In this video I show you how to setup your Universal Audio Apollo Solo and Apollo Twin audio interfaces to get started recording quickly. I go over how to connect your Apollo Solo or Apollo Twin, how to use the Universal Audio Console software and how to best use the Universal Audio plugins. I also show you how to use the Unison plugin (unison preamps) to get the best out of your recordings. This video includes sample recordings. I also go through the difference between the Apollo Solo and Twin interfaces. This is the best video if you’re new to Universal Audio interfaces or if you’re thinking about buying one of these interfaces.

🔥 Is the Apollo Solo or Twin on your wishlist? What else do you want to see on my channel?
I want to see about the novation circuit tracks sir.😃😁😀☺🙂😌
Apollo Twin is on mine
I own a Apollo Twin, Apollo 8 and a Satellite Quad. Love it :)
Saving up for the solo.
I have the Solo but when I upgrade it’s the Slate Vrs8
My Mind: solo vs twin
My wallet : focusrite Vs behringer
LOL! That's funny!
Although the Focusrite is 2 to 4 times more expensive than the Behringer
Your mind is the 🔑
@@SanjayC can you compare solo with evo 4/8?
You don't need a 1k dollar interface to record good music average ear would never hear a difference between 1k dollar interface and 20 dollar interface once the vocals are added to beat&mixed so don't worry
Your explanations are clear and on point. The best in the business! Enjoyed listening to your song. Incredible voice. I’m a fan, for sure!
Excellent Video! The visuals, the lighting, the introduction, the examples, just wonderfully done! You have a high standard and execute that excellently, thank you for this wonderful video! Probably the best video about the Apollo Twin X I've seen so far and probably one of the last I'll watch before buying it :)
They both got one thing in common... I can't afford them!
😅😂💯
They offer great payment plans now to make it affordable
Bro don't worry when you start with interfaces like focusrite you get the learning curve !!! Once you are good at what you are and have got the maximum out of it. When you have made some money gradually upgrade to these ones!!!!! That's the way to go !!!
Yes and you really don’t need them. It’s time to report UAD with this really sneaky advertorials that they’re paying music RUclipsrs to plug their gear. Utter shambolic and totally blatant.
😂😂😂 mane price steep asf but ima get one soon.. gotta go hard for what you want 💯💯💰
Man I LOVE that song that you got playing in the back! WHAT A GROOVE!
Thanks so much. I need to finish that song!
Thanks bro I've been waiting for you to do this video for a while....I just bought the solo and this will be extremely helpful
mine literally arrived today! perfect timing, Sanjay!
This was a great explanation of the differences. Thanks!!!
Wow! To know that you had a full song and music and were ready to go just the day before and the ___ stopped working. 💫 You are amazing! You had to create a whole new song with vocals and do it (the tech and tutorial) all over again in a day-ish to catch up! So proud of you🙌🏾😘
Thanks for the support, babe! You're truly the best!
@@SanjayC well played sanjay, Smooth
Really helpful since I'm considering the Solo, Thanks again Sanjay
YOU ARE SO AMAZING! ONE OF THE GREATEST TEACHERS IN THE DAW WORLD I EVER SAW. YOU MUST BE A PROFESSOR OR SOMETHING, YOUR COMPASSIONATE WAYS OF TEACHING ARE SUPERFANTASTIC! KEEP IT UP BROTHER
I love the fact you use ableton and the same gear as I do it helps see different perspectives ! I love the twin has been a very good choice 👍🏼
Man the sample track is so good! I love your voice Sanjay!!
Thanks so much Eos!
everything's so well explained. thank u sanjayyyy #subbed
I'm just getting my studio set up. I had an aborted attempt in 2015, which left me starting with some decent stuff (a Push 1, a Bass Station 2), along with some gear that a few more RUclips videos may have helped with.
My interface (using Windows) was the Scarlett 2i4, but it sounds a little long in the tooth. Luckily for me, at 60, I have enough cash to spring for some things I want (vs need). I just got in the Apollo Twin, and haven't even gotten everything hooked up yet.
