"When I play live, I want to relax" - great way to frame being over-prepared. Be anxious now so you can enjoy the moment later. As always, great video Tim!
Hey thanks so much for the comment please reach out via email when you get a chance!
Keep in mind there is a difference between over-practicing and over-preparation
Absolutely spot on.
Last tour I did with Brady Seals /Seals and Crofts 2, I was fighting my board, covering 4 decades of tones. And it was worrying.
I played so many live gigs 50 years ago, I have no desire to do it again. If you like to do that, knock yourself out. Today, I just record.
@@edryba4867 Andy Partridge, is that you? :)
"So, rather than redo this board, what I did was, I ordered a-nother one..." spoken like a true guitar player.
The first rule of guitar playing: More is ALWAYS better! lol
@@jakemitchell1671as someone who started with bass, it's always funny how different the approaches are in terms of accessories. Bass players will pride themselves on showing up with as little as possible, while as a guitar player, it's like "how many guitars and pedals am I allowed to bring?" Lol, bass players will deadass show up with just a sansamp and say shit like"I don't even NEED a compressor, just get good at controlling dynamics." As a guitar player, I'd feel naked without at least my fuzz, compressor, overdrive, and EQ
i spent like 3 years tweaking my board and now haven't changed it in like 2 years. I'm so much happier just playing music and having my sounds than always having to play the gear and always trying to figure out how to use new gear, gives me a headache just thinking about it
You are 100% correct about the FEAR being part of that first rehearsal/audition. For the band I'm currently touring with, I learned their entire setlist before the audition (not just the audition material), and since I was the only one who did so I had no issues at all and nailed it. The first gig was a piece of cake compared to that first day!
@Pedro U many thanks Pedro!!! See you around.
Great video Tim. I really appreciate you continuing to share your world. Use the new pedalboard in good health!
Tim that solo is freaking amazing. Every time I watch you play it makes me realize just how important practicing is. I get stuck up in writing, and forget to pay attention to the one instrument that I have too many of lol.
Tim, your enthusiasm and excitement about the gig and the pedal board are infectious! And you were ripping it up with tasty licks on that lovely gold top PRS at the start of the video. Wish I lived closer to see this Baked Potato gig.
Fantastic video! Thanks Tim. 🎸
I just got this board last week from Sweetwater. It took me awhile to figure out how to hook it all up. It was not cheap almost $1000! There’s a way to setup presets still trying to figure that out. But I was happy to see Tim using it! There’s a time when you have to say enough with the pedals! Find your sound and stick to it. Tim can you do a deep dive on the switcher?
Sounds incredibly challenging!! Thanks for sharing
Awesome building tips! Thank you sensei pierce 🙏🏻
Tim! So pumped for our gig! Love the pedal board talk!
Thanks Jake
@@timpierceguitar how are you using the Shanks? Do you stack it with the Nobels
Man! That opening lick was so, so nice!!!
Your skills are good, but JOY is your real super-power. Thanks for sharing that!
That's my problem... I never relax at a gig... I do love that you have HELP on the top shelf... As always, another great video...
I love the way playing guitar makes Tim smile. It’s so obvious that playing makes him feel good.
I already can see a H90 going to both boards soon! Love your tone, playing and the human being you are, Tim!
Wow- I really love that new pedal board Tim. Thanks for your videos.
“Only” two boards? ;) I’ve always thought you’d have a bunch so I love that you’ve put one together for live work.
I love the presence of the Toy Matinee CD behind the pedalboards...
Caught that, too! ;)
I love the Mash feature on TC pedals too, so useful
11/19/22. I'm going Tim. Love your playing. Have not had a yummy baked potato from there in a while
This man is not only a guitar virtuoso but a master pedal board builder too!!! Respect 🙏🏽
I love how Voodoo Lab offers their medium board with the loop switcher option connected to the front. Makes so the loop switcher isn’t so high off the ground.
Love seeing the TC Electronic Plethora on the board!
THANK YOU TIM, for another opportunity to win a cool piece of gear !!!!!!!
Thank You for your Teaching and Generosity !!!!!!!
The Plethora would sure be a welcome addition to my Mackie ProFXv2 aux…. Even though I’m a guitarist, I need it for my aux, for my Behringer synths….
Quite the timing
Iam also building my pedalboard for both studio and live gig 😁
That first jam sounds like Hackett-Era Genesis. Love it!
I love you Tim! Great content! Thank you very much!
I did not know that volume pedal function on the delay and reverb, thank you man, excelent video.
