- This is a 2006 Honda Accord EGR passage remove and clean. You want to do this maintenance to pass smog, reduce rough idles, and whenever you replace your EGR valve, you want to clean out the ports and replace the gaskets as well. This service is more of a preventative maintenance, if you have any check engine lights regarding the EGR system, read the codes and start diagnosing from there.

I have a 2005 Accord LX and getting code P0303 cylinder 3 misfire @ 155,000 miles. Coils were good, changed out the spark plugs with NGK IR oem, and replaced all injectors (aftermarket) and was still getting P0303. I needed to replaced the valve cover gasket so I also did the valve adjustment per Honda specs on the hood label. Still getting P0303 and could not figure out what was the problem. So I followed this video and it cleared my code and my smog monitors are all cleared. Which I would have seen this video soon cause I was struggling to get my car light to turn off. Hope this helps someone out there. The EGR passage top cover center bolt has Honda bond so I added Honda bond only to the center bolt. This Chanel is great and has saved me a ton of money on my older model Accord and Civic EX.
Glad to know you’ve fixed the issue!
I’ve got an 06 Accord with over 200K miles on it that is just starting to show its age and I’m finding all of your tune-up videos incredibly helpful these days. Thank you for the clear breakdown on this particular model
Thanks, unfortunately I don’t have it anymore due to cat theft.
My 2006 Honda Accord was giving me 17mpg. After I follow this video and gave it a good clean as it was super clogged with carbon it’s now giving 21.8
That is bad. My has 30 mpg avg
This was quite possibly one of the best things I’ve ever done for the car. Thanks.
I’ve gone through 2 tanks of gas since doing this and I’m burning way less oil than before it seems... would you say this could be true ?
@@danny51981 I would think that it's best to believe so, Danny boy.
Nice work. I appreciate all the videos. I have an 03 and 04 Ex and these have definitely come in handy. They're also well-edited. Just cleaned the EGR passage today on one.
actully been thinking about doing this to my g/f accord before it clogs up. No issues now but im a strong believer in preventive maintenance. Probably why my 1970 dodge dart is still a daily driver. Stuff like egr is why i drive classics lol.
lol,
We also need to do the EGR valve and passage as well, but that'll be for next time, its deep in there and yeah...
NutzAboutBolts yeah it looked like it wont be fun to replace if i need to. cant be much harder than the egr blockoff i just did on a 6.0 powerstroke though lol.
#NutzAboutBolts
Wow that was easy to do and not badly clogged!
The 5th gen Accord 1994-1997 was a real mess and usually the passages are ALL fully clogged causing reductions in MPG and efficiency.
Delete it!
Hey thanks buddy... I just got my gasket from Amazon and will be doing this today 😀... my EGR has being replaced already
Fuel economy any better after this procedure?
Thanks for the detailed video. I cleaned the passage out - lots of hard carbon in there that is stubborn to remove - but nothing was completely plugged. Didn't make any difference to the idle or the engine performance/efficiency.
Great video and Thanks! I use a Berryman's Chem Dip in the one gallon pail. It's available at most auto supply shops. Let it soak for about 30 minutes and it will clean all of the crusted, hardened carbon off the parts without any scrubbing or damage to the metal. May be a good idea to order a new Honda gasket to get it sealed up.
Great job except for that beauty cover peg...thank you for good step by step.
i have phobia of the metal bristle came loose and drop into the egr hole
I was concerned about that, too. When I do it, I'll use an old toothbrush.
Well thank you NutzAboutBolts, my Honda drives a whole lot better now thanks to you , thank you so much.
thanks..I cleand the EGR VALVE TOO THE square hole is the passage for the hole on the top I put the compressor hose and cleaned all the system
Wow! Thanks for letting us know ..We have exactly the same model and year SULEV 2003,BTW do you still have your car? Great vid.I learned a lot from you guyz...Thanks!
yes, we still have the Honda Accord. We want to do the EGR valve video but we're still trying to find time.
NutzAboutBolts I'm cleaning like what your doing shit mine is worse it's dry covered almost the passeges I mean 2003 and not even up since 2003...
Would this cause a misfire code? I’ve replaced spark plugs (oem), tested coils and injectors. I guess this is it. It drives smooth but starts rough.
It’s possible if it’s clogged enough.
Did this fix your problem Mr. Ali? I'm wondering if this is the cause of my misfire too. Plugs, coils, and injectors all seem ok.
Yes. I had multiple misfires and almost stalled at low speed when my EGR was clogged. Cleaned it out off replacing it now six months later had to pay 700 to replace EGR and full intake cleaning, she runs so much better though. No more p401
What symptoms would you face from a clogged EGR passage? Thanks for the info, great video guys! (That last scene where the cover was not installed correctly gave me anxiety)
rough idle, possible check engine light.
agreed, you will get check engine light.. better to clean before you have to pass smog

Do you mean poor fuel efficiency?
