As a fellow veteran, I understand where you are coming from. As I have gotten older, I have realized that we in fact do not own our land, we only rent it from the local government. When someone can take something from us because we cannot pay what they tell us to, we do not own that thing. Our Founding Fathers understood that property was a way to create wealth and liberty. We as a society have strayed far from what we are supposed to be. We are now working nearly 6 months or more per year just to pay some form of taxes. We are not free, we have the illusion of freedom.
@gregstump8397 > we do not own that thing. You are right, and I agree completely. Its also listed as one of the pillars of communism in Marx/Engels Communist Manifesto. If you look at society today using that Manifesto as a checklist 7-8 out of 10 pillars have been implemented and degraded systems are the result. At one point people did have that right, but it was changed gradually following a Fabian based strategy. Its closer to a turnkey-tyranny than its ever been before.
It seems funny to me that the War Of Independence was fought because of high taxes . Now here we are with high tax systems and over regulated lives , soon we will asked to get a permit to pee ? The police are not regulated correctly, there are too many police departments over the country with no oversight, doing whatever they want because “it’s right , I say it is so it’s right “ attitude. I could go on for hours , here in UK the police are regulated from the Home Office and we have independently appointed police commissioners , sometimes it is not perfect but we don’t have the problem with rogue police officers doing their own thing (well not very often )
@@gandalf2439 Your sentiment is understandable but it was less about taxes and more about the other intolerable acts that were regularly inflicted, coercion, lack of means to earn a living for oneself or ones children, complete lack of any due process or representation for those victimized. Private property seized... quite a long list, which have the same corollaries today. Really, the taxes and the civilian deaths caused by the soldiers during the early protests of the time were just the straw that broke the camel's back.
My parents had put up a shed on their property, it was under the size required for a permit and followed set backs. A neighbor across the street complained that it "blocked their view of the lake" and my parents were forced to take the shed down. The people could have bought on the lake, but chose not to. They still had a view of the lake, it just wasn't as much as without the shed. So, my dad took his old trailer, put sides and a roof on it and parked it where the shed was. It is the same size as the shed but is on wheels. The county can't do anything about it.
I am in NC and have been a police officer for 29 years. I have a small cow farm in 2 counties. What I have learned over the years is that building codes are different from county to county and you really don't have the freedom to do what you want to do on your own land. The county owns your land and they decided what you can do. Taxes is like paying rent. If you don't pay your taxes they will take it. That being said, I have tried to do a few things and some counties tell me that it's not zoned for that. You have to get a permit for everything now. We, the people, are over taxed and over regulated. There are to many laws on the books and most laws are written by the insurance companies. Our freedoms are slipping away.
Hey many people leave states for other states because of taxes etc.. You can change the system or move. Leave the country if you don't like it. Thanks for the attack comment.@oodmcadams5604
I'm in NC and leaving this police state soon. I am pleased to read your post. In dark times it is good to know there are still a few good police officers out there.
Im in Oregon, my place burned down in the Holiday Farm wildfire. I had about 6500 square feet in buildings, lodge and six cabins. One cabin survived, although damaged, I rebuilt the lodge at 4000 square feet feet. I used to pay 3950 property tax and have to pay now 7200 bucks. No senator or other stakeholder responded . So much for our county to yelp you recover from a huge loss.
Being that to your local news outlet's attention. Amazing how the govt tries to pop in every 3 months with their paid employees to make sure we're doing the "right" regulated, controlled thing (when we are & haven't done otherwise), but when THEY do the wrong thing & get your money out of it, then all of a sudden they're "understaffed" or "so busy", or go completely radio silent & do as much as they can to avoid addressing the situation. It's sickening how much money they take from our people & then fork over billions to millions of illegals & to corrupt ukranian officials.
I'm retired Air Force and just turned 65, as such, I had to go get my INDEF ID card. I went to the Naval Station in Everett WA. I saw a lot of civilians and only about 10 people in uniform. At least four of the 10 were grossly overweight! Three women with butts wider than any chair in the whole building and one guy that was just plain fat! Our military is a joke, there is simply no way those four people could pass a fitness test, none at all.
“One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.”- Thomas Sowell
And yet Sowell is a hardcore libertarian who thinks even the Republicans want too much regulation on business! We're just supposed to trust them! Make it make sense.
Very well placed quote. A man brought a gun directly to the front door of his home. Presence is the foundation of force. Meaning the clown in a cop costume went straight uo in his personal space, in front of his wife & kids (maybe) and he made sure he saw his gun. If orders are not followed, the punishment is up to and including death. (he literally trains for the death outcome) Then he begins the video with statements of love, respect & trust for such clowns in costumes. I guess when you pee yourself in front of your family and allow evil to have its way upon you and your family in the security of the home... If a man shows up on your porch with a gun to talk to as a friend, you tell him to leave and come back as a friend without his gun. Friends don't have conversations where if you don't say and do it right, they kill you. Well your quote, in my opinion, says a lot. A read & reread quote.
We as individuals are completely over regulated. I live in rural Texas and we have no permitting for anything built outside of the city limits. Recently the commissioners voted in a permitting process to build anything, even a fence. The outrage that came out of the people from the county was so overwhelming that at the very next commissioners court meeting they overturned the rule and one of the commissioners resigned. The point of this is to say that local elections matter so get out there and speak. Thank you for the video.
Because it's about generating revenue into the commissioners pocket or State as they claim. aka Robbing You as a Texan more out of your pocket. It's like self incriminating yourself psychology.
You are 100% correct. The local level is the MOST important part of elections and where we need to get back too. The local level controls everything and then goes up. That is the only way to start reversing the issues we have, even at the federal level.
It's always all about money. Hey I know let's make it a priority that someone needs to apply for a permit if adding and building anything to their property. Just another way for the government to make more income. Does no good to get your undies in a bunch because we know the governments always right!!!
on the right track, but not to forget the 20,000 + oppressive gun laws on the books, ALSO I L L I G A L and U N C O S T' L . the govt was never given one iota of authority/responsibility to regulate fire arms or tell americans if / when /under what conditions/how many and what kind of guns we can have. and the 4473 forms is just registration in thru the back door. they have no right to do backgrounds on us ..... what they do have authority on is crime and crime prevention, but they are not doing that. WHY IS THAT ?? as long as they can blame eberything on guns, they do not have to do their job selah
Our government is the liars and cheaters and thieves. The have no right to come on land you already payed for and taxed on, then continue to pay even more taxes EVERY YEAR EVEN AFTER YOU DIE. THEN YOUR FAMILY IS TAXED ON THAT TAXED LAND JUST FOR IT TO BE GIVEN TO THEM UPON YOUR DEATH. It's sad and disheartening that this is what our counties allow in order to make money and their salaries higher.
Setting aside your highly dubious assertion, how do you propose funding local fire and police departments? Or the roads and schools in your town? Do you really want to buy or rent a house that has undergone no permitting inspections?
@@billschillerstrom583do you really think all that tax money goes to fire, police, roads and schools? You'd be surprised how much of it gets misappropriated.
I'm in PA. Lackawanna county. I tried to build an 8'X10' greenhouse with a wooden frame and plastic. The code officer wanted to charge me 92.00 for a permit. I told him that I'd take a chainsaw to it before I'd pay him a penny. I put deer fencing on it and a planter on both sides and planted morning glory's and told him that now it's a trellis and a permit isn't required for a trellis. He said that he had to check into that. Three years later he was still checking. I wonder if my statement about where the money goes and maybe the state should do an audit made him think twice?
You live in a valley, next to olyphant and brick city? My grandparents are from Jessup. I remember a drug store, candy store, bank. I looked on Google Earth and it looks like the only thing left are the church and cemeteries. I liked all the home bars in Jessup, when I visited. People just made bars on their homes in residential neighborhoods.
I think you nailed it when you said we're a society of cheaters and liars. It doesn't matter where you look, our society is filled with them starting at the highest levels of government and continues right down the line. Unfortunately, people like you and I that always try and do the right thing isn't the general sentiment these days.
Ironically the very people that Josh is trying to appease are the liars and cheats, direct taxation is unlawful, straight stealing, provable fraud. doing the right thing in this situation means making the County accountable for their wrong actions!
Doing the right thing simply because it is best, makes the wrong doer look bad and puts them at risk of being exposed. They will not tolerate that. They will lie manipulate and destroy your good to keep their bad from being seen. Ping the right thing is difficult. It requires you to operate within the specifics of said task. Others just show up for a check and get anything else they can for free. The sad thing is they are protected. How? The laws that are passed for their benefit. You know them like I do. Any way keep doing right you never have to apologize until a$$&@!es cry offense because you made their s*•t look bad.
Fellow Vet here also living in NC. I bought a property (a few acres) a few years ago, the property had 2 homes on it (one built back in the 80's) and a good sized stand alone garage. There was a trailer on another part of my property where the garage was that had been removed before I bought the property, however I still have a septic and separate electric meter there that was for the trailer and garage. The older home from the 80's had an attached garage as part of it's footprint. When I decided to make repairs/improvements to the small house I was told that I could not use it as a 2nd home nor could I change the footprint of the structure. Keep in mind that this small home also has it's own septic system but it's powered by the main house (not sure why they did that but it is what it is) They had passed a law in my county that said you can have only one permanent dwelling on your property(no matter the size of the property), but my small 2nd home was grandfathered in because it was an existing home when I bought it. However, I was greatly restricted on what I could do with it....even to the point of repairs to it. Nearly every contractor I hired for repairs asked me why I was even talking to the county, they said they make trouble for everyone. Nearly ever single one of them said most people don't even tell the county what their doing and they don't ask for their permission because of all the trouble and grief they cause. So now my small home is just sitting there half finished being used for storage because of the county regulations. To be able to use this home as a residence (for example- an in-law suite/house) I would have to subdivide the lot, change the electric so that it has it's own meter and many other things besides....It is frustrating that some government office, who doesn't live on my land, has any authority to tell me what I can and cannot do on MY land. Especially in homes that have been there for over 40 years. I feel your pain. Thanks for serving brother!
This is the best comment I've seen., don't ask the county first...do what you want and because it was all bought and you keeping with the same footprint, they should not be able to do anything. They can't see a lot of what we do anyway. That said, I'll just do research on county rules and regs, and not call them and ask anything. Every form of government, and insurance companies and medical, law, everything, just out to make a buck off the people. But we do have to remember, no matter what, our property isn't ours, it sucks, but it's true. Thousands of ways it can be taken. So I choose to just do like the Stoney Ridge guy did, try to do right, call em on it, but just enjoy it while we can. Don't let their crap... crap on our days! Im also retired AF. And homeowner.
Yes, they will go after you if you do the right thing and get as much money 💰 out of you as they can. If you don't tell them you are good. They do this so they don't have to actually go out and do their own footwork. They permit you to death. I had them take any chance of me ever having a cent left to save. I live in washington state
Part of a police state is having so many unnecessary laws that everyone is in some violation. Then if you cause trouble, they enforce some violation. Keeps you quite doesn't it?
A beuracratic city officer kept calling us that our yard was called in (anonymously) by a neighbor as having 'clutter' and threatened us with misdemeanor criminal charges if not cleaned up. I thought it was a mistake as our yard was pretty well cared for but my wife (pregnant at that time) is terrified of authority and immediately went out to make sure it was pristine (in late pregnancy). Fast forward a few weeks and we get another notice that we were about to be cited for failure to comply. This was ridiculous and we called to say they had the wrong property. They were pretty condescending and said they definitely had the right property. We had to make a few more phone calls and invited authorities each time to come out and inspect the property themselves (seemed an appropriate ask when being threatened with criminal charges site unseen but there was incredible resistance and condescension from city authorities). When they FINALLY came out to inspect the property they immediately found it was the wrong address and gave a weak apology (and also found no 'clutter'). Government beuracrats can be very lazy and power drunk. Don't get railroaded as many of them don't care.
Those are the laws that are created without your knowledge or are distracted by other laws that they say are a benefit to you.... it`s called ` slight of hand ` a common tactic of con artists.
Tell you get yourself in the middle of someone else mess and they didn't follow the rules and then it cost you a bunch of $$$$. Then the ones sings no government control will be crying why wasn't it inspected. I know contractors in my area that can walk in and get a permit in 10 minutes and i also know contractor it take them weeks to get a permit all because they tried to pull shit with the building department in the pass.

