He has written so many songs that were hits for other people before he started recoding them himself..He's been doing it from the 50's. There are videos of him from that time. You should listen to "blue eyes crying in the rain", you'll love it.
Another vote for "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain"
Yes, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain is my favourite Willie Nelson song
Add me to that list "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is a must.
Blue Eyes is one of my top songs of all time.
I'll add my vote for this, too. "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" is one of my top 3 all time favorite songs.
Can't ever go wrong with Willie !❤️
Willie is a national treasure.
@@mikemaricle9941 and to think he was always stoned..luv it
Willie has written over 300 songs. Many hits. A great entertainer and a very underrated guitar player. He's really a great picker.
U N D E R A P P R E C I A T E D, NOT UNDERATED... What is underrated is un derstanding the definitions of words by the masses...
Indeed one of the greatest guitarists alive today.
@@Wolverines77 underrated means not valued highly enough. I think it can apply is this person's comment. Maybe you should spend some time reflecting on why you deem it necessary to waste your time incorrectly correcting others.
"Crazy" is a song written by Willie Nelson and popularized by country singer Patsy Cline in 1961. Willie did a nice job singing it himself.
I didn't know that Willy wrote that. Thank you. Love Willie, love Patsy Kline....
I didn't know that either. That is literally crazy.
Cline
Good 'ol Willie. If you dive into this rabbit hole, do "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys" and "To All The Girls I've Loved Before."
You don't even have to be a Willie Nelson fan to love this tune!! It's just so pure and dare I say soulful!
Woman who plays the piano, is Willie's older sister, Bobbie Nelson. She is 90 while Willie is 88. Both of them are still active.
When we lose Willy, it is going to be a sad, sad day. Thanks for reacting to Willy. One of the greatest country and western singer/songwriters and probably the biggest proponent of weed in history. It was always headline news when Willy's tour bus would get stopped by the cops on the highway (no pun intended) and he'd get busted for possession. (This was before laws had loosened up over weed) News stations would be filming when Willy was released from the cop shop and Willy always walked out with a big ole grin on his face basically saying, "Til next time, guys."....and there were a lot of next times. lol Take care and be well, guys. Peace.
The man is a National Treasure...PERIOD!
His version of Blue eyes crying in the rain,Angel flying too close to the ground, and especially Stardust are the best!!
The guitar solo in AFTCTTG is awesome..
Excellent choices, all three!
The whole Stardust album is GREAT!
My music alarm is Willie singing Angel flying to close to the ground. Ever time I try to change it to another song to wake up to , I keep coming back. His voice and the guitar and this song, is a perfect way to wake up
Damn, I forgot about "Stardust"...thanks for picking that one.
That’s his sister on piano. Can never go wrong with Willie. He has a very unmistakable voice and even more unmistakable guitar sound.
Sadly His Sister Passed Away This Past Summer, Leaving Willie Obviously Devastated. 💔💔💔
and he also has an unique voice, that is hard to copy, the only one who comes close to his voice is his son, if you hear his son sing this song and close your eyes, it's willy all over again he is truly one of the true living country legends
@@colinshard8665 yeah when they covered dont breathe by Pearl Jam I listened to that song ALOT with out realizing his son signs with him and they didn’t put featuring Lucas
Willie's phrasing is spectacular. Like he's having a conversation.
He is an outstanding songwriter and singer and guitar player.
Love this "original" version!! Willie is a sing writing Genius!!
You should check out "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and "Angel Flying too Close to the Ground"
Willie didn't write this and it was recorded before him. This is a cover.
Blue eyes crying in the rain is absolutely lovely. Ooooh they should check out Highwaymen.
This is not an original version, Willie has done many, many covers
Yes by all means check those two song out
It was written by Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James, then first released by Gwen McCrae in 1972. Brenda Lee and Elvis also released a version in 1972. Willie did his version in 1982.
"Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is a signature song of Willie's.
A song Willie covered that's great is "Pancho and Lefty" that he did with another country legend Merle Haggard. Written by a great song writer Townes Van Sant. I think you should check it out! Great reaction as always guys!
Just bought that album on vinyl. Original print. One of the best country disc ever!
Emmylou Harris does a good version of that song too.
@@p.j.graham9395 nice!
@@fnjesusfreak That is very true!
Great tune
Next time you check out Willie try Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain. It's one of his best, in my humble opinion. 💙
Beautiful song and his version is my fave and yes, even more than Elvis’ version 😂
PLEASE do his song “Angel flying to close to the ground”
Willie has been getting it right for a long, long time. From his early days as a songwriter. You guys did Patsy Cline singing Crazy. That was Willies writing. He is 88 years old. Still and always an incredible talent.
