Amber, my mom didn't speak English, understood very little even though she was born here in Texas. My grandfather did not believe in schooling. They instead worked the fields. She said that at night you could here locals playing and singing country music. She learned to love it even if she didn't really understand the lyrics. She especially learned to appreciate Willie Nelson. She called him in Spanish, "El Viejito de las trencitas" The old man with the little braids. At her funeral services we played a compilation CD of different country songs, and this song with several others of Willie were on there. You can tell you're a country girl. God bless you.
That is truly beautiful!
"Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" was written by Fred Rose and was initially recorded in 1947 by Roy Acuff (a country music legend). Many artists have recorded it, but Willie Nelson brought it to number one in 1975 on his concept album, "Red Headed Stranger." The album is hard to explain, but while most of the songs stand alone on the album, it is intended to be played in order from beginning to end to tell the story of a preacher who goes after his wife, who has left him for another man. The scenes in this video are clips from Willie Nelson's movie of the same name, "Red Headed Stranger," which came out in 1986.
Love your succinct explanation! :)
I thought his wife was dead. In the title song, she is buried on the hillside ... 'don't cross him, don't boss him he's wild in his sorrow ... "
@@pamalaalford1081 In the movie, he hunted them down and killed both of them.
@@kathydurbin437 Ah ... I don't think I ever saw the movie! The song has her dead from the start. I don't know why I never saw the movie .., was it good? Worth watching?
@@pamalaalford1081 worth it!
The video distracted from the song. Blue Eyes is an iconic song from a legend. Simple and perfect.
my fav video of his is the one where they did that show about the country music legend reunion. he's in the room with all the old school singer-songwriter crowd, all the big country stars and he performs "Angel Flying Too Close The Ground" for them and they're all like in awe of him just entranced by his playing and singing.
yeah should have just played the song.
The song is not from a movie but it was used in a movie.
This video is from Willie's movie "Red Headed Stranger".
Agreed. This song needs your complete attention. It's a beautiful song that doesn't need a video.
As a songwriter myself, "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is one of those songs I wish I had written. Too slow? Not enough production values? That's the point, a wise production choice. This song reveals subtleties that catch your breath with each listen, if you tune your ear to hear them. For instance, notice the very first line: "In the twilight glow I see her" how there is a guitar accent on the word "I." The guitar is gentle and quiet except for that syllable. Also: listen to the double tracked vocal on the line "We'll stroll hand in hand again;" that's the only line given that treatment and underscores the value and longing in that sentiment. The lyric tells SO much with so few words, that the music has to get out of the way for the lyrics to have room. "We'll never meet again - only memories remain - when we meet in heaven - we'll stroll hand in hand again - in a place that knows no parting." The stripped down production also allows us to hone in on the very best instrument on this track: Willie Nelson's voice. I don't care much for the video you chose to watch because it breaks up Willie's guitar solo. It is one of the most fragile, delicate solos ever recorded. That's a good metaphor for the song, actually; Willie Nelson's version is as simple and slow as pausing to look at a delicate flower.
Beautiful comment..... ✌️
Great addition to the conversation, Richard. Good insights.
Amazing reaction you described the true meaning of music and why musicians do what they do.. my hats off to you Sir you are a true wordsmith BTW I've loved this song since 75 and Willie,Waylon and Me!!!
amen to all that.
❤️
I love Willie’s guitar playing. With just a couple of notes you know who’s playing.
Trigger is distinctive. 🥰
I was going to mention Trigger but yall beat me lol
@@margaretervin8895 Hey sugar girl I was just wondering are you walking softly? Walk softly good advice and that's a good thing to do if you're going walking on my heart that's The song is called walk softly that's why the Kentucky Kentucky head hunters to walk softly walk softly on this so hard a man
@@margaretervin8895 And you know you know what men like? I'm gonna tell you I'm gonna let out of the bag here we like trashy trash you when There's even a song about it on RUclips Confederate railroad does this one it's called trashy trashy women by Confederate railroad get on the train It's that that video was so d*** funny Hey that's some good looking trashy women I think I'd be to if if that was trashy women I'd be thinking about becoming a d*** trash man check that video out it's funny and it could be
It’s the slight offbeat and Trigger just makes the notes fill the rest of the space. Willie refused to let his music be overproduced and to fully hear how awesome the simplicity of and why the production actually is superior…listen to the him on vinyl. Somehow Trigger has even more depth on a record player…
The Red Headed Stranger released in 1975 was a story album or concept album,it was made into a western in 1985 . Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain is one of the songs. I sent you the cd last year The Red Headed Stranger. Listen to it asap
"It was the time of the preacher......"
