The zoom g3 is an absolute belter of a pedal and is really intuitive to set up. Was my modulation/delay pedal for a decade. Definitely an overlooked company.
I love your work…that said..I find it funny that you’d flash an image of the Tartus…seeing as you (for us in the US) sort of resemble a young Tom Baker…my favorite Doctor.
I guess technically it’s last year’s gear, but the microcosm chroma console. Because it’s just so much flipping fun. 20 effects (4 at any time) with flexible and really intuitive routing. A warbly lofi paradise that takes you from tame impala to the outer reaches of glitchy ambience. It’s like the core of all the chase bliss pedals in an easier to tweak, hands on multi fx.
The Valiant hanging behind you looks really good 😊 . Yes..the X3 pight to be the most balanced option from TC. This one looks good, though . I really like their Quintessential pedal. Cheers Andy 😉
@@markharwood7573 Exactly my idea ! Since no one in my family plays an instrument , except me, why not turn them all onto playing "something" and have fun this Christmas. - Anyone can play the kazoo - (I think) LOL
The Daddario power supply is potentially a game changer. I’ve been waiting for someone to develop this - rechargeable power is an obvious (albeit technically challenging) idea. Hope it gets the attantion it deserves and other brands come in with their own equivalent so the market pushes the technology forward.
Hey Andy . I feel the need to say " Ha , What The Hell ?" before hearing it . I 'm allergic to bee-stings , always looking at the flowers on the lawn to make sure no-one gets stepped on . Cheers mate from Christiano the Sampler in Australia . 👍
I have a usb to dc cable with 5v to 9v converter + daisy chain to power my mini board from a mobile powerbank. All parts are cheap on Amazon. Works a treat. Currently powering a line 6 pod express and valeton vlp200 looper.
Nice one as always Andy! My choice for Gear of the Year is the Soldano SLO Super Overdrive pedal. I love that 80's and 90's high gain sound but I also prefer playing my SSS config Strats that can naturally struggle in this area. But when I plug them into this beauty, especially with the Deep Switch engaged, then... oh my goodness!
For gear of the year I'd like to put forward a combo of releases. The Tech21 Richie Kotzen signature Flyrig and Wah. The RK5v3 and Richie Kotzen Killer Wail wah V2. The Richie Kotzen stuff sounds amazing, and the wah is optical sensor so doesn't degrade with age like alot of wahs do, it's spring loaded to turn itself off, and it's phantom powered from the RK5V3 so the 2 pedals together make a really cool combo 🙂
the phantom power is one of the coolest mods I've seen, been meaning to set it up but I don't really have anything with an input jack that isn't mounted on a super tight pcb
Maybe, but I asked about it and the best they could offer was a maybe on something similar (no effect loop, no built in effects) so basically a freeze.
@@erichtisnado1536 It would indeed. I have the TC Impulse pedal (as well as the TC Infinite) but I don't know that either of them uses the same processor/architecture as the TonePrint pedals, nor that there is enough power/memory left over to run either of those in the Plethora. :(
to the power adapter... I've actually been using a usb-c pd spoofer for a long time now. I had a terrible ground loop issue in my home that I never really found a solid answer to, so I switched entirely to using a power bank. bingo, no ground loop noise. works fine mixing digital and analog pedals too. total cost? ~$10 in the spoofer board, an old 90s cordless phone psu for the barrel plug, and a little soldering. great little project. works with a pd wallwart too, but sometimes adds some noise.
The D’Addario power supply seems interesting. I am most curious about how it works in general and if you can reuse the daisy chain cable or if once your set it, that’s it.
They are suggesting that is what you can do from what I've read. But I need to see this up close and personal in the flesh. If it does do all what we think it can do then its a gamechanger. I'll get the whole system immediately.
Something I bought this year which blew me away was the Behringer HD400. It completely eradicated the hum I got having 8 pedals in series going into a Kraken V4 and finally into a Marshall ds1hr. Very surprised seeing as it was around £30 on Amazon new!
I can see the plethora x1 replacing my Hotone Xtomp at some point. The Xtomp is a very handy pedal, but it's more of a faff to change from, say, delay to flanger. You have to beam the new effect to the pedal and dial in the sound. Looks like the plethora can do that by turning the knob. My main beef with the Xtomp is that it's hard to remember what the knobs do.
Keeley OctaPsi needs to be on your Year in Gear list. The tracking on the octave alone is every bit as good as the POG and the fuzz circuit could stand on its own.
14:47 1 inch screen? What’s that in real world metrics? 2.5 cm ? Only USA uses imperial measurements. On another note. Andy thx for providing us with such entertaining and informative videos throughout 2024 Having great and uplifting things to watch when you’ve been told you have cancer always is a positive experience. I hope you and yours have a safe and memorable Christmas break. Cheers from this Aussie living in NZ 😎🎸🤘
Given the hx of your channel (a decent hx 2 B sure) I'd expect to see the Katana 100 gen3 Head in your year-end-gear. About 25lbs less than its larger sister, it packs the same punch when plugged into house system of church. Sure, no tubes; but when you're quick-changing between Christian Rock & Choral chimes, it does the job!
At least with the PX1 you don't have to worry about changing the pedal order from left-to-right to right-to-left. 😂 Very much looking forward to the Year in Gear. The only new gear I bought this year was the Keeley AT Halo Core, but the first edition, and I think that was released in '23. The '24 3-mode release doesn't really count, does it? Still a brilliant delay.
It pinches the insulation and cuts through it when you tighten the screw to make a connection. Typically automotive connectors that connect this way do not have a reliable connection. If you want a reliable electrical connection solder your own connectors. If you have ever tried to wire a trailer light connector to your car you will know what I mean. You can move around the connectors if you place electrical tape over the broken insulation from the prior connection.
As it stands, the new Zoom looper doesn't look anymore exciting than my old Line 6 JM4, which seems to have approximately the same capabilities, although probably at lower resolution, but also adding that era's variety of Line 6 models and effects. I think Zoom had almost the perfect multi-effects PLUS looping interface way back with the G5 multi-effects/modeler, which allowed one to set up almost any pedal board, with each virtual pedal or amp having its own little screen and knobs, as well as drum rhythms and looping. Its successors (G5n on up to G11 or more) look to me to be more confusing. They should go back to the G5 design, updating the sound quality of course, and adding capabilities of downloading, if not actually recording, one's own models and IRs, and of saving loops like the new MS-90LP+, along with its other expanded capabilities.
Gear of the Year nominations: Sire S5 (better than a Mexican Fender!), JHS Flight Delay (if they make a stereo version it would be the only delay I’d ever need!), that Jack White Amp (which I can’t afford… but it’s still a cool amp.)
Oh wow another fuzz pedal that just sounds like your gear is breaking!! I’m sure it’s super different than the hundreds of other “oUt Of CoNtRoL!!!” Fuzz pedals. Gonna sound great in someones mom’s basement
A review of various pedals, none of which include any sound demo, loses the point of the video. Reading lists of patch names is not a substitute. Really strange, as far as such videos go.
Gear of the year is going to be released on my birthday, what a nice gift Andy, thank you.
The daisy chain of the DiMarzio is EXTREMELY clear and WELL
explained in the launch video.
One of the best parts of my Sat morning. Thank you for such a great show. Keep it coming!
I ordered the Plethora X1 yesterday. Sweetwater is having crazy good deals on all TC pedals now!

