@@m4a1snerfed Honestly, mate. I feel like you can't just move on from CSGO and I feel sad for you. I played other games other than csgo and I'm still feeling fine with it. You could learn a thing or two
Thorin's problem, IMO, is that he often takes strong ideological stands for what he thinks is right, and is annoying about them. When he does it for the right reason (ex: not working with ESL because they robbed NA of hard earned slots) people forget the original (good) reason, and he just comes off to a lot of people as annoyingly self-righteous. When he does it for what people believe to be the wrong reason, it's never forgotten.
It seems that was a lesson he taught Frosk well .
I literally just read that in your voice.
Make a video about vertigo. Pls
True, but at least he actually has principles and will stick to them though! Unlike many of the fake people who work in eSports.
Personally I wouldnt work for ESL as they are owned by the Saudi and I like my homosexual friends with their head still on their body
the dude just picked a lot of wierd hills to die on for absolutely no reason
yeah, that sums it up
Dying on multiple hills consecutively or even simultaneously sounds frightening
Rather die to something that you think is morally right or just take the money and shut up.
Better to die defending your beliefs than bending the knee to ESL that is owned by the Saudi government

I used to like Thorin because I thought he wasnt scared of speaking his mind when teams played bad. But until this video I completely lost track of him. Thank you for the update :D
I mean as well as I remember especially from 2013-2016. He was really well liked.
Theres a lot of details missed but he still makes good content and is really miss represented :D I dont look at twitter but youtube is great
I love your skins content but also really love your commitment to addressing broader topics within the CSGO community as a whole
It is absolutely bizarre how staunchly he stands by his takes on players. The CS scene is CONSTANTLY changing, new talents rise, old players have comebacks that no one could've seen coming- but most importantly than that, I think the one thing the community values is respect for the legends of the game. It's pretty obvious that a lot of hate for Thorin is because of how strongly he doubles down on usually controversial statements, but goddamn it is avoidable when it comes to the game and players aspect.
shroud is the most overrated player in cs history
@@user-cc3ef7qh1x agreed
I mean his criticism of Niko is a good example about how his criticism isn't unfounded
so does thorin when it benefits the story he is telling. Then respect is very important, but he wants the respect for him and his peers, not the one he wants to shit on
Even if it may be bizarre, I think that the fact it is constantly changing is why people need to make less of a big deal of what he says. If the scene wasn't constantly changing and he blatantly devalued the best players or team it would make way more sense for people to bash him, no? Because the fact that the scene changes a lot more now than it has in various points in the past is why I think his takes and their controversial status make a lot more sense and why they shouldn't be branded as idiotic.
good documentary, would love to see more of those , we have/had lots of interesting personalities on csgo scene.
I like this, you did a fairly good job of remaining impartial. An interesting divergence from skins content, which is a niche, and therefore automatically more difficult to find topics for.
"Fairly good job", do you think that because you agree with him?

Ive always loved thorin. No one comes close to his content and analytical standpoint and his ability to cross over ideas from real sports to esports. Thorin is a great person in the scene.
I think you missed a key detail. After ESL stole Pro League spots from teams that had qualified for that league, Thorin refused to work with ESL until they publicly apologized for it and fired the people who had made the decision. ESL obviously didn't do this, but guess who also runs like 80% of the CSGO circuit? That's right, ESL. You also didn't mention that the fallout with his tweet exchange with Dev1ce was that Blast wouldn't work with him anymore unless he made several concessions regarding what he could and couldn't tweet (if I recall correctly), which he refused to do. Anyway, it's not surprising that he's doing less events now as a result of these two things.
You're right, and the issue with Blast was specifically about what he could and couldn't say about Bl(astralis)

