@@sheilameyers152 my mom raised me on The Beatles! 🥰 She used to go to their concerts and was in a fan club and everything. She told me girls would scream so loud at the concerts that her ears would ring for hours afterward 😂
It's been said that George and Ringo would get one maybe two songs per album. When they split George had a lot of songs he had written but not recorded.
@@guyray1504 Because George was younger and didn't have anyone to really push him the way Lennon and McCartney had each other, his songwriting was a little behind them in terms of quality. By about 1968, he'd pretty much caught up, and we discovered that he could write love songs as well as Paul, and could write biting social commentary like John, but without the sledgehammer approach John sometimes slipped into.
I'll never forget the footage of George's early work on "Something" that was uncovered thanks to the "Get Back" documentary; he had the melody but was stuck on the lyrics and was asking the others for advice. In the end, George found what he needed.
To be honest I’m just happy that this young couple is discovering this music and spreading it around for others to enjoy. I get a kick out them being surprised on how good the music is. The meanings of these songs will all come around over time just like it did for us
I agree so much, most drummers walking into this song during recording would probably play a 12 bar blues on the ride. Just his hihat work was brilliant Such a great drummer
The more I listen to them (which is a LOT!) the more I appreciate Ringo. His fills on A Day In The Life just make me smile. The song wouldn’t be the same without them or if they were the same fill every time.
It’s nice to hear people appreciate what he did in that band. A lot of people who don’t understand drumming think each band needs a Neal Peart or a Mr Bonham. It doesn’t work like that. You won’t put Charlie Watts in the Police or Ringo in the Who. Ringo was perfect for their style and very important part of their sound. Thanks.
Another thing to remember is that the entire Beatles recording career only lasted about 7 years. Over two hundred songs and the evolution of their sound is nothing short of remarkable. Then there is the growth of fashion from the mop tops with suits to the way they looked during this album which is the last recording they did. Amazing. Thanks for getting to more George.
That's what was so difficult to comprehend Brad d, all this incredible music in such a short period of time. I would just marvel at their musical progression in one short year. I'm not aware of any band who made such great strides from album to album!
You guys have actually reacted to a George Harrison-led Beatles song before: Here Comes The Sun. Both these songs are from the final album they recorded, Abbey Road, and were two of the best songs on the album. They really signified that George had reached Lennon & McCartney level with his songwriting.
A favorite anecdote of mine is Dhani Harrison, as a very young boy, saying he thought his father was "just a gardener" because that is where his father spent so much time. George must have found much peace in his garden from the high pressure life of one of the most famous musicians in the world. Much of his music reflects that peace.
Dhani also told how he enrolled in the Royal Air Force academy (Because how do you rebel against Hippie parents?) which he graduated from with a Master’s degree. And he was all high and mighty to his dad. “Come on, I did all that at only 23 years of age! You gotta give me that, dad!” At which George brought him very firmly back to earth by stating, “What was I doing at 23? I was doing 'Sgt Peppers'.” Yeah, Dhani, it's VERY difficult to one up your old man, when he was part of the Beatles.
Paul plays this at all his concerts for his tribute to George. He starts it out by playing it on a ukulele while singing it, and then later in the song he changes to his guitar and the whole band kicks in to play the rest as it was on the recording. He starts with the ukulele because it was George's favorite instrument, believe it or not. It's really lovely doing it that way.
Paul and John both agreed that George's two compositions on Abbey Road were the best. Something and Here Comes The Sun. In the animosity of the last album they made together their glorious music shines through. They just can't help themselves. The real tear jerker is the version of this that Paul and Eric Clapton performed at the memorial concert for George in 2002. Definitely worth checking out.
It can't have been easy as a songwriter to compete with Paul and John. But he probably worked hard and rose to their level. A misconception is that great musicians are born geniuses.
Never thought of George as underrated. He always had great chops IMO. If he was ever underrated it was by his audience, certainly not his peers. Cheers....
George recorded his guitar solo live and with the orchestra. This was due to the fact that the Beatles had only 1 track remaining to record on. This was most likely a seperate 4 track machine that was mixed on to that final remaining track. George nailed it in 1 take. That's a tricky solo and George delivered the goods. 'Something' has become not just a classic. It entered the realm of being a bona-fide Standard. Great reaction R S R. Merry Christmas, RNB
