My beautiful husband of 56 years passed away 10 days ago and he loved his flannel shirts and wore them all the time. I'm going to make one for each of my 3 children and myself. Thank you for sharing this lovely idea. Big hugs from Australia.
I’m so sorry for your incredible loss. Big hugs to you during this holiday season. ❄️🎄
❤ my condolences. I lost my husband of 46 years, and he wore plaid shirts just like in the video. But like yours, he wore the same kind of shirts everyday too. I am going to make one for each of our 3 daughters, 1 for myself, and 2 granddaughters. I have to do mine by hand. I don't see or have a machine but I have been watching videos on his to do it by hand. I think using Leslie's pattern, it won't be too hard. It may take. While though, but hey, time I have plenty of. Anyway, hugs to you on your grief journey.
Sorry for your loss! Thank you for sharing
my 94 y/o father just passed away. I will definitely makes some pillows using using his shirts. Thank you so much for making this video
I’m very sorry for your loss! We lost our Dad a few years back and I always wish I would have saved some of his shirts!
This is just the tutorial I was looking for. My dad passed away in December. We're in the process of cleaning out his place this month, and I saved a dress shirt I remember him wearing in my childhood. I'm so looking forward to making it into a pillow, thanks to you. With gratitude, from Saskatchewan 🇨🇦
I am sorry for your loss! Thank you for your kind words!
Made my first one this evening. I was a little nervous due to the nature of the project. It was quick, simple and looks great . Thanks!
I'm glad you made it. It is something that will be cherished.

Sorry about your loss. Thank you for making this easy! ❤
This is a wonderful idea. I should have saved my dads shirts. He wore the snap kind also. Beautiful memories. Thanks for the idea .
Thank you so much! Just what I needed! I'm sure if I use a button up shirt it will work too!
Very nice job and well explained.
I love this video !! Been wanting to make a few memory pillows with my husbands shirts .. thanks so much it looks easy to do!!
It was super easy! Thank you so much!
Watching from England - thank you 😍
My daughter is on an amazing journey to recovery. An incredible, strong young woman she has become. This is a special holiday, we haven’t been together like this in a few years. So this year is sentimental. I lost my dad a few years back, and have one of his main flannels. I’ll be doing this for my girl. Her and my dad were true best friends. I’m excited to do this, thank you for sharing!🙂 Happy Holidays to you and your families ♥️
I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our Dad several years back and I so wish I would have saved some of his shirts for this very thing. These that I made this time were for another family member and it seemed to mean so much to those that received these. Happy Holidays to you as well.
Love this.. Thank you. 🙏
Fantastic!
Love this!!
Thank you for sharing your video and tutorial.
My niece in Big Spring made one out of Vince and her Daddy’s shirt (my brother). They are beautiful and mean so much!
Yes, I made several for Wayne's daughters and a niece!
Thank you so much for sharing especially the quote. I just lost my Dad last week and grabbed a few of his shirts. Seeing how easy this is, I may grab some more and pass them out to family.
I am so sorry for your loss! Glad you enjoyed this~
Love this! My dad wore the same kind of shirts! We just lost him three weeks ago! 💔💔 thank you for sharing!
I am so sorry for your loss! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
Oh my goodness, thank you so much!
Love the word “finagled” definition needs to become part of my daily vocabulary.
I have lot of my late mums clothes she passed away when my daughter was just two weeks old, so its been a very turbulent time learning to be a mum with out my own mum for guidance.
Thank you for this video
Thank you! Lol Another idea is a memory quilt. I have seen a lot of t-shirt quilts lately. I will have to do a search on that. Hugs.
@@LesleyChandlercrafts good idea on the quilts too! Luckily my mum made me one before she passed away- but it would also be a lovely keepsake and a lovely way to learn to use her sewing machine too
Awesome 👏
I try to do pillow covers that can easily come off to wash the cover when needed. That's another benefit to the snaps on this one you are making.
If the shirt has perspiration smell, before using the shirt for your pillow cover, soak at least 1 hour, 12 parts warm water to 1 part vinegar. Then launder as usual. Unless you want the memory of the person whose shirt it was.
Thank you. This is a great and simple pattern. I was concerned doing a more elaborate one as I've never made one and don't want to ruin a shirt from my godfather. I also plan to sitch a removable heart to put in the shirt pocket with his cologne sprayed on it.
Thank you for the tutorial. My concern is with washing will the seams start to fray or can you do a double row. ?
That is a good point. I have not experienced that with this type of material. But, you could zigzag the edges all the way around before you sew the pieces together maybe? Thanks for watching!
Love this so much! Would button up shirt work similarly to snaps? Or does the insert push the buttons apart?
The button up would work too!
❤❤❤
Love this idea! What seam allowance did you use? I'm wanting to make a couple of these!
Hey there. Thank you! I used 1/2” seam allowance.
@@LesleyChandlercrafts Thank you so much! I made a couple and that's what I used. They were a big hit! Thanks fir sharing this video!💕
I love your newspaper idea. So much faster. Do you have to use interfacing?
Thank you. No I don’t use interfacing. Although it might be a good idea for some shirts are very thin fabric.
On a button down shirt you need to leave an opening on one of the sides correct.
I did not. After I sewed everything, I opened the snaps or buttons and slipped pillow in that way.
Great idea! I want to make some with my hubby’s uncles shirts I don’t know how to sew can I make this without sewing?
Oooh I don’t know unless you sew by hand! I don’t think fabric glue would be durable enough. Let me know if you try it.
@@LesleyChandlercrafts I will
What size is your seam? 1/2 ?
What about button up shirts? Same technique?
I dont have a sewing machine so would have to hand stitch. I literally cried watching this because I have my son's shirt that looks similar to this one. He wore it when he took me to eat last Mother's Day. He died unexpectedly a few months later on Nov 8, 2023. Age 29 😢 Do you know if there is a way to get a photo turned into an iron on transfer? I have a selfie that we took together on that day and would love to have the photo on the pillow.
Do you have the link for the patch???
Did you sew it right sides together?
I am so sorry I just saw this question. Yes, right sides together. Thanks!
How to make a memory pillow from a shirt with embroidery across the shoulder at the back
What seam allowances did you use?
I am sorry I just saw your question. I used 1/2” seam allowance. Thank you. I will remember to explain that next time! 😀
May I ask where yo got the pillow form?
Yes, I got it at Hobby Lobby.
It was 16X16 i always go one inch less all the way around.
Does it matter what size the shirt is?
Did you sew 1/2 inch around
Yes! Thank you!
What size pillow insert did you use?!
16”x16”
@@LesleyChandlercrafts thank you!!
Where can I find the pillow that size?
I got mine on Amazon. Walmart and Hobby Lobby often have this size too.
I found the patch on Etsy..which size did u use?
4x4”
4 by 4 inch
❤queen
I could nott find the lable om Etsy.
Here is a link to one shop that makes them. www.etsy.com/listing/611269094/custom-memory-pillow-patch-any?ref=yr_purchases
What is the link for the patch
Lots of them can be found on Etsy. That’s where I always get mine. I’ve used several different merchants just do a search for embroidery memory, patch for pillow.
I'd be concerned that the newspaper ink will rub off on the shirt, definitely on fingers, then it will get rubbed on the shirt. No?
I suppose that is a possibility if the ink is pretty fresh. I have not had that problem.
Can I pay you to make a pillow for me?😊