What's funny is that people who haven't heard the song in the context of the album think it's so sweet since they don't know how she died.
Wore out the tape in two forms ... Replaced it with a CD...
The song is from the album The Red Headed Stranger. A concept album that told an overall story. The whole album was just Willie & his guitar. The video was from a movie (made for tv) based on the album. I highly recommend the title track Red Headed Stranger.
Willie put together several old songs for the album to tell a story along with some new material as a bridge between the old material. The movie they made from it starred Willie Nelson.
Willie is such a prolific song writer. He wrote “Crazy” which several artists recorded but Patsy Cline made famous and “Hello Walls” recorded by Faron Young. (You should give that a listen.). This one is another beautiful song by him that I have always appreciated, and I’m more of a rock fan!
He didnt write this one.
My favorite Willie Nelson song. I’m so glad you chose this one!
Willie Nelson is an all time legend. He transcends genre, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't love him.
This song was so simple, the record company thought it was a demo and didn’t want to do it, but it revived Willie’s career and the album became a movie, Red Headed Stranger.
This is the quintessential willie Nelson song. He just keeps it soft, simple and light. He is singing in the old fashioned country music style. That vibrato in his voice that’s perfectly controlled. It’s beautiful. Contemplative. Tender.
Whiskey River is my favorite Willie Nelson song. This one is so good because his voice is butter.
"Angels falling to close to the ground" is another beautiful song by WN...
I love that song
His song “You Were Always on My Mind” was one of my parents songs. Love Willie! 💜
Absolutely awesome song by Willie Nelson!!!❤️❤️❤️
I'm kindly not understanding?nock my Willie and Wayland do a song called the good hearted woman good hearted woman by Willie Ann Wayland I'm not understanding why no reaction
That's one of those Nola comprender no comprender Hey Hey

This was my mama's favorite song by Willie Nelson, we have missed you Mama for 40 years now! Almost seems unreal that you've been gone that long..
You must do “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground” So incredibly beautiful
The album Red Headed Stranger from which this song comes from was recorded in a little one room studio in my hometown of Garland, Texas (a suburb of Dallas) with only one engineer and a couple of backup musicians, but mostly just Willie and his guitar. It was financed by Willie because none of the big music producers would do it. Willie said "screw it, I'll do it myself". The album is widely praised by most as one THE GREATEST country albums ever! They did a movie a few years later, which is a piece of what y'all saw. The movie was not the best, but features all the songs from the album in it.
I never knew that! I have a ton of family in Garland. (Clever online name by the way-Dukes fan?)
This was released in 1975 by Willie. It had previously been recorded by Hank Williams Sr. and Charlie Pride.
This song rejuvenated Willie's reputation as a great singer and songwriter. It made it to Number 1 on The Billboard Top 100's Country chart.
Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Hank Sr.'s version was from a radio show in 1951 and wasn't released until about 40-50 years after his death. Pride, Elvis, and many others did covers of the original which was by Roy Acuff in 1947.
I love Willie as an Country Artist which is the biggest compliment I can give. When I say Artist that means writing , playing & singing ! In that category I would put him #3 behind Merle & Waylon, but I have to question how you can say it enhances his songwriting when he didn’t write the song ?
Angel flying too close to the ground is my favorite Willie Nelson song
HIS STARDUST ALBUM IS LOADED WITH CLASSIC GREAT SONGS ...
I love his version of Sunny Side of the Street
Willie was greatly influenced by Jazz musicians in Texas at a young age, he learned a lot from them, his knowledge of jazz chords and changes, solo style, etc., proves it. Because of this he adds so much more class to country music, and most people don't even get that.
Yes!! Great album! His cover of Louis Armstrong’s All Of Me is beautiful!
No one sounds like Willie.
Happy New Year’s, everyone!
☮️
Every time I hear Willie Nelson, I think of my Grandma. He was one of her favorite artists. "Angel's Flying to Close to the Ground" is my favorite song from him. It never fails to bring a tear to my eyes, and was played it a my Grandma's funeral. Thanks for the reaction.
Yes!!! “Angel Flying too Close To The Ground” has always been my favorite WN song too! Can’t tell you haw many times me and my college buddies sat in the dorm room around a little cassette player a bottle of cheap booze singing it at the top of our lungs. Great memories
That song is beautiful
You know, an artist you've never covered and it is sad....is Mac Davis. His song " Lubbock Texas in my Rearview Mirror" is just so fabulous.Tells a great story. And his song " Hard to be Humble" will make you laugh your head off!