Great video! Thanks showing all the details of doing this.
glad we could help.
Wow! We have the same model ,when I lookedmine crap almost clog and almost filled with carbon junks. Thanks!
My 2004 has two gaskets that sandwich an 1/8” thick plate with the same holes as gasket (so it looks like three gaskets stacked on top of each other), and it’s all held together with a rivet on each end. Looks like I’ll be cleaning the old one and throwing it back in... there goes my preparation and planning by ordering the part from Amazon ahead of time. I wonder if I can throw in just the one thin gasket as it looks in the video.
No, the part number for that is: 17146-RBA-004
Very difficult to find, but I have found it at honda parts online.
I just used the new thin one and it works fine. I checked to make sure the bolts would not be too long first, and could not see any other reason for having a thicker gasket... so in the thin one went.
@@danulmer2124 really? Damn, I also bought the thin one, but I didn't dare to put it in. After a very long search I found the thick one.
What bothers me is that; why is there a thick and a thin one ?
Replaced egr valve and did this and it was built up with deposits but cleaned it well. Runs better but not great and still getting egr code. Any recommendations?
i beg you guys , clean your EGR Passage and you will notice the difference.
It was facing the wrong way? So do I do this the way you showed us in the video or???
Man you Videos are so great. Love it.
Much appreciation bud!
OHHH yeh, the accord is back. been waiting for this haha. u guys gotta clean that engine again lol. Cool video, gonna do this preventative maintenance some weekend soon, didn't even know about this. Thanks !
lol, yeah our engine bay is dirty again :(. There's also the EGR valve and passage that we will have to find time to do as well. It's deep inside, we'll have to do it next time.
Were you having misfire issues prior to cleaning this?
@WiNspiration cleaning the EGR port fixed your misfire?
I am going to do this. I feel like this could be the cause of my check engine light that was coming on and off for months. It stopped after lots of long 75-80 mph trips on the highway (about 95% highway). But The problem did go away after the long trips and changing out the counterfeit ngk spark plugs with real ones. I am also concerned that the coils I bought for the price of one denso may be another issue. But honestly, the check engine light hasnt come on in a few months now and she seems to be running good. But I still want to do this. It couldnt hurt right? Also god bless the cleaner and those people's lives who it has taken who didn't wear proper PPE.
imma do this as soon as the auto store opens.
iv been told the EGR reutern is not use full for the cars and its better to just plug them up since they put a inert gass back in witch loses power to keep the old cats from over heatting but with moden high flow cats theres no point and you get batter HP and effincy
I noticed the oem bolts for the egr passage have Hondabond on them. But your vid does not mention Hondabond or silicone sealant. Is this needed?
Nice vid.. what happen if you brush n clean the 4 hole port inside the exhaust?.
Did you have any problems with using the same Gasket??
Great video! 💪
Does the 2004 Accord v6 6speed manual have an egr valve? I’ve found nothing about it.
Do you know if the 8th gen (2008-2012) Accords have an EGR valve?
The Honda CR-V 2005 has the same egr passages ?
Ok, so apparently 95 Honda Del Sol's don't have an EGR Valve. So do they have an EGR Passage? And what did you use to clean it? What spray is that? Thanks!!
Mike Kollin Elite Dating and Relationship Coaching if there s no EGR valve there won’t be any passages. The spray is brake clean
Hey bro have you ever replaced your engine mounts or transmission mounts? Also my car starts at 1500 rpm on a cold start. Is that normal? Thanks for the video.
No, not yet. The idle should be between 600-800rpm. Is there a vacuum leak in your vehicle?
@@NutzAboutBolts no vacuum leak that I know off..my car still jerks when going from park to drive. Reason why I replaced all engine mounts and transmission mounts. (All oem parts)
Also my check engine light is on but it’s just for a catalyst converter.
Thanks
@@anthonyperez8617 high idle usually means vacuum leaking somewhere... if it’s not a big leak, it won’t show up with a check engine light. As for the CEL, I’d suggest fixing it
@@anthonyperez8617 that is normal when it's cold.
Mine was seriously gunked up on the 4 holes and I pushed the carbon into the manifold to clean it and now the car won’t start help!? Please
What is the part number of the Qaskst please?
17146-RAA-A01 Gasket, EGR Chamber
Hi guys, can anybody share the correct part number for this gasket shown in the video? Mine is 2005 Accord Ex 2.4 ( K24) . Thanks ! Been looking around for it and it seems sold out / discontinued .
