These Supra videos are hitting way too close to home over here. When I was 18 back in 1999 I got my first supra. It was an 83, black and was in a amazing shape. Made so many good memories in it for a few years but I wanted to upgrade to a MK3 so bad that I sold it to upgrade to an 88, 7m turbo. Bought a cheap one, ran most of the time, but lost a lot of money on it and sold it a few years later for cheap... still loved it. A few years roll by and I manage to get a 1990 right hand drive 1JZ in black. So much fun! Still a money pit, but had 2 young kids and ended up having to sell it... that broke my heart. Years pass, and they announce the MK5, I immediately love it (might have been the only one), but no manual, and I couldn't afford it anyway. So it was nice to see them when they drive past. Then last year they announce the manual and for the first time in my life I was in a position to afford one. That same day, I went down to my dealership and ordered a 2023 manual in black (without even touching one)... and because I'm in Canada... I'm here... waiting. My allocation is eventually going to get filled, but 8 months of waiting is getting rough. Fingers crossed I can get it before winter 🤦♂️
My first car was the long-forgotten 1st generation Supra (79-81). Mine was an 81, metallic black with the gold Shelby wheels. Took me through college at UF....suffered greatly in dusty and dirty freshman parking. But I loved that car. To me it looked great, and I miss her.
my first new car was an 81 Supra and It was loaded. Shadow Louver Kit, Nice Ground Effects(dealer option) Premium wheels leather, power everything , premium component stereo. Loved it. 2 tone black and silver. Best car I ever owned.
What a great review. So cool you took a little less money to give the car to someone that would cherish and dream of having it. My Grandma bought a 1986 Supra when i was 16 and was afraid to take it to its top speed which was something my Grandfather has always done in every car he owned. Unfortunately he passed away in 1985. I got a call. It was the absolute best day in 16 year old kids life. We were approaching right around 130 to 135 if i remember correctly at which point she said ok that is good enough. That straight 6 was screaming. I gave her the biggest hug and thank you when we got back. Lol
Back in 94', I had an 88' Turbo, 5 spd Targa top. All the bad with all the good and I LOVED this thing. 😢 Drove from Cincinnati to Chattanooga many times. Super comfy.
What a great comparison! It’s great to see Jared’s thoughts on his and many peoples “dream” car. Sad to see the MK3 go but Nate seems like a great guy for it!
This is a lovely video you did. The new supra looks nice from the outside, and I know it is more powerful, but I prefer the late 80s and 90s Toyota supra to keep. The reason why, they are 100 % pure Japanese. I wouldn't say I liked having BMW mixed with this piece of art of Toyota Supra. I want you to buy a Toyota Corolla g6 1999 or 2000 and make a video about it. I have a 1999, and it was a fantastic little sports car. It was never introduced in North America.
The MK3 was always my favorite. I had the older '84 Supra, but my friend had an '88 Turbo, and that car was a blast. The only thing that ever beat us away from a light (back in the early '90s) was a Mercedes S600.
I think you nailed the breakdown. Couldn’t agree with you more. I had a 7mgte mk3 that I totaled. Now I have a 1jz r154 swapped sc and love them both. The sc is loud and bumpy and sucks in traffic but that’s exactly what it’s made to do and does a hell of a job at it.

Glad you addressed the buffeting / pressure noise on modern cars ! I don’t have a Toyota but have experienced it on all modern cars , so much so I have to equalise the pressure by opening all the windows before it becomes acceptable .
Hey Jared, love the vid, I know how it feels to let one of your well loved vehicles go that has ended it's journey with you. Then it's better to let them go and make somebody else as happy with it as you were when you just got it! Little tip: Maybe try to get a mic that works a little better while driving? Engine noises are cool ofcourse but sounds like a lot of other noises as well!
I know you had to sell one to complete the other but danm the TwinR IS the 70Supra to have, the one that get all the love in Jpn and the prices are only getting higher as time passes by specially manuals. With a Dogbox Trans already installed then ,IDK how much you sold for but it is a great option for a collectors\ driver sportscar.
For the vast majority of car owners, a car is just a machine, a method of transportation that gets you to work, and home again. The only joy in driving it is listening to the radio. But not Jared, what sets enthusiasts apart from that majority is the understanding that some cars are meant to be driven, we're not driving for driving's sake, but the fact we enjoy it. And that attitude is reflected in the decision to sell to that buyer for less money. A+ content, keep up the work!