I'm so psyched to get started. Thanks for putting out your positive vibes through your informative videos.
A couple of things I don't see any RUclips reviewers do is understand that many of the products they are stoking demand for are simply not available. Two cases in point:
1. I had to pre-order a Komplete Kontrol S88 (on 3/12/2021) and Sweetwater didn't expect to have any until April (we'll see). Apparently, the international parts supply chain has been super stressed by the pandemic.
2. I thought the Roli gear looks like it would add a lot to some of the things I'm interested in trying. I thought I'd get a Blocks setup, but NOBODY has any type of Roli keyboard.
This reality makes seeing all the marketing as almost counter productive, building up products that are simply not available.
Anyway, sorry for the digression, but I think it's worthwhile to mention. Keep up the great work!
Wow, I was just randomly curious about this side-by-side comparison. Searched it and you had my answer. Still writing while you’re doing your intro on the video. Looking forward to it.
get the twin i did and I never looked back lol
Thanks Sanjay! Thanks you for not assuming we know stuff. UAD should have you produce all their tutorials because you cover questions we didn't even know to ask!
Subscribed! Thank you so much for a great video!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thx for the info .. !!! I just got my Apollo Twin X quad..and I’m super excited!!!
P.s. nice production on your vids 🤙
Sweet! Glad you got the Quad...you'll like the extra processing power
I was stocked when I saw you had a video on the Solo Sanjay. You have become my go to Audio youtube guy :) Am in the market for the Solo so really appropriate your work on this video. :)
Nice! If you can, go for the Twin...especially if you plan on expanding later. You'll appreciate the extra processing power for UAD plugins.
@@SanjayC Thanks Sanjay. Yeah I am going for the USB3 Twin as rI un on windows. Cheers!
Looks incredible and a fantastic video. I always like the way you present and you give just enough information in a very clear way. I am definitely thinking about investing in the Apollo Twin X Heritage Edition for my production and my studies and I love the way you can satellite the UAD to create new inputs. Think this will add a new dimension to my sound with the preamps with no latency. The problem I have is my Mac only has thunderbolt 2 but I know you can get an adapter from Apple that will convert to Thunderbolt 3.
I actually use those adapters and they work just fine. I have the older Apollo 8 which has the old thunderbolt connector so I have to use an adapter for that one too
Im one of new new subscribers and half of my problem is already solved.
One of the best music & audio prod channels. Straight on point and practical. (Can we connect akai mini to solo?)
Looking forward to Solo vs Baby face pro . (Request)
I've shared your videos to 9 of my musician friends.
Keep up the good work. Thanks for educating us with your experience.
Thanks for this video, i wanted to buy Apollo twin,
This video clear all my doubts
Buy it i have it and love it
The song is soo good!!! Also learnt from Dharti's instagram that you wrote the song in the night. I hope you get some good sleep if you haven't already.
Thanks so much, Andrew. You know I was working on another song for such a long time and then I had Ableton issues. So I had to throw this one together very quickly.
Excellent Review Thanks
I just bought the Twin today. Thanks for this because coming from a simple little Scarlett Solo I felt lost.
Awesome interfaces🔥😍
Yeah, the recording quality is top notch. Love them!
I like a lot of what UA has to offer, however, I wish they had MIDI as well.
Great vid as always!!!
Thanks Kevbo! Do you have some older MIDI synths? I use a MIDI to USB adapter to solve that problem for my synths.
@@SanjayC what adapter do you use?
Can I ask (and apologies if this has already been answered), is it possible to run DI and get output through monitors without also running through a DAW using a UA interface? I have a DAW so it's not so much of a problem as a question of convenience and flexibility. Sometimes, I don't want or need to fire up my DAW but would like to run via my interface and output to my monitors. My current interface doesn't allow that. And thank you for the review/comparison.
