You two are so adorable. Here I am nearly 70 and I was a teenager when all this music hit us. What a thrill to see two young things loving it and recognising it’s timelessness.
Most of us grew with the Beatles also. I am 72.5 yrs. I was in Jr High when they arrived and High School when Rubber Soul came out which brought me back to the Beatles.
61 here ..I grew up with the Beatles, even though I was a kid when they first appeared on the scene.

This was actually George Harrison singing - and he wrote it too. He’s a genius - only got two songs per album - but his stuff is just transcendent and brilliant.
All things must pass is my favorite Beatles solo album.
The Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp just grabs me. George was the thinker and the one who pondered life.

A lot of folks seem to prefer John or Paul, but George was my favorite Beatle.
The others put out loads of music and were usually the ones "pushing the boundaries" but George did his share too.
And always standing in the shadow of the Lennon/McCartney team.
His albums post Beatles, were the ones I enjoyed most though.
George Harrison's voice is so calming. He was always known as "The quiet Beatle." Very shy, and not a big ego as most members of Rock Bands have. Only Paul and Ringo are left.

His "All Things Must Pass" album is still one of the best.

You could say they invented Pop music. Before there was just Rock'n'Roll and Rhythm and Blues... and that Easy Listening stuff like Herb Alpert and Burt Bacharach ... hence the reaction on the Ed Sullivan show.

When George Harrison passed away from cancer on November 29, 2001, I put this song on and played it until I was cried out. That such a beautiful spirit had been taken from us so cruelly was more than I could bear. I think this song, about winter leaving a spring coming, captures his sweet, gentle heart so well. He was still pretty young when this was recorded, but he was what my mother used to call an "old soul".
It was 'Long, Long, Long' for me, on repeat all night while I sniffled my little eyes out
I still have the newspaper and the front page says "AND THEN THERE WERE TWO". I am 40,life long Beatles maniac, and honestly don't know how Ill cope when the final Beatle leaves us.
I just wanted to revisit this on the 21st anniversary of George's passing. George may have done other songs, but for me, this is the quintessential George song; quiet, introspective, and melodic. May he rest in peace.
When that mentally unstable person tried to kill him, I was so upset. My favorite Beatle. My girlfriends too. He deserved better, but he gave the world SOO much.

@@phtevenz Most of the second side of "Abbey Road" is comprised of snippets of Beatle songs that were far from completion. Paul McCartney, the businessman of the Beatles was in a panic. Here they were with a deadline for an album and with only really a few legitimate songs. So, Paul turned to George Martin for help. Martin in turn, wove the snippets together into a seamless Rock Symphony and saved the day. Martin truly was the 5th Beatle.
I love this song, but "Something" is an even better George Harrison tune.

The more you listen to what the Beatles did over their short time together, the more you appreciate their genius.
And thanks to George Martin for introducing them to orchestration & studio effects. like a song intro using a guitar feedback.
It just showed how versatile they were but they did do a few "harder"edged songs like Helter Skelter, Revolution(with a powerful opening guitar 🎸riff).The others are George Harrison (who sang this song) and Ringo- the drummer,who sang a few songs,they made I believe 13 albums altogether, so there are enough classics to choose from
Get Back would be another that's a little harder. Also, much of their early stuff, including covers and their own compositions, were straight ahead rock and roll. There's collection of that just called Beatles Rock and Roll.
Their entire catalog is tremendous. "A day in the life" would be a nice next reaction. The Golden Slumbers medley is my personal favorite.

Years ago my friend, who's sister had taken piano lessons as a kid, was thumbing through an old piano music book, and ran across "Golden Slumbers". It is a very old lullaby and was not written by Paul after all. At least the lyrics, I don't know about the music. I need to check on that.
@@mgonzales56 Paul has actually said that he found it in an old piano book, but he didn’t know how to read the music so he made up the melody to the words. He slightly edited the words.

My dad asked to have this played at his funeral. 6 years later and I can listen to it without crying. It is a beautiful song written by George Harrison, he was an amazing song writer, please check out My Sweet Lord ❤

“Drive My Car” is a fun Beatles rocker. “I Saw Her Standing There” off their first album is a classic rocker, everybody does it.

When I saw the Beatles in concert in 1965 in Mpls. the tickets were get this, $5.50. It was like an out-of-body experience! I believe there were 65,000 people with flash bulbs going off everywhere. whole crowds of women fainting everywhere. It was a good kind of nuts! Seeing them literally changed my whole life trajectory because I formed a band and made music my lifes work! At my 50 year class reunion I played Here Comes The Sun for my classmates! So fun!

"Yesterday" is actually Paul's first solo track. no other Beatle appears on that song.
I love Yesterday; but I think Let it be has to be my favourite. I also really like Strawberry Fields.
I think Yesterday was one of the most covered around the world.
'Yesterday' came tune first, in a dream. Paul claims he assumed it was already written & extant in the world, but later worked out in conversations with others that it was original.
Hard to believe the lyrics & title started out as "Scrambled Eggs"...

