Great presentation! Thanks for your reverence to the Orishas (Lwa-Spirits); sure the Universe was in full vibration as we watched this outstanding performance. Ashe... Ayibobo!!!
I wish i new whatcthey were singing. This is my culture. My heritage. My roots. My father never taught his kids Spanish, the language in which he was taught to speak. When i hear this, my heart sings.. it aches and tears form in my eyes. I feel my ancestors crying out.
Love this music! Thank you for posting this! Touches something in my Mexican DNA! Feels tribal, ethnic, spiritual! More please! Connecting me to my ancestors!
Shine baby shine it's true, but most Mexicans without evening noticing have some African DNA due to the salves brought to Mexico that intermarried into the native and European population. In Mexico, African heritage is known as "la tercera raíz" or the " 3 root".
@@shinebabyshine. Well now it's a new world religion , the african core will always be there , but it's growth is due to many other peoples participating in it.
John Ramirez was an ex- Satan worshipper. Santeria doesn't condone or encourage devil worshiping at all. You may want to educate yourself on this beautiful, earth- based religion before you compare it to anything devil- related.
There's potentially good and bad in everything in, this world. Santeria unfortunately is a religion that continues to be highly misinterpreted and maligned by the “mainstream” in Western society. Yet, this religious practice embodies beautiful traditions with long-hidden roots, many which remain undiscovered. Followers of Santeria typically recognize that all religions have a degree of truth and respect the value of nature and all living things. In fact, there is no specific belief in a devil because the Yoruba belief system is not based on a dualistic philosophy where good versus “evil”. The perception of morality though, is quite complex, as all declarations of right, wrong, good and bad are based on the circumstances in which they arise. Surely, there's Santeria practitioners who take full advantage of people, just like in ANY RELIGION, and who connotes evil or licentious behavior but not every story if Santeria comes close to the one of John Ramirez. His was unfortunate.
There’s on dark skinned person representing African culture. The same thing happens with Native Americans, mostly light skinned. Not trying to shut them down because I’m mixed Native American, African and Spanish and light skinned but wish there was more dark skinned people involved to encourage and promote involvement and validation.
In every major religion there are always people who take a beautiful positive thing and take it to the DARK side, It says more about the twisted imbalance of that individual soul than an entire Religion or cosmological system. I know that America with all its might and 50 year blockade was never able to bring Cuba to its knees. Santeria may not be the reason why but it is certainly part of the equation..
You are absolutely correct! The Spirits remain ever present in our daily lives. The Lwa-Orishas are there to serve, provide guidance, and more importantly, protection. For all their sacrifices - we are truly grateful! Stay positive!!! Ayibobo!!!
This is music from my religion and culture yet I only see one person that looks like me! Why is everything from Africa or Africans whether American, Latin American, or even Caribbean (as in Afro Cuban like myself) always appropriated!
You’re wrong. They are mullattos. (Yoruba origin- they learnt the language and religion from their forefathers, something mordern Yorubas like us do not practice anymore) There is no appropriation here.
This ensemble sings exactly like the Yoruba people of South-West in Nigeria. I wish your forefathers wouldn't have been carted away from the rich land of Africa to far away Cuba. You people would have been part of the development we have been yearning for in Africa.
Perdonen pero aquí ni los tambores sonaron bien, mucho menos la pronunciación de la lectura del principio, eso pasa cuando un monton de personas que nada tienen que ver con la obra se lanzan a ser mas papistas que el papa. Nsala Malecum
Santeria comes from the Caribbean islands like Cuba and Puerto Rico when slaves were brought from Nigeria, Benin, Togo, etc they were not allowed to practice their beliefs and were forced to be baptized as Catholics so they practiced Yoruba religion while connecting an orisha to a saint so they wouldn't get in trouble hence the name Santeria.

John Ramirez wrote a book called "Out of the Devil's Cauldron." He used to be a high priest in Santeria, and he exposes the truth of that practice. I highly recommend checking him out on RUclips and reading his book.

Pls this music sound like Yoruba language
Yes it's origin is yoruba
because it is
It is Yoruba language. The old one that we have mostly forgotten even and is only used in traditional religion
It's good, but seems lacking without the dance component. 🤷🏿♀️