Agree
Yes, they have to cover those two Mac Davis songs.
And, of course, Mac wrote, and recorded, "In the Ghetto".
I recommend the song Willie opens every show with. It's his theme song Whiskey River 😍
Willies songs tell a story. Loved this song, Angels flying to close to the ground and Railroad Lady.
Love Willie. For those of you who have never seen him live.
GO!
Absolutely!
This song is from Willie's "Red Headed Stranger" album, which is a story album. All of the songs on the album are connected and tell a story. It's a great album!
I think you need to do a reaction to; George Jones "Who's gonna fill their shoes". It references so many old time country singers, including Willie Nelson. It's a fantastic song, and the message of it is so true! 😊
That is a cool song by The Rolls Royce of Country Music !
A really beautiful song that Willie does is "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.
Ok, this is from the Red Headed Stranger album, which was played repeatedly when I was a kid. It's a truly spectacular album, and you can't understand the significance of this song unless you hear the whole album. It tells a story of a man wronged and his fall into madness for revenge.
Love Willie! Blue Skies,Angel Flying To Close To The Ground.
He does amazing with ballads as well as outlaw, and so much more.
Willie had a surprisingly wide musical background growing up when and where he did.
Back then, "country" and "western" were two very different types of music. Country came largely from traditional folk tunes and often Scottish reels. Western was swing music, with Big Band influences (The Texas Playboys were basically a big band with strings instead of horns), German folk dances, and Tejano music. Later, there was "cross-pollination" between Western and The Bakersfield Sound.
If you look at Willie's catalog, you see those influences pop up. I suspect that the Carter Family wouldn't have covered an Irving Berlin song like "Blue Skies"-not because they couldn't do it, but it wasn't in their musical genre, any more than it would be in Korn's genre.
He wrote “Crazy” for Patsy Cline, which was a hit for her.
Whiskey for My Men, Beer for my horses! Duo with Willie and Toby Keith.
This is one of Willies most sensitive songs y’all. To go deeper in his sensitivity try out, “The Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning(Was to Have you Walk Out on Me)….definitely a tearjerker
🤘🏽😔🤘🏽
Could you please react to Willie Nelsons diet. with Julio Iglesias to all the girls I’ve loved before absolute banger!
WILLIE NELSONS DIET!
You should react to his movie “Honeysuckle Rose”.
70’s legends Waylon Willie Johnny and Merle. You can’t go wrong with any of them.❤
Willie Nelson should be a registered National Treasure. The day will come soon when he's no longer with us, and folks will realize how much he gave to our music...
If you haven't done Angels Flying Too Close to the Ground, I wish you would. Beautiful song by Willie Nelson 💕
♫ _For you would not have fallen,_ 🎵
Such a beautiful song. Jordan will hate it, but Amber will get it. ☺️
@@Summermute7 we played that at my mother's funeral. He was her favorite.

Music is a great comfort. I'd hate to live in a world without it.
My most favorite from Willie Nelson. The image he brings to life is so vivid. I remember hearing for the first time when I was a very young boy. A little girl that I knew had just moved away and she had blue eyes. Every time I hear this song I think of her.
From the concept lp Red Headed Stranger I sent you last year. My favorite Nelson album a masterpiece
Yay! I was one of the ones who commented on the Waylon Jennings song. :-) Thank you!! This was one of my mom's favorite songs. She passed away 12 years ago and I can't get through it without tearing up, but I always feel close to her when I hear it.
My all time favorite Willie Nelson songs are One Day At a Time and Stardust. Two great songs from the early days of Willie.
The entire "Stardust" album is great.
Love Willie!! Please!! Level 42 Something about you is fire, and the bass playing is epic!!
Love that song!
The pace of this song just lets you know how hectic everything feels in todays time. This was laid back relaxed and not in a hurry but still delivered .
I've had the pleasure if seeing Willie live, twice. A very good time. Everybody knows all the songs.
Amen, Amber. This song is in my top ten. Simply gorgeous.
The song that put Willie on the map as a performer, (He already was a successful writer). By the way, Because Nashville basically shunned Willie's outlaw country style, he went back home to Texas and recorded this album "The Redheaded Stranger" in Dallas, Texas (The city of Garland to be exact) An engineer in Dallas named Phil York recorded it at his Garland Studios. "Blue Eyes Cryin' n The Rain" became Willie's first big hit as a singer.
