HEY! I built that car! I'm so glad someone who truly appreciates it got a hold of it. That was my baby for 12 years, and before that my grandfather owned it since new. Please reach out if you have any questions! I literally know its whole life story. Sorry that clutch went out on ya...you're right, it was an oreilly clutch that I bought new when I did the swap. It was an unfortunate last minute purchase to get the job done and I never upgraded. Glad you got it sorted and hope you keep it a long time! I wanna see more videos of it!!! And I say procharge it. I think you should put a coyote in it! The mounts are plug and play with the 4.6 mounts. Might need a custom oil pan. It can even run on the stock 4.6 ecu if you lock the VVT cams out. Long tube S550 headers fit in the frame rails. Transmission and driveshaft will also work as they sit. Alternator relocation bracket is readily available, as with the ac compressor AND the power steering pump. Could not be any easier in that case. If you want to run VVT, ford makes a plug and play harness with ecu that you just need to send power too a few wires. That will make that thing an absolute ripper. They only weigh a few 100 lbs more than a coyote mustang anyways. It would make some awesome content!

    • @BryanGullickson

Why that 4.6 2v while by no means a powerhouse is insanely reliable and will easily outlive a coyote

    • @WiseGuyzGarage
      @WiseGuyzGarage 3 месяца назад

@@BryanGullickson I don’t know about outliving a coyote. The 4.6 2v definitely had some issues, but they are about the same in terms of reliability. The intakes always leak, early models burn oil through the valve seals, the ac compressors are known to fail, and a few other odds and ends.

I agree about getting out and driving a manual transmission car. While i love my 2019 Taurus Limited and my 2014 MKZ, i really love getting out in my 2003 very basic Ranger 2.3L 5speed. It's a base model, rubber floors, taxicab quality seats, regular cab, short bed, 2wd. Sure it's not fast, but it's fun. And dead reliable. Ive had many stick shifts over the years (from a VW Rabbit diesel to a 91 Mustang LX 5.0) and they were always fun. Ive had 2 Grand Marquis, and they were great roadtrip cars, would have been even better as manuals! I used to autocross... first a 1980 fox body Capri Ghia with the inline six and 4 speed, then the 91 LX 5.0 5spped. I can honestly say it was more fun with the Capri, maybe because i was making payments on the Mustang. I even raced the diesel Rabbit (an absolute hoot!) and the 92 Garnd Marquis as well.

Yes they have their problems, but they've earned it for being (more or less) a century old, and they're easier to fix and find parts for, let alone the wealth of knowledge on how to repair them. A while back i found a screenshot of a Facebook ad for a Grand Marquis, with the PERFECT name...
It was listed as a "Grandma Keith"
    Chef's kiss.
First "upgrade" i would do is an Atoto, or some other more modern Head unit with AA/carplay.
Other than that... It should be fabulous daily...
There was a local mechanic who put 2" spacers on the suspension, and put bigger muddies on his, but... Ti each their own.

Back in high school one guy had a Malibu, the Iraqi Taxi model for those that know. It had a modest 305 with a 4 speed but was a blast. My last manual was my 78 F100 302 4 speed glasspacks exit behind the cab. Again not much power but a load of fun. I hope my next manual is an International 5 ton build I am planning. Great video!

I had close to the same outcome with the clutch in my 79 Pinto California Cruise Wagon with a 2.3 bored .040 and a newer shaved head and a rowdy cam. I accidentally shifted from 4th to 1st at 60 mph and the clutch grabbed for a split second before it disintegrated the 2 week old clutch material. I too had nothing but neutral for gears. At that time I lived at my dad’s and we didn’t have a garage that was useable. I replaced the clutch in the car with the car on ramps and the rear jacked up and on blocks. No trans jack involved. I had the trans out, clutch changed, and trans back in and driving again in 5.5 hours. That was all done in our sand driveway in front of the house.

It’s hard to change up a Crown Vic/Grande marquis and make it unique. Everything I can think of would probably ruin it but would definitely make it questionable. Things you don’t see when it comes to those cars. Big block swap, with a manual transmission. Make it 4 wheel/all wheel drive. I’ve always thought I’d do the opposite and and go smaller. do a 4 cylinder turbo stick shift like a turbo coupe or svo mustang. Or Honda k swap. What ever you choose. It’ll still be fun

The best manual driving experience for the money is either going to be an NA Miata, an early Porsche Boxster, or an S2000.
I am not wrong and this is not up for debate.

My personal choices of builds (if the wife allowed them) would be either an early 1980s Ford LTD (M.I
B Car) or an early 1980s Ford Fairmont ( my first car in 1992 was a 1978 Sedan 200 S-6 auto, and I loved its stock metalic brown paint) Sedan or wagon with a built 351C converted to EFI.

I'd find myself a buildable block and build a couple of more horses into it (sorry, im not really a Ford guy), then top it off with a pro charger or a couple of turbos.
Now, I'd have to upgrade the clutch and transmission, and im pretty sure that the drive shaft and rear end will need a little improvement, but that's just me.

After about 30 years, I had to give up riding motorcycles due to “carpal tunnel”, basically my throttle hand kept going numb and I couldn’t control the throttle. So I started looking for a stick to replace my motorcycle. Not many fun manual cars around I my budget at the time, so I ended up with a 01 Mustang GT convertible with the 5 speed. Basically the same 4.6 engine. Can still row through the gears, feel the sun on me, and feel the wind blowing through my hair. Still miss riding 😢