As a former Mk3 owner, because i was moving states and i only could bring 1 vehicle... the closest successor to the mk3 and mk4 Supra is the LC500. The feel of a property sorted mk3 and mk4, with out the over the top power, is a great grand tourer. You are 💯% correct, the new mk5 Supra is a sports car. Unfortunately, the LC500 doesn't have the i6 and would have loved if it was an option sitting between the turbo4 and the v8.
Jared is right about a lot of people liking the early 90’s supra. I like this style, but my favorite is the 85-86 Supras…..i just love that body style.
I like the MK4. But fanboys made that car impossible to buy second hand. But the mk5 is absolutely beautiful. Regardless of engine the lines on that car is amazing. If the A90 comes with a targa I will buy that car in a heartbeat
We had this 1991 black supra in U.K. and i can say this supra can do 160 mph all day long, best handling and very reliable because we used to thrash the crap out of it and the car responds with "is that all you got " . A Word of advice, keep it parked up if it is raining and snowing or you will be killed driving it.
The major thing missing here is price. MKII's even the rare nice ones you want are a fraction of the price of an MKIV or MKV. These cars are unobtainable to most and frankly I just love my MKIII so much, I wouldn't want anything else. Not to mention it has the coolest gauge cluster, looks, and best seats EVER. Gets an insane amount of attention and is a complete blast to drive.
Jared talked about my biggest issue with new cars and it is huge. The fact that they have infotainment systems that are so baked into vehicles. What is going to happen in 10 years when they die and you have to buy a $2k head unit to make them operational. Right now I will not buy new because of that.
I love seeing Jared try on these little sports cars... as a similarly proportioned man, this saves me the hassle of ever having to walk into a showroom to know that I won't be comfortable, and I should stick with minivans and SUVs. No mid-life crisis car for me!! #dadwagon4life
I love watching Jared talking about his passions. Please keep making amazing videos. Tbh I would watch a questionable garage video now before a tavarish video. Tavarish's wrenching is way to unobtainable for someone like me. FYI I'd still watch both
Hi Jared nice vehicle 's i like the older one because its wider but the cornering is the best one is the new one i like them both really well nice dress up time !!!😊
I have a 2022 Supra in Nitro Yellow. I love it. But I feel it is more a modern take on the 2000GT than a Supra. The genV is a great daily, lots of trips to the grocery store getting groceries for a family.of.six and it all fits in the trunk. With bimmercode I removed the fake engine noises, disabled start/stop, added sport plus, and defaulted the car to start each time in Sport, not in Normal mode. I also installed the wind buffeting triangles. The turn on is so precise and light on its feet. I wish the steering was not so numb and brakes could be more firm with better feedback in the pedal.
I miss my mk3, to me the mk3 is my favorite and the only one I'd ever buy and even on top of that is the 7mgte is my favorite engine idk why I just honestly love it.
SCCA and NASA. The MKIV Supra is classed in the SCCA Grand Touring 2 (GT2) class using a Lexus 3UZ-FE 4.3 V8 engine, and in Touring 1 (T1) using the original 2JZ-GTE engine.
Everybody likes the A80, but the boxiness of the A70 does it for me. A well built/tuned 7MGTE does street duty very well, and is cheaper. The A60 with the right set of wheels, suspension and aero is also another great choice for slow car fast, pure sports car experience
That's how I feel about the designs of the A70 and A80. The A80 is an incredible performer and I like the rear view of it, but I'm not fond of the front of it and favor the simplicity of the A70. If I ever got around to buying a Supra I would probably aim for an A70.
I think it was popular to just hate on the car since it was the partnership that brought us this car, and lots was not changed over from BMW. But ultimately those who love cars could look past that and enjoy it's purpose and build as it should be. Now that the initial heat of the easy hate is gone, you see more and more people accepting and enjoying the new Supras in many ways. Glad that you also enjoyed it Jared as a avid Supra additionist. LOL
I've owned an 83 supra for the last 17 years, and worked at a dealership for the better part of a decade and test drove thousands of vehicles while working there. My supra handled better than almost any of the new cars and is the reason why I still have her
The new owner of the old Supra reminds me of Joshua from Rich Rebuilds channel, a man of very, very few words. The shift of the Supra to sports car is probably a natural evolution in that a lot of people saw the older models as sports cars so why not make this one actually _be_ one.
Agree with you on the interior after having a sit in one at the local Toyota dealer - it's coffin like in the extreme - to me, maybe even more so than my prior most coffin like interior (that I've experienced anyway) winner, the current gen Camaro. Also, I'm only 5'11" (though I'm 48 so not so flexible these days) - and I still found ingress and egress quite awkward and annoying.