My professional licensing board in my state tried to strip me of my professional license over a mistake they made. (They put the wrong due date for a form on what they mailed to me) I would have lost my business, my home, and probably my family. It was retaliatory in nature and I almost took my life because of it when things looked the darkest. I finally got it in circuit court before a judge and he basically laughed them out of the courtroom and ruled in my favor. Was this the end of it? Of course not. They couldn't be embarrassed like that and they thought I would be running out of money to fight it so it went on appeal to the state Supreme Court....where I also won. All in all it cost the taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars, it cost me $100,000+ and I almost ended it all because they were essentially ending my life as I knew it. The government is horrible at every level.
You should absolutely be able to sue them to recoup your losses based on their mistake. So messed up. Glad you won, all the fights including the most important one!
Oh, it’s so sad when other peoples’ mistakes go so far as to make you think of doing something so tragic! I’m glad you didn’t. And don’t! Live to be a stubborn old cuss and be a thorn in their toe!
I’m in Washington Co. Utah. My father won a bid to cut logs from/on Cedar Mountain (Iron Co. Utah) He cut the logs, then bought a mobile saw mill. This was in 1984. He built his house. He was newly retired at that time. In 1996 the house caught on fire up stares. Grandchildren with matches. The roof was severely damaged, the water from the firefighting severely damaged the floor up stairs/ ceiling for downstairs. The city inspector came over and told him he couldn’t repair the roof and ceiling/floor because the two by fours hadn’t been inspected. My dad knew an inspector and talked to him about it. The inspector said he could only inspect wood that came through the plant. The mayor told the inspector the roof could be replaced. When we did the log cutting, building your own home was legal. The laws changed by the time of the fire. We decided a lot of laws are for control, and for job security for specialization. When passing laws, it would be awesome for 5 laws to be taken off the books. More laws, less freedom.
Building departments should have one role. Public safety. The person that reported you for nothing should face criminal charges or at least be open to a civil suit.
Hi gadarn. I absolutely understand your desire not to paint the people "just doing their jobs" as bad people, but at some point the folks doing their jobs and making up the machine have to take responsibility for being part of the machine. I think you're awesome and completely honorable for your attitude about doing the right thing. The sad part is you're the one being hurt by that while the folks doing things under the table and gaming the system get a pass.

Every tyranny has also said they're "just doing their jobs". Keep that in mind. Now question what that job is and you'll find it's 99% revenue just like the old British tax agents.
I wish this were true in America, as it should be. But after you pay the tax on what you earn, and pay the tax on what you buy with that already taxed income, say a farm shop, then try not paying the taxes to own what you bought with your already double taxed money and you will quickly find out who the true owner of your property is. Our tax structure in America is truly disgusting.

If you think that being triple taxed on your money and told how you should live though, I can think of several countires where you might feel at home. I would offer to pay your moving expenses, but alas, I can not afford the taxes!
I have read about the incorporation that happened in late 1800’s. but also read it is currently expired. No one wants to update because it will bring it to everyone’s attention that We don’t own anything? Another issue is changes made to UCC codes. This manipulation concerns collateral. If your property has ever been held as collateral, even if you own it, the manipulators can take your property. Sorry I don’t have more specifics but something to look out for. We are moving toward 2030 agenda where we won’t own anything.

It's all about control! They are notorious for trying to find something that isn't up to code, and when they don't/can't find it they will make something up to make you jump through hoops and still keep coming after you. I did stuff without permits for years, but all it takes is one person to turn you in. When you're investing $1000's into something can't afford to be in violation with the local Government once they latch on to you no way to fight them. @@StoneyRidgeFarmer and mauryanderson, county agents are operating outside the jurisdiction of the legal system, it is provable fact, first you must understand what entity the legal system has jurisdiction over, who the legal rules are written for, and why the language they use constitutes fraud. What they will tell you is they just follow the statutes and laws set forth by the State, unfortunately those statutes don't give them jurisdiction over a Man, that is a wrongful assumption they make!, hence why they commit fraud. Cheers
I would put up for consideration that the "bad actors" conduct, EVEN if it put's people at risk, doesn't necessarily warrant laws and red tape. While on one hand I'm persuadable to the rights of each community and state to create their own regulations, to have reasonable ones, I'm also otherwise very much libertarian leaning. Basically, desiring of the max freedom and protection of each of our' rights as described in our nation's founding, and the fact that our rights don't end where other's fears or even reasonably concerns for their safety on my land, begins. For ex. , I think instead of enforced building codes for private property, there should be a voluntary system of such, with certificates those who seek them, can obtain. That if you want to ensure you don't enter a building that's not certified, you look for the little plaque that could be, say, by each entrance of a certified structure, and avoid entering or standing near it, if it doesn't have one. The exceptions could be very tall things that would land on the neighbor's property if it fell, or things with moving parts up in the air, like a windmill, or that catch wind, like a sail. But, draw the lines back further, making risks ( which we are free to not enter into) no longer crimes, and putting the responsibility back on the people - for a free, sovereign people as the US denizens are supposed to be, that's where it needs to correspondingly be - . Raw milk, building codes, lots of things fall into this. Joel Salatin wrote back in the 1st year or so of his blog about this topic, giving a lot of comparison stats between us and Mexico. in Mexico's favor.

