    The chorus in the background, using 1970's technology was laid down one voice at a time. ALL the voices are George Harrison!! And the credit on the album sleeve is to the George O'Hara -Smith singers. The entire album is a masterpiece and the first post-Beatle album to hit number 1. A triple album that hit triple platinum within days of release.

      Favorite Beatle? The one we're talking about now. I feel that George Martin is also a Favorite Beatle. He was there to suggest, to create, to assist. I sometimes wonder how All Things Must Pass would have been if he would have produced, rather than Spector.

      I don't have a favourite, each one had their own charisma, their own way of playing and contributing to the band. What happens is that Paul and John were the most visible to the public since most of the compositions were created by them two, but George was the most shy but he composed some of the most beautiful songs of The Beatles and the same happens with Ringo, the funniest of the four and he also composed songs for the band. All of them without exception are my favourites and the greatest in music.

  • @ZigbertD

    I'm not in any way religious but this song to me is just a pure, forthright and honest expression of a longing for love, peace, compassion, and connection that I can't help but be moved by it.

    The "Quiet Beatle" made a lot of noise in his solo career. Not only had he performed with the biggest and best names, he spear-headed a number of humanitarian causes. I grew up on The Beatles, but George was the one who ultimately changed the way I looked at and felt about life. I think you would be hard-pressed to find anyone who didn't feel that way about the man. PS: Listen to WAH-WAH; nothing quiet about that one!!!

  • @roykaplan
    @roykaplan 2 года назад +1008

    Although it is lovely to think he was saying hallelujah in other languages, he was in fact saying the meditative mantra of the Hare Krishna movement that was popularized in the 60's/70's. Also at the end he is giving shout-outs to the spiritual leaders and gurus of the Eastern religions into which he immersed himself. He used the word play between hallelujah and hare krishna to introduce Eastern religious themes into Western culture. This furthers his introduction of Eastern musical instruments into Western music during his time with the Beatles.

    This song was co-written with Billy Preston who also released a version. During the "Concert for George", Billy Preston performed an amazing inspirational rendition of "My Sweet Lord" with an Allstar cast on stage, all while Billy kept the secret that he had terminal, end-stage cancer and died just a few months later. That rendition should be watched, and felt, by you and your watchers.

    • @m.vondrake5534
      @m.vondrake5534 2 года назад +10

      @@alexhamilton9758 many people may not realize that the term Producer implies creativity in composition (writing, musical arrangements), Phil Spector said that while George Harrison wrote the lyrics, rhythm guitar and that excellent slide guitar work, Billy Preston created all the keyboard and Hammond Organ music (writing) and the band "Bad Finger" performed the rest of the instruments in the recording. In the Billy Preston version, Billy took more of a lead in Production, it has some differences in lyrics and composition especially to the back-up vocals as Billy wanted a more Gospel feel which George really enjoyed. The personal in the recording is the same. George let Billy release it first thinking it would be a bigger "hit" than his, but when Billy's version of the song fluttered on the charts, George released his version believing it would give Billy Preston the royalties and credit he deserved.

    I will never take away from this song because it is so beautifully and perfectly done. Following his death, a number of well known musicians held a concert in George's honor. The concert included George's son, Dhani Harrison, on the acoustic guitar who is a spitting image of his father. This song was one of the songs they played with Billy Preston (you just reacted to "Nothing from Nothing" by Billy Preston) having the honor of being the lead vocalist. OMG! Billy did such an amazing job (as did the rest of the group) that I have no doubt in my mind that George was smiling down from Heaven. Even if you don't react to it, you have to watch the video. It will leave a positive and lasting impression with you.

Whatever you think of it, My Sweet Lord was a huge smash hit. I believe at the time, it was the biggest hit by any solo Beatle, which I find ironic since when the band was together, George was always overshadowed by Paul and John. "What is Life" - fact is that first real solo album "All Things Must Pass' is a treasure.
    George was always my favorite Beetle, I love the solo in :'Til There Was You" ... George was humble, down to earth, humorous and reserved but really was like the icing on the cake in the early Beetles -John and Paul would bring in a song then George and Ringo would just make up their own parts to it i.e. the guitar licks in "And I love Her" and main riff in "Day Tripper" were all George's input. That's the way most bands work. Plus "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something" on the last LP were among all the rest of the Beetles best catalog. "Something" likely the song most covered by other artist.
    Anyway, you'll find his fingerprints on many songs in the late sixties and early seventies under alias. As a songwriter easily on par with John or Paul yet George was so just one of the guys he rarely if ever flaunted his talent nor celebrity.
    "The Traveling Wilburys" - a band George pretty-much formed (created) out of happen-stance from 'Handle With Care".

    Amber is very spot on, George's voice sounds very pleasant even when he's just humming and it happens also in interviews, I can listen to him talking or singing for hours and not only for his voice but for the message on his statements or lyrics.
    This song is a hymn of praise, transmits hope as well as Jay's words at the end of every video 'We love you, we thank you, we appreciate you, everyday is a blessing', all that rhymes very well with the song, and that's what the world needs, especially now with the current events, this song takes much more relevance than ever before.

    I remember sitting in the car with my Dad and asking him to turn up the radio - I loved this song so much he actually did it for me. Struck a real chord in me as a young teen.