Willie wrote “Crazy” that was a big hit for
Patsy Cline.
He also wrote “Hello Walls” that was recorded by Faron Young in 1961.
Please do a reaction of Hello Walls w/lyrics by Faron Young, it was a big hit for him and no one but him ever done this song justice.
Thanks 👋
You must check out the Highwaymen
Super group

Great live show
Always on My Mind" is a ballad written by Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James, first released by Gwen McCrae (as "You Were Always on My Mind") in 1972. Brenda Lee also released a version in 1972. The song has been a crossover hit, charting in both the country and western and pop categories.
AllMusic lists over 300 recorded releases of the song in versions by dozens of performers.[1] While Lee's version stalled at number 45 on the US country chart in 1972, other performers reached the top 20 in the United States and elsewhere with their own versions: Elvis Presley in 1972; John Wesley Ryles in 1979; Willie Nelson's Grammy Award-winning version in 1982; and Pet Shop Boys in 1987.
Thank you great information 👍
The Pet Shop Boys version is still one of my very favorites.
Elvis' version is probably my favorite.
As someone who has seen him live several times, the man sounds better live than any recording he's ever done.
Willie has a distinctive way of phrasing, both with his voice and his guitar, that just takes you somewhere. One of a kind.
He phrases behind the beat. Billie Holiday was also known for the technique. It’s most common in jazz, but also blues and rock. Check out “Honky Tonk Woman” by the Stones. Drummers and guitar players use the technique as well.
A statement that he made to his band and roadies, “If you are wired, you’re fired”! His non tolerance for hard drugs.
Check out "Crazy". He wrote it, but lots of people have covered it including Patsy Cline and Linda Ronstadt.
You can hear it in Grand Theft Auto, of all places.
I hit the LIKE button as soon as I saw the title! I have always LOVED this song & I am so glad y'all picked it to listen to. I would also recommend his songs "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain", "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" (with Julio Inglesias), "Whiskey River", "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys", "Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground", "Let It Be Me", "On The Road Again" (if you haven't already), "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys"( with Waylon Jennings), "Highwayman" (with Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, & Waylon Jennings) & his version of Patsy Cline's song, "Crazy". I adore Willie Nelson!
I like his duet with Toby Keith: Whiskey for my Men, Beer for my Horses! 30+ years ago I bought the Willie Nelson Christmas album. It is a hoot!
"Crazy" was written and preformed by Willie Nelson before Patsy Cline sung it.
Patsy made "Crazy" her song and Willie loved/loves Patsy's version.
"Crazy" is his song done by Patsy Cline. And to your list I would add "Funny How Time Slips Away" which was said to be written the same week as "Crazy" in 1962. I would also love a reaction to "Red-Headed Stranger". You can see a much younger Willie without a beard perform it live here: ruclips.net/video/OWOEfE22wow/видео.html
@@JamesLachowsky My mother gave me Red Headed Stranger back around 1977, when I was 16. Still one of my favorite albums.
"Time of The Preacher," "Poncho & Lefty," "Maria, Shut Up And Kiss Me," plus literally HUNDREDS of others! Can't go wrong with Willie!
The song that he did with Toby Keith, "Beer for my horses" is a total banger. The official video with Willie as a retired LEO and Toby playing his son as a current LEO chasing a serial killer was quite entertaining.
Willie is without a doubt a true inspiration. It's different, but this song reminds me of Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" - it's very emotional (especially if you know the background which is tragic) and heartfelt. A wonderful piece by Eric - highly recommended.
He was part of two legendary duos he teamed up with Waylon Jennings for a while and he made a record with Merle Haggard and then formed a super group called the Highwaymen along with Johnny Cash , Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash
COUNTRY LEGEND 🔝
One of the things that really sets Willie apart is his phrasing. Listen to his tests, the time that he holds notes for, the changes in pitch. He does all these without upsetting the time signature or the key of a song. I do not know of any other singer who does all those things. Put all that together with his unique voice and you get magic. Something else that is often unnoticed is his range. He makes everything sound so easy and effortless that you don't even realize how wide a range he's covered. I didn't notice it until I was singing along one day and found that I had bottomed out on my range. Willie still sounded like he'd never dropped below a deep tenor, yet unnoticed he'd eased down to bass.
He has some great duets also. Toby Keith he did "Whiskey for My Men, Beer for My Horses", "Pancho and Lefty" with the late great Merle Haggard. Also, a hysterical one is the live version with Willie watching Toby Keith singing "I'll Never Smoke Weed with Willie Again" I think Snoop Dog said the same thing. 😂😂
Angel flying to close to the ground by willie is one ofbthe most beautiful songs. Willie nelsonwas my mom's favorite singer other than janis.
