- We've been accused of growing the most controversial plant on the planet, at least 100 times & counting: between in-person encounters here on the farm, in our old yard when we lived in the city & now through our videos.
Trust us. It's not at all what you think!
These 3 beautiful & useful look-alikes are some have been super important around the farm & you're about to see why we always aim to include them in our client's projects, as well!
If you want to start growing these unusual edible & medicinal plants in your garden, farm or landscape, we might suggest sharing this video with your whole neighborhood, so they don't start stealing it or sending enforcements. (Yes we've had both happen.)

Folks would put red Christmas ornaments on their pot plants so they looked like tomato plants...lol
That’s a good one!
That's funny, and they had a merry christmas as long as the cops didn't come check it out.
....and now you know why Walmart starts selling Christmas stuff in September....lol
Yes, a Future cannabis Video.
I like to know the current rules on cannabis and Hemp in Florida.
Hey Guys! Here are the botanical names for these plants in order. Sorry I was hoping to get them in the video. 🌱
Cassava- (manihot esculenta)
Vitex- (Vitex agnus-castus)
Kenaf- (Hibiscus cannabinus)
Looking like some big ass Indica leaves to me. Lol just joking, I know the difference, my mom had some growing back in the day, so I decided to grow the real indica mixed with a couple sativas next to her mock cannabis plants. It's great thing when your mom takes care of your cannabis plants when you're at work. 😆 Good old early 1980s indeed. Hell she didn't know difference until they flowered. Oops lol America's new cash crop will be here in no time. 👍 When nature is illegal we got some serious issues. Go Team Green. Love your channel brother. Gardner at heart all my life. No matter how people stand on the cannabis debate. I'm for it. 👍
Thanks Jim! I appreciate the support 🙏
I used to cut the tips of the leaves off so there was a squared tip. No one recognized them for what they were.
Funny. I almost lopped off the top of my Roselle the week before it began blooming. It was creeping over my fence and I didn't want my neighbors to call the cops.
Too funny! I feel ya 😝
Wow, the vitex is beautiful and the hibiscus looks yummy...the fun never ends...
This is both funny and informative. I made errors once too until I closely checked the difference between cannabis and some similar-looking plants. Btw, I recommend Vitex negundo for respiratory ailments. It is also safe for dogs. I have a sickly dog prone to kennel cough and it is what I give her (in capsule form). Anyway, thank you, Pete. More power to your amazing channel!
Another good video, Pete. I have run into this too with cassava. Please do follow up with a video about what is happening with cannabis and hemp growing here in Florida. Things are changing fast.
Interesting tidbit about the hibiscus canibius, they grow very much like cannibis very very similar. Interesting that they are both used for fiber in commercial settings.
Lol, why is it so therapeutic to watch you do your "real quick if you were to propagate this plant" in reference to the casava with all the sound effects of your super quick breakdown of the plant. That made me laugh, I enjoyed that... replayed that 10 seconds three times... that camera picks up good sound effects! Crunch crunch. I have a vytex/butterfly bush in Texas and people always comment on that one to me as well.. Wow, the Vytex is medicinal for women? Will have to verify I have the right variety and try that out with my wife. I wished I lived near you I'd love to volunteer or work for Green Dreams, looks like you guys work hard in a therapeutic way. I was prescribed medical cannabis in Massachusetts for a bit when I was struggling with a lot of stress symptoms in my body and it helped. I noticed that some strains made it worse, some made it better. The stuff grown in the sun is WAY easier to digest so to speak... I hated feeling overly medicated or high or jumpy etc, so I adhered to microdoses. I used it for about two-three months and haven't had much of it since then.. also I live in Texas now so that's kind of not an option. I DO wish that we could use my grandparents ranch to grow industrial hemp though... they keep teasing us every year and flaking out. I saw an organic hemp grow operation and processing facility when I just came back driving from Philly to DFW. I think it was in Tennessee but it might have been one of the Virginias. We were lost in the Appalachians haha.. somewhere in there. It was really nice looking. Further Edit: It will be interesting for sure to see what all comes out of cannabis for growing your own fertilizer/syntropic system and permaculture and how it fits in to the whole thing. I've seen online that you can juice it like kale and as long as you don't include any fats there is zero noticeable effect yet you get the health benefit, I thought that was pretty neat. Technically I could try that in Texas since they prosecute you based off of how much mature bud you have and since you would always keep it in the vegetative state there wouldn't be any, but I'm not willing to run the risk of that nor do I like breaking the law.
thanks Pete..... growing hemp here in va...... love to see the hemp production in Florida
Great stories thanks “for right now”
Cassava is a common root crop in the Philippines. Some regions eat cassava as a part of their meals as substitute for rice or sweet potatoes/potatoes. We prepare cassava as a dessert , prepare it with meats or other vegetables.
That was fun and educational. Cheers
Thanks Joshua!
LOL yeah I grow these and also okra and people think sometimes its weed. Cracks me up.
Grow your own!!! It’s the healing of the nation!!!!!
hello Pete, just subscribed.
