      @@keithharris6442 I think Here Comes The Sun would have been a great single. George developed into an incredible songwriter. He was a man of contradictions. His mansions and race cars were paid for by Lennon/McCartney songs. He greatly enjoyed his wealth, and he also benefitted from the freedom it afforded him to explore songwriting. He could have been one of a million gifted musicians who never had a chance, we have all known them. L/M were a miracle.

    • @keithharris6442
      @keithharris6442 Год назад +1

      @Lucie Melahn agree Lucie about Here Comes the Sun, but he'd never get 2 singles off the album. One thing exposes George's volume of work compared to John and Paul is that when he had a Greatest hits issued, his record company had to include his Beatle songs too. He had half a dozen great songs, compared to John and Paul's dozens each.
      But as we know, each Beatle was important, none could be replaced.

    • @loosilu
      @loosilu Год назад

      @@keithharris6442 John and Paul had hundreds each to be honest. George didn't write on demand, he wrote to express himself. I don't have a source but supposedly there's a quote from George saying to Paul, I don't know how you write so many songs about nothing, for me they have to be about something. I'm sure it's completely mangled but it has the ring of truth. Paul was always able to just write songs on demand. When I watched Get Back, I always knew these things. But I was blown away by how the record company happily threw money at literally anything if it resulted in more Lennon/McCartney hits. George never had ANY pressure to support an entire industry. And honestly an entire economy. The beatles were awarded MBEs because they literally turned around the UK economy. And that's because of Lennon/McCartney

    The Beatles' members included: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Most of their songs were written by Lennon & McCartney. In this case George Harrison wrote Something. He was also the lead singer and the one playing the lead guitar in this song. Paul McCartney played bass and sang the backup vocals in this song. ALL four of them sing lead at times. John and Paul sing lead the most. Other Beatles' songs to react to Include: Help, I Feel Fine, Let It Be, Hey Jude, Helter Skelter, Oh Darling, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Yesterday, If I Fell, And I Love Her, Here Comes The Sun, Come Together, Revolution, A Day In The Life, Hello Goodbye, All You Need Is Love, A Little Help From My Friends and She Loves You. The best way to listen to the Beatles is to start with MEET THE BEATLES (album#1, that they recorded in 1 day,......the whole album), or their Hamburg stuff. Then follow them chronologically. You get a glimpse of how great they were and how fast they advanced as writers and studio engineers. Ringo, the drummer, was their most talented musician, but least talented writer. George Harrison (the solo here and the writer of this song) was a junior writer and the lead guitarist. John Lennon and Paul McCartney met at a church fair in July of 1957 (16 and 15 years old respectively, Paul's birthday being a few weeks earlier) and quickly realized like minded talent in each other. Paul brought George in the next year (1958) and for a while The Quarrymen, then Long John Silver and the Moondogs, Johnny and the Moondogs, The Silver Beetles, and later, when John's friend Stu Sutcliff joined them in 1961 for their Hamburg Germany gigs, the name The Beatles came from their short termed, short lived bassist (he died the next year of a brain anyerism.) Paul took over for Stu, then, a year later, they finally got a pro to join the group when Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey) took over for the mis-cast, out-cast Pete Best on drums. They instantly soared to the tops in Britian, then Northern Europe, and a year later their songs were creeping into the US. By February 1964 they were top of the charts and within weeks they had the top 4 songs on the top 10, and 14 songs on the top 100 all in the same week. Pretty good for a 1 day recording. The rest is history.

      They had the TOP 5 songs on the top 10 the first week of April 1964. I don't understand why you would call RINGO their "most talented MUSICIAN" Yes, Ringo's DRUMMIN is PHENOMENAL and I think he is one of the greatest Rock drummers ever. But as far as musicianship, that would have to go to PAUL (besides being the bassist, is also a fantastic lead guitarist, acoustic guitar, piano, keyboards, ukulele, drums and percussion), JOHN ( also more than just a rhythm guitarist, but also on lead and bass, keyboards, harmonica and piano), and GEORGE (fantastic lead guitarist, but also plays bass, acoustic guitar, and piano) I would say that Paul has played the most variety of instruments. RINGO is mainly Drums, bongos and percussion (tambourine, maracas ), He doesn't play as many instruments as the others.

    The Beatles were a 1960's band composed of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison (who wrote and sung this song), and Ringo Starr. Yoko Ono was John's wife, and not a member of the band.
    They all played different instrumental roles in the band depending on the song, but the usual lineup is John on rhythm guitar, Paul on bass, George on lead guitar, and Ringo on drums. Every member has provided lead vocals for a song or written a song. This is one of the exceptions to the instrumental roles, where John is on piano and George takes both rhythm and lead guitar roles. If you know who Billy Preston is, he's featured on this track playing the organ.
    If you want more songs of theirs to react to, I'll recommend 1 song written and sung by the other members from around this time.

    In this video you see Pattie Boyd Harrison and George Harrison first, THEN John Lennon and Yoko Ono Lennon, then Maureen Cox Starkey wife of Ringo Starr and Ringo, then Linda Eastman McCartney and Paul McCartney (Linda and Paul snuggling and leaping around wit Paul's dog Martha) George wrote that song about his wife Pattie. At the end of the song you see each Beatle's face in this order: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr (real name Richard Starkey), and lastly George Harrison who wrote "SOMETHING" and sings lead on it. Yoko doesn't play in the band.

    If you are listening to this group for the first time, I will sort of warn you that this song is not representative of their catalog. They were a very diverse group and effortlessly migrated to the genres. However, this song is representative of the high standards and frequent beauty of their music. In fact, they changed so dramatically at times the fans would be amazed and puzzled by the changes and the rest of the music business struggled to keep up.

      The early Sixties Beatles, mid-Sixties Beatles, and late Sixties Beatles could have been three different bands. It’s mind-boggling that a group could go in different directions, continue to write great songs and never lose popularity. It was big news when they broke up. That tells you how much of an impact they had on the culture.

      Why should most young people? This song was recorded nearly 55 years ago. Even John, Paul, George and Ringo weren't that knowledgeable of music from 1903, which was the equivalent distance in time away from this recording.

      @@loosilu you're probably right. I used to work in a shop with young people in the UK and their music came over the internal radio all the time, but pretty much none of the kids knew who they were. They were obviously hearing them over the loudspeakers, the same as I was, but not aware of them.

    Yoko Ono really wasn't a member of the band. She was just John Lennon's girlfriend kind of a hang on. She was an artist in her own right though. Rumor has it that it was her who broke the Beatles up but again that's just a rumor
