  • I am in love with this DIY dishwasher pods recipe. Previously to making these ourselves, we would purchase the powdered washer, and this recipe works so much better. Best of all, it is zero waste and frugal, two things important to us on the farm.
    3 Ingredients, no borax! Simple to make, and convenient to use.
    1 cup Washing Soda
    1/2 citric acid
    1 tablespoon dish soap
    I always make a triple batch for extra convenience. The original recipe makes about 12 dishwasher tablets.
    We are sharing this recipe because it really works! And you can make your life even easier, and just mix the powders together for a scoopable detergent.
    Let us know what you think!

    Comments got deleted on this video years ago. But, originally I had a conversation with someone that lead to me doing PH testing on my home detergent vs a store detergent, and this detergent held up. It really does the same as the store bought powders. I still use this recipe, but instead of fussing with packing it into pods, I just mix the ingredients and then let it dry, before crumbling it up and storing it as a powder in this same container.

      Thanks for the update! That's a very smart move rather than going through the hassle of using mold trays of some such. I will be trying this out. 👍

    I'm a man making this for myself today! lol totally bummed I've been using Costco pods for the last couple of years. They're no doubt leaving all kinds of micro plastics all over my kitchen stuff.

    Thank you! I am currently using 3 drops of dish liquid to a tablespoon of baking soda for my countertop dishwasher. It works better than the walmart brand ( we have VERY hard water) but still a bit hazy. I'm going to make this.

      No need to use Rinse Aid. All you need to do is slide out all trays and air dry as soon as the operation is done. Believe me it’s spot free. Tried and tested.

    I have really, really hard water and commercial products always leave a residue on some dishes. I have a mini dishwasher that doesn't have a rinse aid dispenser. So, I have to wash some dishes by hand. It's the kind that sits on the counter. Love it. I get great results with this formula. Nothing crazy and super simple to make. I just use two of those silicone bottom ice cube trays of the right size. I don't make a huge batch and I made a small batch the first time as I wanted to test them before I made a larger batch. Thank you so much for this video

    Clarification please, are you saying these dishwasher tabs REPLACE normal dishwasher detergent, or are they in addition, or perhaps used once a week to super clean? Also, would using laundry detergent instead of the Dawn be ok or better since laundry soap doesn't suds much? Thank you!

    • @JaguwarSims
      @JaguwarSims 7 месяцев назад

      Let's explore together (I just made my first version of homemade pods).
      The idea here is to REPLACE your regular pods.
      Most recipes have some variation of this.
      Also, I wouldn't use Dawn or most commercial dish soaps. Instead I'm using Castille soap from our favorite crazy man, Dr. Bronner.
      Next batch, I'll try my homemade dish soap, made with Sal Suds (also a Dr B product), vinegar, and distilled water.

      I wouldn't. But you could use just the 2 mixed as a powder. Having a little bit of surfactant from the dish soap is nice though to keep fats from clogging up stuff

    • @thewayteacher
      @thewayteacher 4 месяца назад

      I was wondering that too, but if you read again carefully what she said in her comment you have to wait for the mixture to dry and then crumble and the only reason you would have to do that is if there is dish soap. So yes.

      I wouldn't. Soap and detergents are the same thing, and I think there would be a risk with soap of damaging the washer. But you could leave it out completely

      Sounds like rinsing is an issue for your dishwasher. And one thing to check: the filter. Make sure to clean it monthly. Also, I bet water hardness impacts the efficacy of this recipe. But it looks solid.