This is what I currently am singing to my 3 month old granddaughter as a lullaby. I sang it to her mother, my 22 year old daughter and to my 23 year old son...just like my Mom used to sing it to me in the early 70s. We are a Beatles loving family and this song is the one that means the most to me. Love you both so much! Keep spreading that positivity. ✌❤

The most optimistic song ever. Relaxing, calming, brings a smile to my face each time hearing. And often a tear in my eye too.
Here Comes the Sun has always been my favorite Beatles song. George Harrison was a genius when it came to songwriting. He had a good voice and was a good guitarist. He put his heart and soul into his music.
It's my favorite, too. And I always play it after we have like three days on nonstop rain, like a ritual mantra. George would approve! 😏

Those all good. Helter Skelter is the blueprint for heavy metal, according to Ozzy anyway! Also some harder stuff is Oh Darling, I Want You, Why Don’t We Do It In The Road, Taxman, etc. They also did some harder/more rocky stuff as solo artists.

In an interview Eric Clapton said that George wrote this song in minutes on the spot while hanging out in a garden on a spring day . Says something about musicians that are truly blessed with talent .
It's often said that John was the brain, Paul was the heart, George was the soul and Ringo the laughter. I don't know that it was always accurate, but this is the gorgeous George Harrison, he didn't have a lot of songs while in the Beatles (many when he was solo) but they stood out. Try 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'.

I abhor pop culture, do not subscribe to the sentiments of the masses, and will put my musical knowledge against most anybody, but I still don't have the right to judge anyone's "appreciation" of anything, music included. This was the great George Harrison on lead. Try Something for another one of his greatest songs. Ringo Starr was the drummer and infrequent lead but he did do Yellow Submarine and With A Little Help From my Friends, both worthy tunes.
For Ringo, I would recommend his solo stuff, like It Don't Come Easy, or Photograph. However, for a his earliest compositions, Octopus' Garden is a peek into Ringo's whimsy, as is Don't Pass Me By. Early 1970, is a very interesting take by Ringo, about the Beatles, immediately post break up, each verse describes Ringo's relation to each of the members, and then a self deprecating final verse describing his own musical limitations at the time. He is still releasing original music at age 81, with only covid limiting him from touring.
All songs by the Beatles are wonderful. Some are just more wonderful than the others. This is one of them.

Yes he did. What's funny is that he sang it more than once in tribute to John after Lennon was murdered, unaware obviously that it was George's composition.

My late wife loved this song so much. It was probably the last song she heard--a beautiful thing. I can't cry hearing this positive, wonderful song, but some others get to me that way. The great positivity in this anthem is what she wanted played at her funeral.
I've loved everything that George put out there. From his time with The Beatles, to his solo career, and with The Traveling Wilburys. John and Paul's music may have garnered more attention, but George's songs always held their own.

Anyone here who is a Beatles fan, I highly recommend watching “Get Back.” You get to see them jamming and coming up with the songs that will never be forgotten with such ease. The chemistry they had is amazing.
The Beatles had at least 3 frontmen, and this is a George Harrison song. Ringo became a frontman, too, so all 4 were frontmen. 3 of them were songwriters, multi-talented! George is the lead singer on this song. Another great voice, a very soulful man, and he is their lead guitarist…he creates tso many of the great riffs on their songs.

Beatles do not fall into any one category. Their music is all over the place. Not just soft. Varied.
George Harrison and Ringo Star round out the Fab Four... and it's actually George Harrison that you just listened to singing that song. George went on to make some really solid music when the band broke up, and Ringo even had a couple hits afterwards as well.
Please watch the live performance of “Don’t Let Me Down” from the rooftop of their studio building. And Yes the Beatles also have plenty of "harder" rock songs: Revolution, Helter Skelter, Come Together & Back in the USSR to name a few.
Walking through my neighborhood after dawn during the pandemic (to take advantage of the early store hours), I would sing this song as I walked along, to bless the day for everyone around me. :)
George Harrison and Ringo Starr were the other two, Guitar and drums. The classic Harrison song is "Something". The early albums were a bit more rock and the later were more in depth compositions. I want to hold your hand was their first HUGE hit, tho there were a couple before that and as all things Beatles, they were good too. There was one chart that came out in 1964 and they had the top five spots. That record is likely to never be broken. Let's just say that music would in all likelihood be very different today had it not been for them.

Ed Sheehan had 10 songs from one album on top 10: #1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11 (not #10) They’ve changed the rules so no future singer can do that again.

I'm even bold enough to add that if it hadn't been for the Beatles, English would not be the #1 language across the world. Think about it .. once you know that many songs in English inside and out .. you have English .. right? So I've always given them credit for that.
My mom loves the Beatles. She had a CD of their greatest hits that she would play in the car all the time so I grew up listening to them. Some other good ones are "Let it Be", "Yesterday", "I've Just Seen A Face", "All My Lovin'", "Eleanor Rigby", "Can't Buy Me Love" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand".
I looked for a 'Greatest Hits' for the Beatles for decades, until they released their "1" album. I wish somebody releases a 'greatest hits' (IE: Not just their songs to reach number 1) CD, I'd snap that up in a minute. BTW: Here Comes The Sun is my wife's favorite song.

