My apologies for having to re-post this video - there were some technical difficulties that required it!
Hey there everyone, we have a 1976-78 (Between that specific period) Food Packet Long Range Patrol up for review, and this one turned out to be fully edible, and relatively decent considering it's age! Perfect for dinner! Get a front row look into what the men in uniform had to chow down on in the mid-late 70's. A true time capsule!
Hope you folks enjoy the review, and thanks so much, as always for watching/subscribing! Will come back with something new (or old) really soon!
-Steve

LET'S GET THIS OUT ONTO A TRAY, NICE™
NICE HISS™
I'LL BE COMING BACK AT YOU WITH SOMETHING NEW OR OLD, ALRIGHT COOL SEE YA™ - Развлечения
Steve needs to start adding a footnote to each recording telling us how he felt the next day. 😹
He's probably too busy puking to write much next day! LOL
wow he didn't say NICE when he put it on a tray the world just dont seem right anymore
It aint right bro, shit, I'm off out for a walk. NICE.
That's a bummer.
I feel like I got left hanging on a high five..
Good
I noticed that too!!
...has the US Military contacted you about researching your physiology after eating all of these for the purposes of future Ration R&D yet? I am so impressed you are still alive.
I think about that too. The amount of chemicals and preservatives he eats in these meals..
@Chris Ruiz ... wat
He has ate so much of it that his body has developed a tolerance of sorts I'm. Sure!
He will live to be 120 years old because of the preservatives!
There's vomit on his sweater already
1976 spaghetti
He's nervous
unnamed715 Chocolate's sweaty
But on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop boms
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🍝🍝🍝🍝
unnamed715 let's put that on the mix tape . Nice ! Mkayy
He's nervous but on the surface botchilism ready
Gym partner : nice workout what are you gonna eat?
Steve: spaghetti and meatballs from 1976.
@@engasal I can confirm.
This was my favorite LRP back in the day. After you put the water in, fold the packet over and put it inside the foil pouch. If you didn't have a heat source, you did the same thing with cold water and put the packet near your body during movement, letting your body heat do the work.
I don't why but these videos are so addicting
Yes me too! PLEASE SEND HELP
exactly what I was going to comment. at first I thought, why am I watching this? now I'm like....yes!
Just 100% curiosity.
Curiosity makes that ;)
Imma need treatment for this addiction.
When you said " lets get this out on a tray ......." , I waited for the "..nice " , but it didn't come ! I feel somehow deprived ! :-)
Same... :(
Same. It's almost like I am watching someone else I NEED the tradmark "Nice!"
same :(
Hahahahaha me too! I get a kick when he says NICE!
Right!
"i dont know why i took another bite" gets me every time XD
"Let's get this out on a tray..." :D..... :I ....... :/ ...... :( Nice?
pacmaninchains 😂😂 We're all sad when he forgets Nice.
pacmaninchains i never coment but it hurts when i dont hear "nice" 😣😣😣
Triggered!
pacmaninchains you forget the unh! Ok... Nice...
This is early Steve, before the "Nice" era!
"This one held up...wait, what's happening?!" Lol Steve you're fantastic, nice to see someone have genuine passion for this stuff. Great vids and I hope to see more soon, cheers man!
I wish much like Steve puts himself in frame trying the cigarets there'd be a shot of a bathroom door and commentary of him trying the toilet-paper.
Jon Juba lolol 😭😭💀💀
"I ate the 70 years old food and am having an explosive diarrhea, but good news, my butt now smell like mint thanks for these toilet paper."
@@gyrozeppeli00 nice!
I don't think the word "Nice!" would get used all that often.
I've never heard anyone say "Awwn, what happened?" while eating before. That's great.
OK I've figured out why you're so mesmerizing; it's because you have a standardized approach, like when Mr. Rogers puts on his comfy sweater to talk to the boys and girls, you put your MRE on a tray and say "niiice", speed up your stirs and can openings.
I think you are right esspee. He has kind of a melodic voice, draws you in.
Yep .😊
Lol that chocolate does sneak up on ya.. My wife tried it too, but she had no idea how old it was and took a big bite hehe... The look on her face was priceless, she wasn't a big fan of those disks that's for sure!
Well at least you can say you tried the catsup, I'm sure the spaghetti has similar ingredients!
