I meet Kevin at are terminal in mechanicsburg it was nice to finally meet him it was great talking to you
👍👍👍😃🥰
Tips for delivering to Walmart. Google map your store. Look at front of store if you can and look for what side of the store says grocery. Also most of the time the GM side of the store is by the auto center. Most docks are marked GM or GRO. Those are the best tips I can give you.
👍👍👍Thanks!!!
Also, usually on single dock stores your trip sheet will say like “two inside docks for grocery, two outside for GM” or something like that. I’ve yet to do reefer, I’ve been doing dedicated out of Brookhaven for a while now but we only do GM and non refrigerated grocery
@@Diragonoman Thanks!!! 😃
I love how thorough you are. Hats off to you Kevin and I’m sure Tanja’s proud of your video. She taught you well!! 😂
😆😆😆👍🥰
That's one thing I love about when I go help Wal-Mart dedicated. I'm getting my groceries for the week while I get unloaded 😅😂
Love that!
Really enjoy Kevin’s point of view, I have been behind the wheel when I was younger but couldn’t call myself a trucker but am really fascinated with truckers and their job, thanks for all you and your fellow truckers do!
Thank you!!! Happy you ride with us!!!
Awesome how organized you are. My head was spinning. Keep up the good work and safe travels!
Thanks! ☺️

💞Thanks for watching!! We are happy to have you along with us, discovering the Roads of America and learning about trucking!!🚚🚚🚚
Required equipment back in my day hauling reefer would be a CB radio, Bearcat Police scanner and a great Birddog. I wonder how many of you know what a birddog is? All the best Kevin, stay safe Driver.
Flip flops and a bag of 💩 are the only requirements today.
Well today you got the elogs, mandatory since December 2017. You gotta be a Microsoft engineer to stay on the right side of that ×$%&!! thing. Hitler-on-the-dash.
Nope…we don’t know ‘bird dog.’
Hi folks, the Birddog or radar detector as it once was referenced was a definite asset in its time. All the best, stay safe.
I always look for you guys when I go see my daughter. I live in Indiana and our main interstate is I-65 so always looking for you. I used to drive flatbed for ROEHL Transport but I got out of the truck when my daughter was born. I miss it but I have a good career now with a great pension but I do plan on going back to it when I retire. Stay safe out there and watch your six. I enjoy your videos and always look for new ones keep them coming.
🥰🥰🥰
Enjoyed the video today. I like the way you plan everything out. Have a great day. 😊😊😊😊
Thank you! You too!
Great description. I stay at the destination or 1/2 way back for 8 then head back. If u send an accurate eta, they will preplan u. 34hrs is a long time to sit. That’s why I recap until I go on hometime somewhere. Also if I look at the overhead view on Google maps u can see where all the coolers are. That’ll give u an idea which dock is grocery. Lastly, after 3pm, generally I’ll call ahead or just walk around. The receiver doesn’t use ntransit as much as the shipper. Great Plains where the roads are straight and flat and traffic is minimal.
👍👍👍
Thank you for helping us out in North Platte, hope you like it and join us in the future. You’re definitely Walmart material! We mostly run GM in FL with the exception of Alachua
Thank you so much for your kind words!!!
walmart material. that's an insult. what a clown.
U should have went down to the north platte town there is a ton of food and shopping and a awesome park with buffalo and moose and others
Thanks for the tip!!! Maybe next time…
The loves is only 1 mile walk. And had bobtail parking. North Platte has a nice down town, just north of truck stop at exit 177. Or you can walk. 3 mile walk from loves to Walmart store on main Street. Several restaurants there.
North platt sucks when stuck there for days because of snow
👍👍👍🥶
Good info thanks for taking the time. It sounds like you may be doing the loads the Walmart fleet don't want, later runs etc.
😃👋👋👋
Awesome job
Thanks! 😃
Great video Sir it’s interesting 🫶🏻🇬🇧🫶🏻
🤩🤩🤩🤗
Drive safely .God bless you.
🙏🙏🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲

#Thejoyoftrucking… Excellent video as usually. Very informative! Thank You for sharing!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
glad everything turning out good for i don't mind them once in while you want a real adventure try Mankato in middle of winter when its -4 i just came to Crete national board 2 weeks ago from running a dedicated fleet on Shaffer side which was great for 1st 2 years then my drop hook loads turn out to be lot more live loads and unloads waiting at docks so i told them i wanted back on Crete national cause i was told when i sign up on the Shaffer dedicated account it be 80 to 90% drop and hook dealing with same customers well it was for 1st 2 years then it was everything from A to Z so i had enuf of grocery warehouses and came back to Crete national a lot less headache sure still have to deal with grocery warehouse on Crete but not everyday have nice day
Welcome back to the Crete side!!! 😆😆🤗We feel like live loads/unloads has been a bit higher recently too. We don’t like it! But we’re glad there’s consistent freight.
Let us know what you think about the Crete side!