You should listen to some of his duets with Waylon Jennings like Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys or Luckenbach, Texas; also, check out Waylon Jennings' solo work, so good.
Also check out Waylon Jennings Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way.. (American Outlaws : Live at Nassau Coliseum. 1990.
A lot of great singers have done this song but to me Willie will always be the best.
Willy is a National treasure. Full stop. The world is better with him in it and his loss will one day leave a hole we can’t fill.
Willie did the first Austin City Limits performance. It was Oct. 1974 and Willie looks young enough that it could be that show. He still plays the same guitar and it has had a whole in it for years now.
His guitar, Trigger has even appeared alone on a RUclips channel on a maintenance (not repair) visit to the Luthier shop! 😄
He also wrote Crazy for Patsy Cline
He wrote “Crazy” , he didn’t write “Always on My Mind”
One of greatest songs ever performed by him.
Willie is another cornerstone of music period.
"Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is my favorite song by him. Also check out the multiple duos and "groups" (The Highwaymen) he's performed with. American icon
Love Willie Nelson!! Thank you for reacting to this one. You should try Whiskey River, On the Road Again, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, Georgia on my Mind, and his duets. My favorite duets are Mommas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys, Luckenbach, Texas, Pancho & Lefty, Beer for my Horses. Also, he collaborated with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson on the Highwaymen which is amazing.
All those songs are 🔥🔥🔥
The soul and pain in this man's voice when he recorded this song just brings me to tears. And always has everytime I hear it.
I love Willie's unique voice!!
You’ll love Elvis Presley’s version of this song. You have to do Willie and Merle Haggard’s duet ‘Pancho & Lefty’ or one of his duets with Waylon Jennings. ‘Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain’, ‘On The Road Again’ & ‘City Of New Orleans’ are other good Willie songs to check out.
Luckenbach Texas too.
Willie is one of the best and he has perfect pitch. Love his style and song interpretation. Cheers from Canada
Willie is a national treasure.
My Dude that passed away 10 years ago use to sing this song to me all of the time. It was our song. It makes me smile and tear up every time I hear it. The first time I saw Willie Nelson in Concert was 3 years ago and I treats in my eyes when he came on stage, song this song, and when he was walking off stage. So grateful to be able to hear his music and see him live. ❤
Love Willie Nelson, one of my favourite country artists
Such an Amazing songwriter...so many songs that became hits for other artists (Hello Walls/Crazy) and some amazing story telling songs (Pancho and Lefty/The Troublemaker/Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground)...huge catalogue to get lost in. One of my favorite artists.
Yes! Pancho&Lefty. Such a great story song. Jay will love that!
I had the privilege of watching Willie Nelson perform live in concert in 2009, at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio. It was a short time after his 76th birthday. Willie Nelson hooked up a microphone on the bottom end of his acoustic guitar, and proceeded to give the guitar performance of a lifetime. He played all of his hit songs, and he sang and performed about a half-dozen Blues songs that night, Nelson's electrified acoustic guitar growled like a grizzly bear, and his guitar playing BLEW ME AWAY! I just wish that there was a videotaped performance of Willie Nelson during that tour. It was clearly some of the best performances of his career.
"Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain"
"Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground"
"City of New Orleans"
"Riders In The Sky"
Are just a few in his catalog.
Great one guys and great reaction suggestion for Willie Nelson you must see his Song a duet with Julio Iglesias to all the girls I’ve loved before great great song.
Willie Nelson was in a supergroup known as The Highwaymen. It includes: Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings, and the synergistic talent of these four stars exploded into a supernova which is The Highwayman. Please have a listen to a song called The Highwaymen by the group The Highwaymen and tell us what you think
Seconded. That's a wonderful song!
Got to see the highwaymen at the old richfield coliseum. Best show ever.
@@bobw2561 I've seen many rock shows at the old Richfield Coliseum. In fact I saw my first rock show in 77 at the Richfield. I was lucky enough to be in the audience when Queen played there. Thank you for this reaction. My parents loved Willie and he was one of the first artists I saw live with my dad. Tomorrow would've been my dad's 75th birthday. Whenever I hear this song I picture the two of them slow dancing.
Willie is actually the one who turned me on to country music and I still love that Outlaw country.
Thanks again. I feel like I've gotten a gift from my dad on his birthday. Keep up the great work.
He's one of my absolute favorites, he's beyond country music. "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is EPIC!!!!