Met Thorin at MLG Columbus, nice guy but he was very awkward. However, Moses and Chris Puckett might have been two of the nicest, most down to earth people.
I believe he is on the spectrum, so it’s not surprisingly that he wouldn’t be great at a casual interaction with a stranger
When you said "How has this star-analyst turned into a such wildly disliked guy" is expected you just gonna say "twitter" and end the video right there
Loved the conclusion - awesome video!
I never heard of this guy before (like actually) and holy 11 minutes in, there is so much lore. It feels like 100 years worth of information lmao
Very nice video, kinda new to csgo lore or whatever but I learned a lot and enjoyed it. Love the effort and RUclips better not do some funny business with add revenue here
Ive always loved listening to his "counter points" podcast. Havent done so in a few years tho but I never realised he was so hated back then
So much research and footage has flown into this video wow!
Ah, worst comes to worst, he can always do case unboxing videos!
Wow I never knew he made tweets defending Alex Jones post Sandy Hook, that's a special kind of fucked up. And his excuse is just dumb. "I wouldn't claim to know enough about the Sandy Hook shooting. I don't know what why he said what he said, but I believe he has since said he was wrong about it". Maybe do research about subjects like this before making comments about them then? You'd think a journalist would understand this
Either he has L takes or BASED takes, there's no in-between
Keep making videos, I'm excited for source 2 coming for release and I'm wondering how it's gonna affect the market and you're the best one to explain that
Seeing that Destiny and Thorin at one point on a podcast together is insane LOL
When Thorin is professional he is by far my favorite esports related figure. Guy offers years of insight and always stands by the players. I just wish the dude would have deleted twitter years ago.
It's a lot easier to like people like Thorin and Richard Lewis if you don't follow or pay attention to their twitter. Just from a content perspective, their desk work during tournaments, their interviews, articles, podcasts and things were always some of the best in the esports scene. But they are both constantly on twitter and have a need to engage and argue on there was always going to either eventually burn them out on the scene or destroy them. It's a shame as I always appreciate people willing to call out org's, players, and anyone else for bullsh*t or playing badly/not doing enough and I don't think we get enough of that outside of them.
Thats definitely it. On any type of comment section it doesn’t really matter what you say there will always be someone that hates your opinion. I think those two guys are great examples of people that don’t respect their audience because from their perspective they are surrounded by idiots. This lack of respect, while funny sometimes, usually rubs people the wrong way. They fall into the trap of calling people idiots, which is really not a useful thing to do, because no idiot was ever accused of being an idiot, and was inspired to self reflect and agree that yes, “I am and Idiot, lets change that”. No, the idiots will always be idiots. It especially doesn’t help that idiots also call other people idiots, it all just devolves into namecalling and a waste of time. You can’t help people that don’t want help.
Thorin being considered a journalist is hilarious. The guy digs around for drama more than anything. He's basically the DramaAlert of CS

It’s wild to see Thorin have beef with different faction of esports. The 3 main esports I watch are CS, OW, and CoD…he(and Richard Lewis) had some form of issues with all 3, multiple times. I think it’s that he is a decent analyst and has knowledge on esports but he just has so many emotional outbursts and reactions to things and just doesn’t act professional at times
He makes it too easy to make fun of him and get under his skin
Heyzeus casually referencing animes thinking all his viewers understand the context baffles me xD
Phillip made a mountain from a mole hill, saw bad feelings where there were none, and in general just outed himself as a complete weirdo.
While this is great Its slightly disingenuous in that the "decline of his career" is based off of twitter followings and major tournament attendance. I'd be interested to hear what he could be up to from behind the scenes or outside of esports, I understand you can only go so far with investigative journalism but I bet reaching out to the guy wouldn't be hard.
True, but it might be hard. Not everyone wants to tell their side. Even harder when it could be potentially a lie or half-truth. But we'll never know.
This is not even close to the limits of investigative journalism
But then you'd have to interact with him.
@@Rogueist Not necessarily, have you ever seen Nardwuar?
agree i do see him as hard blacklisted from alot of people, maybe the player association, we wont do interviews if he is there and stuff like that.
Thorin and Richard Lewis are like case studies for the impact of being terminally online. Both of them are middle aged men who let internet comments, criticism and opinions take up way too much space in their heads and let social media turn them into negative, cynical and frankly unhappy people.
Not trying to hate, both of them are capable of great things but sad to see the effects of years and years of social media impacting them the way it does, neither of them come across as positive or optimistic people.
internet comments affect everyone and everything. jan 6 was started with internet comments, qanon was started with internet comments, many mass shootings started with internet comments. governments have to completely censor social media because it's being used to either spread propaganda or shit down on people who aren't rich or don't look like they were running and dancing since they were 6 years old.

