    Thank you for the recipe .may I ask how long have you been using it? I am afraid it may damage parts of the dishwasher on the long run

    Bleach for mold issues, from what I heard, will evaporate and leave surfaces wet and again an environment for mold. What I used to use in a particular house was sea salt and thyme oil. I would spray the window sills just a little and other problem area and I found it helped. My nose loved thyme oil for some reason, and it may be that it is a touch substance and combating mold, and is the basic ingredient in some industrial mold busting products.

      Hi! Glad to have you here! No so this recipe is really only to be used as a rinsing aid in the dishwasher. It doesn't contain soap so it cannot be used to wash dishes or clean anything.

    How does long term use affect the dishwasher. Has anyone experienced any issues causing the dishwasher not to work after prolonged use of this recipe.

    Do you have a powder dishwasher formula too

      No I’ve only got the liquid one. I tried powdered for a while and it was awful!

    • @CatboyChemicalSociety

      thats hard to make as it is comprised of something known as sodium percarbonate.
      you can make it youself but it requires some nasty chemicals and cannot be substituted.
      you can react sodium carbonate and 30% hydrogen peroxide and carefully dry to get a solid bleaching powder used in these.
      you can also use carbamide peroxide which is an adduct peroxide of urea and hydrogen peroxide.

    Hi, can we replace citric acid with baking soda.

  • @CatboyChemicalSociety
    @CatboyChemicalSociety 2 года назад

    idk I wouldnt use essential oils in rinse aid as they can actually dissolve the rubber of the dispenser. some essential oils such as orange/lemon oil and pine oil and lavander oil are powerful solvents that are incompatible with some plastics and most rubbers.
    The vinegar and citric acid is a good call but its missing some important surfactants to which you can use some dishwashing liquid or other pH stable surfactants or even just a bit of rubbing alcohol or ethanol but not too much.

    • @MyMerryMessyGermanLife
      @MyMerryMessyGermanLife  2 года назад

      Yeah the surfactant is in the dishwashing detergent - this is just a rinse aid to get the soap residue off of the dishes. If you add in another surfactant, you’ll then have two surfactants in the dishwasher and there will really be buildup on the dishes. The amount of essential oil in the recipe is really small compared to the volume, so I didn’t have any issue with it breaking down the plastic. But if you’re concerned about that, i totally understand and they can easily be eliminated. ☺️

    Pretty sure chlorine gas is created when mixing chlorine and ammonia, and is purple gas.
    Bleach also shouldn't be used on mold, as it can cause the spores to go airborne and can ultimately cause spreading.

    There is sodium lauryl sulfate in the Dr. Bronner's Castle Soap!

    • @MyMerryMessyGermanLife
      @MyMerryMessyGermanLife  2 года назад +4

      Yes the reason SLS is toxic is because of the way it’s processed. Dr. Bronner’s processes it in a way that eliminates the toxic byproduct. I have more info about it in the blog post which is linked in the description. 😄

    • @HestiaBHN1
      @HestiaBHN1 10 месяцев назад

      I don't think so! I've used Bronner products for years. The castille soap has no SLS. BUT, the Bronner Sal Suds DOES have SLS.