Do it. I gave a friend a kazoo a few years ago and the family had a gas, fighting for it & playing "Guess the movie theme" & stuff. 🙂

As a gadget/tech nerd, having a power supply that can use a usb-c input and then run a pedal board seems very cool…

I have had mixed experiences with TC units but they can be excellent and this looks like a winner. I say buy two.
AAANNDDDYYYYYY great video!
Gear of the Year consideration: Agufish Signature by Harley Benton. Incredible value. Tons of features. Punches well above it's weight.

@wea69420 from what I've seen you can mod a RK5v2 but the v3 comes with it as standard
Ooooo that TC X1 is definitely very very likely on my Friedman IR-X board in the future…
I do wish TC will include the infinite in the Plethora X1. But maybe that will come with a future update.
The Infinite is an amazing pedal - definitely worth getting standalone.
Maybe, but I asked about it and the best they could offer was a maybe on something similar (no effect loop, no built in effects) so basically a freeze.

Yes, you can continually move the plugs around as your pedalboard changes.

£20 on gear4music!
So the XPND power is basically the Mission Engineering PD power adapter. With a The GigRig add on.
And the Whocathell is basically an Octa PSI.

To some degree, just the fact that it's not wall power is going to solve for the usual additional noise from combining digital and analog.
Have you played the PedalPalFX Pal800? That blew away any other MIAB I’ve ever played. I wonder how the heat seeker stacks up against that pedal?

Oh alright… I’ll take the blame 😂😂
The Plethora: I hope it comes with a loupe to see the screen. That is TINY.
GX10 by Boss should be there. Fabulous little unit. Much like Angus.
No toggle for pre sets on the TC?
I don’t get it. Can the X1 be more than one pedal at once? Or am I still better off with the X5?

Christmas is getting stomped this year.
Why can't I make my own drum tracks on any of these loopers? The TC had MIDI. How difficult can it be?
Demonstrating each of these pedals was my favorite part.. oh.. wait..
Is the adjustable daisy chain used by those who flash their headlights in car parks?

I get it, pick of the week, ha ha.
