21:43 has gotta be my favorite one behind the Musical Number, the sudden reveal that under the baggy lab coat the biggest nerd in the building is actually buff as fuck
I've just finished the game and I find it comforting to read comments that validate how enamored I became with Darling. I purposely explored every nook and cranny of the Bureau to find these clips because I was just so in love with the character. I cannot describe the face I made when I found the Dynamite clip but it took a while to get my jaw off the floor. What a great performance!
Methinks that Dynamite was placed there (whether by Jesse or Darling I dunno) as a tension breaker, cause between Hedron's destruction, the fake credits and the Hiss-induced dream we needed that break.
That part about the HRAs was genius - "But if you don't have an HRA, don't worry. It'll be quick and painless." "Kidding. I'm kidding." "...We're making more." It kind of sounds like he's kidding about people not having HRAs (because they're making more and there will be one for everyone) or that the not-water is deadly, but the player knows that's not what he's kidding about. The classified not-water isn't quick or painless - he needs to make more HRAs, or everyone will die painfully.
Not only that, but the way he says "we're making more" implies that while he is trying to get the bureou to make more it not working out either due to unwillingness or lack of time. He is telling that to calm himself more than he tells to the audience. That line was delivered perfectly.
I love his acting so much... so perfect!! Imagine doing 50 monologues like this... It would take so much time to memorise every monologue, and to think about how to make them as entertaining as he did
Memorizing text is a pretty standard requirement for any actor, theatrical or TV. And guess what - on a theater stage, nobody will grant you rewinds and second chances.
@@Kamamura2 I'm an actor too so I'm perfectly aware. But theatre acting isn't a monologue and is done with other actors, monologues are much more difficult for any actor. On top of that, being given 50 abstract monologues and trying to piece together a story out of them is even more difficult
@@Nimora That’s interesting. I once attended a theater play which was just one character having a monologue although the actress co-wrote it if I remember well.
I usually hate reading material type collectibles in games and although Control has them too I was always excited when I got a new Dr. Darling video. Dr. Darling and these videos add an entire layer of charm and intrigue to the game, as if you're actually watching something "confidential." What a unique game. Top 5 for sure.
Fabian M believe or not, some of the reading material is actually interesting to read because while some of it is boring, there is a since of understanding the work culture before the Hiss came
I was totally blown away when I realized that Matthew Poretta who plays Darling is the voice of Alan Wake😅 I just love that remedy uses the same actors in their games. And with the cast of Control they really knocked it out of the park. I fell in love with Darling almost immediately. Matt really gave his everything into this role. James McCaffrey as Trench is also phenomenal. This game is such a gem. Can't wait for the sequel!

@@AshyGr33n I was thinking the same thing. Like there's no way those giant Mormon boxers can fit inside any pants, I bet the studio's making him wear those to disguise the fact that he's muscles.
Can we talk about the goosebumps I get when he says "I'm kidding" in the HRA video? In just two words he spells out how slow and painful the hiss will actually be. Then, "we're making more" one of the most damming lines in the whole game. The fear in this man's voice. It's so subtle but you know exactly what's scaring him.
This is the first game ever where i did everything in my power to look for collectibles and cutscenes. Mr Darling is portrayed perfectly and learning about the world around you is beyond fun
It's funny how I became so attached to and fond of Dr. Darling, considering that all your interactions with him are one-way....Aside from his "call" near the end, you never really hear from him directly, only ever through his tapes which are sort of addressed to anyone and everyone. You never meet him, you never have a conversation with him, but he's easily my favorite character (which is hard; Arish and Ahti are stiff competition). The actor (and writers, of course) did an admirable job making Dr. Darling so undeniably likeable, even despite the dubious ethics of his work.
I felt the same at the end of my play through. I think he was a flawed human (like all of us) and made questionable decisions such as the way he treated "him", but his heart was in the right place I feel. I like that about him, and especially how passionate he was during the explanations.
Matthew Poretta is amazing with this character. The fact that it's live action no motion capture meaning he can actually have more freedom to have that very cute smiling face like our fellow teachers who always loves to teach us & the reason we love this character is the way he explains with his calm nature in other words science is confusing but explaining it is yes more confusing but not that much confusing & Matthew Poretta did amazing job of moving his body and giving very calm expression like an actual scientist is amazing.
Man, he's really good at portraying a mental image of what it's like living in an environment that is filled with supernatural phenomenons. He should become a writer, perhaps thriller
I love how during the course of these videos being played you start to see him lose it more and more. Then just his final message is just really well done.
Did anyone else find these vids creepy while finding them? Watching them from the menu they are entertaining, relaxing, but when you're in a dark hallway with dead bodies laid around and hostiles just around the corner, hearing that FBC sound start, it gave me chills.
I felt the opposite. I really enjoyed the videos whenever I found them exploring the game. The chime was just a motif for me and almost felt like a trademark of some sorts. I loved his character from the start so I guess that's something to do with it haha.
Oh, _of course_ Darling would mess with the Newton's Cradle at the end, that fits him so well, yes!! I have a huge smile on my face seeing that, as well as looking at Hubert and Carla a little more. I think their little side notes about working with Darling were really cool.
@CATZEistKRIEG i didn't catch it for years either. There's a lot of the shining in control. A lot of Jesse's powers are similar to Danny Torrance, and Carrie White for that matter. Ahti even speaks to her telepathically like Dick Halloran does
When first starting this game I had a theory that Darling was the bad guy. I thought he released the Hiss. Getting through the rest of the game, you realize he has real concern for his fellow workers and the world itself and would do anything to keep the world alive. Without Darling pressing into the madness, the world would have lost to the Hiss imo.
Considering how robotic the dialogue is with most characters in this game I instantly fell in love with Darling and couldn't wait to learn more about him. Eventually I figured since he seemed to know so much that maybe I'd even come across him around the end of the story, but the closer I got and the more I saw I began to realize that this guy was probably dead or maybe worse got caught up in an experiment or an anomaly and wasn't around anymore, and then that realization fully set in with the Final Message tape. And then all that dread disappeared after I watched dynamite and felt like I lost my mind lmfao.