Just loved that intro !! and the toys on the pedal board were pretty cool too! Cheers
HIghly recommend the two board rig! It allows you to put a mic stand between them (easier access!), it's easier to load and pack, and instead of carrying one huge case you can carry one in each arm so you don't throw out your back. Also, when flying you're way more likely to be under the 50lb limit!
Great video, Tim!!
I never thought about running reverb thru an expression pedal. Way cool.
I see a Toy Matinee CD in the backgroud, which Tim of course played on. This CD is pretty brilliant, the playing, the songs.... No Tim on Santans, VH or the Beatles. Perhaps if he was older ; )
Tim......gotta tell ya, a lot of the purchases that have been made in the last few years have been absolutely because of you! Thank you!
I’m about to reset my board with a new power supply, mainly because of some Christmas shows where we need a cleaner stage so I finally have to drop the HX Stomp wall wart, so it’s fun so see how someone of you caliber does it.
I'm a drummer and Tim is my favorite show on RUclips.
Hope you film the gig Tim…thanks!🎸
AMAZING GOD BLESS YOU.
Damn so good Tim. His legato is sick, timing, everything. Rick Beato mentioned Tim and we haven't stopped. Enthusiasm too. Tones, perfection, great teacher. What's not to like?
Just added the Plethora 3 to my straight to FOH board to cover my time based stuff. Really like it......Since you have 3 slots for each board you create, I set up each of my boards presets with reverb/delays, but leave one slot open for the Mimiq. That way, if in the middle of a lead, no matter what bank I'm on I have that Mimiq is at my disposal. I find that the Mimiq gives me that big 3-D sound for fat leads.....a sound that is hard to get using the Strymon or Walrus Acs1 with drive effects alone. My only gripe with the Plethora is it doesn't let you know what bank/board you are on. At least, I am too stupid to figure it out. If anyone know, please shout!!
I like how you added the Mega Board sound effect in the background when you said you were making a Megaboard. I thought it was hilarious😹 I won't be able to attend your gig so eat a baked potato for me when you're there. They're delicious! Now I've got to go to Sweetwater to order that pedalboard! ! Thànks again for all you do!
Damn, Tim, I wish I had you as a music teacher when I was younger.
That's awesome Toy Matinee Album in the background. One of my favorite albums. I miss Kevin Gilbert.
"MEGA BOARD" is the best part of the video. Tim is hilarious. 😂😂🤣🤣
I like those flat connecting pedal wires i dont know i never used them. good luck on your up coming gig
Always superb content, from a tenured guitarist, and consummate professional.💎💎💎💎💎
I never noticed the tape on the neck pickup before. Do you find your pick slides under the pickup cover too? My Tele Deluxe is the worst for that... love the video as ever Tim. Every time I kick on my Nobels, you're here in spirit mate.
Underpromise, overprepare and over deliver! Cheers Tim!!
Cool peddle would love to try ...
Tim.........kool, I see toy matinee in front....that is how i found u way back when. Miss KG still and your work on that was just the best.
Thanks so much for being a top shelf human and instructor to the rest of us mortals.
NOW you tell me about those patch cables. I was looking at them, but decided to order the George Ls to be able to make various length cables. Also, that Dingbat with the built in preset and loop selector looks awesome.
George L's are great! You will be happy with your choice of just take some more work to make them.... I've used them for years:)
What a gorgeous guitar
Nice, guitars, pedals, sounds, talks, kicking, of great music plays....one man ' s shows
I remember when there used to be two baked potatoes. I miss those days. Very cool video Tim thank you
great content as always.🤠
Nice review
It’s so validating to see a professional endorse an over-prepared mindset. I really wish my band would adopt this attitude of getting prepared for the rehearsal first and foremost as opposed to the gig. I’ve expressed my frustration of having to watch and wait for band mates to learn the music at rehearsal, but I don’t think they get it. We’re still a super amateur band, but the way I see it, there’s no way we’ll break out of an amateur league with amateur practice habits.
3:14 His inner "comic book guy" slips out 😂 "the upper TIER!"
I cannot wait to see you with Why Dog Why! Great video and absolutely super important tips. Always be prepared!
Wow Great Pedalboard
If you are ever in the LA area, I would highly recommend checking a show out at the Baked Potato. Very intimate and cool venue!
Looks like you’re having so much fun doing stuff!
Tim how do you choose which guitar(s) you take to a gig and sessions?
@timpierceguitar do you use a flight case to transport your board or the soft case it came with? A video showing how you pack up, transport and tear down your session & gig rigs would be amazing.
I plan on going to the Baked Potato for that show. :)
What a fantastic guitar player!