First off when you drop a boat like that you don't open up the chamber and then try and get the bolt out of there you dropped it'll fall into the chamber. Second off you don't clean up parts with brake cleaner and cleaning with it at trial body cleaner or am proved EGR clean it will ruin the rubber on the gasket, not to mention mess up the sensors like the map sensor in all the other sensors that are in that manifold. CERN and just as important as first two you do not reuse megr gaskets like that once you take them apart they cannot be retort down properly and seal properly. I wouldn't want to bring my vehicle in for you to work on at your shop, if you're not going to do the job right the first time, and you do not use a torque wrench to torque to reach you are cover back down onto the manifold, are you didn't show it.
I have a 06 accord 2.4 with code p0300 would this help with this? Thanks.
Still have my 2006 Accord EX manual. Currently trying to figure out a P0172.
Try the mass airflow sensor, if that doesn't work check for excessive air getting into the intake
Needs Changing: VTECH Solenoid Gasket or IAC Gasket
Needs Cleaning: IAC, Throttle Body
Did you ever figure out this code im running rich as well.
The USDM engine was swapped with a JDM so that might of been the problem. Still haven't fixed it.
@@afterdark6822 oh only thing I can think of is I have a slight exhaust leak near the cat before the upstream but I read that will actually make a lean condition so that shouldn't be my problem.
This Honda it's 2003? If yes, u have any problem with the transmission?
Only v6
This accord does it have also a egr valve? or it's just a fixed amount of crap that is run back in the intake?
There’s an egr valve
Thank you so much! Just please tell me what the lid part that you bolt together once finished called because I cracked it, trying to tighten that fucked up bolt with the wiring on it
Can you mark the time on which part it is?
@@NutzAboutBolts I found it. It's the EGR chamber. It's the thing those 8 or whatever bolts are holding together. The lid.
@@thebestever333 nice. Glad you found what it was lol
@@NutzAboutBolts Yeah, unfortunately I'm gonna be a week and a half without a car hahahah
@@thebestever333 ouch, yeah those 10mm bolts doesn’t take a lot of torque to break
Your bad ass mechanic
Where’s the actual EGR valve I can’t find it idk if I’m blind or something
Dino Saur it’s ok the right side next to the engine.
Do u work for honda
Thanks for the video great job man
what brand is your red cordless impact gun? Price?
I have this unit and very happy with it. I often use is as a medium torque wrench to lossen and tighten bolts.

Does that gasket have another name? When searching I can only find the actual egr gasket. The smaller gasket.
Nvm. EGR Chamber Gasket.
Part # 17146-RAA-A01
Its $22 shipped to where I live. NJ
Thanks for the video!!
Thanks! I was looking for it as well and the name EGR plate didn't help since that is what it's called. The part number helped and I added the link for the part.
Part number on that gasket anyone? I can’t find it
Guess it’s dealership special order parts, none on Amazon or ebay.
Hell ya
How about cleaning the EGR valve?;)
better you buy a new valve.. should be around $10. There are plastics and springs inside the valve that get worn out and not worth cleaning.
arielban1 $10 for a EGR valves?? Are you on drugs? My local dealership charge $140 new.
@@iMotoTactic00L Delete egr
Sir! I'm planning to buy the gasket but what kind of Gasket called? Egr passeges gasket? Intake maniford gasket? Thanks! Coz I can't find this kind of gasket
egr chamber gasket or you can ask egr passage gasket
the plastic cover was put back the wrong way
having trouble re-sealing the gasket. any suggestions or know where i can buy a new one??
Dealership or rockauto
@@NutzAboutBolts is it bad if I used a vaccum on the passages? I just did this and my car isnt starting
@@CQLLIN what do you mean vacuum ?
@@NutzAboutBolts I used a actuall shopvac to vaccum over like everything because there was so much carbon and crap in there, I have an ‘04 Accord Ex
@@CQLLIN I would assume that wouldn't be the cause...I just watched an Eric the Car Guy video where he recommended vacuuming the gunk he loosened with a shop vac because there was a ton of it.
I got a CEL after this is it the bad gasket?
I’d check the code and see what it is.
NutzAboutBolts p0457 evap system leak detected/ fuel fill cap loose or missing and p0497 evap canister sustem low purge flow
Clint Eastwood there’s no P0457, there’s P0455 and P0456 which is either a gross leak or very small leak, it’s probably your fuel cap is loose.
As for P0497, there is none for the Prius. Is this even for the Prius because those codes you gave me aren’t in the repair manual.
NutzAboutBolts its for an accord p0457 and a p0497 thats the codes i pulled
Still have the codes p0497 & p0457 car shakes when rev to 3k
Delete your egr! It fucks up your engine and makes it slower. Fire needs air to burn and putting burnt gas back in makes it run hotter and makes it no ignite fuel well.