PS. Think we’ll save Mankato for the summer or fall. 😁😁😁
Last time i helped out Cheyenne Walmart was back in March did Colorado springs, Rifle , Montana and both Dakotas
Snow in the Rockies and wind across I 25
Wish i could do that in the summer but Crete kept me northeast ever since March.
You can ask your asset manager if they could head you out west. It’s happened to us that sometimes they can fulfill a request like that. Good luck!
The showers at the Distribution terminals are nasty.
They seemed alright at this time…
I might suggest to you, that you change the name of the video to “hauling a reefer“ rather than “hauling reefer”. 😅. I enjoy your videos very much! Honest and down to earth, and I love the Canadian touch, and that Downeast accent!
😆😆😆😁😁😁👍
North Platte NE DC is the best DC for long runs. I have done Other DC locations and get a lot of 125-350 round trip loads. Also most runs are dock out 6pm to 1130pm. Not my thing
Thanks for that insight Randy!!!
When I saw you at Akron Love’s, I was a month in to being stuck on the east coast. It seems, once you cross the Mississippi River, you’re going to be on the east coast until you request to get back west haha. I’m not complaining and I am happy for the loads, but I am much happier driving west of the Mississippi as well
God morning glad to see you in joying the change
👍👍👍
Thanks Kevin. Don't know if you can video at Walmart? would like to see what those bulkheads look like. never seen one . Thank's
We’ll try and get that video sometime in the future…
Nice Video
👋👋👋👍
ReeferGang!
👍😁😆
Sound's like it's a pain but at least you are still getting good miles.
👋👋👋😃
Nice
So nice…😉🥰
Gilda Radner wrote a great book, "It's Always Something." See you're experiencing some of this on your current working road trip. 😂
😆😆😆😁
My son lives right off 120 st in Westminster we’ll be there for Halloween with the grandkids be safe.
Awesome!!! Have fun! 🎃👻
Hi Kevin and Tonya
👋👋👋
Love the Shaffer hat.
Does that mean you like pulling reefer?
When you are no longer wearing the Shaffer cap, we'll know what that means.
😆😆😆It means when Kevin did orientation they didn’t have any Crete hats and gave him a Shaffer hat. 😆😆😆
Sounds like alot needs tweaked. Apparently the warehouse gets the load info when you do. They should be 2 hours ahead.
😳😳😳
I did this same thing out of Johnstown NY. The problem I had with it is you are given the loads that Walmart drivers don't want. Multi-stops and runs to the congestive cities. I only took the job because I was told the runs would be in western NY, including PA. They lied, and I quit.
I've been watching "Joy Of Trucking" for over a year. Kevin & Tonya made one run to NYC back when he was driving for Werner.
I notice they haven't been back.
🤔You mean a job with Walmart? Or does Crete run a dedicated out of Johnstown, NY that we haven’t heard about? In North Platte and Cheyenne it didn’t seem to Kevin like he got loads Walmart drivers didn’t want. Just seemed like regular runs. Tell us more…
Glad you’ve been riding with us for a while. Two runs to NYC with Werner. One with Crete. Hopefully not again!!!
@@TheJoyofTrucking These jobs were with another company that had the contract and the same setup, with their own area with offices and a repair building at the Walmart Dist center.. not Walmart drivers or Crete. Yes, they are regular runs but runs not wanted by Walmart drivers.
@@roberth3094 Ahhhh…thanks for clearing that up! Sorry they lied to you and created a bad experience! Hope you found a better company and runs after that!!!
Sounds like a decent gig considering the way freight is now. Walmart is pretty organized which is a plus.
👍👍👍
With all due respect, enjoy while you can brother, Walmart is getting rid of outside carriers hauling for them
Have you ever experimented with split sleeper intervals and recapturing hours to avoid 30 hour resets and keep moving when you’re out there on your own?
With elogs, my understanding is a solo driver can split in the sleeper berth (line-2) one time; but after 11 hours driving you gotta go off-duty line-1 for 10 hours, period. 70 hours on-duty in 8 days is a 34 hour reset. Period. Even if you run out of hours halfway across the frigging George Washington Bridge.
That's the gubbermint you're dealing with. All common sense is down the toilet.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes. But Kevin prefers the reset day.
@@TheJoyofTrucking The trick is staying off the wrong bridge!
Happy Trails!
I was a great planner just like you. That is why I was pissed when the load had to be picked up as soon as they gave me the information. I need time to plan. The bonehead drivers just take their paper stuff and leave while blindly following their truck GPS. I am so happy to be working at an easy, good paying job now where I do not have to worry about parking, showering, and bonehead flip floppers.
👍👍👍🤩
Well, they certainly keep you moving don't they. I'm going to assume they don't like you to film, but it would be interesting to see the bulkheads in the refers. Never seen that before.
Camera woman wasn’t there. 😉 It would be interesting. Hopefully in the future we can get video of that.