Hey Tim, fairly new viewer, first time commenter to the channel. Thanks for this video! it’s super timely for me as I’m putting together a new pedal board (incorporating older pedals from my previous pedal brd and some new ones I just bought looking to come in this week!) and I could use all the tips and knowledge you possess on the matter. Q: did you ever use Andy Brauer studio rentals for cartage back in the early 90’s? I swear my bassist at the time, Rodney, brought me along to a session to help him set up your gear. Might’ve been a David Crosby session w/ Leland Sklar at Jackson Brown’s studio. Maybe it was someone else. If so, my apologies. Thanks again for the video and the chance to win the Plethora X3! The video on the Sweetwater site looks cool and easier to use than I had imagined. It’d make a mighty fine addition to the new board. 😎🤞🎸✌️
okis Tim i'm in 😃
Ridiculous skills and nice guy to boot... love TP! Can we have MEGAAAABOOARRDDDDD in more vids please?!
Tim, at 2:59, is that a Mostite in the background? If do, please do a video talking about it. I’ve always loved those guitars!👍
Hi Tim, you are the man! One question you may not hear very often is how do you keep your equipment so dust free? I live not to far from you (Santa Clarita) and grew up in the valley and everything gets major dusty and it seems to be getting worse. Thank you sir!
Great pedal!!!
As always, he’s the best!
Just got an M5. Quite blown away by it if I'm honest
I had my guitar lesson today and was telling my teacher to watch Tim :>.
My face is melting from listening to Your playing Sir.
I love Uncle Larry.
I love You.
Damn! What a time to be alive!
Hi Tim, You're Awesome! I know this video is on pedals, just wanted to ask for tips on keeping a floating bridge American Pro II Strat in tune. It's going out of tune just playing chords (not even using whammy bar). Messed with bridge, saddles, nut, truss rod, machine heads. I haven't found the balance. Any help would be much appreciated! God Bless You Tim!
That gold top sounds amazing! Of course it's because your fingers are on it!
Tc plexthora would be nice gift under the three
@Tim Pierce Guitar
Thanks for the cool videos! What I’d like to know is if you have a tinnitus. As a musician this seems kind of common and I’m also in this boat… you are a session musician so I guess you had enough of loud music in your ears. Do you know tinnitus or even have it?
I detect Supernaut... great video!!
"Activating loop 7" Mission Control Houston will be calling you shortly. Talented and technical is a great combination.
Great vid, thanks! at the start, I thought I was in a motivation channel...lol
Love your videos! Please cover your solo on Kenny Loggins - No Lookin’ Back. Such an amazing solo 😊 Also how you ended up being the one who played it.
Tim I"m sure you know this by now but there is a built in tuner in the plethora.
Great video and board! I’m curious you don’t use a compressor or EQ or do have them elsewhere?
Look at Tim rockin' the Ibanez MT-10 Mostortion! I've got a clone of that one with more options (as the original is expensive as hell).
Awesome content
Tim, off topic but what speaker do you mic up your Royer and 57’s with? I assume it’s your preferred speaker and I’m very curious what it is. Love and respect everything you do!
Hi Tim. I've watched many of your vids in here and with Rick B. I just heard a real nice comment about you from the guy in Iris ( roznic?) in a video from Prof. Of Rock chan. So I came here to say thanks for being a cool n amazing guy.
Thanks for the great content, Tim. This pedal looks amazing. I didn't know TC made this. Have a great show.
i have a mega board .. boss me80 to a zoom g5 into boss rc600 for guitar with a fcb1010 midi foot controler remaped + boss fs6 + boss ev30 and boss ve20 to the rc600 for mic all back to the pa and guitar amp marshall 100 wat with 1 qwad .... .... 5 foot long high low stand off ... you have to come over and have a jam next time your in australia
you can use the plethora as a tuner also!
Yes, the plethora also has a built in tuner, but not as easy or quick to access
That PB is cool but could be improved by having a plywood veneer (with a torch burnt & stained look) on top...
And my oh my, I guess some new pedals have appeared since my last (2007) issue of Guitar Player/World was published...
Are you going to replace your two H9s with the new H90s? Seems like a no-brainer. Awesome content, Tim! I've been fortunate to see a couple gigs at the Baked Potato (forever ago). I wish I could see you melt some faces! Good luck!
Very cool 🎶
Tim we’d love to see a live stream.. any chance?
Hello Tim, with so many pedals do you use buffers to condition the signal? Or, do those larger pedals like the Meris act as a 2 in 1 pedal with the buffer included? I use a Pedaltrain Nano & am considering upgrading the size of my board.
Does the PX8 switcher allow you to have groupings of pedals and also define the order of them?
plethora have great tuner