I see you're using the Earthworks SV33. From the things I have read and heard so far, I am really fascinated by it. I'm not sure why there are not more people talking about this mic. Would love to hear your thoughts, Sanjay!
Excellent video thanks. I heard something very interesting here. You spoke about the optical feature to connect multiple interfaces. This means I am able to connect a 003 console (which is an interface as well) with the Apollo Twin x interface?
Great video, Sanjay C! I'd love to get the Twin but my budget at the moment is making me lean more towards the Solo. I'm afraid with the Solo though that I'll be trying to run too many UA plugins. Are you able to maximize the number of plugins if you were to "write" them in at the recording stage? Or does that not make a difference?
You can maximize them by "writing" them when recording, or even bouncing tracks. If you can get a Twin, I think you'll be happier in the long run....unless you're music is pretty simple.
Sanjay how do you feel about using the twin with a windows setup? I love the interface but alot of people complain about them on windows and I'm weary of spending that much I'd it's not going to work. Perhaps the new volt would be better? I make rock music in my bedroom studio
Hello. Very helpful video. Do you have the chance to try the new Antelope Zen Go. How do you think compare to these two? What are your thoughts? . I heard Apollo runs better on mac.
I'm getting one of them soon God willing 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hey quick question does those preamps generate floor noise? Like quiet hiss when plugged in? Noticed that teletronic.
Hi Sanjay, thank you for the amazing video!!!I need an audio interface with warm, smooth sound (i use it only for music listening not production) do you think the apollo solo is the one for me? Thank you so much!!!
Do you not hear any clicking when you adjust the input gain? I can’t seem to figure out why my unit does this.
Excellent video Sanjay, should I upgrade to an Apollo Twin X if I already have an Apollo Solo? I mean sound quality converters and preamps
Hi hope u doing good, I just have a question as I have a twin duo and idk if its from the interface, from the way I cable manage, daw or mic ( lewitt lct 550) I am getting a huge noise flor, love to get ur thoughts and how to fix those
So I'm contemplating I'm buying Apollo solo mainly for DJ recording. Very little vocals and some percussion recording. Can't seem to find anything on DJing and recording with Apollo solo. What do you recommend it for DJ use only?
Very good overview of these UA interfaces. 👍🏻👏🏻
I watched this video because I‘m thinking about purchasing a very good AI, but I‘m not sure if a Focusrite Clarett wouldn’t be good enough for my needs either, as I have so many plugins already. The only thing I‘d like to know is if Apollo Solo and Focusrite Clarett preamps both have the same quality? The quality is said to be definitely better than that of the Scarlett preamplifiers and I wouldn‘t want to buy and work with new Plugins, So: are the preamplifiers’ quality of Focusrite Clarett interfaces as good as those os UA interfaces? Then I would purchase Focusrite as they are cheaper …
Using fl studio with Apollo solo .. my interface is showing green bars going up when I talk into the mic but absolutely no input going into my daw .. please help
Hi Sanjay! You're great, man! Greetings from Argentina. Thank you very much for your all your videos, they are very much appreciated. Could you Please advice me on this? I need an interface to record voice and miked acoustic guitar. Between the SSL2 and the Audient ID14 mk2, which one would you recommend, based mostly on the pre-amp and ADC conversion? Which one will give me the better sound in terms of quality? I'm NOT interested in the 4K option of the SSL2, but I've heard great things about its preamps, same with the Audient ID14 mk2. Thank you very much in advance!! Keep the great work!
I think both those interfaces have excellent preamps and AD converters. But that's only what I've heard. I haven't tried either of them myself.
