I’m late to the party here, but your design is genius! I don’t know how you came up with this. Such a cool and practical design. Is it still working well for you?

Hello Patrick, welcome to the party. Better late than never! 😀 I’m driven by ideas and sometimes I take action on them, LOL! To answer your question, yes, I have been using this gizmo on a regular basis and it has been helpful.

Very interesting concept! I just finished a DP table as well. I know just having a metal table does not aid a woodworker. Great job!

Dude? Where you been? Checking everyday for a new project. Don’t let the naysayers keep you from putting out new content. Even if they don’t like it, some of us like watching your projects. You build what you think will help you and do it for you. Even if people don’t see the value to them, if you like it and it helps you then keep doing it. I will be watching and many others.

Hi TN Hawkeye, thanks for your support! I know it’s been a while since my last post, but I assure you I’m continuing to create new content. Stay tuned for more very soon!

Don’t do that, dude! I know I’ve been out of sight for a while, but there is more content in the pipeline. Thanks for your patience!

That is a great idea. My problem is raising and lowering the table being that it's always in the way of the leaver. Thought about extending it but i like your idea too that way you don't have to remove it.

I would have used two metal tracks in the table just like you used in your fence. The whole concept does seem a bit on the wobbly side and not very durable nor practical. You may find that setting it up and tucking it away after a job will get too cumbersome and you'll either leave it in one position for most of your projects or you'll take it off completely because it may just become a frustration for multiple reasons. You did, however, do a nice job on the realization of your design and making a video of it. Thanks for sharing.

I didn't read the other comments. Just my opinion. I realize that you probably work with wood and metal. For that application maybe this could work. When I drill in steel, I use cutting oil. If you did it on your table, wouldn't the oil ruin the piece you just created? My Son is a welder. Always using my shop equipment. If he ruined my little table I'd be really po'd

Nice idea! I think the only impractical bit about this is taking the fence off and putting it back on when the table it folded away. Can you just loosen the fence and slide it off the back, and then make somewhere to hang it off the table that's folded away?

The concept is good but the mounting system appears to flimsy to serve any real function.

Seems very fiddly to me to store and reassemble.
Easier to remove and remount a standard table

SAY WHAT!!?? It does WHAT!!?? HOW!!?? lol just kidding (sort of) It looks to be a good design and I love the fact you can store it away. All that said .....I prefer a stationary table. I would suggest waxing the parrts so you don't get tear out from moving the T-Bolts

After one year, it’s still on my drill press and it still works. I use it more in the “deployed” configuration than “retracted,” but that’s probably because I do more with wood than metal.

Decent idea and I'm not saying anything negative about your ingenuity but it all seems a bit too loose for my likes. It flops around a bit to much but if that doesn't affect you, then no big deal. I much rather prefer a more positive feel to anything I put on a drill press. You have slots in the existing metal base, if I were making something then I would have attached it to those; this allows it to be much stronger. Sure it wouldn't fold away but the folding action adds unnecessary slop and complexity to the system. Looks cool though and if it works for you, then that's all that matters.

I'll say, flash in the pan. You could have just made a shelf under the factory table to store a user made table. And, with a one-piece design, the fence can remain mounted. Sorry, but I don't see how this is a good idea -- interesting build, but not something that solves a problem.

    • @mrprimenumbers6448
      @mrprimenumbers6448 6 лет назад

Corwin D I agree, interesting but it doesn't solve anything and really makes it more time consuming and cumbersome. See one that hang just below and you grab an set on top an go.

come on Corwin D, tell him what you really think. I like the concept but I agree with some of Corwins thoughts. The execution is very smooth. Looking forward to other projects in your shop, thanks for sharing. Clean cuts and lots of dust.

I suppose it's practical..It also seems to be turning your drill press into fine furniture. Personally I just clamp scraps of wood to the press here, but my drill press is a scrooty dooty harbor freight model until the good drill press fairy drops by my place.