Well Kevin, I’m sure you’re familiar with the term; Be Careful What You Wish For. Running back and forth up and down I-76 can be quite difficult to Stay Awake and quite Boring and quite challenging in adverse weather, It appears that account is for a Crete driver that lives in Colorado or Western Nebraska. Just Saying.
😆😆😆👍👍👍🥰
Also, did you keep your same cpm while on the walmart dedicated that you normally get OTR?
Yes. Last year for Cheyenne they paid an additional 3cpm. Also you get $15 stop pay.
Kevin: When you're running peddle loads for Walmart, do you get stop pay on top of miles?
In 1993 I was driving for Shaffer pulling reefer, of course. I caught a produce load out of California, 3 pickups; a farm outside of Fresno, one at Stockton, one north of Sacramento. Nine deliveries starting at Georgia, empty out at Maine. 3900 paid miles, 10 paid stops @$25 each. Grossed a little over $1900 in a week and a half; that's 1993 dollars. Finished my last pickup early Friday afternoon, made the run to Georgia mostly over the weekend, for first delivery Tuesday morning. Empty Saturday. You don't catch that kind of gravy every day.
But that stop pay sure made it worth it. Just wondering if you're getting that stop pay?
Wow!!! Sounds like a unicorn load. 😆😆😆 Stop pay, yes. But only $15. 2023 dollars. 🤦♀️
@@TheJoyofTrucking $15/stop? Hmmm...I wonder why nobody wants to pull reefer any more?
(You still wearing that Shaffer cap?)
@@OldBastardOnaHarley Yeah….that’s a bit low…as for the hat…yup…it’s the hat that he got at orientation because they didn’t have Crete hats. In the meantime he has a Crete hat but still likes this one. 😆😆😆
Walmart uses Ntranset. You put in the last 8 numbers on the BOL # they shouldnhave given you. That will show the digital BOL.
I run walmart grocery currently on the swift dedicated account in Utah.
Thanks for the tip!!!
pay rate?
Can you use personal conveyance to go to a Resturant near DC?
Yes. We think it’s possible. But not sure. Kevin prefers to walk anyway. 😆
😁 I hope they don't keep you there too long my friend it's good and easy work but winter is coming and with your skills they may try keep you there .and that would be s waist of your skill set and your millage will drop and your pay would suffer .and i would hate to see that happen. .Stay safe my friend see you again soon .🖐
Thanks for your insight and concern! And your kind words! One week was enough. Definitely prefer OTR. 😁
@@TheJoyofTrucking Ya I loved the open road .driving dedicated or local Is ok for some but seeing what comes next is like Christmas new people new sight's even on roads you may travel often things change ,For me it was the challenge of getting there on time especially as i was always oversize or heavy .So i understand about pre-planning the trip and staying organized .
Sorry if i asked this already. Can you use PC at Crete? If so, what are the restrictions?
You can... sparingly. They only want to see 30 minutes or so.
🎉❤
🤩🥰👋👋👋
Do you llike e-logs I'm trying to get on the road
Yes. We’re fine with elogs. Come on out. 😃
Are you making more money ?I don’t like reefer though that’s it. I really despise it or anything it’s just that I don’t mind it the way I do it every once in a while but I do it enough to understand that if it was like your regular thing, it’s just another way to catch downtime and downtime sucks
We prefer dry van. Reefers are another level of noise.
So if you make a mistake and ruin some food will you have to pay for it?
Good question. We don’t know. But…We doubt it. But I’m sure your job might be on thin ice…
Driver, in many cases, will give up a penny/mile to cover the deductible should a single pallet be compromised.
@@user-th1gs5hm1r Thank you for that insight!
First
🤗🥰🤩
Kevin should have stayed in college!!
Wal-Mart loads...low miles multiple stops!!! Low pay spend a lot of time docked!! Not worth it..
Not true we get 550 to 600 miles a day
@@ChapzinoTheDon that don't last!! No way.driving 27 years!! Did Wal-Mart dedicated!! 5years ...you must be new to. It!!! And what do you mean we??? Your not solo??? Well then your splitting your money!!! So fo 600 mill day you get 300 miles....thats no money.then you lease the truck! Fool.. someone who's been driving 5years or less ..dont tell me something I know it's wrong. Plus you can't even be on the road yourself!!!! Go away rookie.
We think it depends where you run. North Platte was good for miles.
@@TheJoyofTrucking that's because it's beef country going to the east coast...stay there during the winter with loads going to east coast...good luck with that!!
@@Davidjohnson-zd3bk 😆😆😆🥶Yeah…no thank you…
I did not know Walmart sold marijuana
😆😆😆😆😆😂🤣😂🤣
i'm 45 seconds in and have to stop. it hurts to listen to this. dude, you're describing the shittiest driving job besides hauling for dollar general or something like that. you're being pimped out to do walmart runs at bottom dollar. grab a reefer and hit as many stores as you can that day. i did it for 3 months about 5 years ago and i'll never do it again. you're not in the trucking business right now. you're in the training wheels stage. no matter what you think might be good about that, walk away and go drive a truck.