This song is so beautiful. Here’s another great one by Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris who collaborated to make the most beautiful sounding trio ever. This one’s from their second album togetherruclips.net/video/Cnieh0Y1V-o/видео.html. It will take your breath away. It’s called “High Sierra”. 🎄🌺✌️
Best version…. And original… way better than anyone’s cover…even Elvis’. Glad u all gave him a chance! Happy day after Christmas!
Willie isn't the original for this song. Elvis covered it in 1972 and Willie covered it in 1982.
@@islandgreenstrong yes… Elvis did it before Willie, thanks. Meant to write ‘an’ original meaning Willie’s version sounded so raw and real…
I liked the Pet Shop Boys version
One of the most beautiful and surreal moments in my life came when I was hiking in the mountains in Thailand outside Chang Mai. I was solo with my guide, Lek, and we passed another group whose Thai guide looked to be about 70 years old. Lek and I stopped to chat for a moment then went on. A few minutes later I heard the most beautiful tenor voice echoing through the mountains -- that elderly tour guide singing "You Were Always On My Mind"!
My mother was a huge fan of Willie Nelson. This song came out shortly after she passed away. Always makes me cry and smile at the same time. Check out these songs.
All of me
Blue eyes crying in the rain
On the road again
This song always makes me cry. My dad worked 2 jobs for yrs as there were 7 of us kids. He dedicated this to our mom. He was gone so much and obviously very tired. She passed away 2 weeks before their 50th anniversary.😢
Whiskey River is a must
Willie Nelson is a legend in country music and has many good songs
Whiskey River is one of his signature songs from the album Shotgun Willie, 1973. Saw him 3x in the 70s. Once in concert, once at a dance he headlined and at his 1978 4th of July Picnic near Dripping Springs, TX. He started with Whiskey River every time. I saw his harmonic player, Mickey Raphael, who’s played with Willie for 40 years, performing with Chris Stapleton in concert earlier this year. Amazing man, amazing story and relationships, amazing career. He’s 88 now. May he be well.
I met Willie back in the 80's on a golf course in LaGrange, Ky. He is the most genuine down to earth human being you could ever meet. He is exactly as you would imagine him. A national treasure.
You guys should check out the duet he does with his son Lukas in "Just Breathe." Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real have some great songs. More towards the rocking side but sounds like a younger version of his dad. Willie also did a duet with Snoop Dogg called "Roll Me Up"
Makes me wonder which one smoked the other under the table, Willie or Snoop. My money's on Willie. :) That being said, you should check out Toby Keith's "I'll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again".
Willy is a national treasure !!!
Willie is the most genuine kindest person I've ever had the pleasure to spend in the studio for a whole night of friendship, wonderful music, great food, and laughs. Truly a great time I'll always treasure.
If you are interested in some of Willie's other duets, Mendocino County kine with LeAnn Womack and beer for my horses with Toby Keith are both amazing
Beer for my horses is classic.
A great song writer.
He is an amazing songwriter, but as this song shows, he can take another songwriters work and put out an amazing performance.
Willie is a fantastic song writer, he has all kinds of songs that other people record.
Love Willie Nelson. I find it interesting how his life experiences are reflected in his songwriting and singing. That emotional connection is evident in his voice and performance. His song "On The Road Again" my family's roadtrip song.
HIS 'STARDUST' ALBUM IS STELLAR!
I love Willie's version, but this will always be Elvis' song to me. He recorded it after him and Priscilla split in February of 1972, and he recorded his version in March of 1972
Being a child of the 80s, I was introduced to this song by The Pet Shop Boys, who did a great reimagining of it as a dance cover.
Absolutely love Willie! My favorite version of this song. Others by Willie “Loving You Was Easier” duet with Dyan Cannon, “Last Thing I Needed”, “Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain”, and more uptempo “Whisky River”and “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys”, etc to name a few. You would love the movie Honeysuckle Rose in which he plays a country music star. He’s essentially playing a version of himself and it features a great many of his songs.
His son, Lukas Nelson, is damn good too. He sounds quite a bit like his dad. Just Outside of Austin and Find Yourself are good ones.
I was gonna recommend Lukas as well. They are very different but have that similar natural feeling sound if that makes any sense.
@@nancyburke8745 That absolutely makes sense.
Saw Lukas and his band live recently. Phenomenal! Worth a reaction. Similar but different.
I've seen Lukas and his band perform twice and they are outstanding!
Willie Nelson is "highly" inspiring. He inspired President Jimmy Carter's son to partake in a little toke 🚬💨 on the roof of the White House
Lol yeah they should do Gone to Pot and I'll never smoke weed with Willy again both are hilarious. 😂🙃😉
I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone would bring up "The elephant in the room" Wasn't it Snoop who said even he couldn't keep up with Willie?