I have to say this year of LRPs are fantastic... They really hold up and are good
+Steve1989 MREinfo thanks a million brotha got it in the mail just yesterday, fesh from Florida! Man, this stuff is awesome! I owe ya big time don't even worry! :) can't wait to see the Brit rat pack vid soon!
Finally someone calls ketchup, Catsup.
Lately I've been down and out like a mother.. your videos lift my spirits.
Hope your doing better 4 years later 🤗
@@giannasilvestri7045 I hope everyone is doing well 6 years later now!
@Reaper Productions I hope you are doing good too lad
@Reaper Productions Nice, gave you a sub, I'll try to watch it if it comes up for me
palmer chocolate, horrible childhood easter memories.
I'm pretty sure somebody out there, somewhere, gets shotgun diarrhea from mentioning that name alone.
'Cadbury' though? what's wrong with Cadbury's chocolate? do you guys have some kind of nasty cheap American version?
Yeah that chocolate is awful
1IbramGaunt Hershey.....it's oily and gross
Hershey likes to lie about it too, claim it's no different and hide the lawsuit, but here it is. splinternews.com/corporate-america-is-conspiring-to-keep-your-chocolate-1825514264
"Hey, what's happening?!"
Being confronted by the surprise rancidity and the typical confusion.
opening up a fridge full of moldy food..nice hiss
Lmfao!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Laughed out loud...
It wouldnt hiss
Lmao
I get so excited when you upload a new video, I always like to watch them during lunch :)
+Cassandra Costinak and I taught that I was the only one that did that :D
+Steve1989 MREinfo Totally! I'm really considering ordering some of the 2015 MREs, I mean they call it Zapplesauce! How cute is that?
+Tremayne Chetty It just works so well :)
+Cassandra Costinak I normally watch them while eating about the closest thing you can get to an MRE in a grocery store, Hungry Man frozen dinners!
+Soniti1324 I know they're very different, but in terms of the variety of foods in each meal, and yes, caloric density, it's the closest that you can walk into a normal store and buy. I can't think of anything else that's such a self contained, full meal in stores. Most other frozen foods are just an entree without a side or dessert.
Threw me off when he said "lets get it on a try" and didnt sat "nice" right after. I feel empty.
Mrburrito23 yeah wtf?
Nice.
This was before he said that regularly
"It just goes down real easy..." ...of course, it comes up real easy, too...
Antaine Ó hÓgáin Lmao!
Great video showing freeze dried is the way to go for long term storage.
Love watching these. Such a small part of history that not many people think of. Keep up the great work!
Spaghetti with meat sauce was one my favorite rations between 2003-2012. Was always on the hunt for this MRE. Thanks for the review.
I bought six of those metal trays on eBay just because of your videos. Love 'em. Wife thinks I'm weird. ;-)
2019 and Steve hasnt died from botulism. NICE.
Can confirm same in 2020
I love it when he says "lets get it out on a tray"
Nice
your reviews always make me hungry. this time i came prepared. got some carbonara right here
FalloutModReview TV dude, genius.
"It's shiny, disgusting..-takes a bite-. This is why I love your videos. It's that morbid curiosity that kills me. I'm always finding myself saying "WHY. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT AGAIN?"
I've been binge watching these for the past couple of days and it is so crazy to see the difference in commentary from this to current day.
for some reason in my depressed state, your videos lift me up. i remember my uncle giving me mre's when i was younger. it brings back a lot of good memories. they had a chocolate covered oatmeal bar that was to die for. i have never been able to find any since. its a shame. it was the best damn cookie ive ever had. You must of had those before, right? keep the videos coming my dude. i enjoy them thoroughly.
I just ate this exact LRP a few weeks ago I git off ebay. Mine tasted a little funky, but I didn't get sick. The chocolate was horrible. You should definitely film your facial expressions when trying different items. It would make the videos that much more epic.
You should do a frequently asked questions video.
Let's get this review on a tray. Nice. A big thumbs up Steve, as usual. You are, by far, the most knowledgeable ration aficionado on Tube.
That spaghetti reminds me of something similar we had at school.for lunch sometimes. We used to call it Maggots in Cow Dung, lol! Tasted nice, though.
Joanne Gray gotto love them American school lunches...inmates get fed better!
