      I was a driver for years and am even a million mile driver club member. When E- logs came I left. I would bet like real money if you did a real study on it that the hours of operations the rules have caused as many or more accidents than they prevent. For example....You drive a few hours to pick up your load but it takes 4 to 5 or 6 hours to load. Then you can't log it as sleep because one split sleeperbirth never works out but two, besides maybe they they told you to listen to the radio for your turn to back into the 400 dock doors at a Walmart or Costco distribution center. So now it goes against your total hours for the day. Now you finally get called to the doc but 4 hours later so you take a small nap and two hours later you are on the road again. Then you hit a huge traffic jam that takes several 3 to 4 hours or more to clear. Now just a few more miles down the road after you finally clear that you are out of hours and have to pull over. So you have to log off duty. But you set in the sleeper staring at the ceiling and can't sleep for 7 1/2 hours as you took a few hours nap waiting to get loaded. You finally go to sleep and 3 hours later the alarm goes off because your 10 is up. Now you have interrupted the Rem sleep, This is the most crucial part of sleep that really resets the brain. But you can't stay and sleep because your idiot dispatch has you delivering in 11 hours from now and it is a 10 hour drive. So you are now driving without a proper night's rest in order to make delivery.
      Driving a truck our sleep times are all over and dictated by the log book and not your body and it is really impossible to develop a pattern as it always changes. When what you could of did instead is after getting out of the hell traffic jam and then when your hours was up but not tired yet you could of drove another 6 or 7 hours until you was tired and took a 8 to 10 hour break and got some real and meaningful sleep and woke up and drove a few hours to make a delivery.
      See the problem is like everything the Government does the folks writing the laws have no experience in the field they are regulating. Just because a few idiot drivers want to run 20 hours a day on 3 hours of sleep they assume we all need baby setting and told what hours to work... I use to run two log books and could move my hours around so I could make money and still be safe. I never fell asleep at the wheel. When I seen E logs coming I decided to hang it up..
      Sorry to rant you seem like you get it and you hit a nerve so I thought I would let the want to be truck drivers know too.

      If you are in a commercial vehicle, a police officer can ask for an ID even from a passenger. Most trucking companies with also require a Letter of authorization for a passenger, in compliance with insurance contracts. However, even if none of this applies, why wouldn’t you comply with a request from a police officer. Be polite and help to make his job a little easier. Consider this, the policer does not know who your passenger really is. He/she may be an undesirable.

    People REALLY need to read the fine print on rider release forms. It varies by company but most company release forms state "Passenger must surrender this form and identification to a law enforcement officer if requested by said officer"
    The officer is well within his rights to ask for her ID as well as the authorization form.
    I had to show an Iowa cop my ID as well as the form back when i was 14 and riding with my dad, back in the day.
    I was a big kid and he asked to see my log book. I kept one as a training log.
    He looked through it, got a good laugh and sent us on our way.

I didn't see a mask or check for the insurance on the truck, and separately the insurance and registration for the trailer, which is usually kept on the trailer. If it's a Hazmat truck or trailer, then there would be additional inspection stickers and inspection form for each vessel. For instance my daily driver is a straight axle tanker with a tanker pup, so I would need the inspection paperwork and stickers for both the truck and the pup.

      This is far from harrassment. The specific job of a CMV law enforcement officer is to ensure Commercial vehicles and drivers are safe and legal to be on the road. If they do not do thier job, there is a potential for many lives to be lost when a truck crashes. When a truck crashes and kills someone, the driver may face criminal charges. So even though the driver may be a good person, if they do something or even don't do something and that action or lack of action can cost lives.

Companies know this and simply pay the State, and call it "The price of doing business.' This happened to me, and even though I am retired now, it still pisses me off that State Patrol and DOT officers get away with this s**t. In my younger days, I did inspections on Trucks & Trailers with my company. Each rig was inspected after each load if they were routed to our terminal. The owner operators hated me as I was very thorough with my inspections and it was time consuming especially if there were 8-10 rigs waiting in line at the safety lane. I have been threatened with being beaten & shot by a few drivers but I would smile and say safety first. I feel that I saved some lives with unsafe things that I found such as the steel belts showing through the inside walls of both steering tires on one truck. I showed this to the owner operator and he thanked me for saving his life. Once I found a broken 3 leaf spring that had work itself free of the u-bolts which could or would have fallen in the highway at anytime. I found several loose tandem wheels on trailers where the axle nuts had backed off which could have been catastrophic if the wheel had came off the axles in traffic?

      Problem is Mexico truckers are still allowed to drive 10 -20 miles into California depending the port of entry to a drop off point. Many of their trucks look like they're not safe to be on highways. Not sure about rest of border states. Some Mexico truckers are allowed further north if they pass inspections.

    Yall seem to be a very nice couple but as an owner and operator the validity of the stickers on both the truck and trailer is on the driver. • @keithmeddock1243
      @keithmeddock1243 Год назад

      The sticker for annual inspections is no longer required by FMCSA/DOT. And before anyone responds, look it up. The only requirement is that you have the inspection form in the cab card and the trailer should have a place for its paperwork. Stickers are not required. I'm not saying that a stop would go easier if it was there, but if a citation is written, it is reversible. That being said, if an out of date sticker is there, it would be wise to remove it altogether.

    • @Selfmade44
      @Selfmade44 Год назад +1

      @@keithmeddock1243 Right but the officer made it clear that either or was fine. This particular company don't keep the report in the units but if the sticker was stamped "July 22" then it was not out of date bc there is no expiration date on the stickers. They are stamped monthly and yearly. The only real way to get the exact day it expire is to have a report of the inspection inside the cab. Normally an officer will not ask for it if the month and year on the sticker is good. I keep my stickers inside my side door box where my fire extinguisher and triangles are located bc some drivers being dirty will peel off a sticker of a parked truck.

    Here in Canada, the annual inspection sticker is something the mechanic is supposed to attach to the truck it’s all tied back to his licence and the red dyed diesel here in Canada doesn’t have road tax on it, therefore it is significantly cheaper than regular diesel, it’s supposed to be used for off-road use only, such as heating a home, any sort of machinery etc.

      I shut down my trucking company in the early 1990s. They would literally shut my trucks down in Ohio for a marker light out. If you had brake drum that were dipping in some, they would measure the shoe thickness from the edge of the drum. Couldn't move the truck, always had to get a local shop to come to the scale house and change drums and shoes. I got pissed off once because they shut the trailer down. It was loaded with bales of trash out of Chicago, I think. I told my driver to drop the trailer and come home. I left the trailer sitting there for 3 days. They'll called and said come get it, no hold. When my driver got there and hooked up he said there was a cloud of flies around the trailer. But I bet theses days they'd call in a hazmat team to remove it.