@@nanner3200 Yup, that'd be Snoop. I don't think Jay and Amber wanted to react to the Cheech & Chong Christmas story because of their expertise with mota. Maybe they'd be surprised Willie better at cheechin' out than Cheech himself
Hello from Paris France that beautifull song was singing by Elvis Presley, its the original from the King for his wife. Its the studio version filmed, the king with glasses in the musical studio, with all the orchestra. So amazing beautifull. See you very soon. Tony from Paris 😊
Love Willie. "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" , "Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground", and "Beer For My Horses" with Toby Keith. You will probably enjoy the video with that song. And Toby has great songs and videos !
You guys should check out the original with Elvis Presley, just as lovely. Both renditions of the song are wonderful and sad at the same time.
There were a few more artists that recorded it before Elvis. I can't remember the first one, but Brenda Lee was the second to release within the same year as The first. I think there were others between hers and Elvis' version too.
So I missed typed i believe the song was released in 1972 and covered by two different artists Gwen McCrae and then Brenda Lee. Later on Elvis covered it later that same year and the Willie Nelson in what I believe 1982.
@@taerdrop Brenda Lee, Gwen McCrae, and Elvis all recorded it early on, likely before they had heard any of the other versions.
@@scapito I think it was John Wesley Ryles in 1979, I had to dbl check that info cuz I have herd his cover yet.
To be honest, I prefer this to Elvis's version. he just puts better emotion into it. You should consider checking out Clint Black's When I Said I do. It is a gorgeous duet with his wife, Lisa Hartman Black. Love to all.
Whew. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And Mr. Willie Nelson's version just doesn't get much better than this. He truly sings from the heart and is an amazing man. And if we all live and love long enough we'll experience these kinds of moments when we know that when we look back on a former love, former relationship or even in a present relationship, we could've done better. And we want the chance to do better and make it up to our loved one. This song is so powerful even as the lyrics seem so simple. Thank you for another wonderful reaction, digging deep into the heart of it all, love, life and the soul itself. 🤗❤
My father would always play this when I entered a bar he was playing at. It's so beautiful, and Elvis does a wonderful version.
Elvis has his own rendition of this. I'm not entirely sure who's came first. But of all of the people who have sang this song, Willie's version is still the definitive one. (This coming from someone who's not fond of country music)
Willie's other signature song is "On the Road Again". It's a bit more upbeat.
Elvis version came out a decade before Willie's
@@matthewdrake4385 Oooo, you're right. I knew Elvis sang it late in his career, but I always thought Willie's version came soon after. Didn't realize he recorded it in 1982. Apparently over 300 people covered it, but I still feel that Willie's version is the definitive one.
The Elvis one is pretty good too
Elvis never released this when he was alive it was recorded during his split with Priscilla, it was released on This Is Elvis album soundtrack for the same titled documentary about him.
Steve, it WAS released when he was alive, but as a b-side to a single for Separate Ways. In fact it was released on a compilation called Separate Ways, in 1972. This is Elvis came out 9 years after his version of Always On My Mind.
Love Willie!! Such a talented dude!!🤘🔥
So many artist have performed this song but Willie's version is the one that feels like it's straight from his heart.
Beautiful
It is so touching to watch Amber just fall in love when a the lyrics of a song touch her heart ("I guess I never told you, I'm so happy that your mine.").
"He's looking back at it, wishing he'd done everything the right way." Don't we all feel that way about so many things.
And Check out Waylon Jennings.
A true country artist makes you feel they are singing to you personally.
"Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain", "Good Hearted Woman" (with Waylon!), "Blue Skies", "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" (with Waylon again!), "Whiskey River" (he always played this at his concerts), "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys", "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground" (you must listen to this one!!), "Forgiving You Was Easy", "Faded Love" (with Ray Price!), "Pancho and Lefty" (with Merle Haggard!) .... and on and on ..... He's got a huge amount of songs but, you can start with these! :D
A lot of different covers of this beautiful song - my personal favorite, as a child of the 80s, was the Pet Shop Boys version which is a lot faster and more dance-oriented (after all, it was the 80s). They played it all the time at the skating rink I used to go to as a teenager. lol
Hey guys please listen to ELVIS’S VERSION OF ALWAYS ON MY MIND.
TAKE CARE FROM JOEY FROM THE BRONX
Elvis does a beautiful job but he doesn't sing it with the feeling that Willy does
He wrote this classic. Elvis Presley also recorded it