Police came to my house, my neighbors called on me.
I told the them its just Orka, we were all laughing after that.
Got to love it! 🤣🤣🤣
This is an example of the Fibonacci sequence in nature. Not sure how the plants use this strategy to their advantage. Papaya is similar as well but much larger
I love the patterns of nature!
Great vid Pete 👍🏾 What song is that btw?
Wonder if the healing properties are similar? :)
Sweet video brother!!
Thanks man!
Another great video!! I have to start growing cassava!
Thanks Tyler!
You forgot cleome! I know it's not a tree, but it looks almost identical to cannabis, has the serrated leaves and even the aroma of cannabis! I had a police man question what it was when it was growing up by my mail box🤣💚
Good one! That’s great 🤣
Lets all vote for cannabis in 2020.Michigan has a good law.You can grow 12 cannabis plants per house hold. Now that's a great law and we need that here in Florida in 2020 if not yesterday!I hope we can all grow cannabis soon. Its one of Gods greatest plants!
Great video!
Thanks Michael!
I want to grow all 4 of them! To me Chinese maple looks like good bud too
The cassava plant has shown up in other YTers vids and it does look similar to cannabis when not up close. Hopefully cannabis is completely legalized soon, pretty ignorant that it's not already
Agreed!
It will happen...:-) The research will be in showing how safe it is ....I'm on medical weed and memory problems come up but studies are showing a protective nature....??? Times are always a changing it will happen....
Love the new greenhouse
Thanks guys!
My Wife loves her cleome (aka spider flowers) in her garden. Every year we have people ask if it is cannabis. Next door has their Japanese Maple (acer palmatum) They get the same questions. Looking forward to your video on the Florida MMJ work being done.
Thanks Mark!
The non-native Hibiscus cannabinus doesn't look nearly as much like Cannabis as the Florida native Hibiscus coccineus.
I heard Mom says otherwise...lol :) Good stuff Pete...
Doesn't matter I plant cassava and papaya trees next to mi cannabis because of the policulture
Cassava does resembles an Indica from a distance, but none of them are quite as beautiful as the real thing.
True!
Cannabis is such a beautiful and fragrant plant!
That first one I think we have house plants like that up here in Canada could that be the same one?? Lol cannabis is legal here we have one growing on the main Street in my town lol one growing in the main Street next town over too :-)
I used to work at a park and there was a serrated vitex and people used to dig up the seedlings and smoke em... probably didn’t pan out well for em.
That’s freaking hilarious! 🤣
Haha, funny video Pete. We call vitex false cannabis around here, 😂
Thanks Sean! That’s a good one
The Texas Star Hibiscus(Hibiscus coccineus) gives my garden the most trouble for looking vaguely like cannabis
Very cool that you are embracing the taboo topic
There i was confused by the strange flowers on the Cassava. Turns out its vitax. Thanks for clearing that up. Great videos by the way.
Thanks!
Exactly what I was hoping for Pete...some Wisdom on cannabis...got the answer now to wait... appreciate you bro...👊✌️O yes...
I’m working on it Eddie!
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL Gotcha,Pete...nothing but GreenDreams...✌️👊
Great info. So where is it hidden? "the cannabis" 😅
Another one is Swamp Mallow aka swamp hibiscus. Btw is doing well in my backyard here in land O’Lakes. Back right up into a cypress perserve and swamp that bumps up to my yard. Have found quite a bit of flowering natives that with tolerate wet feet.
@Martin Luther Have not noticed any protection from frost.
There is frost protection in Pinellas county to some extent
Hahaha that’s awesome thank you for this any chance the hybiscus is the same flowers they flavour wine with 😁👍
Hahaha! I have a cassava growing in my yard and every time my mom comes over she asks me "is that marijuana? " She knows now that it isn't but asks anyway. Lol. 😊
Spray it with imitation skunk spray or cat spray and throw her for a loop
That’s great! 🤣
Jejeje thanks men.
There was a man whom had orchards of Okra. The police Helicopters thought he was growing something else, so they raided his farm, pulled out all the Okra by the roots and let them wither and die, even though they knew it was just Okra after seeing it in person. That's your legal system.
Thats just messed up! Was that in Georgia some years back?
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL Not sure which state it was in but I heard it from an ex-police officer that was talking about police corruption.
Good video man! How cold sensitive is Cassava?
Thanks Blake! I haven’t seen it do very well much further north of Florida. It needs at least 8 months of warm weather to produce
Pete Kanaris GreenDreamsFL Welcome man! Thank you going try it next year 🌱🌱🌱
The False Aralia has serrated leaves but they're too long and slim.
We grow several varieties of Japanese Maple, would not want to get pulled over with that in the car..lol
I bet!
I am currently preparing to work with a very cool strain of cannabis bred for stealth, called frisian duck. The leafs are webbed like a ducks foot, giving it an odd appearance. I would like to begin using it to develop a better cannabis strain, purely meant to be grow in places it is still illegal.
That’s really interesting! I love to learn more...
Wow you actually had people steal it or send enforcements??
