I so need an 'urm/ur' count on this vlog 😂
I counted 29 🤪 It’s a Wigan thing G 🤣
Like Ur conditioning.
@@SiRhodesDriverTraining thanks! 😂
It doesn't matter how many there are. Likewise, I love the way you say some words, especially train, "buszies". Then my favourite phrase, "Oh my days!", which I now find I am using more. It is part of you and where you come from. It does not detract from the quality and entertainment you put into the vlogs. Just keep being you, Ray
@@citled Totally agree. I love your accent. Reminds me of the many great people I've known from your part of the country.
"A Poo at Crewe" you are so funny 😀 Seeing the Power Station cooling towers on you journey to Newark Castle, reminded me we used to call them, "Yoghurt Pots". Before you were born, Ski Youghurt used to be in pots with very similar sloping shape to cooling towers. Another place on my "bucket list" and it is not that far from me here in Hitchin. A nice simple RANDOM Railway Station to a lovely place. You have been lucky so far. Another 8 satisfying minutes of me smiling added to my life. Great vlog G, keep em comming, Ray xx
Haha any time i see cooling towers i think of Rugeley 😂
Ski yoghurt pots! Beloved by primary school teachers, for filling with water when all the watercolour paints came out for an art session - the wide base reduced the risk of tipping over and making a mess.
@@GLovesTrainsand the good folks of Rugeley 😊often think 🤔 of you. x
Brilliant video G, I see the random station generator has brought you into the territory of the EMR network so technically into my territory lol. I've still not been to Newark Castle station yet, only been through it on a 156 (back when EMR had them) all the way up to Lincoln Central where the service from Leicester was terminating at the time. I will have to explore Newark sometime, only been through it in the car. Also I see there was one clip of 170 505, that's CyberTrade's brother Ian's favourite turbostar lol.
Haha nice one!
Intriguing why the train has LNWR green moquette ... as far as I know, LNWR have never operated any Turbostars! I thought all the West Midlands units had been in orange ... so were they orange on the outside and green on the inside? 🤔
Technically LNWR only operates the 350's and 319s as they run the London lines, until the 350s were refurbished had the old LM green seats (or the 350/1's silverlink blue interior). West Midland Trains run the local birmingham lines which these 170s used to run. And the green interior was always London Midland interior and these units never did get the refurbishment (other than the outside). Interesting fact the handles and luggage racks on the 170s the light green sections are from the central train days.
I am surprised you did not end up in Nuneaton
I was going to say nuneaton
If Nafferton came up would you still have gone? Its actually a really nice village in East Yorkshire!
Do D or M
The Victorian engineers very cleverly made Crewe the most central point on the UK rail network. This was so as many people as possible could go there and have a poo.
😂😂
Trains used to run from Matlock instead of Crewe all the way to Newark Castle. I don't know when they changed that. The number of trains through this station is limited by the nearby flat crossing with the ECML. It was recently renewed. It would be very expensive/complicated to build a dive under/flyover due to the adjacent river Trent and A46.
I’m from derby and I’m a regular commuter to Manchester Piccadilly but in order to save money I take the west coast mainline at just £40 a pop and it means no Sheffield changes instead just a simple change at Stoke and the comfort of Avanti West Coast. Im used to using that train and there’s only 1 on that line
Great Vlog G, Never been to that Station but have been to other station on the East Coast Main Line.
Thanks Cyber!
If you don't fancy a pooh at Crewe, you could always pop along to Diss, for a .........
I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!!! YASSSS
Newark castle station looks like a lovely station & the castle & Park looks amazing & im liking the EMR 170 turbostars which ive seen out & about at a few places like at Crewe & Kidsgrove but never ridden one yet brilliant vlog
My mother was born in Newark I spent a lot of my childhood in the town visit the castle amazing good video as usual
170575??????? You mean 170515 G i really like these random station visits ❤❤
Haha yes I meant that 😂
OMG! What a neat little route! Nice Castle. And Of Course: Got to Love an awesome Purple train! Purple trains are so cool and this EMR's dark purple is such a neat color!