Feel so compelled to watch your videos whenever you upload! You come across as really nice guy on camera too - Incredibly passionate - quickly becoming one of my favourite RUclipsr's!? Keep it up, never thought I'd be a fan of video's like these hahaa.
This was my fav back in the day, a touch of Tabasco sauce helped immensely but it was very filling as a meal.in theearly 80s we could still get MCIs and the bread component was great with this. Finished it up with apricots from the MCIs
Steve was in rare form in this vid. Truly a SteveMRE classic
I really like the period photos you include at the beginning of your videos. Informative, and it puts things in context. Nice.
My father was SF during that time period and he told me he'd add water and roll it back up and put it at the top of his rucksack so when they got a break it was ready to do.
I have no interest in these rations, but I find it so therapeutic to watch, and so satisfying.
It's really getting me into food ration packets though haha.
Dude you're a truly brave soul or you have a cast-iron stomach, or both.
David Stegman Seems Steve was born with the defect of a true cast iron stomach. No one else can eat old food quite like Steve.
To put into perspective just how old this thing is..... it was at least two years old at the time that THE SHINING was being filmed. #funfact
We used to call those toffee rounds “John Wayne bars” and would take the poundcake and a hot cocoa mix add a few drops of water to make chocolate frosting out of it and then crumble one John Wayne bar over the top. Talk about a delicious treat! As always thank you for sharing…
I love your ration videos which I came upon accidently here...fascinating stuff man. Thanks!
Love your videos!! Can't stop watching them lol
rewatching your old vids Steve :)
still looks fresh, hope you're doing okay.
Never had any interest in MREs until I came across your channel! Thanks for the great videos!
I looked at the bag and nearly passed out, I live in Rochester. We're not famous for anything but this is awesome!
Also love seeing one of your videos! Continue the great work of taking a bullet for us and reporting how old food taste like.
wanna good instant coffee that's not acidic.. It's called Kava you can get it at Publix.. hands down the best instant coffee.. I make my own iced coffee with it.. it's perfect!
I know nothing about MRE's, but I find your videos fascinating and interesting. I stumbled upon your channel by accident. You deliver this information in a way that keeps my attention. SUBSCRIBED. Keep up the great work.
I have eating disorders but watching your videos helps a lot fam 😭💕
1970 Vietnam. When we could get it by trade or forage, these were very popular. My favorite was this one.
I miss the C rats. Working supply, I used to take a case or 2 with me when I went home on leave. 1974-76.
I tried some in vietnam in 1973 at Camp Holloway outside Pleiku. They were probably experimental rations. I think they were freeze dried and I liked them a lot.
I really like your commentary along the way, makes me chuckle quite a bit :) Loving the channel, awesome! :D
I'm in love with the intro
music on these videos.
You inspired me to hit eBay and purchase a couple of new MRE's just for the experiment of trying on. I probably could have looked for an older one, but my immune system sucks on a good day soooo, I may not live to talk about the cheese spread from 1945 lol.
+Steve1989 MREinfo Thanks! I will let you know. Maybe I will even do a video! Until than, live long and may you find insanely old cigarettes in the packs as a reward for your efforts! 😄🖖🏻
Is there any official documentation that could be used to get more info about these old rations? Like a government paper doing the inquiry for the ration and its specific components? Great video as always sir, take care!!!
"Shit Disks" is what these were called....Heath or Almond.
🤣🤣🤣
Being hurled at somebody at high speeds
9:55 lmfaoooooo "wait.. what's happening..?!" !@#$% 🤣🤣
We were issued the LRP rations while I was in Ranger School. we called the chocolate disks (sh*t disks) and sometimes they came with the cornflake bar/Lemon Bar/Breakfast bar-we called those particle boards.
Another good one Steve. Again, the thoughts of, oh yea, this is good.....wait..what....how?!? Why is this bad?!? Laugh every time.
I loved those Nestle Crunch want to be round, waxy, aluminum foil wrapped candy bars. I didn't mind them a bit. Much preferred them to the other chocolate covered white cream or coconut or fudge bars in he old B units in Rats. Those came in Rats too though.
I really love these videos. I have no idea why they are so mesmerizing. I definitely like the ones with the older rations the best. The older the better. Very cool!
Yum! hahahaI'm addicted to those MRE accessory packs. I buy them by the bulk. lol I don't even know why.
