Bodycam: Teen Beaten in School Bathroom Brawl Died The Next Day

- Bodycam and security footage show the moments surrounding a physical altercation in an Oklahoma high school bathroom involving a teen who died one day later. Owasso authorities said Nex Benedict got in a spat with three other students who allegedly bullied the 16-year-old, resulting in Nex’s retaliation. Nex later spoke with police in the hospital on February 7 before passing away the next day. Law&Crime’s Sierra Gillespie breaks down the shocking story.

The fact the school wanted to push it off for a few days and not call law enforcement IS AWFUL.

Did they not do a head scan "MRI or CT" at the hospital to rule out a brain injury if she had hit her head during the fight? If they did not and sent her home without checking and if she had a undiagnosed brain bleed that could be a lawsuit right there.
You mean when some girl bashed her in the head?
Oh stfu, I bet you scream out "LAWSUIT" every time someone gets their snowflake feelings hurt 🤣🖕

Apparently they did do cat scan on her head.

Because those girls did a public service
The way these administrators completely avoid responsibility these days absolutely floors me… There are no safe schools for kids anymore.
This was a premeditated fight, where a bathroom was chosen to hide from adult supervision, broken up by a faculty member in 19 seconds. The student was immediately treated afterward by trained medical staff. Nex's death is a tragedy, but not the result of trauma from a physical altercation. Parenting 2024 in America is garbage. Hold parents accountable first. The schools don't raise my children. I do.

Posturing? Agonal breathing? Eyes rolling back? Headache? Head trauma the previous day? I’m a retired nurse but this sounds very much related to head trauma. This poor mother lost her baby. Another autopsy needs to be performed.

Per the state medical examiner “16-year-old Nex Benedict’s probable cause of death as combined toxicity from an antihistamine and an antidepressant.” It had nothing to do with the fight.

This officer handled this exactly the right way ; with empathy, and explanation of the legal facts.
Made me cringe on the 911 call when she said Officer Thompson was there earlier and talked to her.
He did in awful job. Why are people praising him? His legal advice was absolutely terrible, manipulative, and straight up BS. DONT EVER, EVERtake legal advice from a police officer. Take it from a lawyer. He shouldn't even be offering legal advice, he should just be there for an interview. His percussion for them to not press charges/retaliate in any way was disgusting. Him saying the school didn't contact the police because they are 'well, human' made my blood boil.
@JaxxMarrs He is a "law" enforcement officer, so he was qualified to explain the legal implications of what he has been trained to know, sees all the time, and paid to enforce. He had already stated that the school was required to contact the police, so his calling them "human" was not excusing them.

Its a sick situation and it starts at home with the parents. Obviously the parents are anti LBGTQ.
The people to blame are the parents. The parents are trump supporter "Christians" that hate anything that is even slightly different than they are. They teach this to their kids. Yall, I'm from Tulsa Oklahoma, and a girl I knew who went to Owasso was acquainted with her. Apparently Nex lied about how the attack went and who threw the first punch. When Law enforcement found out she lied, she overdosed on drugs and ended her own life to avoid the consequences. I'm not saying at all that she deserved to die, I am saying that you cannot believe everything you hear until all the evidence is brought to the surface.
Tiktokers immediately cried that this was an attack on another person for them being a "non binary individual", when in reality the facts were left out. So no, it was not a "hate crime", it was a deliberate act to avoid the consequences. RIP Nex, and I hope her family recovers from the loss of a child.
Did Nex really identify as non-binary? In the interview Nex's mother refers to Nex as "she" and "my daughter", Nex doesn't bother to correct the mom on pronouns. We've only heard from schoolmates that Nex was non-binary.

Yup. There's definitely something more behind this that the media is going to spin they already are trying to blame @Libs of TikTok for her death 🙄 but even the 911 call is really fishy.
The mother almost seems like she knows why her daughter is having convulsions and seizures. She's not frantic she's not panicking. It's as if she's having a stern talk with someone not trying to figure out why her daughter is dying.
That's what stands out to you as sick about this situation?
Of course people like you would weaponize this.
It is sick that they died because of being non binary and not even the parents respecting their child enough to accept their choice of pronouns. Love is complex and the parents probably did their best.
The reporter states, " an autopsy shows she did not die from trauma." This sounds like the medical examiner found she didn't die from the fight injuries. Im curious to see the toxicology report. I am hoping she didn't take meds to dull the metal pain she was feeling from being bullied and attacked.
I heard it in a different channel that she wasn't bullied that it was her that started the fight

So... wouldn't be surprised if she was on something
Give me a break! She was just as much a bully to the other girls! What do you call pouring water on someone to start a fight?
The call to 911 dispatch did not describe any symptoms of someone overdosing on pain meds. She also most likely would have been completely fine if that were the case, considering her mom found her while she was still breathing they would have had time to prevent an opiate overdose.
Notice the mother says “her”.
I mean she ain't wrong.
Here is a fact- if the mom and the school would have told her daughter the truth, instead of going along with the gender games, she would most likely still be alive, because no one would have teased her about her gender in the first place.

Doesn’t look like there was ANY indication of a head injury. The autopsy should provide answers, whether or not their are publicized will be telling
I don’t think you know how internal head injuries work
@@OoOMonkeyCoFreakOoO i have years of working with acute head injuries. Would be very surprised if the death was from any sort of head injury related to the assault. It doesn't just take a simple blow to the head to kill you, there would be people dying left and right in the UFC/boxing/etc. if that were the case. Most people with severe or life threatening head injuries will have a bad HA or blurred vision or loss of consciousness. Is it impossible that the death was a head injury from the assault, no.
nbc later stated that there was no life threatening injures according to the coroner.. which leads me to think this was a self dispatched s*icude after she was told that she would be facing assault charges too for throwing water on them... It wouldn't be out of the ordinary because of her mental health situation. In the recording of the 911 call made by her mom when they got home she explained to the operator that her daughter was having trouble breathing and weird eye movements which would explain a overdose of medication not a seizure from head trauma.
@@youmang You’re right about the ufc and stuff but that’s not what causes death most of the time. It’s the hit your head takes on the ground. You are comparing a rock hard bathroom floor to the ufc/boxing mat. That’s how people die, it’s the hit of the head on the ground.

@@Tazazak the police said it wasn't trauma, based off of the ME's findings in the autopsy. They still haven't released the full autopsy. Just because they didn't die from trauma doesn't mean they didn't die as a result of the fight, it just means they didn't die directly after receiving trauma (think car crash). It could still come out that they died from hemorrhaging in the brain as a result of a brain injury or something similar they received during the fight which wouldn't meet the requirements to be ruled as death from trauma technically.