@@jimhines5145 Hey Jim. What I am inferring is the orchestra and the guitar solo were recorded on a separate 4 track machine and then mixed to track 8 of the master.. The same technique as was previously used on A Day in the life. That time the 4 track recording of the orchestra was mixed to track 4 of the master. Cheers, RNB
@@amb2745 Oh yeah. I have read "The Beatles Recording Sessions" at least a half dozen times. I also have "Recording the Beatles : The Studio Equipment and Techniques Used to Create Their Classic Albums". An amazing document as well (but not focused on actual recording sessions). It is now extremely hard to find, unfortunately. If you don't have it, do try to find one. Well worth it, especially if you can find one with all the extras.
I am from Liverpool and only a few years ago my mother told us that she dated George Harrison for a while back in the 60’s (we had no idea). She also worked in a big store in the city and at lunch times she would go to the Cavern and watch The Beatles play when they were virtually unknown!!!! Crazy!
They kind of produced their albums in pairs, with exceptions, and something new each time added showing their growth as musicians and artists. The interim album singles were kind of the shifting points between these similarities. The first two albums were very similar. Then A Hard Days Night was a sound track and so stood on its own. Beatles for Sale and Help were pretty similar, then Rubber Soul and Revolver were similar to each other in a different way. Sgt Pepper, and Magical Mystery Tour were very similar in style, while the White Album and the songs they did for the Yellow Submarine Sound track were similar to each other. Abbey Road was a stand alone, and Let It be was sort of a mish-mosh of different styles they had produced over the years less any psychedelic songs.
You guys should check out “0h Darling” The emotion and the grit in the vocals are powerful! Even if you don’t react to it, give it a listen for your heart.
When you think of bands that have been around 30 years or 40 years and then you stop and realize that The Beatles were together and did everything that they did in less than 10 years!
@stickman so you're saying that what I said isn't true? Name any other band that did what the Beatles did in under 10 years.... second thought don't bother
Always love The Beatles!!! Your comment of "We've done a lot of Beatles". A lot of songs in total, but not a lot when compared to their catalog. I often feel sorry for you if you are only going to discover Beatles on your channel because it will be decades before you hear some amazing music.
It's already been that way. Heck, the fact that they're only now exploring iconic movies also means that they've yet to discover many great scores by John Williams, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Alan Silvestri, etc...
Written for Pattie Boyd Georges wife, when they split she left to be with George's pal Eric Clapton he wrote 2 songs inspired by her LAYLA and WONDERFUL TONIGHT.
George’s evolution into a songwriting force to be reckoned with, while in that band, is unbelievable. That he holds the distinction of having written the two best tracks on The Beatles’ final album is an incredible feat, even if perhaps John and Paul weren’t in best form on that one. He famously soured on being treated as a little brother by those two, but also producer George Martin expressed regret later in life, that he didn’t pay more attention to George’s songwriting. All of this meant that George was arguably the happiest of the four when the band broke up - free to pursue his musical ambitions in full. Which he did. This song was covered by Frank Sinatra, who called it the greatest love song of the 20th century. Some accolade.
Imagine being Brian E. and George M, trying to manage and produce all that talent! The fact that John, Paul, and George were teenagers when they started playing together is amazing (At an awards event, George's widow, Olivia, praised Neil Aspinall for his guidance during their very early years. They were school friends. What a journey they took!).
Don't underrate your contribution to keeping the great sounds alive for this and the next generations. Like a pebble in the pond, you never know where those ripples may reach. If I, at the age of 64, can hear a song from when I was 10 and still feel the thrill - you have done something really great. I loved sharing the music I had back in my 20s with family and friends; you are doing the same now with hundreds of thousands of younger people. I appreciate you and everything you do. Keep up the good work!
Imagine being a 14 year old girl when the Beatles arrived on the scene. And biting every new album in succession and playing the grooves out till the next one in six months. That was me! Growing up with the Beatles. 😍
This and Here Comes the Sun are George's two best Beatles songs. Although John and Paul were the main writers, he definitely wrote two of the most memorable ones.

