- This Food Packet Assault is a lightweight restricted calorie 24 hour ration. Issued for up to 10 days in the field, it contains approx 1,550 calories and comes in 6 different menus. Used during non-resupply assault and recon missions where pack weight reduction and ease of eating on-the-go is a priority. Huge thank you to Jeff Hooper for making this one happen. He sent in 3 menus. Part 1 of 3 of a series.

This channel serves as the original purpose of the Ethernet, sharing knowledge. Steve, you are doing god's job here, by documenting all these rations and other rare stuff. Your channel is a museum. An internet museum, where people can come and see all those pieces of history and even look inside. You are documenting rarest of things on video, thereby saving bits of history, which are often forgotten.

I was born in ‘79. My dad was in the army national guard and I remember him bringing these exact MRE’s home. My friends would come over and we would open several of them during our night camping out in our back yards. We would dress like Rambo lol. Brings back good old memories. Thanks for sharing brother.

Sitting here watching a guy open and taste test rations over and over again and for some strange reason i really enjoy it. And i find myself waiting for the tray comment and the stirring of the coffee.

Well, after weeks of binge-watching 5 episodes at a time, per day, I am finally caught up. And to celebrate, I spent a few $ on eBay for some MRE's! A little disappointed on the first sale, as I thought I was getting 6 whole MREs but it's just 6 entrees - but whatever, I really just want to see one of the FRH's in action anyway! That being said, I found a whole MRE (beef ravioli) for a good price and it's the whole shebang, so I expect to have a good Army mochachino along with this ration when I get it. Overall, I still averaged ~$5.30 per piece (including shipping) so aside from the whole MRE, that's still not a bad price to pay for an entree. Those will be dinner over a few nights. I will be using a few tricks I saw here (like getting some corn nuts when I make tacos out of the chicken & black beans entree), too!
And I owe it all to you, Steve. Maybe one day I will get a foreign ration and try it out, but let me get my feet wet first, eh? Thanks so much for a great channel, and easily one of the nicest comment sections on RUclips.

I think MRE collecting is pretty cool. Its a historical item but the memory is the actual taste and eating experience. So theres a dilemma between keeping it and eating it. I agree with eating it.

@@Steve1989MRE I broke the fifth metatarsal in my foot while hiking Mesa Verde. At least I was camping and doing something I love. Hiking into the ancient Native American cliff dwellings is something you have to do in your life. Four years ago I tore my ligament in the same foot while rock hounding at Topaz Mountain in Utah. I believe my foot was still weak.

Hey Steve, I think a cool video idea could be about you designing your own ration to fit the criteria or needs of a chosen country, whether real or fictional. You can explain the reasons why you chose certain contents or packaging and why you think it would be the best choice. I think it would be pretty cool to watch.
I'd watch that :) - especially if his ration is shelf-stable for years (that's something I kind of dislike about MREs, their kind of short shelf-life! I mean civilian freeze-dried expedition and outdoor food lasts longer in most cases!)

Steve1989MREInfo Anything that's freshly cooked. Cooks yourself a nice juicy steak, I would love watching you eat that. Pasta, meatloaf, anything MREs may have but freshly cooked. If you are not good at cooking, I wouldn't mind watching you eat a restaurant meal at a diner or something.
If you have trouble eating fresh food, maybe start off with some TV dinner or something.