That being said, I am under the impression that permits are not in place to protect you, as the homeowner and initial builder of the home/building, but to ensure the next homeowner that the building was built within code, and insures that the building will be safe for occupancy to any subsequent homeowner. I believe there are at least 40 different inspections during a new home construction near me, that is made by and signed off by a building inspector, to make sure the contractors are following current codes. I'm not so sure you are paying for "authorization" to build on your lot, as much as the Permit fees are generally used to pay for the code enforcement official to perform his job, Engineers/Architects to review your plans with the County, and insure they are up to code specs. Like Maury mentioned, bad actors are what causes good people to pay extra (permits/fees, etc.) when building a home/building.
I'm a vet as well. I have always believed that if it's your property you paid for you have the right to do so as long as it doesn't put anyone's life at risk. I also don't believe we should have to pay taxes every year on property we paid taxes on when it was purchased. On that note we don't pay taxes on food we purchased last year. I have no problem paying a tax upon purchase but to be made to pay continuously is insane. Also your property taxes shouldn't go up just because someone says your property value is more. Property taxes should be set when purchased. When property is sold then the tax evaluation may change for the purchaser. But all that being said, it's all theft just like insurance.
I just saw a news video about there being a bill about to be voted on or passed (something or another anyway) in Georgia to cap properly taxes and not allow increases just because property values increase. Let’s hope that bill passes since other states are likely to follow suit.
Consider that higher property values oy help the realtor and tax accessor, unless you sell and leave the area.Your house won't be any nicer if its valued at 500k than st 50k.
you really believe what you wrote? taxes are assessed on property you purchased 20 years ago? how do figure this? Ok....don't pay taxes on your land and...even if it was "gifted to you and see what happens. its called a TAX Lien...the government will Seize your property, throw you off your land and sell your property at auction.
what you believe is called ignorance of the Law. what You believe is the mess this country is in right now...believing what you believe and what others believe - Is not the Law, instead of consulting an Attorney or Performing rudimentary case law to support your "beliefs"
I am with you 200%. Gov't is way too invasive to honest citizens & way too soft on criminals. Being nice doesn't excuse officals from making errors- do we get to deduct from their paychecks when THEY SCREW UP?? It has become tyranical all the way down to the local level. Nobody can be held responsible. Hope you & yours have a very good Christmas. Thank you for YOUR SERVICE.
IT ALL begins Locally. We all need to get more involved in our local community. Attend meetings and also keep an eye on the local school board. Many people think if they don't have children in the school system they don't need to worry about it, but who is going to buy your home in a bad School District. WE need to remember that WE OWN THIS COUNTRY. Our Ancestors worked hard to build this beautiful Country and so have We. WE are MANY, THEY are FEW. Some people are just plain power hungry and We need to stick together and STAND UP for OUR RIGHTS. My husband also served in the military. He was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and he is a Combat Veteran in the ARMY. I am so sorry for what you have been through. It's not right in a Free Country, especially for those of Our Fellow Countrymen who fought for Our Freedom and some GAVE ALL for that Freedom. Much love and prayers and support from the Appalachian Mountains in South Central Pennsylvania, Somerset Pa USA ❤️😮🤬😳😟🤔
As a retired Firefighter/Paramedic I understand your pain. I spent 25 years saving lives in a community where I was born and raised. I have lived with these people. Their job is to preserve their job first of all! I too got plenty of crap from the building commission that ended up costing me an additional $13,000 to complete my building! JUST BECAUSE THEY COULD!!!
Agree, those that "serve" serve themselves first, then if they have time, they will serve or harm the community. Every elected job should have term limits as they soon get lazy and power hungry.
You had the right to move ahead with the project if you stayed within their regulations. If those regulations give them the lleanacy of charging an undisclosed amount? You were able to start project? And then more fees were amassed by county is what I read. That is organized crime. From said point that $13,000 were needing paid against the permit to finish? Clear as crystal. This is what mafia does if you build improvements in their territory. Soo your private land is not priviate.. because they increased fees to point you would have to "be in the human trafficking or drug biz business to cough up ?....$13,000 to the county to IMPROVE you land. Paying for permission is all that is there, here in my county or anywhere they do that taxation in the unitedstates of administration.
Rural Georgia -- We are definitely being overregulated in my area with recent changes putting us in the same building category as the Atlanta Metro arena. Residents used to be able to build any sized home; now they've specified a minimum square footage and the lot must be at least six acres. Young people can't afford to purchase or build where they grew up. It's absurd. Residents responded by voting two council members out of office and the remaining three may be in jeopardy.
God bless you, around here all the boomers want house prices to rise to infinity with no regard for the younger folk, they do everything the cant to increase the cost to build. Now it's like $40k in fees to get a permit plus another $30k to get utilities dropped int and they want four achar minimum lot sizes with huge set backs. Buying a lot and paying the fees is like $400k before you even build a home. Meanwhile all the boomers voting for this crap are living in houses build on quarter acer lots, they think all the fields need to stay fields forever and no one is allowed to build anything other than a mansion because they think that will rase their home values. It's despicable. Luckily my state passed a state law saying you could build a second home on a lot and share all the utilities and the local government cant stop you, so I'm building my house on my parents property.
@@DanMcD80 You are an elitist snob who thinks people who are less fortunate than your self should not be able to afford to live near you. I cant afford to live in the area I grew up in because of pricks like you.
I'm a disabled veteran and a retired Police Officer. I live in a town in Kansas. My house sits on 3 lots. I wanted to build a garage/shop on the back lot. You would have thought that I wanted to open a sewage pit or something. I tried doing everything the right way. Instead of using a platted road right-of-way to get to my new shop, they wanted me to pour a 180' long concrete driveway with a 25 degree incline from the front of my house to the shop. No way would I be able to get my truck and trailer up that. I explained that according to their own code that would be in violation. They then said that I could not use the platted road unless it was built, or I had a "special use permit". I pointed out to them that there was a fire hydrant at the corner of my rear lot. I asked them how a fire truck could get to it then. I've seen fire trucks pull behind my home to that hydrant to "test" it. After 6 months of back and forth, I got my City Council to actually come out and look at my property. The finally grew a pair and over-rode the Code Enforcement minions and issued me a "Special Use Permit". It requires that I maintain the easement and keep it open to Public Utilities and City Vehicles. I had to put down a road base and gravel before I could get my building permits.

