I had a 10.5" pistol setup in .223, and dumped it fast: 1.) the muzzle flash & blast is obnoxious beyond measure (even more-so in confined spaces); 2.) the .22 cal round sheds too much velocity/energy in the ultra-short barrels. I went with a 10" Aero Precision .300 AAC BLK, a superior choice all the way around. 110 gr. frangible, supersonics are ideal for home defense. The gun shoots like a US 30 Carbine on steroids.
I keep one very similar to this right next to my bed and it goes with me whenever I travel by vehicle. Glad to hear some confirmation on my reasoning in the build. Good stuff. Thanks, Choch!

Awesome video. I love the pistol setup. The Shockwave is my favorite arm brace due to weight and rigidity. I use the Surefire comp, with the Warden when needed. Basically 3 in 1. Comp, blast diverted, and then suppressor when needed. Aimpoint ML3, PRO, and CO have been on mine. For now the CO has stayed, but looking into a Holosun like yours, for a more compact package. So thank you for your recommendations. I treat your info with respect. For those who have layed their lives down on the line for this country, and are willing to share what works in a real world scenario with the public, is a highly prized portion of information. And you sir, Coch, presented a good explanation of the purpose in why you chose your components. I love the pro but it is a little heavy for a pistol build. Have you looked into the Aimpoint T2/H2? After buying my first Aimpoint I won't buy anything else! That battery life/glass is on another level.
Just stuff that works, no gucci gear, nice to see. I like the Shockwave for these same reasons, plus fixed A2 front sight, even the cheap-o amazon light mount are what i've set up too! Noice. Expensive isn't always better.

Why not a handgun like a H&K 9mm? 9MM ammo is cheap and there are more indoor ranges to shoot a handgun. Plus, you can get a Concealed Carry Permit for it.

California mag restrictions were considered unconstitutional by a 9th circuit court of appeals. You can now own "high capacity" magazines in california legally but if you can buy them in the state, that's another question.
Californian here, since you have a fixed mag you can have a flash hider. The issue would be if it had a detachable mag and a flash hider, however pistols aren't allowed to have detachable mags outside of the pistol grip anyway.

Here's something to think about. In my lifetime, maybe in your lifetime, CA flipped from a Red state to a Blue state. From 1952 to 1988, Republicans carried CA in the POTUS election save for 1964 when they voted for LBJ. That's right, that CA voted for Nixon over JFK. How? And how did it flip? Demographics. In 1960, CA was 90% white. 1965 Immigration Act (Hart-Celler Act) changed the rules. Now whites are a minority in CA. And the last 70 years of voting data shows that the super majority of nonwhites vote Democrat 66% of the time. Same thing happened in VA recently and is now a Blue state with ramped up gun control. Texas is purple turning Blue. And once TX goes, Republicans will no longer be able to win national elections.
Ronald Reagan (Republican) passed the Mulford act in California to prevent armed black citizens from open carrying in neighborhoods they were protecting from corrupt cops, however obviously the law couldn't discriminate based on color of skin otherwise the SC would shut it down. So it was a blanket approach that nobody could open carry in California. The NRA also backed the Mulford act, along with a few Democrats. Reagan said the law would have no unjust impact on the honest citizen but it lead to the state's most restrictive gun laws affecting everybody of any skin color. The Black Panther Party even marched on the California state capital open carrying to protest the bill. A little history goes a long way to realize that not everything can be blamed on one side or the other.

In California, if you have a fixed mag you are allowed to have the “offending features” including a flash hider. So although you might like that linear comp, it’s not a must have since your pistol is a fixed mag. It’s either a featureless build or it’s a fixed mag build, not a combination of both.

I dont live in CA. I am thankful. I run a simular set up on a couple of different rigs. Pistols can cross state lines easier, so if im traveling across state lines I use a 10.5 pistol upper just like this with the same brace. Only difference is I run an Olight Valkarie light. IMHO 10.5 is the sweet spot for 556 in a pistol. I have a 7.5 inch SBR and you lose so much velocity and increase the concusion. In 300 blk, 7 inch is the sweet spot and even if adding a suppressor you are still shorter than a standard AR rifle. Really good video and information. The only other question would be how does he feel about a 4 inch AR pistol in 9mm for a truck gun?

If you want short barrel but still legal than doing pistol. I recommend getting 12.5 barrel. Pin & welding 4 inch muzzle brake for featureless in CA. If you got lucky on getting standard mags during 2019 freedom week, you should be fine

Copied this AR pistol setup down to the linear comp with the only difference being a Magpul BTR stock instead. Absolutely love it!

In California, if you have a fixed mag you are allowed to have the “offending features” including a flash hider. So although you might like that linear comp, it’s not a must have since your pistol is a fixed mag. It’s either a featureless build or it’s a fixed mag build, not a combination of both.

Awesome video. Which linear compensator are you using here? I returned a Kaw compensator due to threads being cut wrong. I wanted to probably switch to CMMG. What are your thoughts?

I dont live in CA. I am thankful.
I run a simular set up on a couple of different rigs. Pistols can cross state lines easier, so if im traveling across state lines I use a 10.5 pistol upper just like this with the same brace. Only difference is I run an Olight Valkarie light. IMHO 10.5 is the sweet spot for 556 in a pistol. I have a 7.5 inch SBR and you lose so much velocity and increase the concusion. In 300 blk, 7 inch is the sweet spot and even if adding a suppressor you are still shorter than a standard AR rifle.

If you want short barrel but still legal than doing pistol. I recommend getting 12.5 barrel. Pin & welding 4 inch muzzle brake for featureless in CA. If you got lucky on getting standard mags during 2019 freedom week, you should be fine
