Also, check out another great reviewer & friend:
    / stickyfingaz745
Hello everyone, this is a review of freshly opened components sent to me by my good friend and colleague, Ruleryak in the Military Ration field of documentation and inspection of older components.
I start ''digging in" to the food at 5:40.
Went back and noticed at 00:26 I somehow managed to cut off in editing the word "Survival" in the title presentation of the Ration. Just realized this after uploading/processing. My apologies. Also called the "Spreckles" sugar speckles - as I went back i noticed that was another verbal flub. Whoops!
Also, a valued subscriber made the much valid and respected comment that I did a little too much eating on camera with this one - I fully agree that it is an undesirable feature to munch away on camera usually. I excused that usual rule in this case to prove to you all this Ration was not only edible, but also fully enjoyable! Plus I had not eaten dinner earlier that night so I was a little hungry..! ;)
Will make sure not to be too gross on camera next time, my apologies, folks! Will make an edited short version of this video along with keeping this long version for you guys.
This Ration held up incredibly well for being over 46 years old. The Dehydrated Meat Bar, Ceral bar, and Fruitcake Bar were all 100% edible and tasted great. The instant tea and coffee were 100% intact and non-degraded. I somehow missed the taste test of the coffee, but I assure you I tried it out and it was dull, acidic, and sorta tasted like some old coffee you'd leave on the burner for a couple hours too long.
I have done an inventory, and I have enough material to provide reviews for over 2 straight years if I did 2 reviews a week.
So stay tuned, I have so much more ahead. This was perhaps not the most exciting review for some of you beloved reviewers because I did not open the main container for which these resided for the last 46 1/2 years, but I will more than make up for that with an upcoming Korean War-era SA-3 (Spam can Holy Grail).
    Thanks for watching everyone!
    -Steve

I really appreciate how down to Earth Steve is. He talks through things in a way that someone like me (no prior knowledge on MRE and having just basic knowledge of modern war) can understand. And his passion makes this topic so entertaining. I even love it when he goes 'off-topic'. Never change Steve, never change.

I appreciate how mind-blowingly professional Steve is in these videos. He keeps his personal life and ration review life completely separate. I've watched almost all of his videos 3 or 4 times, and I don't remember ever hearing about his dog in any other video. He knows the channel is about ration reviews, and he keeps it about rations reviews. He never tries to pad content or mix in irrelevant information. Steve is a man of many talents.

Those sugar cubes were made at the old Domino refinery in Brooklyn, NY (at the base of the Williamsburg Bridge on Kent Ave.). My father was one of the three safety & sanitation foremen at the plant back then and we had those same sugar cubes in our pantry at home (and a white & cream colored cat that was found in the refinery, named "Sugar Cube", and brought home as a pet).

"Que aproveche" spanish, translates as "Bon Appetite" or "Enjoy" or "Hope it does good to you" it's hard to translate as there is not a real word in english, but usually spanish speakers says "Buen provecho" or "Que aproveche" before you eat a meal, or if you walk into a restaurant and someone is already eating or leaving the place you may also say that.

I had no idea MRE opening vids were a thing until I stumbled across your channel. It's weirdly fascinating. Thanks for the introduction to... whatever this is :)
One thing I've noticed is that the older rations do seem to hold up better than the newer ones. One reason I can think of is that with the older ones they expected to keep and re-issue this stuff until it was gone to save money, so the older ones were made to last. The newer ones are likely made by the lowest bidder and are intended to be shelved only a couple of years then be discarded.

  • @donaldparlettjr3295

My dog loved the meat cakes but I did try them with onion mix but they were still horrible. Coffee was okay sugar cubes were just that sugar. The cereal bar was ok but still not the best. Steve... about 99% of fruitcake is Christmas gifts. ( CLaxton) Most of which is not eaten, but re-gifted to another " relative". As many of these are not re-discovered until the next year, it is not uncommon for a fruitcake to re- gifted about a dozen times, until they get to a suitably needy starved relative. Usually a young person /college student. It's not uncommon for a Christmas fruitcake to be eaten after about 14 years of re-gifting. :)

Good call not giving it to your dog scooter because onion is actually really bad for dogs in a small amount it wouldnt kill him but still causes damage and im usually the guy thats annoyed by people who are like "human food is bad for dogs" because of how horrible dog food is produced sometimes but tbh its cost effective so i try to give my dog certain human food when i can

Can't give any to my dog Scooter. It might make him sick. Munch, munch, munch. LOL.
Lots of respect that you didn't subject your dog to the taste testing. In general dogs have a stronger digestive system than humans, except yours. Man you must have a cast iron stomach!

I also believe that breaking up the corn flake bar in hot water and making amush out of it and adding a little sugar to it would be more like a comfort food to take your mind off your situation