I love this sweet song. It's among my favorite by him.
LOVE this song. That guitar is so Willie....so thick and strong and melodic.
My mom was a big Willie fan. She worked for country singer Ray Price as a bookkeeper, and he and Willie were close friends, both from Texas. I met him at twelve, and used to, years later, go to his club, Whiskey River (named after his hit song) and he was the coolest guy in Texas. I'm a guitar player and singer, mostly r&b and soul from the sixties and seventies, but at my momma's funeral I sang Willie's song Funny How Time Slips Away...she loved the song and I learned it for her. Hope Willie lives forever!
Not only is it such a well-written song, his voice is just absolutely gorgeous on this. And he was called Old Blue Eyes, so it's interesting to have that line that is so iconic in this really famous song. Sure makes it sound autobiographical doesn't it.
Willies best. Composition and performance.
This is a beautiful song. I just FEEL IT!!! My brother, who passed in 2000 loved Willie Nelson!
I love slow dancing, especially to songs with feeling. This song is all feeling.
Around 2007 or so I had the opportunity to see Bob Dylan and Willie in concert. My husband had turned me on to Bob and I was a huge fan. I knew Willie from growing up in Oklahoma and my mom listening to lots of country music in the 80s. I still wasn't too jazzed about seeing Willie. But let me tell you, much as I love Bob, Willie blew him away. He was so good! Made a forever fan out of me, for sure.
I think this is the song that made him such a star❤❤❤❤❤
I remember the first time that I heard this song. I was 14, babysitting my brother's kids and heard this on his great stereo system on the radio. I was blown away and asked my brother if he knew anything about it. We both listened to rock and didn't even know who Willie was. After that I listened almost exclusively to country for several years and since I soon started to High School Rodeo, it was very appropriate. I have loved old school country ever since (as well as classic rock!).
This is my favorite Willie Nelson song. And Willie is one of the original outlaws of country
Trigger lent a lot of the emotions in this song Trigger being willies signature guitar
Night life, is my favorite Willie song.
He lets "Trigger" shine through on this one. One of my favorites.
Willy's "Stardust" album is one of the best albums of all time. Covers of old Jazz standards from the 30's written mainly by Hoagie Carmichael. Brilliant.
This is one of my favorites by Willie. I was born in 1976 this came out in 1975 so I have heard this song all of my life. Jay slow Country songs that tell a story are the foundation of Country Music.
This is my absolute favorite Willie Nelson song
It's a slow love song, this is one of my favorite Willie songs...really touches your heart.
Willie's long hair and beard itself made him a Country outlaw. He had been clean cut and wore suits. He was a successful songwriter but not so much as a singer. He realized he was trying to fit the Nashville mold but wasn't being true to himself, so he started looking like he wanted and singing what he wanted. That was the outlaw aspect, more than a certain sound. The genuine Willie became a hit. You can see the clean cut Willie on clips from his '60s variety show.
Have always loved Willie Nelson's voice so much, it's so unique. It's a cowboy lullaby, so yes, it's slow, but it needs to be, I love this song.
One of my Willie favorite songs.
Blues Eyes is one segment of a whole story from Willie's album Red Headed Stranger... amazing!!
My 9th grade English teacher used to refer to Wilie Nelson as "Saint Willie". His catalog is such a deep rabbit hole.
Willie Nelson was in lots of movies. I think this was from “Red Headed Stranger”.
This song and Willie Nelson were my father's favorites. Everytime I see or here Willie, I can't help but to think of my dad.
Yeah that's amazing man too have you ever heard Willie and moyland together with a good good hearted woman? Good hearted woman d*** that's the look I should have been done years ago
On the road again? I'm not understanding I'm on the road again it looks like to me
It's on the road again that's when a Willie's biggest hit's will I know some done on the road again we just can't wait to get on that road again a lot of we love is making music with our friends and we just can't wait
And I always say if you go go walking on this hard to mind go ahead and walk softly walk softly on this heart of mine walk softly that's a d*** and that's a really good song that's why Kentucky Kentucky Kentucky head hunters do walk softly I smoke
But this rob squad I think OJ bird there I think a song hes looking for his own narrow it again on the road again that's what J wants
This and "Angel flying too close to the ground" are my favorite Willie tunes.
So glad you guys have been discovering more country classics! Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground is another beautiful song from Willie that you won’t regret listening to.