As much as we wish to keep them all, sometimes you gotta let one go from time to time. I get that. Thanks for the honest take on the A90. I agree that you gotta go for a manual transmission model if you want proper driver engagement. My biggest hang up is the BMW motor. Yes, it's a performance oriented machine that is capable. However, the longevity of the motor is brought into question because of BMW's head design. Every 40k miles or so, you have to pull the head and replace the seals that are under the valves, inside the combustion chamber. It's not a 400k motor like the old 2JZ. I get it. I understand why Toyota did what they did to make it financially viable to get a world-wide releasable, modern take on what a Supra is. I also agree that what you have there is a sports car, not a GT car. I own a GTS-T Skyline. I can drive forever in that car in relative comfort (or at least I will once I get the AC repaired). It's got enough "sport" in it to take corners with confidence and put a silly grin on your face. I simply hope that the A90 series cars are able to do just that for those who own them.
Good video. I'm around 6'5" 265lbs. Jared is bigger than that. A Toyota Supra of any year wouldn't be on the top of my list. When I was younger, I would go watch baseball games with a friend that were 60 miles away and we'd travel in his 1984 Supra. A nice used Charger would be a lot more comfortable. Maybe a early-mid 2000's Dodge Ram SRT-10 pick-up, lots of power and lots of room for someone who is Jared's size. ( I have a 2008 GM 1500 4x4 pick up and a 2008 Corvette.)
I remembered seeing the A90 finally show up at a local Toyota dealer. I instantly thought it is some form smaller than the JZA80s, it is also priced close to a showroom new Land Cruiser! I do feel the Supra feel in it, but it isn't as street friendly as any of the other cars with how low it sits. Still makes the right noises under the hood, but, yeah...I get the BMW hate, it's all over in the interior. Would I get one? Nah, probably better to get me an S2000 or build a 2nd gen CR-X and put the new NSX engine in it, along with AWD from Subaru and have a drag and drive-circuit track-street car...
I'm sorry but Toyota should have have use the Lexus LC or LR platform to built the new MK5 supra. Would have kept it all Toyota too with the twin turbo Yamaha tune lexus V6.
Tbh the current engine does pretty well in what fields it's thrown in especially with the amount of power and easy tunablility there is. U can't really get that with really any toyo V6 unless u spend a bunch to do so.
if you don't like the block, ls swap. 21:00 gotta agree with you, newer cars feels like they're babying or making a person lazy with to many "assistive" add'ons
Between the two, I'd take the new Supra. That said, If I were in the market today for that type of car at that kinda money and I'd buy something else. Now, that said, back in the day that MK3 Supra was one of my dream cars and I would have jumped at the opportunity to buy one. The perfect scenario IMO would be a modernized version/vision of the MK3 Supra!
Glad the Turbo R is going to a good home. The MK5 is not my favorite. It’s nice to hear it keeps some of its driving heritage; however, as a fellow bigger guy, I will always lean towards grand tourers
I'd always thought the 4th gen Supra was hideous until very recently. 3rd gen has always been my favorite; first manual I ever drove and probably the only Toyota I've ever really lusted after.
As a big and tall too I see you in that Z4 coupe....😅 I mean Supra and I'm like that's awesome because I love looks and everything about that new Supra. I have a 2002 BMW Z3M roadster that I love and fitting in it is a bitch even after 20 years of ownership and huge investments making the fast Z3M even with a 6 speed SMGii swap, S54 build pushing 400hp NA and tell myself I'm never letting it go but that Supra with a manual could change my mind as hitting my head and the getting in and out is only getting harder.
I really miss my MK3 that I have to sell to afford a family car when I was about to became a dad. Prices have skyrocket since then en well. Sold mine for 40000SEK and now you cant even get a close as nice for 140000SEK.
Thanks for the honest review. I am a Toyota fanboy but definitely not a BMW one. Here this car is around $100k RRP and I don't think it's worth the money. I'd rather get a decent spec Lexus for the same, and better driving experience.
...And now Mazda and Stellantis have Turbo Inline 6 engines again, Mazda put one in the CX-90, and Stellantis is putting theirs into the Jeep Wagoneers/Grand Wagoneers, and likely putting it into the Ram 1500.
