    The crackle happens with all ASIO driver interfaces. The fix is often to set the power profile to max performance. As the crackle is the c states of the CPU ramping up and down.

    • @coldspacemusic
      @coldspacemusic  3 года назад

      My laptop doesn't let me change the performance settings for whatever reason so I turned off the c state settings and that took care of the problem for just recording audio. However when I tried using OBS to screen capture the crackles continued 🥲. I did find a way to get rid of all the crackles completely in a separate video. Its a super long video that walks you thru what worked for me.

      @@coldspacemusic Then you need to add a registry setting to unhide the power plans.
      Open the registry editor. If you don't know how, open search and type regedit.
      Using the folders on the left hand side, navigate to the following folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power on the right, one of the keys near the top should be called CsEnabled. Add the DWORD CsEnabled by right clicking if it is missing.
      Set the value to 0.
      Reboot. You should see other power plans now.
      If not use this to add them back.

    I didn't have much if any problem when I first got the Apollo Solo: No crackling sounds and everything worked pretty much the first time around. The start up sound doesn't bother me at all either, and I do think the upgraded versions make a similar sound.
    Overall pretty good "budget" interface compared to the other ones: Focusrite, SSL, etc.

    • @mykl746
      @mykl746 3 года назад +1

      OH and I do use Windows myself with Ableton as my DAW.
      Tbh the best thing about the Apollo in my opinion is the UI Console.

    • @coldspacemusic
      @coldspacemusic  3 года назад +1

      Dam thats crazy you didn't experience and crackles. I got over the start up sound. I'm probably gonna buy another interface in the future. For straight music production it works fine, after the fixes I had to make. With the ableton 11 update I can no longer use OBS to screen record and im just over it at this point. I don't make videos that often but jumping thru extra hoops is annoying. I do love the sound I just hate the fact that it's such a hassel for me. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM! I have a windows 10 HP Omen and the support is weak from UAD. And it sucks that on my particular pc the bios is locked so I can't change the processor throttling. Universal Audio should just admit that they don't support windows user because I've seen tons of videos like yours and as a content creator I'm thinking of making a video about this subject as well.

      @@coldspacemusic It's just internal relays clicking over, nothing to worry about.

  • @ReflektonRecords
    @ReflektonRecords 3 года назад

    For the crackling switch to 48 kHz in settings on console also in sound settings within windows through playback and recording. That helped me when using OBS but I had to get a driver by ASIO for that... Too many extra downloads and tinker tack BS that destroys work flow!

  • @ShyFx8
    @ShyFx8 3 года назад

    Good video. Sounds like a snare drum when it starts up. But there is a so-called relay on the inside that makes this clicking sound when the device is turned on. This is normal, the same sound is on several other devices as well but just one or two clicks. Looks like most windows users with apollo audio devices have problems with the sound, to me it seems very unprofessional that Universal audio does not have better driver support and especially customer support for those who have bought and paid a lot of money for such an audio device .

    • @coldspacemusic
      @coldspacemusic  3 года назад

      Thanks man. I've already got used to the sound when it starts up I don't even hear it anymore 😄. Yeah it's really disappointing how the treat PC users they are so big you would think they have it figured out by now 🤷🏽‍♂️

  • @Mak933
    @Mak933 3 года назад +1

    You should not be running an audio interface as an audio out. Purchase a dedicated DAC and amplifier for your PC. Crackling can be caused by a couple of things. The Apollo might be recording in a quality that your DAC cannot handle.

    • @coldspacemusic
      @coldspacemusic  3 года назад

      I was looking into that but a really good dac and amp are pricey AF! I mean I got it working now which is fine, and I don't really like having a huge amount of crap connected to my laptop which it kinda is already maxed out. Maybe when I build my own PC ill look into it but im fine with the way its running for now at least it works 90% of the stuff I need. Thanks for the tip👍🏽

    And also why would you use thunder bolt 3 on a windows pc that only support two motherboards for thunderbolt it's not even supported for windows in general, you should have just bought a mac for all that. Your suppose to get the usb version which works better for windows.

    • @coldspacemusic
      @coldspacemusic  Год назад

      My laptop came stock with 1 thunderbolt port. Using the thunderbolt frees up a port that is never gonna get removed anyway. Both usb and thunderbolt have similar problems. This is a software issue not a hardware issue. I don’t like Mac’s at all they are rip you off for the most basic of upgrades but that how Apple works.

      It depends which Version you buy, Their's 2 versions. One is the Thunderbolt 3 version (this one needs a thunderbolt 3 cable). And the USB version, I think this one runs a standard USB A cable im not sure on that and idk if that one is included 🤔. Thunderbolt 3 cable is pretty pricey but you don't need to plug in a AC adapter like the USB Version. Thats why I went with thunderbolt 3 its one less thing to connect. You should take at look at your box if your not sure which one you purchased. Hope this helps ✌🏽

      The new SSL console looks great but I have no experience with its software or how it sounds. im sure both will do about the same job. Even tho the Solo is a pain in the ass, I would buy it again or upgrade to a higher model so I can connect more gear in the future. If you have a minimal set up than its fine.
      If you want a plug and play and not don't want to deal with the dumb shit go with the SSL.
