! Plus it would be great if they could come back at Seth with bad jokes he has had or come up with!
I think Seth has said they view it as a badge of honor! 😊
I'm so genuinely happy that creative people are getting a better deal. We're *ALL* very happy to have you and the team back, Seth.
Sincerely, jackal 1701
This is how writer’s rooms work. It’s hilarious! They make fun of each other and themselves and love every minute of exposure as they’re usually behind the scenes.
I really appreciate Scollins. I'm going to be looking for his hits from now on.
Also, the writers should roast Seth. For justice.
Somehow it doesnt shock me at all that Scollins was the strike captain. I can totally see it.
Missed this soooo much.... And yes I too have been able to guess the Strike Captain's jokes before the reveal...
I’m thinking the only thing better than a Scollins joke would be having Scollins read a Scollins joke. But only if he sounds like he looks in his picture.
CORRECTION: There ARE ushers at football games. Maybe not high school, but when you're talking ticket numbers, there's ushers. They work for the venues.
‘Garnish my celery’ was a banger 😂
Scollins’ Canadian breast milk joke was a great one
Good god I missed Surprise Inspection! I was just last night watching the old ones for good times sake, and thought ‘they should do one for after the strike’
Before the strike, I praised Seth and the crew for being so open about the importance of the writers, and this segment for bringing the writers to the forefront. Making them characters on the show is genius, and I’d wager a not insignificant reason there was so much support for the strike. Thanks, Late Night Gang!
Also, I’m ashamed to admit that I’m a Scallins fan, every time Seth tells a yikesy joke, I shake my fist at the sky saying ‘Scallins!!!’ Even though sometimes it’s Ally or Ian. Sell a Late Night staff shirt with Wally, Scallins, Amber, Jenny, Buck, Mikey the Shoe, Jim the security guard, Tara from Graphics, and all the other characters that support the Desk Boy.
I respect that boat joke. Good wholesome boat pun. It's the kind of joke you can share with your grandparents.
I laughed out loud with the paté joke 😂
I love how you can absolutely know which ones come from the demented mind of Scollins.
I love how Mike Scollins jokes aren't bad they are just all too offensive but still hilariously funny, its made even better by the fact that the picture they used, he just looks like someone whose always mad which really fits the persona of this man
The last one about the ball pit was hilarious.
Only Seth could willingly make a segment that is MEANT to grind the show to a halt
I love that everyone else got a headshot and Mike Scollins got the most scumbaggy photo they could find
Oh my gosh, the doodie free joke 😂 I guffawed, y’all.
The bear on the boat joke was quality dad humor!
Actually i laughed and cried at the same time hearing Kate/Meghan's joke and the bedbugs in France 😂 well done to the writers 👏
Hey! Every Scollins joke is usable!!!
That Usher joke was **hilarious** and I will die on that hill.
I love these segments. They give me hope that maybe, someday, I too could become a comedy writer.
I love inspection!😂😂😂
that “corpses in the ballpit” joke is an instant classic
Ian and Brain are KILLING IT, btw. Those puns were well worth the strike!
They must both be fathers.
I’ll have to remember that they seem to do a lot of puns, when I’m trying to guess who does which joke.
@@lynnhettrick7588 the only spoiler is that matt puns too, so sometiems he is the false positive. also their style is really close, so its hard to tell them apart.
As a Canadian, I approve of milk joke
Seth: Most of them [the writers] don't watch the show.
*Wally and Scollins chuckling and strolling in late to Corrections*
Seth: Is nothing sacred anymore?!
I LOVE how you can tell a Scollins joke before Seth even says it.
Definitely a fan of the Megan and Kate joke. That was legit hilarious!
My favorite thing about this segment is Seth’s continuing disdain for “SSSKAAAAALIINNNNZZ”.
There actually are ushers at football games. They check tickets and help some (mostly drunk) people find their seats. I know I do it part time. 😉
I'm Canadian, Mike Scollins' joke eggo joke was hilarious 😂😂
That Megan Markle joke 💀🤣
Scollins missed the bullseye, could have called it “Shamuse-bouche“
Was sooo waiting for this 😊 thanks!
Make a Roast of Seth at the end of the season by the writers.
I think Scollins and I share a similar type of humor.
Absolutely love these abs love that Seth cares about his writers so much
The bow and stern joke is hilarious
The instant the wheelchair appeared.... SCOLLINS! 😅
I love these, I hope we get these more often, until it's a regular segment!!
Now this is lovely 🥰
I laughed way too hard about the corpses in the ball pit!
4:00 I went to high school with Ian. As soon as I heard that joke, I fucking knew it was him. That's such an Ian joke, you have no idea. Hahaha.
I think I speak for all Canadians when I say the maple syrup milk joke was completely fair.
I can’t believe I liked Scollins’ breastmilk joke! 😂
Seth should try that onion on the feet thing😂
It's weird that Amber and Jenny never have bad jokes on this segment.
Not all the writers do the monologue.
They're busy working on jokes that Seth can't tell.
I feel like I've definitely seen Jenny jokes in these but I may be misremembering
This is Seth picking out the really "so bad they're good" jokes and highlighting them anyway
Huge pâté had me howling!!
Fun concept, well delivered. Love this segment
Long live surprise inspection!
that Lady Marmalade joke was actually pretty good haha
I love the writers 💚
The maple milk joke was honestly hilarious
Can't believe that at no point during the nautical bear joke did they mention giving it a wide berth.
bessssssssst surprise inspection so far!! love late night
😂😂🤣 My new favorite segment.
Keep them coming 👍
Allie’s dog joke involving the urn is still one of my all-time favs