I had to ask the county and township for permission to put in a pond. I had neighbors tell me that I couldn’t plant trees where I wanted on my own property. I had a new neighbor come down to my house and demand to see my ponds. I did this like you. I followed every regulation. I had to obtain a mining permit to dig a pond. An hour after I told the new neighbor to get off my property, the cops were at my door with a complaint against me. I nicely explained what happened and if they had any questions, all my designs were filed with the township and county. Most of my neighbors thanked me for putting in the ponds because they hold back the water in the spring and nobody’s home has flooded in 10 years. I want to be left alone. I also served in the Air Force and my son is a Marine. Thank you for serving!
That's all we Veterans really want.....we just want to be left alone. We are less than 2% of the population that actually has done more for our country than the other 98%. Yes, we volunteered and we served because we wanted to. That was our choice and our choice now is to just live the rest of our lives in Peace and left alone! Hooah!
If and WHEN we don't have WATER OR ELECTRICITY because Russia or Iran takes out our GRID, when THAT neighbor comes down for some WATER from your POND to FLUSH HER TOILETS, TELL HER NO!
This is the problem with those cops. They get a complaint and come in person to harass you. A real investigation would be check for permits and inspections on file. If all is legit, tell the complaining party that you had permits and inspections for all the work. The end. The cops would never even has to step foot on your property or contact you.
We bought our house many years ago. The guy who originally owned it built a shed - about 6' x 10' - on a concrete pad. When we were landscaping we called to have the gas and water lines marked. The shed was built over the gas line. The city people sent us a notice for us to remove the shed. Apparently it had not been permitted. Good for him. I didn't care. We responded to the city that it had been inspected prior to us buying it so it is now grandfathered. They had no choice but to agree. It helps to have good lawyers on my client list. One of our arguments was that if there was a gas line problem, we could just put in a new gas line that routes away from the shed. Why they originally approved to have water, gas, and electric going in three different directions is beyond me, but this is the silly, stupid system that we have here, and it make life more interesting.
Almost the exact same thing happened to us. We were investigated by code enforcement after we put electric in a three car garage/workshop. This is six months after it was inspected. Then we put solar panels on it and the electric company had to approve it. We had all the permits and paperwork, but it was infuriating to have to pull it all out & prove it when they should have it already. We are over regulated in my opinion.
The electric company should never have a say in your private property, I get to an extent the government enforcing a minimum safety code. The only reason I am understanding of this is because idiots build stuff all the time and do poor work and it gets covered up by drywall.
@williammitchell8247 My solar was installed and we waited weeks for it FPL (Florida Power & Light) to come out and approve it. You're right it shouldn't be like this.
Just the opposite took place with my project.I wanted my power pole and meter street side as to keep the meter readers from entering the property. The power company agreed and I wanted two power poles with service to each power pole one pole for the house and one for the water well.Power company agreed .The county said you can't have two power poles serving your property. The power company and I told the county that the business I have with the power company is between us and not the counties business. The permits where issued with the power company advising the county that they would file a law suit about this, so the county did not want to set a presendent. The common sense reason for two poles was if a fire where to happen and we had to shut off power we would still have power to the well and water to help suppress the fire.@@williammitchell8247
It's more than likely not just "distrust", it's jealousy. Someone reported you because you have a beautiful new building and they just couldn't stand it. It's really sad. This is the first time I've heard of you or seen your channel, and I'm really happy for you. What an awesome building that is.
If it is jealousy, all the more reason to shrug it off your shoulders, and let that be the end of it. How can you let other people’s jealousy affect you? It surtenly makes for a busy life filled with grievances. I would not recommend it.
Over regulated??... you sound tRumpish!!.. I bet you wish you could just go out and dump your trucks oil right into the local river because the government charges to much at the free parts supply store where oil recycling is free!!..
@@mattypants we are not allowed to do anything in this our city approves of it there’s more red tape in government that’s why it takes so long to get anything done
I’m in Washington state (Clark County) and your story is exactly my story (with exception to being a RUclips creator). I built my house with my own hands and inspected all the way through (with great and helpful inspectors). When I went to build my 24x40 shop it was a nightmare. Our farm is an hour from the code enforcement office and I had to make over a half a dozen trips down there to fix their internal bureaucratic mistakes. Like you said, all good people but the right hand didn’t know what the left hand was doing and at the end of the day it cost me an additional $2500 on my permitting process than it should have. What was so frustrating is everyone (friends and family) told me I should’ve just left the county out of it and told them it was an ag building and not let them on my property, but like you, I just wanted everything to be done right and to code, and by doing so, I felt like the county, and the bureaucracy took advantage of me and delayed my project as well as cost me thousands extra
I live in Washington in Jefferson county, i have built many AG exempt buildings no one ever bothers me. What did you have to fix? all you should have done is gone down there and said your building an ag building and leave. All you are required to do is build it to code. no inspections required.
Perfect example of why small government (very Small) is best for citizens. It costs us less in taxes, payrolls, unnecessary regulations , pensions& healthcare ( better than ours by the way) and so. Government departments have to justify their existence and most are so departmentalized they fail in achieving their original purpose then seek additional funding because the work is backing up! It BS at best!
@@TomBTerrific The problem in @billdoglas's case probably was too small government.... Lack of resources means no expertise, which in turn means that everyone has to constantly look up rules and "figure out what should be done".....
This is a very sad situation, and government is sticking its nose way to far into our lives, and it needs to stop. I really feel sorry for you, as a two tour Viet Nam veteran myself , I feel you have earned the right to do just what you are doing, and doing it completely within the county rules, but somebody is jealous of you and what you have so they are going to try to make your life difficult. I do not know the county rules where I live, I am in a non farming type area, so I assume the rules are vastly different here. I wish you the best, and I do enjoy the channel very much Hopefully some of the other viewers will have the insight to help and answer your questions.
Josh unfortunately I think its because you put yourself out there with your channel! 80% of us appreciate your hard work and transparency, and enjoy your videos for both entertainment and education, but there are always people who do nothiung but try to bring it all down. Jealousy, envy you know what I'm getting at. Keep at it. Remember no one, and I mean no one, is born with a thick skin (its a learned skill - you're learning!) your sensitivity is what makes you and Stony Ridge farm special. Onward and upward, the nay sayers are looking at your back as you mobe forward and they stay ignorant!
Josh, you are 💯% correct! I would have steam coming out of my ears too! A number of years ago, the legislative branch of my city passed an ordinance saying that all rental properties will be inspected by the city every three years. They came knocking at my door, and said they were coming in to inspect the rental property. I unequivocally said no you're not. Not without a warrant or court order.and probable cause. They said it's a new city ordinance. I said it's unconstitutional. Violation of my Fourth Amendment, illegal search and seizure. Never heard from them again.
@@johnoswald6192 Sadly, our citizens don't know their rights anymore. This is a dangerous time, when government bodies start taking advantage of ignorance.
The reason for those type inspections are because of slum lords, plain and simple. I have seen rentals that where not fit to have people in them and it was the elerderly, in a couple of these places, that had little choice in where they were at. The landlord, living three states away, was receiving a check every month so they didn't care. Wasn't until the checks stopped that it matters.
@@charleswise5570 people aren't educated about law on purpose, 14th amendment says " and subject to the jurisdiction thereof " ... from blacks law dictionary , "subject to" can be synonymous with slave. I choose not to identify as citizen . It's all in the words, let's learn some legalese.
Every one of our municipalities are being bought out by dark factions. The ordinances are not laws that apply to individuals and their private property. They are for entities as described in law as “persons” not men an women. Look into it. Purchase a measly book that contains code pertaining to property in your state. You will find exactly what I am talking about. While you go about your business inviting these code idiots in, they are trained to look into all kinds of other “ordinances” which are not laws that pertain to you on your private property. You’d be surprised at what they can find inside a wholesome law abiding ignorant persons home. The ordinances, infractions and fees are getting more and more ridiculous by the day. Did you also follow and comply to the covey show ordinances and mandates, which were proclaimed to be law by your local health dept? Kind of sounds like you may have. There are a few federal judges left that have not crossed over to the dark side and some of our federal courts ARE still working and honoring their oaths and duties. But the state courts are gone. And you likely have no idea how terribly corrupt the municipalities have become. Sadly, for most, when they learn that what I’ve just said is actually true, it will be too late. They will have lost everything.
Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. I think what you do on your own land is your business if you're not causing an issue for your neighbors (risk of fire, flooding etc). Hope all this has been cleared up. God bless you and your family.
Josh I had a somewhat similar experience with my local town, when I say similar, I mean, I tried to be proactive and do things right. I was going to replace my backyard privacy fence, doing it myself taking 1 section at a time. I made appointment with building inspector, sit down with him after I paid to have my property surveyed so I would know exactly where my property lines were. I told him of my plan and wanted to know how much the building permit was, I provided a copy of the survey and told him that I was going to move it back 3 feet as is was 8 feet off my back property line, his response was, I do not need a permit if I am replacing an existing fence and moving it should not be an issues. So I thought ok, step 1 down and now I called line locate to mark lines as I am trying to be the model citizen and abide by the rules, they come out locate lines now I feel I have done my due diligence and can begin. I run my straight line across the back and start digging my holes for fence posts, set them, wait about a week to do next step as I was doing this on weekend, all the time all city vehicle and personnel could see the work. I then run my stringers and then begin putting my boards up, do the shadow box effect, from time I set my post until time I completed was about a month, 2 weeks after completion I get a call from building inspector, yep you guessed it, he said I had to move fence as it had to be 8’ from property line, I reminded him of our conversation at first he tried to deny until I told him I recorded it, but he still didn’t back down on his request, so I requested to be put on the next city council meeting and it was granted. I presented my case and explained I was never trying to violate any codes and followed the best of my knowledge the right way to do things, the mayor asked the assistant as the main building inspector happen to be sick about the situation, the assist informed the mayor that my fence was not the only one that was less than 8’ from line, mayor requested survey, concluded about 8-10 fences would have to be moved. I was informed if they ever have to dig up sewer lines my fence may have to come down if they cannot get their equipment back there and Informed them, I drove down behind there wit an F250 super duty ford truck. One final note the city attorney took a jab at me that I should have known I needed to be 8’ in on property line, my response was simply this, “with all do respect to mayor and council, as a citizen I come to an official you hired to keep me straight and in line as far as building, I set down meet with that official, I offer to pay for a permit, I am informed there is no need and it is not a problem to move the fence, I interpret that as I am good to go and would gladly play the recording for everyone to hear if they would like. It was quite and they declined the playing of the recording. The building inspector retired a month later. Baldwin County Alabama
You didn't mention it, but most likely there was a sewer utility easement, typically 20' either side of the sewer line. These easements show up on the engineering plans, and should also be visible on the GIS that Planning & Zoning and Code Enforcement have available to them. I was Assistant City Engineer in my local town and worked with the City Attorney on clarifying these exact issues for land owners. Good for you standing up to your City Attorney. His comment should have been directed at city staff instead of you.
When we were going to move onto our property in KY, I went to some office in the county seat to see what permits I needed. I was told "it's your land, you can do whatever you want." Coming from a state that is HEAVILY regulated, it was a breath of fresh air! Don't know if it's like that in every county, but it is in mine.
I live in Kentucky too but the township is shifty they tried to charge us 4x the water bill becuase i told them about a water main break they had on our easement
