I have never heard this song in my entire life until last month, when I've heard this by accident only three times... Now I'm listening this everyday... 1. On my 25th birthday, I wanted to visit my beloved Grandpa. He was suffering from cancer but minutes before I came to His house, He had lost consciousness and was taken to hospital. During waiting for any information about Him, this song started to play from speaker in hospital's waiting room. I've never heard this before, but its mellow sound gave me chills and weird, calming vibe with hope, that everything will be fine... 2. One week later we were sitting with Grandpa in hospital and we both knew, that he'll pass away in next few days. When I was leaving the hospital, I've started an engine in car, turned on the radio and this song filled the air. 3. Two days ago, right before His funeral, I've heard this song from a car parked in front of cementery's gate. There was nobody inside, only music. Thank you, Eurythmics, for creating such a masterpiece filled with emotions. R.I.P. Grandpa, wait for me, wherever you are now...

I absolutely love the way the Sopranos used this song. The whole episode centers around Tony making decisions to repair relationships, he continually does what he thnks should be all the right things. Wants to commit to his wife, looks after Irina, makes peace with Junior, makes a gift to Beansie, helps Janice. In the end he's just sitting there alone, feeling like complete shit. Because ultimately subconsciously he knows that all the things that are wrong with his life are rooted much deeper and can't be resolved by doing a couple of favors.

When the profoundly menacing Richie met his sudden end, I was flooded by feelings relief, even joy. The music really intensified the experience tremendously, and I loved it instantly. This is such a great example of how music and drama each have the ability to broaden and strengthen each other.

Reading the various thoughts of everyone who commented, it occurred to me that the world must be saved daily. The people who do this are first responders, EMT’s, emergency room doctors and staff, military personnel, scientists, weather forecasters, and yes, musicians - they’re out there keeping it all together so that there’s a tomorrow. If we’re out there helping them then we are a part of the good thing that’s constantly on the edge of falling apart.

I would like to share my interpretation about this beautiful, underrated song. For me it's about a very deep depression, about a person who feels so empty inside that he can't find pleasure in anything he does, even though he has "everything he needs" as the song says. I think "I saved the world today" means that this person made it for another day, is breathing, but still feels indifference towards the world and the people around him.
Totally agree with your depression analysis but my twist to "I saved the world today" is the person has died and from their point of view has saved the world today for others as nobody has to suffer from their negativity and unhappiness anymore .

Saw this performed at the Peace tour in Brisbane Australia with my mum, the last concert we went to before she passed I’m so glad this was the last concert she saw as Annie & Dave were amazing and she loved seeing them live ❤️🕊

It would be a great tribute to Annie and something very original to take a song created many years ago and use it for a new movie. What else than save the world that day makes Bond?Just daydreaming!! But it would be great if we could even intervene in some detail of the production of this great movie that I love and make to Annie a tribute.
rumour has it that this was written to be a bond song but the producers thought it too dark to use and decided not to use it, you can imagine if you listen closely to the words why that is. Personally I think this would have been an awesome intro to a bond movie.