I'm eating spag bol now so wanted something to watch while I did. Steve instantly came to mind lol
This stuff isn't gonna review itself!
Logan N but on the surface he looks nice and ready lol
Great review~ I love watching videos of you eating old stuff~ lol~
Im so glad I stumbled upon these neat vids!
I just love watching your videos. Brilliant!
this videos helps me to relax i dont know why
Steve helps me sleep.
I eat my lunch at work to your videos. It's not bad, yeah, nice!
I was 3 years old when that mre was made.
Just discovered your channel the other day , pretty cool stuff man ...subbed, cheers
Just found out about your channel today, awesome stuff!
Steve, thank you man. I love your channel. Everybody thought I was weird for loving the MREs we got in basic. Have you ever gotten a hold of one of the old "four fingers of death" and sampled it on the channel?
You're know the only guy that actually entertains me now. Forget Mark or Jack.
“What happened it..uh.. will sneak up on you with that other flavor,I don’t get that at all...ugh.....gotta make sure though!!”(goes in for another massive bite) I love this guy lol
Damn you, your videos always make me hungry.
Good job, Steve. :)
Steve, you sir are a brave man "oh man, that other flavour? Sneaks up on you.. dude!"
I found some of the LRRP ration main courses in a surplus/sporting goods store back in 1984, before I shipped out for a long course at Fort Benning. I had read about the 'Nam-era LRRPs, but these seemed to be made afterwards. On field exercises, I got to try the LRRP spaghetti and the LRRP chili. They were a great alternative to the first generation MREs, which made everyone miss the C-rations. So, early 1980s, I was exposed to C-rats, LRRPs, and MREs. The LRRP meals did teach me to mix the freeze dried fruit with commercial oatmeal packets and hot water, which was a great way to warm up your hands in the winter.
haven't laughed like that in a while, the moment the chocolate turned, great vid best wishes man.
Edit. After reading through some of the comments it's pretty awesome to see your channel grow like it is, I hope it keeps up, I wonder if people would object to you opening up a patreon to get you some resources for all your putting into this or at least some healthcare, I for one encourage you to do so i and I'm sure a few others would throw some funds your way to help out.
I love how you know it's so old yet you can keep chowing down. haha. thats one thing I gotta love about you steve! you're a man of steel. aswell as just looking at that spaghetti it reminds me of my old high school days.
***** certainly true steve, I was never one to let a ration go to waste.
These are awesome to watch...very entertaining!
You must have a iron stomach Steve! That's awesome. Well done sir! 👍
Seeing you eat old food makes me want to eat old food. Nice!
Ate a ton of these at exactly the same era, 1976-79, when they were fresh, both in Jr. ROTC outings and Boy Scout camp. We also had those big DOD green cans of Pnut butter, which was the best ever. We called the candy “Ding Dongs” because of the bright foil wrapper, but nothing was better than that real Hostess treat. The scoutmaster had bunches of surplus everything, and I loved the canned cinnamon rolls and the Lima Beans and ham, which everyone else hated, so they’d pile theirs on my cot. At home I ate a LOT of Lima beans and black eyed peas, so I was used to it.
his dog farts next to him. "nice hiss, sweet!"
Thanks for the review Steve. All I can add about LRP rats from then- it was a different world. Meaning by that we ate what we got- never thought it was poor, or that we wanted better. As you hit on the weak point on the LRP was the need for heated water.
i dont know why but i love your MRE videos. keep it up.
Hey man, great videos ! I really enjoy watching you unpack these MRE sets, but in this case to reduce acidity just put a tiny bit of sugar in the mix and stir it up to get rid of that. It helps a ton, and won't give you heart burn quite as bad.
Id do anything to just hang out with steve and eat mres all day
I love the fluctations of emotions that Steve goes through when he tries the chocolate.
"In today's video I'm going to eat 40-year-old food and then be surprised that it tastes bad."
I love these videos.
In my army firefighter department 3 times a week we would have this for lunch in PTA Hawaii on the Big Island
Those chocolate disk were my favorite in the C rats. Those, the peaches or fruit cocktail.
I would dive into the rations looking for the chocolate
These are great! An BTW, when you go "Mhhrhmm, really old spaghetti", you kinda sound like Snake from MGS 3. :D