Willie Nelson ,song Whiskey River is a great song
Whiskey River, Good-Hearted Woman, On The Road Again. All more upbeat Willie Nelson songs you might enjoy.
Hey it's Ken from Texas great song glad y'all are playing it yeah this is a movie Willie Nelson was in called red headed stranger
No one can pluck a guitar like Willie...You instantly know it's him when you hear it
Growing up in the country, Friday and Saturday nights were dances. You would drive around the country to the different dance halls following your favorite bands. Nothing better to fall in love to when your 13, 14 years old, dancing to this song!!! Such innocence!!! I am 60 years old and I can still remember dancing to this song with that boy I had a crush on, as if it was yesterday!!! Like the song by Trisha Yearwood says, "The song remembers when!" Love watching yall!!! Yall are so cute and the way you are open to all forms of music!!! Will continue to listen and enjoy yall!!! T.Buckert from Texas!!
My dad and Willie Nelson were a lot alike, and my dad LOVED his music. They both had a similar facial structure, and they both were red heads. In fact, my dad was called The Red Headed Stranger long before Willie used the term for a title of an album, and the movie that this music video takes clips from. My dad was a very quiet man, which made him rather mysterious to ssome, but he was also one to find humor in almost anything. Sadly, my dad passed away December 9th, 2021. "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" was one of his favorites, as was Willie's version of "Blue Hawaii", since my dad was once stationed in Hawaii when he was in the Navy, and said that if you go to the places where there are no tourist traps, no buildings, no signs of civilization, it was like heaven on Earth.
Willie Nelson is a National Treasure. Listen to all of his stuff.
This is a cover. It was written by Fred Rose about a guy going off to war, originally recorded in 1947 by Roy Acuff, was also recorded by Hank Williams in 1951 for the Mother's Best Flour Hour radio show. But Willie Nelson had the biggest success with it in 1975, reviving his singing career. Then it was used in this movie in the 80's.
Blue Eyes is from Willie’s first “full-control” Album under his new Contract. It’s a story-concept album of a fallen Preacher. The record company thought it was a demo because it had no “production” sounds. Willie said…Nope, just release it.
Redheaded Stranger continues to be the most respected piece of work in music history.
My favorite Willie Nelson CD is Stardust. It plays like a greatest hits collection. His harmonica player will give you goosebumps.
My dad passed 8 years ago this month, less than a year and a half after my mom passed. They'd been married 49 years. Dad loved Willie Nelson, and he played his Red Headed Stranger album the first Thanksgiving after Mom died. I'd heard it countless times as a young child but had more or less forgotten about it except for this song. When he played it and I remembered so many of the songs, it took me back to my early childhood in a river of tears. We played this song at his funeral. The line "Some day when we meet up yonder, we'll stroll hand in hand again" remains particularly difficult for me to hear. The movie scenes were from the movie Red Headed Stranger, which tells the same story told on the album, but it wasn't released until about 10 years after the album.
This video is indeed from a 1986 movie titled Red Headed Stranger, the same as Willie's iconic album. Wonderful movie. I was fortunate enough to see Willie in concert way back in 1981 at the Lloyd Noble Center right there in Norman, Oklahoma. Incredible show. Willie is the best. He's outlived em all.
It was originally recorded by Roy Acuff in 1947, written buy Fred Rose, they were business partners. This was one of the songs that put Willie into super stardom. Although he had written some classics, the album Red Headed Stranger shot Willie to the top as a singer. And was written with a slow drawn out story line, like a cowboy would sing. Back in the day it wasn't just country it was country & western music.
One of the greatest songs ever
Happy New Year to you and your family!! Keep on rockin!!!
Angel Flying to Close to the Ground is another classic Willie song
When Willie turned in the album that this was on to the record company, they wanted him to go back and add more instruments. He said this is what you got, release it as it is. It became one of his biggest selling albums.
This was my grandmother's favorite song. Miss you always, Granny. ❤
Probably should have watched a performance video. This is one of his most beloved songs.
My favorite Willie Nelson song of all time, thanks Rob Squad! :)
Willie was also an actor. In addition to the RedHeaded Stranger, he starred in or was a co-star in several movies including Honeysuckle Rose(“On the Road Again” is from this movie), Songwriter with Kris Kristofferson, Stagecoach (he played Doc Holliday),Wag the Dog, The Electric Horseman and others. He was also on TV in episodes of Miami Vice, Nash Bridges, The Simpsons, Monk, King of the Hill, etc.
Willie is a National treasure
Willie Nelson videos tells a story on it's own. Classic country.
