Σε αυτό το βίντεο σας παρουσιάζω την λίμνη Μαραθώνα. Η λίμνη βρίσκεται στο βορειοανατολικό τμήμα της Αττικής και σε απόσταση 28 χιλιομέτρων από το κέντρο της Αθήνας, απλωμένη σε μια έκταση 2450 στρεμμάτων, και συγκαταλέγεται ανάμεσα στους σημαντικότερους υγρότοπους της Αττικής. Το φράγμα της λίμνης κατασκευάστηκε μεταξύ 1926 και 1929 και έτσι δημιουργήθηκε η τεχνητή λίμνη η οποία αποτέλεσε το κυριότερο απόθεμα νερού για την ύδρευση της Αθήνας από το 1931, οπότε άρχισε να δίνει νερό, μέχρι το 1959. Το 1959 άρχισε να λειτουργεί σύνδεση παροχής από τη λίμνη Υλίκη και από το 1981 το περισσότερο νερό για την ύδρευση της ελληνικής πρωτεύουσας προέρχεται από την τεχνητή λίμνη του Μόρνου. Σήμερα πλέον όλο το νερό της λίμνης Μαραθώνα δεν θα επαρκούσε παρά μόνο για λίγες ημέρες υδροδοτήσεως της Αθήνας. Η λίμνη Μαραθώνα αποτελεί μια ιδανική επιλογή για βόλτα όλες τις εποχές του χρόνου.
The Marathon lake is an artificial lake which was built with the purpose of collecting water for the water supply of Athens and it was formed by the construction of the Marathon dam at the confluence of the ravine and Barnava streams and at a distance of a few kilometers from the minister city of Marathon.
The lake is located in the northeastern part of Attica and at a distance of 28 kilometers from the Center of Athens, spread over an area of 2450 acres and is among the most important wetlands of Attica.
This lake was the main water reserve for the water supply of Athens since 1931, when it began to provide water until 1959 when a supply connection from Lake Yliki began to operate, while since 1981 most of the water for the water supply of the Greek Capital comes from the artificial lake of Mornos. Today, all the water of the Marathon lake it would only be enough for a few days of subsidies from Athens.
The Marathon Dam was created between 1926 and 1929 and thus the artificial lake of the same name was also created. The dam is 54 M high and 285 M long. It is lined with all white Pentelic marble, just like the Parthenon.
There is also the water museum. There you can see up close the history of the creation of the dam in the showcases where tools and equipment used during its construction are stored in the outside area of the Museum. You'll see horse drawn carriages, huge water pipe molds for an impressive water dispenser.
An ancient Greek marble temple has been built. It is the most wonderful sight a faithful copy of the treasure of the Athenians of the people which the ancient ancestors of the end had built in commemoration of the victory against the Persians in the battle of Marathon. But the temple in the lake wass built there to remind people against the lack of water.
To get to the easy one, but to avoid those many, you can go from the national highway of Athens Lamia, at the height of Agios Stefanos. You turn right and follow the information signs after the central square and we continue towards the lake from this central road, enjoying the route and the peaceful nature.
The Marathon lake is an ideal choice for a walk in all seasons of the year.
