Aarons on point about the 350z's Coming from someone who has owned both the DE and the HR just buy an HR. Less oil consumption and overall issues. Spend the money on the spring bucket delete with a true coilover setup to allow better adjustment in the rear. Tie rod ends with spacers are a must for more angle but even removing the bump stop gives you a bit more than stock. ARP wheel studs are necessary too because the stock studs will break when you get the car sideways. I highly recommend switching to a 17 inch wheel to give you more sidewall (tires are also generally cheaper) and make sure the wheels you buy are the correct offset and are hub centric (hubs are 66mm) Also there's no need to cut the bump stops off. I see so many videos of people grinding or cutting them off. They're removable with a 19mm deep socket.
I will say if you start taking the bumpstops off with the spacers and or tie rods you start to have problems with overcentering your steering which has scared the hell out of me a couple times your exiting a corner and all of a sudden your steering is basically locked and you have to manhandle it back

I thought this was a very well thought out video. I have a bonestock e36 328i with BC BR coilovers. For years the closest track that allowed drifting was 5+hours away, but within a few months a place has opened up 45 mins away and another in my hometown is finally opening up to drifters. Both tracks would be on a smaller scale, maybe something along the lines of where Chelsea runs his school of drift or maybe slightly bigger turns. I really want to get out there and give it a go but part of me thinks my car is going to be to slow. Thinking about welding up the diff and giving it a shot anyways, I've wanted to for years.
Sweet info man ik your in Texas but could there be a video in the making about tracks/ legal ways to drift ideas about approaching owners of tracks possible skid pads areas?? I’m in eastern Iowa thanks
Very helpful and informative. Flying down to Texas this week for a G35 seat time car. Best lol of this video is Aaron saying JZX or S15 for 10k in the US. Those days are long gone.
I need to do another one of these videos lol, things have changed a lot in a few years! We have dudes on DW3 spending less on a F80 M3 than some do on a JZX100 now?!?!
I'm watching this now and prices have jumped to nearly double here in Australia. 350z's are now min 10k and that's a cheap find. Most are around the 16k AUD mark currently. You should do another video on what's more affordable currently, love the videos mate 🙂✌
A DE 350Z on the east coast starts at like $4500. You could probably pick up a running and driving SN95 mustang for under a grand though. Thanks for all the tips. I'm buying my first drift car soon.
I fortunately was paid for a year to work in a Mazda parts yard / warehouse. Most of my time and resources was around miatas. Needless to say I have great connections and with all that came knowledge. I'm disabled now, unable to work a day job. Sold my e36, sold my rx7 and sold the drag truck. Now my fiance and I have our focus on throwing together a Miata. Its starting to become a really really good car for less then I had into the cylinder heads on my truck. Excellent option for those wanting a lot of seat time for the low. I obviously chose miata do to my previous experience, the bmw was also an excellent platform. Seemed cheap I just didn't have wealth into knowledge or resources.
Kyle Rackets my opinion is that it falls under the category of a 350z price, reliability, and daily drivable... but he probably didn’t put it on his list because of their lack of power. I’d like his opinion as well, they’re becoming solid competitors price wise.
Im 3 years too late but some people may still be new to drifting and view this so my recommendation would be to get a IS200 SE or LE and learn in that, they are bulletproof, loads of parts, they are everywhere and cheap enough to get great parts.
So i bought my s13 about 3 years ago and dailyd it for about 2 until i came across problems that i couldnt fix, so now i have a daily and i want to drift my car as is, but cyl 3 has low comp, so i bought another sr to refresh and yeah its just taking forever honestly. i just want to go drift the thing and now its like i have to wait til i have the funds to finish everything up. then kit, wheels, wheel, and paint lol
What about a salvage 3/4 viper? Say you get a decent one for idk 15-20k, what all would you really need? Obviously running 345s would suck, but you could either run spare front wheels in the rear with like 255s, or do some kind of 6 to 5 lug adpaters. Other than that all you need is a seat, hydro e brake, accusump, i think they even come stock with adjustable coil overs.
@Lone Star Drift , I just purchased a Toyota aristo (jzs161) here in the US. I’m curious what your thoughts are on the car? I am swapping the automatic trans. for a cd009 6 speed with adapter. I opted for the R154 but the cd009 fits better with has better shifter location. Other than the trans and maybe a simple tune it will make for a good daily drifter. I prefer the backroads I have around here. Sadly there are no tracks that will host events
I bought a mustang for my first drift build last year because my family knows ford plus and im not very mechanically inclined and id rather do angle mods vs engine swaps
20sacmac I’m getting an early 2000s mustang 5.0 for my first drift car gonna need diff angle coil overs arms and you’re drifting with almost 300hp stock
I have a question, in rally it’s commonly said the best car to start with is the one you already have, I have a mk3 Supra, I know that there is support for it but not much, my question is should I drift my Supra or wait and buy something else?
I have 40k into my 2jz s14 pro 2 car and it doesn't have wisefab, crazy fuel system, rear mount rad or built 2jz but I can easily see how it can get to 75-100k to build though. I plan to compete with you guys one day.
Speaking of ready to go there are some great places like driftworks forum to find great deals. Most will need imported or transported but even after that most of them are still cheaper than putting it together yourself. I've seen some very well optioned skylines gtst's and Silvia's and on and on run around 7000 including import fees.
Between a C6 Corvette and a 2008 350Z which do you think would make the better starter car? I'm planning on daily driving it and adding mods as I get better.
I've seen some later model WS6's slightly modified work fairly good 3rd gen Camaro take a ton of modification never seen a 4th Gen drift Camaro and I've seen one highly modified 5th gen Camaro very interested to see what other people's input on the 5th gen's is
I don't think many of them would be very good since they use a steering box instead of a rack and pinion. Steering box's don't recenter like a R&P. Same goes for 1st gen RX-7's.
