When his test for monkey climbing tree came, I was literally praying for him. His dedication of 11 years is enough why someone beyond 7 seas is praying for him.

Ranton (a former shaolin dude) has a video on this. The guy was already a Shaolin warrior monk for years and this test was only for the camera. Also, Ranton had said that never in his time did he hear of a formal test to progress. I recommend watching his videos for an actual look into the real shaolin temple.

Wow! I was able to meet the abbot in the past, and I was amazed by the culture and dedication. As part of a morning prayer, the monks were able to stand still for hours without any emotion or movement, only stopping for a small lunch (a bowl of light soup). Very nice of BBC to show how the monks' dedication and hard work.

I think the examiner monks are trained to show no emotions, at least during the exam. They said "you failed" to one of them with a straight face.
His eyes said everything. You can't hide emotion. The only true way to hide emotion is to be a sociopath. Study your way to being emotionless, study your way to sociopathy.

Shaolin monks are essentially all vegan, and don't eat onions and garlic
Not to take anything away from the tremendous accomplishments of the monks but having discipline, like waking up early or exercising consistently is a much, much easier (or let's say: more probable) when you are in such an environment.
You would follow your diet, if everybody around you did as well and if not following it would mean paying an immense cost (like having to leave your family).
This could be a movie ; I was cheering when he nailed the technique, yet still nervous about the recital, great story.

@Philip Arvanitidis Muslim people called Hafiz memorize the entire Qur'an, which is about 600 pages and it takes approximately 2 years. Students who became Huffaz at my school did it alongside their regular middle school education. As of 2019, there are 78,000 such people MaShaAllah

But I know that languages evolve over time and simple sentence structure changes can be enough to make people confused, so imagine when the meaning of words themselves change. It's plausible. I'm Malay and I can't fully comprehend some Malay texts that date a mere 500 years ago, and I won't even be able to read it if it's from a different region of the Nusantara, so just imagine a Chinese trying to understand their "mother tongue" from about _2000 years_ ago.
