    I've got a Benchmade Lerch in S30V. Never used, carried or sharpened. The sandblasted scales still managed to get snail trails everywhere! Ti slabs with assisted opening. If you're interested, answer this comment. I'm looking for a Minitherium in Damasteel and could shed this eagerly! 👍 😃

    Whoa ! I did t even know that carbon fiber handle with the red pivot even existed ! Very nice . I love that blade style on a microtech doc and now spiderco has one similar . See how in the dark I am ? I could use some friends in the knife community for good advice . Thanks so much anyone who can help 😊

    Crucible particle metallurgy CPM . So it makes the elements all line up and bond without the use of alloys ? That sounds amazing .

      I have a 5 year old Blur, slight lateral blade play and quite a bit of wear but still quickly takes an edge like nobody's business. Even with a bunch of Spydies, Benchmade, Cold Steel, Bucks etc my Kershaw is still my daily driver.

    Just got a benchmade in that steel.
    Wow, sharpest blade of my collection so far. Better than my 440c, 154 cm, titanium, 9Cr19MoV, D2, 14C28N.
    It's not that I think other steels don't work. But the fine grain makes the edge able to cut through toilet paper 😅

    • @thaknobodi
      @thaknobodi 3 года назад

      Blade steel does not determine sharpness. The sharpening does. In my experience and most peoples experience is that fine grained stainless steels like BD1Nand 14C28N or carbon steels are easier to get hair shaving sharp than carbide rich steels that lose shaving sharp quickly but hold a toothy edge long past basic steel have gone dull.

    • @skylerbond56

    Do you have any S90V steel knives? If not, Heinnie has a very good priced Manly Wasp for around £55 and it is a UK legal knife with S90V. Yes you can read the price again. I would love to see a review on it from you.

    Have you tried the Orion solaris yet ? I wish I had told them to put the raindrop scales on before shipping tbh . I like it a lot . I also like the titanium kubeys and WE 600 series knives and a few two suns 😂and microtech s is about it . Sometimes I ll like to flip a 9 oz eafengrow 902:titanium . It’s just awesome 👏

    I bought a used car once and found this knife on the center console. I looked at it and thought "This is a really good knife!". carried it on my car for about 2 years and only did about 2 or 3 odd jobs with it. ended up selling the car a few months back and made sure to take the knife with me. then I started looking for it online to see how much it sells for and HOLY CRAP didn't think a pocket knife could cost almost 200 dollars. ended up trying to figure out why this was so and it turns out its this steel (CPM-S30V) that the blade is made from and that's what makes it so darn expensive. needless to say I'll be taking better care of it from now on

    I sharpened a zt 0456 with the 204P and it got real real sharp with a mirror edge but I’m not sure of these mirror edges will hold up . I was told to stay between 600-800 . Is there certain steels that do better with certain finishes on the edge ? Getting technical lately .

    • @Sup3rSaiy3n
      @Sup3rSaiy3n  9 лет назад +1

      Nolan Carpenter Thanks Nolan. Nice to hear from you again. I think CTS-XHP posses the corrosion resistance of 440C but the hardness (64 HRC) of D2 tool steel. It's a stainless steel version of D2. CTS-XHP slightly outperforms S30V on edge retention. Smoke eater has a a great video here: ruclips.net/video/SdoNBtc6tmI/видео.html Hope that helps.

    I know this is a old video, but I just ordered a Spyderco Military in S30V. My question is do I need to use a diamond stone, & cermaic for sharpening or will I be able to still reasonably use my Japanese water stones?

    • @posterestantejames
      @posterestantejames 3 года назад

      you can use whatever you like. With traditional Japanese water stones, you’ll wear them down faster, but you will get an edge on them. Diamond stones work much faster. I use both.

    Hello, I veso you have experience with both the N690Co steel than with M390, it is much the difference of the wire seal between these two steels? and the ease of re-sharpening? Have you noticed differences in practical application between N690Co and M390? Which do you recommend for a knife survival / bushcraft compact in size (10/12 cm blade)? Thanks Michele.

    • @doctoruttley
      @doctoruttley 4 года назад

      N690Co is more corrosion resistant. M390 is tougher and less brittle.

    Can you talk about cpm s110v and vg 10 please ? Don’t have a clue how to go about sharpening and maintaining s110v

    • @Sup3rSaiy3n
      @Sup3rSaiy3n  6 лет назад

      zac white I don’t have any s110v unfortunately but I would guess it’s as difficult as s30v to sharpen but not as easy as vg10.

    • @doctoruttley
      @doctoruttley 4 года назад

      S110V is a much harder steel with larger carbides. It tends to keep an edge much longer as it cuts very well when the microbevel gets toothy.

    Nice vid, and well explained. I wonder how long it will be before a new set of wonder steels will arrive ( the speed things move at nowadays, not long probably ) ? That's one of the exciting things about knives - they continually improve. Of course, then there'll be 14 year old "experts" saying " S30V ? I couldn't possibly carry a knife made with that crappy old steel ! " lol.

    • @Sup3rSaiy3n
      @Sup3rSaiy3n  9 лет назад

      zednotzee7 Haha yeah I agree. I guess the knife industry is doing well. As technology improves it should improve all aspects of knife making from design to elements used and so on. I think it's similar to motorbikes. Sales are up by 12% from last year which is driving (pardon the pun) technology behind them. I just wished they would speed up their tech a little to catch up with cars before it's too late.

    Nice video. Whenever I shop for a real nice knife that I’m going to put through it’s paces I never and never will purchase a knife that has a giant round hole in the blade. Why jeopardize the strength of a blade in such a critical part of the blade by putting a hole in it. Spyderco is made for collection or opening mail which I can just open with my hands. Definitely not hard use.

    • @Sup3rSaiy3n
      @Sup3rSaiy3n  4 года назад

      Zach Turner Og I thought you would have drawn the obvious conclusion that these folding knives not meant for ‘hard use’ whatever that means to you. They are more than cable for most if not all ‘cutting’ tasks. They have locks but SHOULD NOT be used like a fixed blade. Such as hitting the spine with a log to split a log, prying open a locked door, using as a climbing assist, splitting pallets or cutting open a car. Therefore the spydie-hole opening feature, which has been present on their knives since the 80s, is appropriately utilised on all of their folding knives.
      If you are using one of these knives where the blade breaks you have been using it wrong.

    • @zachturner8745
      @zachturner8745 4 года назад

      Sup3rSaiy3n a hole is appropriate? How so? Yes a hard use knife for me is a fixed blade. Esee generally and I never beat on a knife. I use tomahawks for the use they were designed for. The hole in the blade does three things. Weaken the blade, makes it wider in the pocket when folded(unnecessary space taking), and is as useless as a Nike check mark. It’s there trademark and is a terrible idea. The mail openers can keep at it but the knife experts don’t have one or have rid thereselves of it.

  • @Sanctity2112
    @Sanctity2112 6 лет назад +1

    Spyderco in my opinion is overpriced. You're just paying for the brand and buying into the hype. I will say that out of the box they're razor sharp, but this can be achieved with any blade. I have a Native and i do love it, but i also have a Gerber that is S30V that is identical in sharpness (once i sharpened it) and a fraction of the price. And i do know Gerber is another bandwagon buy, but buying a S30V blade for $30.00 instead of $150.00 is going to win me over. Same statement goes for Benchmade Knives, amazing knives. But you're breaking the bank for their name.

    • @doctoruttley
      @doctoruttley 4 года назад

      With Spyderco you are paying for steel, design, quality control, and consistent heat treat. Not to be underestimated.