I truly think the Beatles are one of very, very few things that can unite all generations through love and understanding. I’m 33, and even though by the time I was born John had been dead for a decade and the Beatles had been over for 20 years, it feels like I do fundamentally understand why they have been such a huge cultural phenomenon since they first debuted. You just can’t help but love their music, their wit, their separate and united personalities. It also helps that their sense of humor is incredibly close to the type of humor younger people have today, and I actually think their humor specifically really bridges so many differences among people. Because I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t fall over themselves over “how did you find America?” “turn left at Greenland hahaha”. They were just so precious, and Paul and Ringo still being here with us genuinely feels like a gift. Hopefully I’ll be able to go see Paul live. I’ve seen some of his most recent concerts on RUclips and the guy still basically has the same energy, prowess and creativity as he did in the 70s. Which is positively insane. And I’d like to go see Ringo too. I just… love these people so much. And I feel love for all Beatles fans. ❤
I was 5 years old when this came out and I still remember the first time I heard it. And that memory is one of my earliest memories of the Beatles and I have loved their music ever since. There's the Beatles and then there's everyone else.
George’s guitar is very recognizable and sooo beautiful. There’s no mistaking it when you hear it. I don’t know if you realized it at the time, but “Here Comes the Sun” is also one of George’s compositions. This is such a lovely song. George had a beautiful, peaceful soul. 😇. Keep those Beatles reactions coming. 🎄❤️🎄
If Amber and Jay didn't realize it when they first did their earlier reaction, they were quickly enlightened by the hordes of enthusiastic George stans who invaded the Comments section! 😅
Something Here Comes the Sun While My Guitar Gently Weeps Think For Yourself Within You, Without You Blue Jay Way Taxman, Only to name a few, George had so many bangers in the beatles.
George’s SO here is his wife Pattie Boyd. She divorced George and married Eric Clapton in 1979. She appears in the Beatles’ first film, A Hard Day’s Night, which you really should watch-it is hilarious and has the best soundtrack ever.
Do yourself a favor and buy and listen to an entire Beatles album in its entirety. That is how we listened to them when they came out! That is how they are designed to be listened to!!! Love you guys! You have come a long way!
Keep in mind, The Beatles began recording their debut album in December 1962. While Let zit Be came out in 1970, Abbey Road was actually the last album recorded and that was finished in August 1969. So between 12/62 & 8/69 they recorded 10 full albums. 1 double album, 2 EPs, and nearly two CDs filled with singles and German language tracks. Plus they filmed two movies and a TV show, plus the Yellow Submarine animated film with a couple of new songs. And all the footage that became the old doc for Let It Be and the new amazing documentary Get Back. The Beatles were a recording band fir a very short period and didca ton in that time.
"Something" is on the Abbey Road album. You really need to listen to the whole album as each song leads into the next song, seamlessly. The whole album is much more of a treat than each individual song.
There Is a sweetness and purity to this song that is so very special. Hey, Jordan, when your man, Frank Sinatra, first heard this song, he said it was the best love song he had heard in 50 years. He then went on to sing Something in almost every concert of his after that, but he always credited the song on stage to Lennon/McCartney instead of George Harrison. The song is beguiling in its simple beauty, but will forever stay in one's heart, and has become one of the signal moments in music.
The Chairman of the Board aka Frank Sinatra said “Something is the most beautiful song ever written.” High praise from someone whose sung a ballad or two. Another fine reaction from the Rob Squad!
One of the greatest love songs of all time. Beautiful lyrics and many musical lines that come together in this truly amazing song. The bass line, especially near the beginning of the last verse is fantastic.
John has noted that this is the best song on 'Abbey Road', in his opinion. And to think that none of these guys could read or write music and to have turned the musical world upside down as a hugely popular international group....and they broke up before turning 30 years old. Breathtaking
This song and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" are my favorite Beatles song and it's awesome that both were written by George Harrison. I know many people were all about Lennon and McCartney, rightfully so they're incredible. Harrison just wrote amazing lyrics. They're meaningful and momentary. It's just great poetry to me. 😎👍
It is one of the greatest songs ever. It’s an absolute masterpiece. Unparalleled. The perfection of the George’s vocals, lyrics, descending and ascending tonal/chord progression, that soaring middle 8 the signature riff, bass line by McCartney, that guitar solo. Its no wonder Frank Sinatra called it one of the greatest love songs ever. It’s also one of the most coveted Beatles songs ever. Everyone from Elvis, Ray Charles, James Brown, Celine Dion, Billie illish have done a cover of it.
Please keep in mind: the Beatles developped within 7 years. This enormous output, more than one album per year. Their influence unproceeded up to their days on music fashion and culture in general is unbelievable...that not happend "over decades" as you mentioned.

