Hi, I taught myself to crochet watching RUclips during covid.
I suggest you start with a 5mm hook and a 4 weight yarn, such as RedHeart Super Saver and grab 100% cotton. Search for beginners Washcloths or Dishcloths and watch the video then replay and crochet along. You can slow the play back speed in your settings. Also some have the written instructions which helps too. Washcloths are an easy way to get the hang of it and learning basic stitches on a small scale.

Hello! It looks like there is a pattern for it on Etsy called Granny Square Hat with Cat Ears by crochetbyjazzy. It looks like she may be the original designer of this hat construction. Its super cute! I hope this helps!
