Thanks for this video. There is a way to open the EPB and put it in service mode manually and I really didnt want to do that. I just realized my bidirectional scanner is capable of doing this the way you did to retract the piston!!
Thank you for watching and commenting 😀
Tie that caliper up with a heavy wire tie, that's what I do, good video, thanks.
I have big S hooks when convenient, hey Thank Youbfor watching and commenting
The Vessel impact tool does not come with the torx bit. Where do you get torx bits that fit into the impact tool?
amzn.to/4blVOCO this is the set I have and I use a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter
Idk that I can justify the 300 bucks for a scanner. I used a windback tool and turned the motor back a few turns and voila. Though next time I think I will just take the two screws out to remove the motor and walk it back by hand so I don't risk messing with the boot.
Manual is cool, however I had a caliper motor freak out and lock up. I had to use the scanner to re calibrate it. Basically engage and then disengage a few times. Doing it Manual somehow confused the control module. Again it can be done manually, but if it locks up, only a scanner can reset it properly.
i have a question - i have the same scanner, when i retract the electronic parking brakes, the passengers side retracts much farther then the drivers side..so when i try to turn the caliper piston in, can't turn it inward far enough to fit over the new brake pads.. would this be caused by a faulty EPB actuator??
Yes and no... disconnect the caliper manually and wind it back. Make sure they are both symmetrical, re hook up. Put the new pads on, then electronically retract and see if they are the same distances. If not, I would say it is bad... but sometimes they just need to manually be winded down to they can recalibrate.
@@GarageMahalLifeMake sure that there is less than half of the brake fluid in the brake reservoir, before retracting with a scan tool or manually pushing the piston back.. This is known to cause problems with the piston not fully retracting into the caliper. Can also screw up the module, which is expensive to replace. ruclips.net/video/Wkov7Hxn88I/видео.html&ab_channel=Snap-onDiagnostics
Why do you have to use a program to disable the parking brake when you could just not have it armed. Just did mine last weekend no programmer.
You probably jammed the parking motor... it will no engage now, it will sound like it is engaging, but it will not, oh well. Be safe out there.
@@GarageMahalLife removed the EPB then using a 7mm hex by hand use clock wise rotation until bottom out. Reinstall system works fine. Tested out the parking brake on a hill and it holds just like it did before hand.
So before seeing this video that’s what I did the manual way now my service ESC LIGHT is on any suggestions
@@davidwedge1313 did you bottom out the ebs assembly on both sides before reinstalling?
I know your light is already on what I did was is unplugged the caliper removed it from it's spot opened the brake fluid reservoir which I don't think I need to do anyway I very slowly backed the calipers in with channel locks I was very careful with the rubber boots put everything back together and works perfectly
Is this the same for a 2018 Traverse
Yes
What is the make and model of your scan tool?
The link and model are in the description, but here is the link too... a.co/d/47bUvGt
What if you don't have a scanner?
Here is my work around video if you don't have a scanner ruclips.net/video/SO8O1v-FQ2o/видео.htmlsi=hNLoc5LhaqMX7hmS
Just buy a scan tool, it is cheaper than one monthly car payment. And its cost will be recovered on the first brake job you DIY.
Just put it in neutral with the key on to turn off the park brake, swing and a miss bud lol
Swing, batter, batter, batter, swing batter...
@@GarageMahalLife Everything else was spot on, thanks.
when you say "with the key on" is that with or without the car running?
@@USArmy91222 did it with the engine off but either way would work.
@@user-fh6vv3mp5q how about when you need to extend the piston at the end of the brake job, any issues?