I always get asked if I grow cannabis lol, I say I'd rather grow Moringa!!
Craziness right?!? Yes, I think it was actually code enforcement that took the cuttings.
i m curious about how cannabis & hemp are doing as an industry in Florida
@Martin Luther so sad.
Cops thought our wild hibiscus hybrid was a massive pot plant growing in our front yard.
Too funny! They coming knocking?!
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL Pulled up behind me while I was watering it and asked me lol.
Your third plant, kenaf, produces a high quality fiber. In this, it has similar value to industrial hemp.
That’s really interesting! Thanks for sharing
Ty4Sharing
Wolf🐺 👍👊👍
I used to have that problem when I lived in California 😂😉
🤘 where can we get these 🙏💚🍁
Hahahaha as a kid growing up in Puerto Rico I can remember people confusing casava for weed they later smoked it and it wasn't a good picture they got intoxicated they had to go to the hospital to get detox it was crazy
Hibiscus Cannabis is called Gongura(గోంగూర) in Telugu, which is a tasty leafy vegetable in South India. Very flavourful, probably an Indian must have harvested for cooking Gongura Mutton curry, a must try dish, you'll fall in love.
My largest problem look alike is Swamp/scarlet Hibiscus.
Too funny 😂
Jatropha multifidia gets mistaken also.
Yes! Good call
If all those plants were cannabis $
Word! I’d be retired ✌️😝
Do you know where i can find a viable coffee plant in Florida
There’s coffee plans available all over south Florida. Now viable for actually producing coffee is questionable. Coffee likes a higher elevation with cooler temps at night.
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL I see
Is there any way I can take it indoor at night so it gets colder
This is crazy , about 10 yrs ago my mother and her husband was grow yucca and a lot of it he was from the island, the police saw it from the express way and one day the swatteam came with machine guns and had my mom and her husband at gun point until one of the offeriers saw that it was yucca and they left .
That’s a crazy story! Was that here in Florida??
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL yes hear at my house and I'm growing it from that original crop they had
You’re missing the Japanese maple leaf
watch your channel grow now petey :D
It’s all about that click bait 🤣
The first one is Singkong
very funy tapioca is eating very good .
I guess if you've never seen a cannabis plant before in your life you could mistake these plants, smh
OOH!! PETE I LOVE UR POOCH... N SO SWEET HES HOPPED ONTO UR BUGGY RIDE TOO... SUPER!!
The 2nd plant looks like canabis
cannabis#1 plant of all time
More health benefits than the Moringa 😃
DARN !
It’s coming! 😉
Call me. Please. I do a little skill.
Respecto✌
Lol
It is only a matter of time before cannabis is removed from the list of banned substances in North America's professional sports leagues.🏌️♂️🏈🏀
jds hempfarm cannabis does not give you a hangover that’s alcohol
i want some cassava cuttings?
I had a roselle that a neighbor thought was cannabis. Or maybe it was the acetosella that was growing next to it. Is there a cannabis with beautiful red leaves? Anyway, they're all hibiscuses.
Oh yeah, maybe it was the okra - also a hibiscus!
Hey Andrea! Yup, okra is super similar also.
How is your mom, has she gotten well yet?
She’s holding it dealing with dialysis. Thanks for asking
@@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL Well, I'll keep praying for her healing.
Its strange u had to make a vid for this lol...👍👍
It’s was more fun and clickbait then anything.
Did you smoke them
Too funny!
dude, I live in texas ( a non-legal state for cannabis) and I know the difference between these plants very well. I didnt even have to take any botany classes. If youre accusing this man of growing cannabis all day then you should reevaluate your life man, you don't have a life if you pick on people because youre all too sensitive to your own emotions. Now that ive cooled down im gonna sit back and enjoy this man's content exactly how he wants me to.
The people stealing that hibiscus are in for a treat when they come to south east asia. You can find like 10 different cannabis look-alike plants growing on someone's frontyard with a chance of finding the real one in one of them.
Just kidding. You don't have to go to someone's frontyard. Just find some place with dirt really. They grow like weeds lol
Buds on cannabis are also flower's bruh
Plants to grow to hide your cannabis lol
Good one!!
How the 3rd plant smells?
Cuz I brought an ancient cannabis flower to my home and some body who doesn't know that , said what's the poison smell 😂😂
Fun fact that's not even grew as drug
iku wet jendal pakde....
ok now show us the weed farm.
One day!
Pete can you pin a message on the Latin names please.... Thanks for your time
Done 👊
Screw cannabis and other drugs!Keep it healthy!
cassava is not related to true yuccas
😂
🤣
Why would cannabis be indoors in Florida? Isn't Florida a good climate for growing sativas Outdoors?
When it becomes legal to grow of course.
Not sure but maybe it has something to do with the humidity or for security reasons.
Ha... Yeah it's mistakable for cannabis.
La mota.
But i am.. 😆
🤣
ok but why DONT you grow weed
Because it’s not legal for just anyone to grow weed in Florida. Maybe one day
Cool 😎 Pete another one ☝️ !!! Not cannabis guys 😆
🤣
