Hi guys Payton here!!!! Jared has an absolute heart of gold!! I was so upset after the accident and not even 2 days later I had received a text from him asking if I’d like to come take it off his hand.. never in my life would I have imagined something like this! This is not an act of fate.. not an act of fame.. this is all an act of a true heart! And a true man ❤️!!! I cannot think Jared enough for what he has done for the community!

When removing gaskets I use penetrant to soak the leftover stuff so it puffs up and can be scraped off easier. It's like using a spray bottle of water on wood to raise the grain so you can get a mirrior smooth finish. Seems to work.

The car used to belong to my parents! My brother got in touch with Payton and he asked him a question that only a few people would know the answer to…. A Led Zeppelin cd stuck in the player that belonged to our foreign exchange student. She purchased the car I believe in 93 from a little car lot on Ringgold Road in East Ridge, Tn. It had lifter work done at a ford dealership in North Georgia I think in Fort Oglethorpe. Also had cv axles done at a shop on East Brainerd Rd. It did NOT have that “impulse” lettering on it when she owned it. That was added by someone else after she sold it. It was a fun car to drive

fine rol-loc discs on a pneumatic mini angle grinder is the best tool for cleaning mating surfaces i ever found. you just need a light touch, and a little brake cleaner helps. a couple of irwin squeeze action bar clamps help out installing windows. they will hold it where you want it and with the rubber pads they won't hurt the glass.

RUclips videos have changed my opinion of Harbor Freight. I bought a few things after a friend recommended them because I was only going to use them rarely and couldn’t justify the price of big name tools.
But I’ve purchased a large number of tools in the last few months and I bought a roll around toolbox, my first since I now have a real garage. I thought it was funny that the price depended on the color of the box even though they were the same. The tools won’t care what color it is.
And honestly it’s been fun going to the local Harbor Freight and buying one of every thing that’s on sale. My garage is starting to look like a Harbor Freight store.

When you get that one vehicle that you have thought about for so long, it just feels right. I recently traded some stuff for a 1953 Wiily jeep that needs so much, that it was just kinda not it, because i wanted the military version to restore, but they are expensive, and hard to find with all the original 24 volt m138a1 components intact. Somehow i ended up on a kaiser willys for sale page, and about 2 hour's from me was a 1954 m138a1 military jeep for sale, so i went and looked at it yesterday, and was blown away at how everything was there. These jeeps came with special wiring, and weather sealed spark plug wires, distributor, coil, and several other thing's, so that it can be partially driven under water. The thing was used for driving around in the summer in northern michigan, but nevert put on the street since it had been bought from the government many year's ago. I feel like it was meant for me, and why i got it for a very good price. Many people had called, wanted picture's, but would never just come look at it. The lady had been trying to sell it for awhile, but i guess people figured it was a michigan car with rust. I need to fix a couple small holes in the floor, but it's solid, and they used heavy gauge metal back then, which is why it held up. I plan on painting it back olive drab, because someone painted it a wine color which is awful. I have progressive MS, and it has caused muscle wasting on my entire left side, so my dr. said i needed to be as active as i can to slow down the progression, so this jeep will have to do it. Both my grandpa's were in wwll, and as kid's we drove a 67 mule around the farm, and there was an old clapped out jeep that eventually got sold, but i have wanted one since i was a kid, and i thank G-d for blessing me with this chance to have the jeep i have been looking for, but could never find in my low income range until i had it delivered today, and i plan on getting it running soon. She hasn't run since 2017, but that's part of the fun. Good on you Jared for taking the sting out of Paytons crash. G-d bless.

Speaking of finger dexterity. I had a friend years ago who lost the little finger on his right hand in Viet Nam. He got a 25% disability for it but he viewed it as a blessing in disguise. He could reach into really small places around his motorcycle frame and engine to access parts and hardware.
When I first met him and was introduced and we shook hands that really felt weird. After loosing that finger the surgeon who worked on his hand removed the metacarpus bone from the main part of his hand so he had this really narrow three fingers and thumb hand.
We were both electricians at a power plant.

Be thankful you didn't have to replace the alternator. In 17 years, my wife's car ate 4 alternators. They're at the lowest point of the engine behind all kinds of stuff. While it's technically possible to wiggle it out (and I did it that way twice), the textbook method requires removing the passenger side wheel and half shaft, etc... to get enough space to get to it.

Regarding classic replacement parts😢 On my 78 351M rebuild the new/ rebuilt water pump, fuel pump, carb, HEI distributor all failed. Three after market fuel pumps. Oh yes, radiator as well. As these builds go (64 F100) you may not get on the road for months or more to work the bugs out. Too bad, one year warranty 😢 The machine shop did not replace the machining 1/2" plugs in the heads. To replace the driver's side with the engine in the truck meant I had 2" clearance in which to work or pull the motor out. Still having idle circuit issues. Could be float level or just crap carb, again. It's all fun doing it the first time but the second time not as much!

"God makes them, and they finds each other." You found someone who will love it and care for it and that's great. You're a good guy, Jared, it's one of the reasons I watch your channel. Kudos!

Awesome story and cool to keep young enthusiasts around. Parts for these cars are tough to find - love our project MX-6 but gah it can be frustrating to repair sometimes.

Experienced the same frustration with a big name parts retailer. 3 control arms all came with a torn ball joint bushing. Had to pay for shipping each time. I was not happy

Lmao welcome to a turbo version of my first car (red LX same year). It looks good, I love this series well done. That shifter slop... I could've used that 20 years ago! The car effectively was killed when downshifting, it liked trying to slip into first instead of third. Twas the death of my transmission, engine was still great @ 300k even after 1st gear for a millisecond @ 80 mph. I figured out shift fork broke in 1st so I was either in first or neutral till the end. I miss "Blinky" as both headlights wouldn't always pop up, aside from that and the lack of cup holders it was great. It was faster than you'd expect, I was well above 120 where the speedometer markings end. Based on the travel of the spedo after 120 I conservatively estimate 145, it pointed straight down and stopped as I could still feel slight acceleration! I was racing an eclipse on the expressway and won by a good amount, lost when "downshifting" for the exit I almost missed. I was dropping it off at a shop that was going to diagnose the headlight issue for $50... trans and such would've been $2k, that's like 5k now! I was so sad, still am.
Try replacing the alternator, service manual says you have to drop the transmission. 18 year old me just took off the tie rod and did some maneuvering to get the alternator out/in, 6 hours later.

I'm thrilled with your explanation of ozone. Most people don't get it. But you did miss that those single oxygen atoms bind to other O2 molecules to create 03.

Jared ... They have these little air bags with hand pumps like for a blood pressure machine. Slide it between the metal door skin and the glass. Give the pump a few squeezes and when the bag smells it holds the glass safely between the outer window felt (if any is left) and the air bag. Great for doing regulator work

Ozone is actually O3, which is an unstable form of oxygen. It desperately wants to shed one and get back to O2. This lone oxygen atom readily bonds to organic compounds, which oxidizes them, making them less stinky. So you had the concept right, but the molecular chemistry backwards. I've used ozone generators like that on lots of stinky and moldy auction cars, and it works great. Sometimes needs a second treatment tho...