@@SanjayC Thank you very much for your answer, Sanjay! :-)
Hey Sanjay, I currently record on a 10year old scarlet 2i2 usb-Interface and want to upgrade my setup to a more professional one - starting with a new interface whic should be reliable and serve me well for the next 6+ years of my production journey. As I now have the chance to buy a used (1y old) apollo solo from a local recording studio for 400€, i was wondering if you would recommend doing so or if I should rather go with a cheaper interface (e.g. Audient Id14; SSL2+ Or even AUDs Volt 276)? I heard that with only one chip, the solo might run into problems with the DSP plugins, but as I would most likely only use the free plugins one gets when buying the solo in the beginning, don’t own any analogue gear and mostly record vocals (rap/singing), I don’t know if this would even be a problem for me. Basically, would you recommend buying the solo - and is it a great interface for long term use or just a gimmick for professionals that wont be worth it for me as a semi-professional (personally I heard everything from totally overpriced and wont be able to deal with the plugins to a total game changer and recommended if one is serious about recording). I just really want a well manufactured, reliable interface and am kind of struggling to find some good information on this. Love your videos and thank you in advance!
I am setting up for a podcast. I want to use an octave MK 012 mic through an Avalon VT 737 pre-amp (hardware) into my Macbook Pro where i will use Hindenburg Journalist Pro. I'm not too bothered with plug-ins. Do you think the Apollo Solo is the cheapest way to convert analogue to digital without compromising the quality of my mic / pre-amp? Or could I consider the PreSonus AudioBox USB 96?
Thanks Sanjay! I would LOVE a tutorial on how to use external gear, such as a Strymon pedal, with the latest version of Console. Current info out there is dated and doesn’t match well with latest version. Thanks for all you do to inspire us!
That's a good idea. I struggled with using my external gear as well. Let me see what I can do.
Any idea on how this compares against SPL Marc One ? I mean, in terms of converters - for mixing purposes ... also the quality of the headphone out...
Great video!
Thank you Michael Boney!
In my apollo twin x quad interface channel 1 does not show microphone connection only shows HI-Z shows both mic and line in channel 2 what to do in this situation how to restore channel 1
❤
Hey Premkumaar! How are you?
Great video! I’m planning on getting Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones for my UA Arrow. Would you recommend 80 ohm or 250 ohm for the Arrow? Thanks!
Whoa! UAD is different in many ways than other audio interfaces sir!☺🙂😌😃😁😀
Yeah, its very unique and I really love it.
@@SanjayC yes sir,, I love the Apollo x8p for the power and the no inputs and the quality of the preamps sir.😃☺😌😌😁😀😊
just wanted 2 ask if ur running windows and if u have had any problems with random crackling and popping noises.... i feel like i cant take advantage of a ton of the cool things from my interface because about 10 seconds of wearing it with the distorted audio i cant handle it (not 2 mention i cant hear anything im recording to) anyways... just wanted 2 ask bc it seems 2 be a not a rare problem with windows users
Hey Sanjay, I'm considering the Apollo Solo. Is Luna MPE compatible like Ableton Live is? BTW; have a happy Thanksgiving!
Excellent
Interested why you did not choose an UA audio interface in your rack mount on your desk - do have a video detailing your reasoning there?
Nice Sanjay. Its worth noting that if you want to record (bake in) the effects from console then additional routing is required. Or at least there was some tweaking I had to do within Studio One... Which by the way Sanjay, you need to switch to.. like seriously it is just AMAZING! Been using it for a couple years now and it just keeps getting better and better!
So when you insert an effect in Console, it doesn't just record that effect in Studio One?
@@SanjayC no I had to do some routing. It was the same in Logic also. It was a while back so can’t remember the specifics but it wasn’t automatic
What macbook pro are you using? What version? I have a partition os Sierra that works great with apollo twin x, but 2012 macbook dies not allow loopback as an option to transit over zoom in stereo. On the otherside of the partition, El Capitan which is not compatible with the apollo twin x. Both do not have drivers for My Canon M50. Help?
Excellent all you do! After I record, when I turn on monitor speakers, it starts feedback...please help!
Use ableton 11 with x8p and yet to try Luna...
So, to be clear - when using a UA plugin directly in the DAW, the Apollo is doing the processing and there is no PC CPU power being used. Correct? GREAT video.