Your particular statement "We live in a world of cheating, lying and distrust" is so resonant with me, I'm Gen X and I've watched the decline of our society as a whole. I do approach every situation, every purchase, and every interaction with the law with great apprehension . I've been swindled too many times, and had certain police interactions where they CLEARLY trampled on my rights. So I stopped being friendly. Too bad, once you get to know me, I'm there for you. Government has grown to a ridiculous size and they just keep coming up with new laws that frankly, do nothing but feed cash back to the county/state/fed. Once those laws exist, they never go away. We are in dark times.
Ok, I get it. Be grateful you have one inspector. Living in the big city, I was adding onto my house to make it bigger and put in a garage. The plumbing inspector came after I had installed all the plumbing. He said an air pipe from the shower was wrong and that I could not have it the way it was. The electrical inspector came by and said it was incorrect that I had to change it. I contacted the county and they said I should follow what the current inspector said because he had been with them the longest. So I changed it. Then when the inspector came to inspect the roof, it was the same plumbing inspector . He asked why I changed it. I told him and he called the office and I had to change it back. So, I was supper pissed and called my attorney. My attorney called me two days later and told me that I was to leave it the way the first inspector who was the third inspector said and if it wasn't that way to leave it in the condition it was in. I told him the first and third were the same guy. It seems that the guy that was with them the longest was not aware of changes that were made and the new guy was fresh out of training and they were in a battle of who is going to get a higher ranking position and I was stuck in the middle. Needless to say, the first guy who was the third guy was right and the second guy was wrong. So, you got it easy, believe me. In addition, we do not own our land and if you don't believe me, try not paying your taxes. Another thing, I would like to do in my new home is put up an antenna on my property to get better reception. The rules are that I can go no higher than 35 feet and it can't be farther than 1 foot from the house. If I could go 75, my antenna could see over the top of the mountain in front of me and I could get better reception like I did with a military pole antenna and my winegaurd on it. Nope, against the city rules, and its an eyesore. Too whom? I can't say said the inspector. Now, in Cody Wyoming 5 years ago. You buy the land. Have a certified septic tank installer do testing, have the inspector witness a perk test, have the septic installer complete the system, have it inspected and when approved, cover it up and have that inspection done again. It was 150 bucks for the permit for the system. Then I said, how much for the house, she said that's it you're done. I said are they very quick about the inspections for the concrete, frame, electrical, walls, insulation, sheet rock etc. She said what inspection? I said well doesn't it have to be inspected? Honest to God this was her answer. Are you going to rent this right away? I said no! She said "well hun, we don't expect you to build something that you are going to live in that you would make so shoddy that it would burn down"!! I thought, Oh My God. Commons sense does exist in some places.
I too am a Veteran and the over reaching of our government,( city, county, state, and federal), is starting to really bother me! Somewhere, we have been lulled to sleep, and our government has taken us to the wood shed. We now, can't buy or own anything or improve our own property without the government getting into our pocket. Some states are worse than others. We have family in Missouri and when you buy a vehicle you have to pay taxes for that vehicle... and you have to pay taxes on that vehicle every year when you renew your tags on that vehicle. It never ends! I do not believe that our country was founded on this tyranny !! In fact that's why our ancestors separated from English rule and tyranny!!
While we use private currency, they have first lien rights on everything you use to discharge debt. Not pay, discharge. Look up the terms in blacks law dictionary.
Folks need to make THE choice to either wake upto this and fight side by side with us or stay asleep. BUT having made that choice make sure you stay out of our way.......🤨
I completely understand and yes slowly ,but surely loosing all of our rights 1 by 1.We can not put septic you have to connect to the sewer 10,000.00. Who has that I sold the property.
As a veteran i understand your feelings about government. Federal, state, county and or city governmental rules and regulations are so numerous and complex, i doubt anyone has a good grasp or understanding of all the complexity, and when something adverse happens, people cry out for more laws, as if that will change anything. With such a maze of rules and regulations soon we are going to need a regulation liason to help us beat a path through the swapland of rules and permits and inspections that lay a minefield of barriers in our way .
I knew a man who wanted to build a home on his piece of land. The water table was too high for a septic system and they denied a building permit. He asked if he could build a barn and they said yes, of course, you can build a barn. So, he built himself a barn that looked exactly like the split level home he originally asked for. They paid him a visit much like yours. He showed them the inside which housed some cows and horses. Hay was stored upstairs. It was a barn in all respects. Many years later he slowly finished off the inside and lives there now just fine. Other people built houses around him and nobody bothers him about anything. I agree with you about the whole freedom thing. Live and let live.
I think that is the biggest problem in our country. We have too much government. The government should be small and the people should be big. It's got the other way around. Sad for this country to do this to its citizens. But I believe we let it happen. Too. Busy working. Trying to make a living busy Bodies took over.
Josh, first of all thank you for your service to our country! Rancher from South Texas. It seems to be getting harder and harder to get up knowing I have to tend to 500 head of cattle and more rules and regulations by our county and our government. Please keep your head up we need people like you.!
I'm in what used to be a hidden quaint town in North Florida. When my parents passed away, the drama of the county always trying to cause issues passed to me. Their latest bs was literally waiting until the last minute - after months of me asking for the new tax bill - to send us a bill so large that we had to go into more debt to pay it. Oh they had reasons why it took literally over a year. But they'll always cover their rears. i used to be a civil purchasing secretary. i've seen some things. They want to flatten our neighborhood to build homes only people with more money than us can put in. They recently voted to take away the ability for young teens to drive golf carts. They rezoned our rural area and took away even more rights. We could've fought back if more people had went to the council meetings. You gotta fight back. An email? A phone call? Yeah. I saw what they do with those. They filed that these things were received and ignored the complaints. SHOW UP AT THESE THINGS. IT DOESN'T TAKE VIOLENCE TO STAND FOR OUR RIGHTS. The only time anyone should care about your septic tank is if it's a hazard. Whomever called on you wasn't being honest, that much is clear.
Yes, we are definitely over regulated. Government is far to big an overreaching. I live in Alabama & things do not seem quite as regulated as you describe in NC. Good luck as you move forward. Enjoyed the video. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you & yours!!! 👍🏼 ✝️🇺🇸❤🇺🇸✝️
Are yes Alabama, the home of fraudster governors (lectern?) and gerrymandering legislators that won’t comply with Supreme Court rulings whilst restricting the rights of 1/2 the population…. Not quite as regulated… yeah right
I definitely agree, but I believe Alabama won’t be that way much longer. The recent & current flood of people moving here is ridiculous & not sustainable as well as changing the whole atmosphere. Wicksburg AL use to be a nice quite farming community but now it is being devastated with this rapid unplanned & unorganized growth. Btw any relations to Lily & Ella?
Where I live in Georgia outside of Augusta which is still Richmond county. We had two little girls selling lemonade on the side of the road in a little makeshift lemonade stand with a little roofing off and keep them out the Sun. This was a couple of summers ago. Well the county came out and shut them down because they didn't have a permit. That's how bad it's getting.
Poor kiddos. I was hoping this story would end up with the code enforcement buying out all the goodies from their Lemonade stand. What kind of mean crabby neighbors complain about this and what kind of county officials even bother with investigating a lemonade stand? Surely, they have things on their list to do that require their attention.
I vibe with everything you said and it is outrageous what the beuracrats have done to the average American! The rich don't get punished and the "poor" always gets punished no matter what. It's gotta change. What we have now can't keep going on.
I live in NY state. :/ You darn near need a permit just to think. Now that I contemplate that, it explains a lot of things around here. We live in a small city that has delusional problems of grandeur. Back in Feb. of 2022 my 1 1/4 car garage decided to commit suicide. Actually it gave up on holding up the snow from the last winter storm, that had just dropped on it. With out delay, the neighbor behind us felt the need to inform city hall that our garage had clasped. In a bought 4 days we received a letter stating that we had 2 weeks to clean up or fix the garage and bring it up to code. Talk a bought, the need for a barn raising party??? So I sent off my own letter to city hall. I explained that we did not have the money to scrap the garage at this time. Besides its mid winter! Its to cold to go out side and play "Bob the builder". That and it was also not safe to do in this weather, you know snow and ice. Then around a month and a 1/2 later I get yet another letter. stating that we had 2 weeks to fix the garage and bring it up to code, and any further delay will result in a $2,000 fine. So I fire off yet a second letter to city hall. I politely remind them that the ground is vary muddy from all the snow melting and it would not be safe to scrap the garage until the land has hardened up. So as soon as the ground firms up, I'm out there with my trusty Sawzall making big pieces and parts into many smaller pieces when the code enforcement dude and a police officer arrive on the scene. I am then presented with a "Stop and Desist order". I'm looking at them like ?!?!?!?!?! So I explained that the fine folks at city hall demanded I get the garage clean up. So I was fallowing orders from city hall. I then presented them with the letter from city hall. Code enforcement dude, says yes, that's my signature on the letter and it is from our dept. The police officer then looks at the code dept. dude and says, well that takes care of that. He is just fallowing your orders. The code enforcement dude then states that I do not have a permit to tare the garage down. I stair at the code enforcement idiot for a bit. I then explain to him him that I have 2 issues with that. 1). As you can see, the garage is already down. That work was handled by the snow. Whether the snow needed a permit or not is beyond me. You should take the permit issues up with the snow or mother nature. As I have no control over them. Maybe you fine official like folk will have better luck with them. 2). It the official letter I received, the one I just handed to you and you admitted was from your office, said I was "ordered" under the penalty of a fine to get this cleaned up or brought up to code in two weeks. I am just fallowing the official letter you sent me. And I'm fallowing it to the letter. The letter did not say a word a bought needing any permits. Why would I need a permit if I was so ordered to do so by city hall? At this point the police officer is grinning from ear to ear. He knows where I'm going with this. So I let out a sigh. I then place both my hands in my pockets. I then looked down and began to rock back and forth on my heals. After some time, I looked up and said, well then here is what I'm going to do. I'll except your Stop and Desist order now. Then I'm going down to city hall and I'm going to speak with the city court clerk and file a law suit on you for harassment. I'm also going to ask to see the judge and get a restraining order against you and your code enforcement Dept. due to harassment. Because it will be a case of harassment, I'm sure the court will order you to stay away from me and not bother me until the trial. So we should get this all cleared up by, say the end of summer. That is if we are lucky. So the ball is in your court. Option 1) you can get in your car and go away and I can resume to carry out the orders in the letter. Or option 2). We settle this in court. Keep in mind that I am NOT physically tearing down a garage. I'm cutting up a wood scrap pile and disposing of it. I'm fairly sure the city building codes dose not say a word a bout needing a permit to clean up a scrap wood pile. Imagine the bind that would put the tree trimming business in? Rest assured that I will also be submitting photos of the wood scrap pile with my law suit. I'm al so sure that my attorney will be asking for restitution for dumpster rental and any other nifty things he can dream up. So what was the outcome? The garage, I mean, scrap pile of wood turned in to many smaller fragments and jumped in a dumpster and went away.
As a crane inspector, I was doing an inspection of a new fabrication shops hydraulic crane so they could use it in putting the shop together. Then the code idiot showed up. He informed the foreman that one concrete wall needed a 1/2 hour fire retardant coating. The foreman replied that the wall was 12 feet thick with 2 inch rebar on a 6 inch grid and didnt need any kind of fire resistant coating. The inspector got out his little book of codes and showed the foreman the code. The foreman took the code idiot around the corner, through the 4 ton steel door into the reactor containment room and again said no coating needed, that that wall was designed to hold a reactor core if it went nasty. Code guy said he didnt care, it had to be coated before he would buy it off. The foreman, using common sense, told the code idiot to GTFO of his shop, he will have the corporate lawyers pay them a visit. Several months later I came back for another inspection. The shop was in full production and the wall was coating free. This was at the old Satsop Nuclear site that was never finished. Most code enforcement officers have shinola for brains.
Sorry for your experience. I have similar values. I have built in two locations. 90 acres In Granger County TN and 10 acres in Oakland County MI. I checked for permitting in Granger and they said "its your land, build what you want" but to live there you need a septic permit/inspection. In Oakland County MI, you need a permit for anything (such as a fence not on you property line???). The zoning is intense, with 10 acres, the max animals you can have is 25 chickens (an animal point system that makes no sense at all). I am 77yo now, so I will not move again. I will live and die on my 10acres (unless they jail me for some infraction - very possible! LOL). I have my gardens and chickens [may add some illegal rabbits some day] and that will have to do. We need to get smart about who we elect and how our kids are taught. Kids need to be taught critical thinking and not what to think. I worry for our future. Best wishes, Doug