The MKV will forever be controversial from purists you wanted a 3jz in it. I grew up in the 90s when not enough people wanted to buy the MKIV which is why Toyota stopped making it due to poor sales. I bought a 2023 A91 6MT and love it. Maybe a tune and getting to 500-550 hp is just enough power for me.
Thanks for this comparison, Jared. 14:04 on the B58, besides higher compression, BMW also went back to individual exhaust ports versus the previous manifold cast in the head. Keep making questionable choices.
To all the commenters bagging on the new supra for having the heart of a bmw: 1) not your car, not your choice and 2) clearly you've never driven a BMW I6 turbo, they're amazing performance engines and sound great.
It's probably a great car, and you can love it, but it's not a real Toyota Supra. Would be like Hyundai made a new car that BMW styled a bit and called it a M3. However good it was, would it really be a M3? Other than that, who cares? Drive and have fun!
Both of your arguments are invalid. Who cares if it's "not our car" what does it matter. It's a BMW. People wanted something else, the didn't deliver. It is what it is.
"Heart" of a BMW? This thing is 99% BMW under the skin and will have the long-term reliability of BMW. It is "not my car" because it is not what I choose. My choice is based on considerable experience with Toyotas and BMWs (that my son keeps buying), and I have driven these. It does not even compare well with my 1994 MKIV (which is tuned to 471 rwhp at low boost).
Jared I just wanna know 1 thing. Which is more fun? I’m not a fan of newer cars. Yes electronic goodies are better but that means you can’t change much.
Jared my huge framed brother. Skinny leg jeans make dudes like us look chicken legged and even more top heavy. Boot cut or stovepipe is the way, they make your legs look longer.
Really good review Jared, I’m a manual guy, but you can’t discount these modern automatics, they’re smooth and change gears very quickly. Are you really 6”7. You don’t look it or were you joking?
You're saying that old cars were are more analog pure distilled essence driving experience, and new cars are not like that, you're not PART of the machine. That is exactly how I feel about it! Is there a posibility for you to review the new Quadrifoglio? Thinking about getting one and really really curious what you think about it.

Glad you addressed the buffeting / pressure noise on modern cars ! I don’t have a Toyota but have experienced it on all modern cars , so much so I have to equalise the pressure by opening all the windows before it becomes acceptable .
I am happy sad excited and tender watching this video. From one Mark 3 Supra enthusiast to another I raise my glass to you Jared
I wish they would have designed a Supra around the Tundra 5.7, I know you said it had to be a inline six,But with that v8 it would have been awesome
Jared is right about a lot of people liking the early 90’s supra. I like this style, but my favorite is the 85-86 Supras…..i just love that body style.
awesome as always .thanks for sharing and taking us along
I love how you did a comparison of the two cars. I sincerely want you to get the new supra of your dreams.
For someone that isnt a journalist or car reviewer, you did good! Maybe we need some more of these from you ;)
Absolutely great honest mechanic and an overall great guy u can tell
This is the only review that is as real as it gets!👍🤙
I had a 1986 MK III. Even it's a 7M but I still loved it. I used to think that it's the nicest looking car in the world.
I remember a guy having the mark3 in high school and wish it would get some love
I love seeing Jared try on these little sports cars... as a similarly proportioned man, this saves me the hassle of ever having to walk into a showroom to know that I won't be comfortable, and I should stick with minivans and SUVs. No mid-life crisis car for me!! #dadwagon4life
I have a R53 mini as my weekender . Totally agree having a clear vision with out having to use cameras is the best
You are 6'7"? wow! and i am very happy you are working on your weight. Everyone needs to work on themselves to make themselves better. Great vids.
Good job Jarred!
Keep it up!
I'm all for the clean-cut "Jared Reviews Cars" look.
Jared, it's hard to let stuff go and can tell that was really hard for you. You can always get one back later.
LOL
love the mk1 supra. My friend had one and I fell in love.
Mk3 is my goal Toyota as i collect 90's Toyotas. At the moment i have Starlet EP91, Tercel EL53 and Celica T18
I've owned an 83 supra for the last 17 years, and worked at a dealership for the better part of a decade and test drove thousands of vehicles while working there. My supra handled better than almost any of the new cars and is the reason why I still have her
One of my Neighbours has new supra in his driveway as of yesterday. Looks and sounds pretty sweet. He also has a 3rd gen (I think) .
The German mark V broke so many hearts…
I’ve got a job coming up soon to the springs and shocks on a MA70. I would have the old school suit for any day
16:16 When ONE Coote Fluffer isn't enough...TWO COOTE FLUFFERS!