It Won’t Be Long is one of my favorites. You should also watch the movie Across the Universe. It’s a musical featuring all Beatles songs with the actors doing the singing. It’s about a group of young people in the 60s during the Vietnam war era.
Frank Sinatra said this was his favorite love song. Also, Ringo was married to his girlfriend from way before they got famous, Maureen. If you look at pictures of her when she was young, she seems like she was very cool.
I have a great memory of this song, I was at a grocery store… This song was playing on the speakers and as I walked around the store, every aisle I went down everybody was singing along, not just kind of singing along, I mean I’ve heard other songs at the grocery store that people were singing along to but this was different, they were singing it so loudly and proud. So everyone is singing the same song everywhere I go throughout the store.. it was really cool. That’s only ever happened to me one other time and it was “pretty woman” by Roy Orbison. Again every aisle I walk down every single person was singing along like they were part of the band. It’s so fun when that happens
As the saying goes, bing was theatened by frank. Frank was threatened by Elvis. Elvis was threatened by the beatles. The beatles havent been threatened by anyone in 50 years.
Another great George Harrison song you should definitely check out is "Any Road", which is the opening track to his posthumous album 'Brainwashed'. He began writing it in '88, recorded it in the 90s and was released in 2003 after his death in 2001.

U 2 I swear it makes me smile to hear 2 people 50 years later so appreciate the Beatles, there will never be another as the Beatles, just awesome and their songs never forgettable......thanks guys....great job...
My favorite song ever. Just perfection. Btw, I think you reacted to “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and “Here Comes the Sun.” Those we’re both written by George.
What makes their variety of music so interesting is the fact that they were together, as a band, for such a short time - only 10 years, from 1960-1970.
These women were their wives. Paul's wife Linda was actually a part of his Wings band. They grew right before our eyes. I grew up with the Beatles. You can't get any better than the Beatles!! They are still amazing.
At the time this video was made, WIngs didn't exist yet and so Linda was not yet in the band, she was though a photographer and had been shooting photos of a lot of other rock bands before Paul met her.

And yet they both cheated on her.
"She must have been Something." Nice one.
George also wrote “I Need You” for her.
He met her on the set of “A Hard Day’s Night”. She is the one who got George, and hence the other Beatles, interested in Hinduism.
That's her, always wondered what she looked like

I always loved the Beatles! Back then I was one of those girls screaming when they came around! After awhile I got use to them I stop getting crazy and learned to appreciate their meaningful songs! They are still my fav of all time!
It's said that Frank Sinatra once that Something was the greatest love song ever written. Quite a compliment!!!
Probably one of the most beautiful love songs ever written George hit a home run with this one…. nuff said.
I'll never forget the footage of George's early work on "Something" that was uncovered thanks to the "Get Back" documentary; he had the melody but was stuck on the lyrics and was asking the others for advice. In the end, George found what he needed.
Probably?

I really don't see what that has to do with this song, sorry!
@@tedmohr6353 Specifically, not much. I've just heard how in love the two were and it's sad that Linda died.
Linda was a beautiful soul.
That's one of the best bass lines Paul put into that song, being a professional bass man, it was excellent, one of their best songs.
Exactly. It really is exceptional.
And so often overlooked as well !
and he of all people thought it was a bit too loud and busy, but it must have been George Martin who decided to turn it up, which was very effective
@@paulinegallagher7821 Grand Funk Railroad had a high volume bass, much needed in a 3 piece band, if you have a great bass player, and they did.
Paul is underrated as a bassist!
How can you miss Ringo's drumming, his timing is impeccable.
I agree so much, most drummers walking into this song during recording would probably play a 12 bar blues on the ride. Just his hihat work was brilliant Such a great drummer
I think Abbey Road has the best drumming of any album ever. It is all opinion though. Everything Ringo throws out on that album is perfection.
Thanks.
@@michaelmullins6396 And the Bass line on Dear Prudence!!!
This by far is the most remarkable essence of the Beatles. These guys did more in one year then most bands did in 30.
@@prettyteeth I quite agree. I've never seen a band who made such incredible strides in one short year, it was astounding to watch their progression!