For a period of time in my life I was a commercial/residential developer and general contractor. Spent many hours in commissioner meetings and building codes offices. Like you and so many more,I attempted do things honestly and by the book. I accepted the process, though at times it was extremely frustrating. Not to mention it was costly and time consuming. What I found amazing was the number of times inspectors, codes officials and even commissioners would judge me guilty of trying to get something over them. The only thing I can suggest, through their experiences with people like you and me, they sometimes find it easier to judge us as the bad guy and they as the good guy. Through all those years it never changed, and towards the end it was only getting worse. Sorry for your disappointment. It can only make you callous which often lead to anger. Human nature is what it is. Move on or run for an office, and try to change it from that side. Failed to mention, there was also this power thing going on. I’m guessing they may have felt bullied as a kid and now it’s their turn. Good luck my friend and live a happy life. Try not to stump your toe on the “little” people.
As a hvac plumbing business owner for 20 plus years, some inspectors will work with you and help you in any way possible. Then you have the ones that have the us verse them mentality. Usually this type are the college educated ones who have never worked in the field they're doing inspections for.
Too many busy bodies that can’t and don’t mind their own business but will do wrong and feel that everyone else does the same as they do. 🇺🇸 As a Vietnam combat veteran I feel the same as you and I thank you for your service to our great nation 🇺🇸
My wife and I are new to the state and recently bought our first house that's a tiny farm but it's ours. I agree 💯% ! I'll even go further with this and say rights are being stomped on but I believe it's not only a power grab but a greed of wealth too. I've never been hit with the amount of taxes like I've seen here. We're being taxed into not owning anything. My paycheck gets taxed, every dollar I spend gets taxed, then every year I pay city, county and state tax on what I paid taxes on at the beginning with my taxed check. Love your channel and would love to show my wife your beautiful piece of heaven. God bless.
Air Force here. 69 to 74. I feel the same way as you. In Nevada they are pretty good with property owners. They seem to bend over backwards to help you and always with a smile. I love our inspector and if you do something wrong, he'll wait there while you fix it if it can be fixed that day. Or he'll come back when it's fixed and not charge you for a return trip. But keep in mind that there are Karens everywhere and some people just can't mind their own business.
As an Army vet and electrician, I do understand exactly how you feel. Ag buildings are treated special under the code. As soon as you said "occupy" or "habitable" the rules, tax code, and bureaucracy suddenly changed. An ag building can be whatever you want. Add electrical, and a basic ag permit with inspection is required. As soon as you say "occupy", the value goes up, the taxes go up, and other things are required. Smoke detectors, fire walls, minimum separation rules, and of course an occupancy permit. You can do an ag building on a housing permit, but you can't do a house on an ag permit. If you occupy an ag building without an occupancy permit, the local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) will red tag your building. Sounds like you need to change your permit, get the required inspections and assessments, and follow the instructions as if it were a house. You can also just stop talking about ever sleeping there. When / if the time comes you decide to occupy the building as a residence, file a new permit to bring it to the minimum standard. In the meantime, post a sign that no overnights are allowed in that building.
You are very careful to be respectful to your county offices, but realisticly. They messed up. There should have been a record of the permit request, a record of the inspection request, and a copy of the results of the inspection. The fact that they had no paper trail at all means that somebody was remiss in their responsibilities. But as you indicated, the biggest question is, why so many regulations? They always say its for our safety, but it seems like it's for control.
Absolutely we are over regulated. I agree with everything you said… AMEN Sir‼️. Over around our neck of the woods you’re not even allowed to have a tiny home on your property . Sorry in this day and age when there is a housing crisis you should be able to put whatever you want on your property as long as you’re not hurting or harming anyone else PERIOD🙏🇺🇸. Thank you from our hearts and souls for your service ✌️❤️🖖🇺🇸‼️
Josh, there's also another possibility as to why you got called in: years ago, we were trying to find someone to finish our unfinished basement for us. There was one fellow who came over that we interviewed, who later on did not respond to us, despite repeated attempts to contact him. We tried several times over a few day period, trying to get a quote. As we were wanting to get going on the project quickly, we ended up going with a different contractor. Right after the work got started we had police show up to see if we had a work permit for that job (which we had since the contractor we hired had pulled it). From what I remember, the police told us that someone had called it in! Now we were on very good terms with all our neighbors, so I seriously doubt it was one of them. But I began thinking about that other contract who never returned our calls. I ended up actually suspecting that he was the one that called us in. I don't have any proof. Just a hunch... something didn't feel right about him. And we never heard back from him, although I believe I did leave him a final voicemail telling him that we were going to go with someone else. All that to say, if you interviewed multiple contractors for the electric, and gave the job to one (while another one thought he should have gotten it), it's always possible he could have called it in just to provide harassment. There are wicked people in this world, as you well know.
As a Vietnam Veteran I thank you for you service but I don't think Ag organizations or Veteran organizations that are capable or willing to help Veterans involved in agriculture!
not anyone's responsibility to get veterans involved in ag in my opinion....we make our choices and shouldn't need to be subsidized by the gov't in any career field. That's just my opinion...there's piles of "free money" out there for farmers to take from the tax payers...but the reality is that if a farm can't stand on it's own darn 2 feet without handouts....then it won't stand my friend. The gov't doesn't owe me anything....I joined the USAF to become a man. Now.....drafted and forced to serve....you darn right they owe you!!! For sure!! Want something to get messed up...just hand it to the gov't and watch them go!
My uncle built his own house in the 1940s. A great house. All kinds of good stuff. Around 1965, he wanted to convert the garage to an apartment for his mother-in-law. He wasn’t able to get a permit because he wasn’t a licensed contractor. My uncle had a very distinctive voice and he raised the level a little bit as he was arguing with the people over at the county. Someone who knew him and had a good bit of authority came over to see what the fuss was. Times had changed and there were new regulations, rules and so on. My uncle’s friend filled out the paperwork so my uncle would be a plumber, and electrician, and all of the necessary sort of contractors for the purpose of this one contract. He did the conversion and it was very good. He knew how to do everything and, like any other contractor, his work had to be inspected. No problem, except for the new rules. It’s a good thing you have people on your side.
About twenty years ago in Tennessee my father and I built a house on my land. Our problem was the septic tank. We did all the right things getting the permit and paying lots of money to have them come out and tell us exactly how it had to be put in. The ground in Tenn is mainly clay dirt so we had to have a very long drain line that was stretched out back and forth across about an acre or more. We had the right people come to install it and it was a lot of work. It got done but before you can fill all the lines in you have to have it inspected. Thats where the problem came in. The inspectors just would not come out. After about three weeks there was a big flooding rain that came and well filled in most of the lines. We called and reported it and still no one came. two months later they came and by then and all the rain the lines were about filled in. Even though you could see all the lines were exactly where they had told us to put them we have to pay the installers to come back out and dig it all up so the inspectors could see we used the right lines and how it was supposed to be like rocks for drainage. etc. Cost us a lot of money. We checked with a lawyer to see if we could do something, but the code law is the code law no matter what mother nature did we had to make it where they could inspect it on their time. Tell me that ain't some BS. I no longer live in Tennessee and sold the house many years ago.
In his case he's upset because his neighbors started bitching, but as a property owner i also worry when I see someone going crazy building huge structures near my prop, people don't know if he's going to keep building and building and even though his property is very big all of that, it goes out the window when a week or 2 storm moves in, when you alter the topography in your land where that water is going to go? when everything starts flooding properties turn into a dot, especially when everything is flat, owning acres of land is a huge responsibility, and the "i mind my own business" motto doesn't fly./ here we have a whole borough under water because of bad move pertaining construction, it killed the prop value and everyone wants out, nobody ever imagine that something like that could happen, but it did.
I live in a small town in northeast Arkansas. Our problem here is that we don’t have enough rules and regulations. People can literally do anything they want to on their property here in the city limits. Including building any kind of a big metal building in their backyard. Swimming pools in the yard without a safety fence around them. Motorhomes trucks junk you name it. They’ve got it everywhere. When we moved here 40 years ago. Our neighborhood was very nice. But it is really going downhill. I have called and talked to every mayor that has been in office in the last 20 years. my front yard now is flooding because my neighbor refuses to clean out the drain under her driveway. She won’t do it and the city says it’s not their problem. Everywhere I look now out the windows there are sheds going up storage sheds, she sheds, he sheds tool sheds and it looks like there is no stopping them. Mayor says they can do anything they want to. It’s their property. Have one guy that lives right across the street from the courthouse here. Put up the most horrendous looking Halloween decorations. That was last year. Then he put up Christmas decorations without taking the Halloween down. Now I think he’s decorating for Easter and the Halloween is still up. In cases like that I really think we need some restrictions. And now his yard looks like a used car, truck and boat and motor lot.sometimes restrictions are necessary. Because there are a lot of people out there who are not real bright, and have very poor taste. My pursuit of happiness has been taken away here because of what everything looks like.
@@idahewett1432 Too bad, so sad! Don't like it.... LEAVE! It is people like YOU who cause these incremental rules and regulations that slowly creep into society and end up choking the life AND LIBERTY out of people!
Josh, my story is kind of like yours. I served 20 years in the USAF myself. I live in NC also, but east of you a couple of hours. After retirement i had built a 30 x 35 metal building. After having everything permitted and inspected and building completed i received a call from the head inspector that he didn't have a signed off permit for my electricity to the building. He wanted to come out and reinspect what had already been inspected by a inspector that used to work for him which was the one that had inspected my electrical work. Well, i thought about his request for a couple of moments and told him no. I told him that i could not have gotten power turned on by the electric company without a signed permit. I further iterated that because his previous inspector misplaced or whatever he did with it wasn't my problem. My conversation with him was respectful but to a point that i was not going to be reinspected for something that had already been done. He agreed to what i was saying and never heard another thing about the issue. Yes, to answer your question, our rights are being infringed upon more and more on a daily basis. I have since sold the previous property and bought another. Well, the property i purchased i could not build a building upon until i built a residence on. The restrictions on this property is i can not put just any dwelling on. It had to be a stick built home. Again, i am being heavily restricted on this property. It is my property, not the city or the county's! I don't live in a subdivision, but being treated as such. It's BS! So, yes! Our rights are being trampled on by others. Regulated to death. Sick of it!
@samsally3581 I live in Florida and I am dealing with the same stuff... the government can't seem to keep their hands out of your pocket.. it doesn't matter if you're in a blue or red state..
Have you reached out to everybody, including your State Rep. and State Senator? I personally think where you are that the town/city, county and state are bleeding law abiding citizens whether your a native of the area or not(if your not you got an uphill battle just to start with) Sometimes that certain saying comes up and bites, "it is what it is". But still it's your land and as long as your doing everything possible within the law, all permits needed etc. I wish you the best and thank you for your military service. 🙏 🇺🇸
I want them to leave me alone! If I have to push hard I'll reach out to my local representatives...but honestly I just want them to leave me alone!! Get out of my face and not come back!
We lost our freedom the day we were told that we need to pull a permit for a home in our own land, we lost our freedoms when we are forced to pay taxes on a land that is paid for and if you don't pay your taxes the Government will take from t you.