Uh no. The game : This is gonna be weirder than usual. Can't be helped. It's like, we live in a room, and there's a poster on the wall. We stare at it, and we think that's the whole world. The room, and the poster. The picture's something nice - a landscape a famous person. The room's a cell, and the picture, it's different for each of us. It can be beautiful, or terrible. We're all transfixed. But it's all a lie. Something to distract us from the truth. They're lying to us. We're lying to ourselves. The world is much bigger, and much stranger. It's what a paranoid person from the 1960s era imagined was inside of Area 51, but with modern day supernatural ideas. You could almost imagine that the people inside the Bureau were "frozen" in time the moment they moved their HQ to The Oldest House, all workplace progress and bureaucracy are stuck at the moment when everyone first moved into the house. I assume because the House is so removed from the rest of the world, and no one is allowed to leave once they enter. Or this takes place in the 1970s, that would make sense too.

Am I using this as a primary source reference for my Darling x Reader fanfic? Maybe. Do I regret that decision? ... not at all.
Darbs Wait... What?
If you don't link this fic for me to read it's gonna be a crying shame

I always wondered how the hack do they remember every single word of the script they're acting. In his case the script is aready intricated itself and difficult to remember and act, but he manages to act perfectly. It's like studying nursery rhyme for school exams
Nothing stopping the power of cue cards.
i want movie about this guy
Now that I know he also voices Alan wake, all I can hear is Alan’s voice 💀
I love so much this game, thank you for the video
Jubileu Uelibuj You’re welcome always glad to help
For anyone curious, the tone for Dr. Darling's video intros is G A B on the xylophone, I think. It's garbled though because it's old media.
Dr.Chadling
honestly
The game : This is gonna be weirder than usual. Can't be helped. It's like, we live in a room, and there's a poster on the wall. We stare at it, and we think that's the whole world. The room, and the poster. The picture's something nice - a landscape a famous person. The room's a cell, and the picture, it's different for each of us. It can be beautiful, or terrible. We're all transfixed. But it's all a lie. Something to distract us from the truth. They're lying to us. We're lying to ourselves. The world is much bigger, and much stranger.
The game when your parents walk in: 25:26

19:35 maybe Trench's 'ears bled' because he was already contaminated by the Hiss? Not sure if the timeline matches.
What is overall style or setting in these films? It's something in 60s-70s but I can't find a proper name.
Retrofuturistic maybe?
@@Unorthodox2049 Maybe, but there's no future things, everything is old technology
@@DavidStevens765 yeah I forgot about that part. The building refuses to allow some "modern tech" to work inside itself.
That's why I forgot that this takes place in the current year.
Cold War era!
Fun fact: Dr. Darling is also the voice of Alan Wake!
This is my favorite game of all time. Nothing can come close, ever. It's dynamite 😂