it’s a shame because he had such potential to be the “bad cop” journalist of csgo but he just couldn’t keep his mouth shut
He was also dogshit and annoying, middle age man who was never even competent at the game, just cringe
He's honestly a perfect example of being able to dish it out while not being able to handle any criticism in return. It's kind of funny how sensitive he is given how much he's attacked others for supposedly being overly sensitive in the past lmao.
He wanted to be Stephen a smith/max Kellerman so bad but esports scene doesn’t really like that style of commentary
@@rdbh8758 I think that commentary has less weight amidst the controversy. It's much harder to see someone's side when they aren't able to remain professional. It's one thing just to have hot takes on a sport, another to be an ugly person all the time.
"this journalist just could't keep his mouth shut about stuff i like"
Theres a thin line between having unpopular takes and just being negative and rude. Most people who claim to "tell it how it is" are just looking for an excuse to say irresponsible things, and the worst part is they're rewarded for it with attention.
Was expecting a hit piece but this was a great vid!
This maybe an unpopular take, but as someone that follows csgo from early 2014, i actually liked Thooorin the whole way. I like the controversial takes. I like that he doesnt pick and choose what he says he just says it no matter what how outrageous it is. Unfortunatelly for most people the "wrongs" he does will always overshadow the huge amount of great work he did for CSGO as an Esport.
I somewhat agree with you. But the world we living in, journalists must behave. Beside, if your controversial mouth miss a beat, you're dead so they often choose the safe way.
i agree, his work in the industry interms of making analysis are always bangers, even if he has drama, i never dislike him because his content on people underpeforming or teams not that and this is too fire
he is doing his job, as an analyst and journalist, yes he may take it far but thats his job and i guess philosophy, be true
Probably the most interesting character you've covered, great video.
this boutta be good video fr
I mean Poland is a very big part of CSGO in EU, so it's not hard to see why so many people dislike him
It's one of those times where his personality helps in some areas and dooms him in others, he's extremly logical so when talking about Cs, joining/leaving teams etc he makes total sense because he's using information and logic, but then that also leads him to have some questionable opinions on things outside of the game that's not agreed with
Like the Poland thing, he's not necessarily wrong. But he probably just shouldn't of said it
Good take
Incredibly bad take mate. Wad he right??? He was. Is that a bad thing? No! It should be encouraged. Grow a spine

Thorin is a good representation of esports. Ethuggery, attitude, no holds barred; all what gaming used to be before it became widespread to low competitiveness individuals
Thorin is a thorn in everyone's side.
I think he tried to put on a bit of a Jeremy Clarkson suit at 3:05 lol
Hey Zeus, Love the Videos. Wanted to start a channel similar to this one, and Disrupt. Wondering what microphone your using / recommend, would mean alot!
😂 So people just hate Thorin because he is 1. unpopular; 2. being straight, rude and upfront on things; 3. willing to speak from a different perspective than the general public.
He warned us of Regi yrs ago; he told us about Danny as well; he did a long discussion on women and esports long before the whole movement began. He might be rude and direct all the time, sometimes, he speaks of the truths and that's what he does. As always, the truth is never subtle and soothing.
But yeah, children are always more than the adults. A smack on the head is a wake-up call not exactly an abuse, but these days, kids will say you are abusing them anyway. Funny thing, his videos might not always have high views, but his subscriber number is growing since. In contrary, Travis is losing subscribers.
Hating a man for being rude is one thing, but when he speaks of the truths, you listen to that. Who can be always right on predictions anyway? Not even Crumbz The Prophet got everything perfectly right.
YamatoCannon is downright harsh on LCS PA's demands and how immature they are; Thorin at least isn't that strong on that. Also, time will tell who's telling the truth, and you know damn right, Thorin is mostly a bit closer to the truth.
(But yeah, Alex Jones part, he should have just kept to talking about eSports like he does now! 😂 Never talk about something you didn't do a long hard amount of research)
I love thorin’s content to this day. You have to many “yes men” and people who are too scared to damage their careers to have “hot takes”. He doesn’t give a flip and I love it.
thats what journalist do
Hot takes are fine but a lot of the time he doesn't seem to even know anything about the game so instead he just chooses to say incendiary things about people/orgs in the scene.
@@davidnymann5423 I mean, working 8 majors you’d think he knows a thing or two. The most interesting part of this video is how bad it makes Slasher look. Dude has one comeback, and it’s “you make the esports community look bad.” I’ve always disliked Thorin because, to me, he’s always seemed very arrogant, which I dislike; but this video managed to make me lose respect for Slasher, too, which is impressive.

I appreciate the content that Thorin puts up most of the time. I see the arrogance as part of a character he's playing for his work, as well as a coping mechanism.

I think it, as a coping mechanism, helps him push thru certain things and get his work done, so it's hard to take it (the arrogance) seriously or be offended by it for me personally.
But I can't fault anyone for being rubbed the wrong way by it.
There's def loads of talking heads out there that rub me the wrong way as well, and maybe some of those are cases of me just not understanding the person.