Completely agree. It’s an absolute joke. They should never be able to take your land you have paid for. If anything I would understand if you don’t pay taxes then you lose access to firefighters (if not volunteer fire dept) or police/etc since they are paid from tax income but you should never have your property that you bought and paid for taken away. And permits are just a way to force you to let the government know what you have and are doing on your land and gives them a “reason” to watch everything you are doing consistently just to make sure you are doing what the permits allow and then fine you even more money if they think you do anything other than that and cause a ton of hassle until you PROVE otherwise. Guilty until proven innocent.
And that is the hill I will stand and die on it seems ...USMC combat vet here.....what is worth fighting for these days ?the right to live first off...un harrased and free.
I am with you buddy,a few years back my husband committed suicide, I lost income, ended up in a horrible d/v relationship some years later, who wouldn't help me with anything, long story short,I lost my electricity for sometime and had to use a generator, my local code enforcer (in maine)came to my house,I've owned of 38+yrs.,and told me it was against the law to "LIVE OFF THE GRID"&was gonna condemn my home if I didn't get power on in 14days,middle of the winter, getting 1check a month due to 3prior back surgerys, couldn't get help anywhere, needless to say,I had to resort to things unimaginable but got it on,I don't eat half the time to just pay my light bill, behind in everything else&nearly loosing my home just to "KEEP MY POWER ON"I HEAR YA,ANY COMMENTS HEAR TO WILL HELP
take a small loan on your home plus expenses for 3 months, list your property to sell, sell it... and get out of Maine to a state where you have freedom and less expenses ( ky, tn, etc). I shop at an Amish store that sells expired food, I purchased a gallon of organic almond milk for .70 cents this month. Last thing, get close to GOD via prayer and His Word
That person is right, unless you don't want to leave family. JUST SELL AND MOVE, A NEW PLACE CAN BE A "GOD SEND". IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. I WILL PRAY FOR YOU AND YEHOVA GOD WILL HELP YOU DECIDE. YOU MUST GET THIS SITUATION UNDER CONTROL. ONLY BUY HOUSE YOU CAN AFFORD IN A "BETTER" STATE. 😮
Wow I dont see any smugg comment from "bureauATF about this one. All advice about how the gubberment is in the right till it comes to a story like this one. Good luck lady, hope you figure something out cause you are literally on your own in this world and unless you have family nearby that will help you out it is grimm indeed.
i know this probably doesnt apply, since it seems like you said you dont have alot of money. but idk how much of a tax credit you can get in your state for solar so you might be able to get solar with a tax credit to pay for most of it. that way you can actually sell electricity to the grid and make a little bit of extra money
I am sad to hear of your situation. In my state, the power company has shut off my power when I did not pay my bill. There is no concern for a homeowner that is in a cold, dark house. But then I learned years later that a tenant renting my house did not pay his electric bill, and the power company told me that it is illegal for the power company to shut off the power. The owner is responsible for the bill. Take a guess what happens to me if I don't pay. My power is shut off. I may even have to pay for the tenant's rent somewhere else until I pay the power bill for the house the tenant is renting from me. In the meantime, the tenants don't have to pay the rent.
Don’t be disheartened or frustrated. You are doing everything right. Keep in mind that your success will elicit jealousy and envy in the hearts of those that can’t/won’t do what you did. Stay smart and sharp, and try to anticipate as much as you can what they could do you (while trying to not become paranoid. 😂😂). Thank you so much for showing all us what you do. It’s inspiring.
Think you nailed it in the final statements. They're trying to choke out the average decent person. We do live in a time of massive distrust, and it is dangerous.
First and foremost, Thank You Josh for your service to your community in policing and for your loyal service to your country while serving in the Air Force. Having spent 36 years in policing north of the border, I'm retired and living on the east coast of Canada in Nova Scotia. Like you, I purchased 50 acres to enjoy my sawmill and to build our retirement home. We share the same attitude by doing things right. After applying for our permit and milling all the lumber, the building inspector advised the lumber could not be used in residential construction if it was not graded. I got around this loop hole by taking the lumber grading course and getting my certification to stamp and grade my own lumber. Problem solved. Ironically, I now get the same inspector dropping by to purchase graded lumber for his own personal use. I know you can relate to the affects of stress during your times in policing and the air force. I also am the proud owner of a Wood-Mizer LT35 mill and use my mill to help our first responders as a form of therapy to help them get through some rough times. Keep doing what your doing. Wishing you great success on your new farm. Warmest regards,
I've been around long enough to see our freedoms slowly eroded close to the breaking point. Every time I do anything on my land there seems to be someone who decides they don't like what I'm doing and will make a cowardly call behind my back. Like you, I follow the law and have my permits but having someone come to check is infuriating. The permits were supposedly put in place to protect us but from what I can see it's just an income stream for my township and county. I've literally had 2 separate electrical inspections (for new services) where the inspectors never inspected a thing. One never left his car and the other stood on the front porch and never entered the home. If I'm following the law and paying for a permit I expect the inspection to be done by someone who knows the code and at least looks at what they are inspecting.
A tree came down on my power line and tore everything off the side of the house - which I was responsible for. I needed a permit to get the work done and a follow up inspection to get the power turned back on. The guy came by and posted an official looking orange paper to my front door. Basically said work was permitted AND it passed inspection. I hadn't even hired anyone yet!
Thank you for sharing your story. You are a real American hero. You served your country, you followed the spirit of the law and it would seem the letter of the law as well. You experienced righteous indignation, and yet kept it from becoming personal, and you made an appeal to the public for support of the very spirit which created this great land. God bless you and yours.🙏
Thank you for your service! I also served (Navy for me) and today I feel that I wasted my time. I came home to so much regulation and over sight, I could not have a day without getting pissed. I have come to realize that only dishonest people make the majority of complaints. When someone like you comes along, does everything legally, without greasing wheels, then you owe no one anything. This makes you dangerous. Keep being dangerous friend! Also, a little wisdom here, when people smile at you pay attention to how many teeth you see.... not everyone smiles, they just bare their teeth and before you know it, their causing you problems.
Here in Missouri, it depends on what county, and or city you live in. Some places are very much in your business, and others aren't. We live in a very rural county, and in our county I can build anything I want from a shed to a 10 bedroom house with no permits or inspections whatsoever. Just let the county assessor know when it's finished and that's it. I wouldn't want to live any other way. And I completely understand how you feel.
I am also a Veteran. Thank you for your service! In NE Oklahoma, there are many areas where there are no regulations or permits required. You can, for the most part, do whatever you want. For people, like you, who are going to do things correctly and keep your place squared away, that's fine. The problem comes when people, who don't have those personal standards are allowed to live as they choose. Some people need to be regulated. I never would have thought I'd say something like that until I lived here. Some people choose to live nasty and blame it on poverty. That's a lame excuse. It's because of those people, that others are over regulated. JMHO Semper Fi
I think for cases like that, and there are plenty of them around here as well. There needs to be a balanced, or a Citizens committee. The neighbors people need to get involved with their community. Some people just live harmful lives to themselves. Common sense should prevail I wish it could more community matters just as much as the food we eat
Yes, some ppl live in poverty and you may think that is nasty. They maybe legally blind.... get to know ppl in your community. Some ppl are prideful and won't ask for help. There are programs for ppl who need help to keep electricity on. Maybe they are disabled with a brain injury. For free they can get a caseworker that can help them put all their bills on autopay. Just get to know them. If they seem reluctant to have you inside their home offer to buy them a cup of coffee at the nearest Cafe. My life was really hard until a lady who lived in my apartment complex helped me learn everything I was qualified for. I was permanently disabled by a criminal... the hospital did the bare minimum to get me out. I really don't remember my 1st year after the incident. My friends 🧡 paid for an apartment and they brought me to the social security office. Anyway, this lady came into my life and helped me get help... and I could finally eat more than once a day since I had an aide who could drive to a cheaper supermarket. Anyway, I now know there is help out there for me. My place is very cluttered, but not nasty. I start to go through my possessions but get distracted or my physical pain gets to be too much. Have a good day!
We have regulations in theory - but really, getting a competent electrician to go over your wiring is a basic liability concern. .. if you don't want to do it, the insurance carrier is not obliged to cover you, and a lending institution is free to take liability into concern when deciding what sort of loan conditions they are comfortable with. As it turns out, I am SURROUNDED by competent electricians that are happy to work for a good pot of chili, a beer and a story. The city of Tulsa, now .. well, they leave me alone, and I am just fine with that, too. Navy, GMG BB63 .. give us a holler, and we'll send it 😎
@ChaplainRuf Wow! Struck a nerve didn't I chaplain. I'll add you to my prayers. I never said, nor did I imply, that I was better than anyone. As far as you caring about my military service, you should, but I served for those who care and those who don't. Either way, you're welcome.
👋 Building inspector of a very large municipality here. We have a homeowners waiver that you can sign that allows you to do most of your own work, less plumbing and electrical. If you can pass inspection, you can do it. The reason for the regulations for licensed trades is because people die from shoddy work done by unscrupulous contractors. That being said, I also have to investigate complaints of things being built without a permit. It's almost always reported by a Karen neighbor. When I get those complaints, I NEVER write a citation unless I absolutely have to. Like a homeowner wiring an accessory structure in a very dangerous manner. I always try to work with people.l, especially because investigating unpermitted work isn't what I signed up for. I signed up to inspect structures to ensure they're structurally sound, and that they will be sound for the owner in 25 years. But even then, I bend over backwards to help people to build things correctly. As I tell people all the time, I'm here for the benefits, not to lick boots.
The fact you would even think about investigating as you call it a “Karen Neighbor” says you are the problem. One more government worked destroying his own neighborhood because of a job title.
@@MrHantu666 I appreciate that. I've worked on both sides of the fence so I know how a bad inspector with a fragile ego can destroy your project, so I try to find a balance of keeping the contractor moving along without slowing him down and protecting the homeowner and the public. The trick is to do that without taking anything personally. My department is full of fragile egos and bootlickers that dream about stop work orders and citations, so I do what little I can to make whatever difference I can make for the public.
The problem is that most are not like you. I am also an inspector and I believe codes are out of control. The code inspectors I have worked with building a new construction house are ridiculous and call out every minor thing. Code inspectors should only be checking for major safety issues and nothing more imo.
@@judahbrutus @judahbrutus I'm going to have to completely and wholeheartedly disagree. That's not the problem. What kind of inspector are you? A home inspector? Code inspectors are not OSHA inspectors and we're not home inspectors. Our job is to check for code compliance, not safety. Codes exist for a reason. What you may see as a minor issue might not be a minor issue to somebody else. People will throw a fit if I call them out for not having a continuous tie at a perpendicular joist/rafters connection because they think "it's just a rat run." No, its an unstable roof. You absolutely need wind bracing, wall/wall connections, correct portal framing, correct wood grades, so on and so forth. If you aren't a licensed code inspector, you just don't completely understand what we're looking for. If you aren't building a house to code, that's a problem with you, not a problem with the code. And that's exactly the purpose of the inspection. It's not to "bust" you, it's to check your work and give you a chance to correct it. The people that pay you are 100% expecting and wanting a house built to code, and it's your job and your responsibility to be knowledgeable enough to provide that to them. I hold an unlimited building license as well as a home inspectors license, so I know both industries, and they are absolutely not the same. There is very little overlap. Just because I work with people and assist them wherever I can and do what I can to make the process as painless as possible doesn't mean I'm allowing homeowners to get screwed over by not making sure their house is built properly.
I'm a builder, and I do permit all the time. There are two things: the city has a big head of pride and money. That's what it's about. It's not right. It's insurance, and you are right about the wood. You fit the nail on the head. it is because of safety reasons and could cause an environmental issue. Yes, I'm in Texas, and it's the vast west of construction here, and it's a lot easier to build. The northern building is more complex, and I will tell you why. Basement sub pump and the weather. Great show, and I feel you. Texas is a great area. I ran a rainwater system, and it really was easy to do. We get 54 inches of rain a year, and it's enough for us all year. Two in the house. tanks are 8000 gallon tanks with filter system.
I'm not sure the "pride and money" theory doesn't translate into all walks of life. I get it for septic, but what I don't get is why I can't build what I want structurally on my own place without being pestered