What about gigging with the Apollo x twin or solo. Why wouldn't I want to use all these great, effects, preamps processors, etc. Is there a reason why more people don't do it. Couldn't be as simple as plugging in your guitar to the Apollo x into your computer and run it to an amp or a flat response speaker or a pa???
Please help in comments
I wish I had your studio!
Hi, I have a Scar 2i2 paired with yamaha's hs8 with the hs8s sub, I'am a beatmaker so what do you think is the best for me the Rme Babyface Pro fs or the Apollo Twin?
Dumb question: can you take advantage of the processors inside the Apollo only when you are recording or do they also work when you're simply mixing in your DAW such as Logic or Reaper?
yes. i was wonderen this tot
Hi, perhaps this is not the right place to ask, still I have a query as if I purchase an UAD Apollo solo, will I get the matching Uad Spark plugins free with perpetual license. If you please reply I will feel greatful.Regards.
can you record in STEREO using the Solo??? If not what's the point in the two inputs? Hoping I can use the solo to record stereo piano direct out from the Nord or through two mics
Can we just point out how good this man can sing
AUTOTUNED
@@century2077 autotune can't fix a bad recording lol not even melodyne
Hi sir,
uad apollo twin x adapter does not have three pin plug, only two, All the wires whether mic, Headphones or monitors is connected to twin x all have electric
current, In our studio earthing cable is properly connected, But apollo has only two pins in its adapter, I'm getting electric shocks by apollo, please solve the problem, Thanks
Very unclear about a couple of things - 1.) what is the signal path/routing between the interface, the console software and the DAW (assuming that Luna isn't being used0? 2.) at 6 mins - minimising UAD processing power what is the difference if any between Unison pre-amps and the others you are using (that is, is the Unison preamp the interfaces discrete pre-amp and not a plug-in?
I need autotune - avalon 737 - mic mod - after that these are optional but wanted 1176 - la2a - and maybe a eq i can just use the avalons hp and eq if anything, can the solo handle that? I also need the plugins to work on 2 computers at the same time is that something you can do? I'm assuming with the twin I can do that and also have send tracks for reverb and delay and probably be fine live right? Also can you run external plugins on the apollo, I will literally use black and white stock plugins on it if I have too.
what does distorkid have in place to prevent copyright infringement of your music?
I recently purchased an Apollo Solo interface, and I've encountered an issue where the Output selection text, which typically appears in white when pressing the "monitor button," has disappeared. I've tried resetting the interface and reinstalling the digital audio workstation (DAW), but the text still won't appear. Can anyone offer assistance in resolving this matter?
here listening on my krk rocket 8 and damn the first lyric came out cystal
I replaced Arrow to Twin X because it also has power switch, so I can turn it off in California summer heats :) UAD TB3 is best (for windows, and will get M1 one day). Cool and clear demo!!
Sanjay, always wanted to ask your about experience connecting Arturia as ADAT for UAD. Does it work smooth, no issues? Eventually will add X6 to extend desktop (and more UAD power), but I like to get Arturia 8Pre or Fuse to also have an interface for iOS. So to keep 2 synths + guitar wired to Arturia for iOS use and/or use as an extender for TwinX for desktop. My understanding Arturia can run as extender (just drive preamps inputs to optical) without being connected with usb to any ios/win/mac driver. (if UAD just supported iOS it would be optimal :)
BTW what UAD plugs are you using to play/record a guitar? I'm not looking for electro guitar crunch and stuff, just get some mild enchanting for more cleaner sounding guitar sound, incl. nylon.
Thanks for the information. I’m very new to software, universal gear altogetner and doing anything on a computer that’s music related. I just got myself a new iMac that just opened today and also universal Apollo dual x. I use a Yamaha MGP32X mixer.
