  • In this video we are going to create and assemble a really big, Star Wars based, 3d print using a whole lot of smaller 3d printed pieces. Not only that, but we have a unique method to show off that will greatly enhance the durability of any assembled part (wait until you see what we are building!)
    By assembling smaller pieces together into a larger part, we can open the doors to all new possibilities where size and budget are no longer limiting factors. Wait, why is budget not a factor? Because you don't need some gi-mondo, expensive 3d printer.
    Be sure to check out Infosmercal's first video where we electroplated a 3d print: • How-To Make Metal: Ele...
    This video demonstrates another way to creatively expand the possibilities of 3d printing by making something out metal.
    In an upcoming video, we are going learn how we can add a great fit and finish to any 3d printed part by sanding down, priming, and painting our Star Wars print from this video!

    Just on the gluing, I've been using this formula for many years now, and have always used the same approach. Glue the joint as normal, but use activator spray. Once you have a fix from that, put a light bead of glue over the seam of what you've just glued. Then sprinkle baking soda anywhere you see wet glue. Once you're covered, tap the item so the powder goes back onto your work surface, blow to release non attached particles, then repeat this until enough material has built up.
    Since you're gluing on the inside of the structure, for optimum strength I would most certainly use multiple layers, and even aim for quite a build up of material build up around the tight corners. The cement that is created is incredibly durable and lightweight. It has been the preferred method for some aircraft engineers if you need to fill a dink on a wing
    First I thought you were going to on the baking soda first then glue to seal it in. But you went with glue first, so all good. If you did lay down some powder and pour glue on top, your joint integrity would be at risk because you would almost certainly have pockets of powder which had not reacted with the glue.
    If anyone does glue themselves like I did, it is possible to sort it out without drawing blood, if you've got the patience. You have to find a nail file, then simply use the edge to saw away at the joint, making sure you're angled so the edge is pointing into the thing you're glued to. But do what he says to save time, and wear gloves. Superglue is very good at bonding skin. It's even part of it's development history as it was once intended to be a tool for battlefield medics to glue the wounded back together.

    I liked the Funnish route that you take on this one. We are ready for more frequent videos.

      +Wilfred Wulff thanks! Yeah you can count on more frequent videos now for sure. It’s not going to be daily, or I can’t even promise weekly for now (work and family life lol), but twice a month is about right for now.
      Eventually things will be weekly. Thanks for checking out the vid!

    Mix the baking soda and super glue to create a paste. Then apply along the seams. It's a great cheap-bondo and creates an amazing bond. Nice to see a fellow vaper not using it like theyre cooler than everybody else.

    • @Infosmercial
      @Infosmercial  6 лет назад

      Yeah the past is a good idea. The working time I found to be really short, but maybe I had the ratios all wrong.
      Lol I forgot my vape was in some of those shots to be honest. Oops haha.

      So what I do is take an old silicone slab from an old cast that was leftover in the bin (thanks Frank Ippolito!) and mix it up on that. I just take a little bit of powder and mix a little bit at a time. Working time is VERY short, you're right. haha

    Ive been using Gorilla Gel Superglue & Baking Soda. I feel like the Gel provides a larger accumulation of superglue and tends to pop out the sides. So there is more glue area to cover in baking soda. Then I take a dremel and dremel down the outside surface but leave the inside. Its the absolute best bond Ive found so far besides melting th two pieces together. Gel Super Glue and baking soda is so strong it will break the plastic before breaking at the seem

    • @Infosmercial
      @Infosmercial  5 лет назад

      Seriously the baking soda trick is so insanely strong it’s stupid. Seriously, you’ll wreck the 3d print before you wreck the bond.

    I have a 13 piece project with about 10% infill and the pieces are about 4-6 inches wide and will make it about 52 inches long. My plan was to use loctite super glue but I’m unsure if that is going to hold it together. Any ideas or opinions would be appreciated.

    • @Infosmercial
      @Infosmercial  4 года назад

      Using loctite super glue and then sprinkling baking soda on it and quickly sealing the pieces will lead to a cement like bond. Not brittle at all like regular super glue. Then just sand down the seams (using a proper respirator mask in we ventiltated areas). Should work great.

    You could have printed it in abs and use acetone to bond parts together

    • @Infosmercial
      @Infosmercial  6 лет назад

      +Eduardo Morales Yeah I agree. I do this on smaller parts or where timing isn’t critical. The huge benefit to this method is that the bond seems to be just as strong, but the result is almost completely instant.
      Both methods have their place.
      Thanks for watching, btw!