(he literally trains for the death outcome)
Then he begins the video with statements of love, respect & trust for such clowns in costumes.
It’s all about greed and new ways to create tax revenue
I could see we’re going to let the government steal our homes. Well, not all of us!

It's sad and disheartening that this is what our counties allow in order to make money and their salaries higher.
I believe you are correct, but just try not paying.
Setting aside your highly dubious assertion, how do you propose funding local fire and police departments? Or the roads and schools in your town? Do you really want to buy or rent a house that has undergone no permitting inspections?

He cut the logs, then bought a mobile saw mill.

Just live in a county that has no building codes there out there the freedom to do what you want without any permits, or zoning approval is like nothing you ever felt before. I did stuff without permits for years, but all it takes is one person to turn you in. When you're investing $1000's into something can't afford to be in violation with the local Government once they latch on to you no way to fight them. I live in Jasper County Texas. I inherited 30 acres from my Grandparents. I wanted to build a log cabin. I would have not had to change any of the septic!
It's is not right for a group of people to decide what I should or should not do on my land! My Grandparents worked the tail ends off to have what they did! To have somone come in and then tell Me, Well Your Grandparents didn't know what they were doing! I almost lost my temper!!

Your grandparents probably stole that land from black people. What you're getting now is karma.
I feel for you John, and every American nowadays. My grandfather (Jasper Simmons), built his own house in 1952 in Lorane Oregon. He was still improving and adding to his property throughout my childhood (artesian well, garage, shed, root cellar ext). It was a beautiful rural property. He'd never get started now! You are very kind with your words, and thank you for your service. I too am a USAF Veteran (as is my wife.) We built our 'forever home' in Pennsylvania in 2021/2022. The governements (local, state and federal) have all become WAYYYY too involved in everyone's business, in my opinion. I really didn't want, nor did I need, to pay for all the various departments to sign off on every little thing involved in a home build on 9 acres of land. Overkill is an understatement. All the requirements that cost me $10k every time I turned around, and needed a signature from the next guy, who then required a new thing that cost me $10k... It was really ridiculous. Great video, thanks for shedding light on this problem!
Can you provide more detail on these multiple $10,000 requirements?

CE estimate for the project was $15k, after all was said and done the CE fees were just over 50k for drawings. Then came the expense to add the features. To be clear - every time township engineer scheduled an inspection - it resulted in a new mitigation plan. Rain garden added, multiple drainage features required excavation crew to dig trenches to nowhere. It’s nearly comical now to be living on our property and to look at the various things that were required.
I also live in NorCal. You absolutely can not trust government. The permitting process is for total control of the populous to have a de facto ownership of our property guaranteed in the constitution as “THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS “ stop trusting them and stop talking to them !
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I've been in construction in ILL ANNOYS just West of Chicago, for 36 years, and have owned my own business for 27 . EVERYTHING now requires a "permit" including installing a concrete patio, (of which concrete is my field of construction) which is ridiculous and only a money grab from the local municipality, in my opinion, as it has no structural relevance to a home/building's integrity.

So, just to be clear, your problem is your neighbors, not the government. Right?
Do you guys have a land patent/allodial title?
Almost the exact same thing happened to us. We were investigated by code enforcement after we put electric in a three car garage/workshop. This is six months after it was inspected. Then we put solar panels on it and the electric company had to approve it. We had all the permits and paperwork, but it was infuriating to have to pull it all out & prove it when they should have it already. We are over regulated in my opinion.
Exactly- they had all the data and paper

It's been over Regulated since the taxation of land. A taxed land is land owned by the government and rented by the individual.
I live in Kentucky too but the township is shifty they tried to charge us 4x the water bill becuase i told them about a water main break they had on our easement
that is one of the nice things of living here that's for sure
Record everything that you or anyone else says.incase you have to go to court...unfortunately we live in bad times....
You don't pay for your parking permit?
🤨The more money the County gets the more Powerful and greedy they become.!🤔 🫤
And people like you,Danny, thank you as well
I'm in what used to be a hidden quaint town in North Florida.

Are yes Alabama, the home of fraudster governors (lectern?) and gerrymandering legislators that won’t comply with Supreme Court rulings whilst restricting the rights of 1/2 the population…. Not quite as regulated… yeah right
If we do not change it it will not get changed.
Here in rural Alabama. I’m glad I live here.

I love the fact you have a gated farm land.
dang right...that gate means NOT WELCOME!
That's how bad it's getting.
yep....welcome to this world of ridiculousness
Unbelievable
Poor kiddos. I was hoping this story would end up with the code enforcement buying out all the goodies from their Lemonade stand. What kind of mean crabby neighbors complain about this and what kind of county officials even bother with investigating a lemonade stand? Surely, they have things on their list to do that require their attention.
Wow unbelievable
Wow, what has this world come too
I vibe with everything you said and it is outrageous what the beuracrats have done to the average American!
Please!! What WAS THE OUTCOME???

Sounds like a nosey neighbor had a house fire and a total loss and the inspector was found dead
As a Vietnam combat veteran I feel the same as you and I thank you for your service to our great nation 🇺🇸
This is why you build UNDERGROUND. It pays for itself simply in taxes saved. They don't tax private man-made caves yet, do they?
Thank u for that

It also could have been a very serious mistake on the part of the county, and they could have been trying to cover there mess up
As a Vietnam Veteran I thank you for you service but I don't think Ag organizations or Veteran organizations that are capable or willing to help Veterans involved in agriculture!
not anyone's responsibility to get veterans involved in ag in my opinion....we make our choices and shouldn't need to be subsidized by the gov't in any career field.
There’s an organization in Va. that helps soldiers be retrained as farmers. I know they are funded by the Military.
Just do a Allodial title in Tennessee! If you're a nosey person kick rocks and boot lick somewhere else!

Sick of it!
Multitude of officers to harass the crap out of us. So many agencies with mini hitlers, flexing their communist little pinkies.
Move …. To a red state
I assume you're county is Republican ran being NC ......regulations start at local levels....sounds like your intelligent...just cut to the chase...
@samsally3581 I live in Florida and I am dealing with the same stuff... the government can't seem to keep their hands out of your pocket.. it doesn't matter if you're in a blue or red state..
howardj602, yes sir, you are so correct!
I am sitting here shaking my head in disbelief. You have done everyng right. It is your land and you put whatever you want on it.God bless
Warmest regards,
❤
You're a Genuine Blessing!
I would insist they "inspect" my work or I would refuse to pay them lol
Exactly
A tree came down on my power line and tore everything off the side of the house - which I was responsible for. I needed a permit to get the work done and a follow up inspection to get the power turned back on. The guy came by and posted an official looking orange paper to my front door. Basically said work was permitted AND it passed inspection. I hadn't even hired anyone yet!
@@dough9512 WOW!
Everything is absolutely over regulated. I'm sorry you had that experience.
I'm not sure how free we are when you must have a permit aka government permission to do anything.
they tell us where we can eat, sleep and go to the bathroom!!

Same thing where we live.
Yep live in the same state. We don’t realize how fortunate we are.
I moved to Douglas County last year for those same reason.
Fellow rural Missourian here that agrees with this comment.
Greetings from the ozark mountains! Arkansas side!
Navy, GMG BB63 .. give us a holler, and we'll send it 😎
It's their life. F u
You're a good man 👍
@@MrHantu666 I appreciate that.