Can I send an out from my Aux output of my mixer in to the Apollo and in to Luna just to record and quantize in Luna? Everyone says Luna has great quantize. I’ve been using arrangers and lately my MPC One to record and quantize but than you know using delays and also other features becomes difficult. I want to try recording everything comes out of my mixer in eitjer Logic Pro or Luna? Can I do that with this interface? Thanks so much for the help
i've been searching all day for a video like this, but am having a little trouble with cable, I have the apollo twin x and i want to connect it to my windows pc, is there a cable from the thunder bolt to a usb cable ?
Did you find the solution to the problem
What is that mic it looks amazing
I think I have decided on the twin for a “future proof” and just for the ease of use, not having to worry about running out of DSP every minute.
Smart man just upgraded from solo to twin duo
@@Itscvsper hast the Twin a better Quality?
You have a fantastic voice, and I can see that you EQ it a little in the botom. You use one filter at 170 Hz, with a gain of about -5dB, and a Q of around 1.7. Do you mind to share
the values for the HP - cut off freq. and filter steepness, and values for filter 1 also. Thanks in advance.
Hiii
Can you give your opinion on buying either 1) forcusrite solo 2) bheringer umc202hd
I'm very confused. Plz help out.
I want to buy one
Plz.
is there an external DSP only for PCs? Thanks!
Gonna upgrade my 2i2 to the Apollo Solo. Prices on Reverb been getting decent.
I am still happy with my Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. I do notice that the Apollo interfaces do not have MIDI connectivity which is a must for me. Also the plugins and Luna require an Apollo interface to be present when working so that means you will have to take your interface with you while on the road for example.
True, but I use all my UA plugins with Ableton which works best for me. Have you tested out Luna?
@@SanjayC Sorry, I have a pc and I do not have an Apollo interface so I cannot use Luna. I am thinking of buying a macbook pro later this year but even then I would find it frustrating not being able to work with an existing project while on the road because it uses UAD plugins and it cannot find any hardware. The whole idea of having a laptop is that you are mobile
Why get an Apollo over a Focusrite or Behringer UM2. What is all that extra money going towards exactly? Does it generate a better sound?
Love how clear your videos are with home studio gears Sanjay! I got question on UAD's extended connectivity. What's the highest bitrate possible when connecting the Twin to external inputs? Say if I connect my Traveler Mk3 which independently can record at 24/192.. Is it limited to 24/96 via light pipe connection? That's ADAT limit isn't it?
I have external mic preamp and compressor, can I connect those to the Solo?
So basically the sound quality is the same? The difference is in processing power and plugins?
which cable do you use for your monitors? (brand)
Hey so can we connect type c to type c on a pc I don’t have any Thunderbolt port on my pc
Is it worth buying a used one to be used with a windows pc computer ?
Which is more important? Great interface vs great mic? (assuming great voice)
Hi! You mention the Luna software is mac only, yet there's a PC option as well for the product? So if I have Windows, and connect via USB3, I won't be able to run the software since it's mac only? Thank you for clarifying.
You can use these on Windows with any other DAW software like Ableton, Cuba’s, FL Studio etc. You just can’t use UA’s Luna DAW.
does the solo has any latency issues compared to Twin when recording ?? what ms does both u can record with ur setup
Can you do a video on budget analog gear, specifically ones that can be rack mounted on the 19" U standard? Also thanks for the vid!
What kind of analog gear do you want?
@@SanjayC thanks for responding Sanjay! Eq, compressors, preamps, etc. That kind of stuff but on a budget and relatively beginner/user friendly would be great!
Do you know if its possible to run ua plugins with your cpu in tandem with the shark dsp to reduce the total processing strain from ua plugins? It seems like something they would explicitly not implement to coax people into spending more or upgrading...
You can't run UA plugins with your CPU, unfortunately. That wouldn't been great.
What about the amount of plug ins an Apollo Twin solo can run vs the Apollo Solo?
Can I still use my Avalon 737 with Apollo solo ? I’m currently using a apogee duet 2
Dude i love your videos! just a friendly advise you need some room treatment in your room. Keep up the good work!
YES! You're so right. Its on the way...I can't wait to install it and experience better song. Mixing is so difficult without it in my new studio