Oh boy hope I see you on the road soon in my supra 😊
I still own ma70 86.5 , owned a 89 mk3 , and second generation 85 p-type years ago.
This comments section: people who can’t afford the new supra let alone never driven one bashing it.
its fucking hilarious! "but its not a true supra, herp a derp...." move on people, technology has. (yes I have a mk5 and love it)
I'm sorry but Toyota should have have use the Lexus LC or LR platform to built the new MK5 supra.
Thank you Jared
1:10 holy moly that auto focus is freak out i thought it was my eyes 😅
I had a white 89 turbo mk3 that I loved! It held up to my abuse. They are great cars.
A70 is best Supra
Jared, the Supra guys, loves a Supra. I think everyone saw that coming.
It's BMW, not Supra sorry but I hated I will never think of buying one .
one fact, your amazing guy wishes you all the best
As a big and tall too I see you in that Z4 coupe....😅 I mean Supra and I'm like that's awesome because I love looks and everything about that new Supra. I have a 2002 BMW Z3M roadster that I love and fitting in it is a bitch even after 20 years of ownership and huge investments making the fast Z3M even with a 6 speed SMGii swap, S54 build pushing 400hp NA and tell myself I'm never letting it go but that Supra with a manual could change my mind as hitting my head and the getting in and out is only getting harder.
Best looking sports car right now
Congrats Jared!
I like Nathan. He reminds me of Spicoli from Fast Times At Ridgemont High :)
I really miss my MK3 that I have to sell to afford a family car when I was about to became a dad. Prices have skyrocket since then en well. Sold mine for 40000SEK and now you cant even get a close as nice for 140000SEK.
god, I miss my good old non Targa MA70. Wished I could have kept it longer than ~5 years...
Jared, I’m sorry and I know you’ve heard this a lot but you should’ve kept what you have. That was a beautiful car. I guess it still is.
Mk III is the best Toyota I owned an 87 and 89 Turbo and they are the most comfortable touring sport car that you could buy
Thanks for the honest review. I am a Toyota fanboy but definitely not a BMW one. Here this car is around $100k RRP and I don't think it's worth the money. I'd rather get a decent spec Lexus for the same, and better driving experience.
It's very dependent on the country. A RCF(65-70k) would be atleast 10-20k more than a mk5(50-60k) in the US or maybe higher depending on the country.
...And now Mazda and Stellantis have Turbo Inline 6 engines again, Mazda put one in the CX-90, and Stellantis is putting theirs into the Jeep Wagoneers/Grand Wagoneers, and likely putting it into the Ram 1500.
I like the looks of the mark 5 with the exception of the point in the nose.
I tried taking a drink of twisted tea every time Jarred said Supra, and now I'm in the ER
Jared need to get 500k subs
Great vid. Also congrats on being down 20lbs 🎉
Thanks for this comparison, Jared. 14:04 on the B58, besides higher compression, BMW also went back to individual exhaust ports versus the previous manifold cast in the head. Keep making questionable choices.
good little watch fair all around
To all the commenters bagging on the new supra for having the heart of a bmw: 1) not your car, not your choice and 2) clearly you've never driven a BMW I6 turbo, they're amazing performance engines and sound great.
It's probably a great car, and you can love it, but it's not a real Toyota Supra. Would be like Hyundai made a new car that BMW styled a bit and called it a M3. However good it was, would it really be a M3? Other than that, who cares? Drive and have fun!
Got my eyes on new M240i. The M2 is too much for my 60 years 😂
It's not just a BMW engine the thing basically is a Z4 Toyota just restyled it
Both of your arguments are invalid.
Just shy of 6’7”
I'd take the MK3 any day over an MK5. Also I think most hated award goes to the MK2 celica-supra!
You're saying that old cars were are more analog pure distilled essence driving experience, and new cars are not like that, you're not PART of the machine. That is exactly how I feel about it! Is there a posibility for you to review the new Quadrifoglio? Thinking about getting one and really really curious what you think about it.
I rarely hear anyone talk about the BMW variant. The discussion is always on the Supra variant.
id love to see you dirve a GR86 and see your opinion about how it feels like a car made in the 90s. even though everyone has to let you know its a Subaru
im biased because i miss my '87 supra turbo. i think the MK3 look better.
MKII is best Supra, no fight, it's just facts. Light, balanced wedge shaped excellence.
Toyota should have teamed with Ford Australia and used the Barra inline 6cyl engine.