A favorite anecdote of mine is Dhani Harrison, as a very young boy, saying he thought his father was "just a gardener" because that is where his father spent so much time. George must have found much peace in his garden from the high pressure life of one of the most famous musicians in the world. Much of his music reflects that peace.
didn't they say that george was the senstive quiet hippy one?
@@sarablack2547 Yes, he was described as the quiet one. I think he was a deeply spiritual man.
@@ziggymarlowe5654 yes that's what I thought spiritual in a being one with the elements rather than religious.
Dhani also told how he enrolled in the Royal Air Force academy (Because how do you rebel against Hippie parents?) which he graduated from with a Master’s degree. And he was all high and mighty to his dad. “Come on, I did all that at only 23 years of age! You gotta give me that, dad!”
At which George brought him very firmly back to earth by stating, “What was I doing at 23? I was doing 'Sgt Peppers'.” Yeah, Dhani, it's VERY difficult to one up your old man, when he was part of the Beatles.

George’s best song. You HAVE to listen to the live version of this at the Concert For George. One of the best live performances of all time.
This one: ruclips.net/video/Xl-BNTeJXjw/видео.html
Here Comes the Sun?
Paul plays this at all his concerts for his tribute to George. He starts it out by playing it on a ukulele while singing it, and then later in the song he changes to his guitar and the whole band kicks in to play the rest as it was on the recording. He starts with the ukulele because it was George's favorite instrument, believe it or not. It's really lovely doing it that way.
Absolutely true!
Ringo's fills on this one so subtle, adding so much elegant beauty. Such a work of art.
WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS
It can't have been easy as a songwriter to compete with Paul and John. But he probably worked hard and rose to their level. A misconception is that great musicians are born geniuses.
George Harrison was one of the most-underrated songwriters of all time.
Also, Paul McCartney's bassline in this song is just amazing.
Never thought of George as underrated. He always had great chops IMO. If he was ever underrated it was by his audience, certainly not his peers. Cheers....
Come on! Underrated? By who? None of the Beatles are underrated, you sound foolish.
McCartney's greatest performance on bass guitar. It's practically flawless.
Ringo's drum fills are pretty damn good too.
It's just the perfect love song.
Hofner bass guitar. I can hear that same guitar in Paul McCartney's my love song. Incredible sound
As a fellow bass player, I 1,000% agree... Not an easy feat either, as he's produced so many amazing bass lines.
It is good but my favorite bass line by Paul is Nowhere Man
George recorded his guitar solo live and with the orchestra.
It's a well known fact that Abbey Road was most certainly recorded on 8 track. Not 4.
Cheers, RNB
@@jimhines5145 The Beatles were on 8-track about halfway through the White Album sessions.
@@amb2745 Oh yeah. I have read "The Beatles Recording Sessions" at least a half dozen times. Widely considered one of the most romantic songs of all time. George Harrison. His voice, his lyrics, his loving and gentle soul. ❤️
I am from Liverpool and only a few years ago my mother told us that she dated George Harrison for a while back in the 60’s (we had no idea). She also worked in a big store in the city and at lunch times she would go to the Cavern and watch The Beatles play when they were virtually unknown!!!! Crazy!
Was it Blacklers?
They NEVER repeated themselves, every album was different than the one before..they were magic!

I agree, the number of Beatles' songs they have already reacted to is a "drop in the bucket" compared to the Beatles' ENTIRE catalogue
Written for Pattie Boyd Georges wife, when they split she left to be with George's pal Eric Clapton he wrote 2 songs inspired by her LAYLA and WONDERFUL TONIGHT.
This song is one of the many reasons George was always my favorite Beatle....
He was perfection! 💕

It does my heart good to see people 50 years younger than me enjoying the same music I love.

Another vote for watching "A Hard Day's Night"! It's witty and beautifully filmed and has a killer soundtrack, of course.
So happy you did this one. It's one of my faves. Btw, Frank Sinatra said this was the most beautiful love song he ever heard...and sang.
One of their best! Absolutely love this song. It’s also to me one of the best love songs ever. This shaggy look is my favorite Beatles look.
The Chairman of the Board aka Frank Sinatra said “Something is the most beautiful song ever written.” High praise from someone whose sung a ballad or two. Another fine reaction from the Rob Squad!
And yet, at the start of Beatlemania. he was very negative about them. Or was that, very jealous?
And Sinatra used to mock the Beatles saying they wouldn't last and that they're just a bunch of provincials. He ate his words eventually.

George Harrison is my favorite Beatle. His songs are so heartfelt!
That is BILLY PRESTON on the organ...the only other musician 2 b accredited on a BEATLES recording -- TRUELY the ONLY 5th BEATLE