You're making me feel ancient but at the same time I'm really envious that you get to hear all this beautiful music for the first time.
Ringo Starr was their drummer, and sang occasionally. His most famous song is With a Little Help from My Friends, from the Sgt. Pepper album. Ringo has a very distinctive voice. Once you hear him, you'll know when you hear him again. He and Paul are 80-ish and still alive.
You can’t forget “Octopuses Garden” and my favorite, “Photograph”. If you are into movies…..Ringo Starr in Caveman. 😂

John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote almost 300 songs together. The main writer of each song took the lead vocal. George Harrison also wrote songs for the Beatles and sang lead vocals on his songs including Here comes the Sun. I hope this helps to inform your Beatles song choices in the future
The Beatles' two hardest songs would be "Helter Skelter" and "Birthday."
Their most creative work, in my opinion, would be "Within You, Without You" (very spiritual/mystical.) And it's my favorite. The runner up is "A Day In The Life."

And I believe I heard Paul McCartney say that "Helter Skelter" was made to impress Pete Townsend of The Who with how loud and hard-edged a Beatles track could be. Some even see it as a song that led other musicians to move toward 'heavy metal'.

It was George Harrison
The best group ever assembled (litterally once in a lifetime) was the Traveling Willbury's. The group was just a fun little project that started because George Harrison needed a song for the B side of his new release record. His friends were in town and put some masterpieces together while they were jamming. No egos, just fun. The group consisted of Geroge Harrison (Beetles), Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan. If that's not a supergroup, then one never existed. There was never a more perfect group of musicians. Listen to End of the Line and Handle with Care they are gold. Remember these awesome songs were them just having a good time. Their voices are so familiar and soothing as you have heard them in other great groups. FYI, the songs were way too good for a rarely played B side so they put together an album instead, and it is a masterpiece. Poor Roy died a few months later, but his voice is gold in Handle with Care. RIP Tom, Roy & George.

Sadly, I have a recording of the Travelling Wilburys performing "Proud Mary" (Creedence Clearwater Revival" song) live with Bob Dylan. I'm unsure about who did what in there, but there is a LOT (read TOO MUCH) of "scat" and ad libbing and it seems to me like there is a BUNCH of ego involved in that. Literally, as if the ad libber (throwing in a "YEAH!" or a "WOO!" EVERY LINE) thinks HE should be singing lead on this one, not whoever is actually singing lead. A pity really, because ALL of them are very talented.

The Beatles composed over 270 songs, had 27 number 1 hits, and very few clunkers in the bunch.
They all had successful solo careers as well.
Think about that for a second … 10% of their songs went to number 1!

When George wrote this the Beatles were in the process of breaking up and band members were forced to attend many boring and aggravating legal and business meetings. One morning George just blew the meetings off and visited his friend Eric Clapton on a bright sunny day and wrote HCTS in a one off session.
Every one of the Beatles were top musicians. This was by George Harrison and he wrote some beautiful songs. Ringo Starr the drummer, did a great song "Yellow Submarine" which is just kooky and fun, sort of like Ringo is. Love them all! You can't go wrong with the Beatles.
Ringo also sang the original version of With a Little Help from My Friends.
Ringo sang YELLOW SUBMARINE, but Lennon/McCartney wrote it. Ringo wrote OCTOPUS'S GARDEN and DON'T PASS ME BY.

@@davidt9238 well just going by what people during that time say and George was like Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones as he felt close to him because he was in a similar situation in the Stones as George was in the Beatles with the Situation with Paul and John vs Mick and Kieth and I guess they both felt like they were a bit invisible in the band sometimes just going by an article I read when Jones died George had written an article talking about Brian it was kind of eye opening and a bit sad too but I’m with you as I’ve always been a big George Harrison fan myself too !

The fact is that the Beatles always put the ART into their artistry. Their music is a theatrical performance that is totally beautiful and evocative. They created concepts with every song.
George at this time was coming into his own as a songwriter. Imagine being George and writing a song at home. He had to bring that song to Lennon and McCartney at practice and play it to two of the greatest songwriters of all time. Think of how intimidating that had to be. George did say that he often times brought in a song but did not show it to them for fear of being embarrassed. But, he got better and better, and was almost on par with them by the time they broke up.
"Get Back" and "Help" are a couple of harder songs from them and they're really good..of course lol. But another really great feel good song that'll give you goosebumps is "Something" 💕✌
As a Beatle, George Harrison tended to have quieter, more introspective songs like this one. (Of course there are exceptions; the first one I think of is "Taxman.") John and Paul sort of limited George's contributions-LONG story. By the time George became a solo artist he got to explore every side of his music. George Harrison has some fantastic "harder" songs. "What is Life" is probably my favorite. I also love "Wah-Wah" and also the very spiritual hard rock song, "Awaiting on You All." That last one has the immortal rhyming of, "You don't need no passport/You don't need no visas/You don't need to designate or to emigrate/before you can see Jesus." Brilliant!

"The Beatles are so damn good!" So true-only the greatest band in history. You could spend a whole month going through their treasure trove of songs. Here comes the sun is off the album Abbey Road, considered one of the best albums ever recorded. Come together, something, and the whole side B medley is amazing.