That's a bit weird seeing a London Midland interior on an EMR train (I suspect that these 170s were made redundant by 196s on WMR). I reckon that, if I ever go to England myself, I'll have a go at this Random Station-type journey as well; looks like an interesting concept.
Looks like you had fun. I miss them 170s on the Salop line.
I’m glad you managed to travel the full length of the Crewe to Newark Castle line I see you reserved at my local Derby Railway Station the views of Attenborough Nature Reserve heading towards Nottingham are very picturesque indeed Newark Castle Ida quaint station too and the castle and the gardens are definitely worth a visit I’ve been there a few times until your next Vlog take care and stay safe
Hope you're well Simon!
@@GLovesTrains yes I’m keeping well G thank you for asking I hope your keeping well too? take care and stay safe
Another fantastic random trip G a very relaxing ride for u for a change no hopping on and off every few minutes, nice place Newark Castle and river trent great Vblog thank u 👍🙂
The cafe at Newark Castle degraded to functions only in 2020, and then closed. Upon property inspection for a bakery to move in, live rats were found. The building since remained empty. There is a really small travel centre on Platform 1, which doesnt bring much back in terms of revenue. Additionally, the travel centre isnt open on Sundays.
Great vlog, G! I remember your EMR Class 158 video when you did part of that route in the opposite direction - and the train then was on the warm side too. That park at the end was really nice as well!
Thanks! Might have been nicer earlier in the day 😂
👍Great channel
Great vlog G. I’ve ridden on the EMR service that goes from Crewe to Newark Castle as far as Nottingham but not too Newark. The castle does look pretty! I enjoyed watching as always.
The castle is lovely! Thanks Sam
Fantastic film G, I enjoyed it. Never been to Newark Castie but Newark Northgate looms large in my life. It was the station I went to begin my RAF career, basic training at RAF Swinderby. Before you were born. Loved the video.
Wow you went to Newark, a town like 30 mins drive away from where I live. Also you did the squishy thing with a huge crowd on the platform.🤣🤣
Also I was about to like this video but it already has 6666 likes so it didin't feel right. Sorry!
That comment about the 170 only being two-car and sometimes being busy sounds familiar to anyone who's travelled the line between Inverness and Aberdeen. You stand on the platform of my local station, it's full of people waiting, and round the bend comes a two-car 158. Standing room only and groans all round! Those lampposts with random words on them are curious things!
Until recently, the Crewe to Derby/Nottingham/Newark service was usually run by a single-car class 153, so having a 2-car class 170 must be unimaginable luxury for regular passengers on the line!
I've travelled on the Kidsgrove to Crewe bit on that service. Filmed 170512 at Kidsgrove recently.
Hi from Long Eaton (Strangely for a small station, thanks to Erewash Borough Council, you can drop the kids off here at the car park next door!), next stop after Derby.
Ahh yes, one of the many Turbostars EMR got from their sister firm West Midlands Trains (They also had a number from both TfW and Southern), which is ironic looking at the Central / Midland Main Line days, as that's when Turbostar's was first introduced on the Sheffield / Derby and Nottingham to St Pancras route.
Back in the days of EMT / Central, this was the Crewe - Nottingham route, with this Newark run not long back being introduced.
Have done both Newark stations before, using the east coast down to Kings Cross from Long Eaton.
Imagine getting from Crewe to Norwich or Newhaven (near Brighton). But lucky you managed to find a random journey with 0 changes.
Umm...glad to see you had a good day out. Ur...never been there myself so thanks for the post(I know! months behind everyone, as usual.)All the best. Cheers!
Great video as always, shame you had the camera pointing at Attenborough Nature Reserve otherwise you might have caught my bungalow :) I use this service quite often and can confirm it can get busy, also prone to cancellations. Recently the 17.10 from Crewe was cancelled and that's where the two hour gap kicks in, I was eventually allowed to travel via Tamworth (my ticket was routed via Stoke). Keep the random stations coming.
Did you walk to Crewe from The Wigan then G???