My 04 G sedan all together including car purchase and parts cost me under 8k. GK tech super lock angle, GK tech full hydraulic E brake setup. straight piped exhaust with y pipe isr blast pipes and test pipes. 6 puck with slave/master/throw out bearing.. Cheap ass full coilovers front and rear. It totally rips and it has 234k miles on motor.

Conclusion I’m still building my fc rx7 to drift lol my 350z is the daily
lololol
As an rx8 owner, this is not the car to drift unless you can afford an engine swap, and then it's the perfect car for everything
This is an amazing piece sir....I am actually considering getting an E36 and hope to get more build info/guidance from such a platform.
Sweet info man ik your in Texas but could there be a video in the making about tracks/ legal ways to drift ideas about approaching owners of tracks possible skid pads areas?? I’m in eastern Iowa thanks
This video is super informative, thanks.
A stock KA s13 welded diff arms and cheap coils all day
I mean in Texas mustangs and comaros, firebirds are dirt cheap and so are parts you can get a SS OR GT or $3,500-$5,000 for good examples.
Dont quit it will get better bro you got this
damn he really out here dropping the FAX
Would that be considered driftcarfax?
good shit Aaron 👍 I said to myself as well, wow 4 days in a row!!?? rock on brotha🤙
What about a 240
Thank you for breaking it down. Much help
A DE 350Z on the east coast starts at like $4500. You could probably pick up a running and driving SN95 mustang for under a grand though. Thanks for all the tips. I'm buying my first drift car soon.
The new video I'm sharing with people that want to get into this sport. Great video yet again sir
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing! I'm looking to buy a Miata to drift and im glad to hear it is going good and cheap!
@@lowandsidewaysgarage4157 Feel free to follow on Insta to see what we've come up with! And I have an idle video posted here. @rotard89
What's your opinion on the FR-S/BRZ?
Kyle Rackets my opinion is that it falls under the category of a 350z price, reliability, and daily drivable... but he probably didn’t put it on his list because of their lack of power. I’d like his opinion as well, they’re becoming solid competitors price wise.
Lone Star Drift 350z or mustang? What would Aaron pick?
Awesome awesome video aaron. Thank you for the upload
Awesome vid. Would definitely be interested in a video on different mustang setups as they are getting pretty plentiful.
I will do that
Your altezza/is200/300 suspension is same as the jzx100
Drifting your daily is asking for trouble.
Im 3 years too late but some people may still be new to drifting and view this so my recommendation would be to get a IS200 SE or LE and learn in that, they are bulletproof, loads of parts, they are everywhere and cheap enough to get great parts.
“Vi-De-O...G-A-M-E...Sss-Immmmm...”
Lmaooo! Cracked me up man
I’m gonna try and drift my rx8 anyway and when I get good imma bring it there and blow the motor up
Cliff K I own 2 Rx8’s and have build dozens of rotary engines. Unless you have 10+ years into rotary engine building don’t do it
Is the s13 a good beginning drift car?
Bad idea in my opinion. Lack of aftermarket drift parts and expensive body panels, etc
Lone Star Drift yeah good point.
Purchase the newer CD00A instead of the CD009.
I bought a mustang for my first drift build last year because my family knows ford plus and im not very mechanically inclined and id rather do angle mods vs engine swaps
20sacmac I’m getting an early 2000s mustang 5.0 for my first drift car gonna need diff angle coil overs arms and you’re drifting with almost 300hp stock
i actually really needed this, thanks !
I have a question, in rally it’s commonly said the best car to start with is the one you already have, I have a mk3 Supra, I know that there is support for it but not much, my question is should I drift my Supra or wait and buy something else?
Thanks for the knowledge
I have 40k into my 2jz s14 pro 2 car and it doesn't have wisefab, crazy fuel system, rear mount rad or built 2jz but I can easily see how it can get to 75-100k to build though. I plan to compete with you guys one day.
what do you think of the volvo 740?
6 speed e60 and e90 are good ones. Wisefab has a modified e90 kit for e60
Just got my first S13 a couple weeks ago for under 5k been working on it so far, very excited. Should be done by September/October realistically
Is it easy to work on? How’s it going?
And He knows that lens better not be wide open ?! Respect level Ultimate
Speaking of ready to go there are some great places like driftworks forum to find great deals. Most will need imported or transported but even after that most of them are still cheaper than putting it together yourself. I've seen some very well optioned skylines gtst's and Silvia's and on and on run around 7000 including import fees.
haltech is good for ecu 10k for platinum gear...
Between a C6 Corvette and a 2008 350Z which do you think would make the better starter car? I'm planning on daily driving it and adding mods as I get better.
what about the camaro or a trans am???
I've seen some later model WS6's slightly modified work fairly good 3rd gen Camaro take a ton of modification never seen a 4th Gen drift Camaro and I've seen one highly modified 5th gen Camaro very interested to see what other people's input on the 5th gen's is
@@countrydrift5500 i know someone who drifts a 3rd gen camaro, didnt get much into detail about his angle or anything
The hard part about those cars is finding suitable suspension parts for drift.
I don't think many of them would be very good since they use a steering box instead of a rack and pinion. Steering box's don't recenter like a R&P. Same goes for 1st gen RX-7's.
Hey Aaron, why not an e46 m3 mate? You prefer a 330 and I don’t get it to be honest as m3 has better everything and more set up for drifting.
Really good breakdown !! good work !!
I'm new here. So what is an
S13?
Will a Ford escort Mk2 work?
