    Absolutely! You need to make recovery your main focus and refuse reaction to thoughts 24/7. It’s not a compulsion, it’s the only way out of OCD. The alternative is to carry on listening to and taking seriously the thoughts and that will keep OCD going indefinitely. You need to do the work in order to get better. Refuse reaction no matter what.

      @@guitarsonanarrowboat6567 you'll get worse before you get better. Because when you start to acknowledge and dismiss the thoughts your brain will "panic" and will send you more and more thoughts. Because it thinks that you are in danger but ignoring it. But if you don't give in it will learn that actually nothing bad happens and in this way you "reprogram" your brain

    this thought keeps me from being me

      @gabrieldiaz7236 5 месяцев назад +1

      Except the possibility you won't be the same. Then be prepared for the anxiety,doubt, guilt whatever comes with it, and let it be there, the emotions and the thought. Anything you do to try to feel better from that experience is making it a problem. Your response. It's a scary thought only because of the whole experience. Once you habituate to it in time , you'll have success. Sucks I know.

    • @sheriberrie
      @sheriberrie Год назад +1

      Same ! The thoughts of false memory mix with Real Event OCD and the anxiety is at its peak. I completely understand you. What I’ve been doing is that I say ‘Okay this thought is ocd, ocd is telling me that I hurt someone like 3 years ago and now I have to go online and check for them but u know what brain? (And this is the ERP) well brain that was probably true and you know what, it’s not beneficial for me to think about that anymore so bye bye’ and then u leave it and move on with your day. At first it’s very tough it feels like ur being dragged to do more compulsions but I promise in a week if u do that you will feel so much better.

      @@zovi3363 maybe you have Bernarda doing erp for too short you need to do it at every moment and every thought ! After weeks it will go away. But it takes time. If you’re also doing erp whilst carrying on with the fear and compulsions it won’t be working. You need to try as hard as possible to just do Erp and leave the thoughts behind so they don’t scare you.

      Yes… I really hope Ali can address that. I am not against her view on recovery (I 10000% agree with hers) but it does seem that she sees recovery too simplistically and I feel like a loser cuz maybe my ocd is the worst :(

    • @ocdhelp
      @ocdhelp  2 года назад +3

      How about this, you track and reduce each day for a month and see how you do at the end of the month. You should see a massive reduction in rumination/ compulsions but you have to reduce every day

    • @ocdhelp
      @ocdhelp  2 года назад +14

      In terms if compulsively doing recovery all day long, doing recovery is disregarding and moving on with the day despite what ocd is telling you. So yes, inspite of ocd you need to go on with the day as if you don’t hear it. That’s not compulsive, that’s choosing to live life.

    • @SakisTotsikas

      At pure o thoughts come etherway you bring them or not. Do not take the thoughts seriously. Do not afraid the thoughts. They are like Pennywise the clown, they feed from your fear. Remember they are a lie and they are not you. Εxpose yourself to stressful activities that your thoughts normally prevent you from doing. As much as you can each time. After some time they don't have the same influence on you. Be patient when sometimes things gets more tough. Again, DO NOT TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY. Live your life as much as you can to the fullest. Learn to see OCD more like a little inconvenience in life rather as a serious disorder. Take meds if necessary.