Absolutely enjoying these random station vlogs
Newark castle looks spectacular, the perfect place to sunbathe in your jumper 😂
Haha sure is the place!
Or you could have done both Newark Castle and Newark North Gate as both stations are quite near to each other via walking distance. But I have to say that Newark itself is very nice and very medieval like. I personally haven’t been to Newark before but the castle itself is very nice and yes there’s lots of things to do whilst at Newark. Very nice town.
Great video as always. It's a shame you didn't get to go to Nidre as you could have visited Sesame Street
Really enjoying these random station videos! Gotta say the Turbostar's seem really common across the UK!
Yeah riding them more and more these days 😂
They're the most common _post-privatisation_ diesel trains (and their Electrostar counterparts are the most common post-priv electrics), although the 158/159s are slightly more numerous, and if you group all the Sprinters together then they would win.
They were originally bought for long-distance regional services predominantly on Central, Scotrail, Anglia and Midland Mainline ... but over time, some of the routes they were used for have upgraded to newer, bigger and/or faster trains and the Turbostars have been cascaded to other provincial services such as this one, which has led to them being spread more widely across the country ... later batches including the class 171 and 172 variants have often been aimed more at local services.
What a beautiful castle - I’d never even heard of it -to my shame!
Always good to see a turbo star - we have these down south on the non electrified lines! :)
The other passengers waiting on the platform must be wondering who that weird girl is who keeps shouting "Squishy babies" all the time, but you have to think "fuck it, lets do it anyway"
Carry on with this format, brilliant 👍👍✅✅
Crewe Station. Isn’t that a U2 song?
Thanks for the video G,loved the Castle looks well worth a visit. The way you talk is awesome I'm from down south. Loved the colour of the EMR trains!!😎💚🇬🇧
Haha glad you think so!
HELL YES THIS IS PERFECTION
Corrour station would make an amazing video, I think you can sleep in the now disused signal box at the station too.
Station cafe/restaurant also available.
Yeah think there is a bnb there
Thanks for yet another enjoyable video. Really enjoyed this.
Seriously my only goal in life now is to have a poo at crewe.
😂😂 still need do it myself lol
The other station is Newark North Gate.
Excellent G
I trust you know the well-known anagram of Newark...
When you do finally have a poo at Crewe I'm expecting a full video on it.
I didn't but I just figured it out 😂
@@GLovesTrains W and Anchor comes to mind :D
Nice video! In regards to the rolloing stock I went Crewe to Nottingham and back in June and there I got a 158 and back I got a 170 so I think it's 50/50 with 158s are 170s!
Great stuff G. It's a route on my to do list ever since seeing the EMR services depart from Crewe.
Glad to see it wasn't too busy.
Last EMR service I did was Norwich to Liverpool. 5+ hours on a 158.
Looking at fares, the best fare I found is to split ticket.
Crewe to NCT (Newark Castle) is £43.50 o/p (£28.70 inc railcard disc).
Split ticket it's £25.30 (£16.65 inc railcard)
Crewe-Derby £13.80 (£9.10)
Derby-NCT £11.50 (£7.55 )
I used to live in Nafferton - nice quiet village station on line from Hull to Scarborough.
Impressive castle there in Newark. Another possible source of inspiration for a future holiday for me in the UK
Awesome video G, I was wondering if you were selecting a Random Station & the name that came up was a racial slur of a word you Brits use. Has that ever happened to you or Lucy before?
Nafferton East Yorkshire. a very quiet station the nearest shop is about a mile away. Lived there for 6 years.
Ah, the well known anagram.
Did King John die there?
should have seen this one coming G doing yet another random station video with a random G that likes to G-about to odd stations
The castle is gorgeous!!! What a cool journey! 😎
Brilliant video G ,,, love your energy
Trains Station 🚉
You can't have a poo at my local train station ( Steeton & Silsden) in West youkshire 😢😭
Oh no!
Pity you didn't walk or ride a bit further up the track as you would have come to the only place in the UK network where one line crosses through another, the East Coast Main Line.
Great vlog @glovestrains
