I found your channel explaining the form. I definitely subscribed and once again started to do the form. If you have any suggestions by all means it will be welcome. Excellent explanation of the form and demonstration. Thank you I truly enjoyed it and gave me flashbacks of old times in Brooklyn.
This is a wonderful video on the WHY of the form. So many sage pearls of wisdom that have either reinforced or expanded my knowledge of this beautiful system. After so many years of training this style I started getting really disheartened because I knew my training was being lost in the chaos of traditionalism. This way of disseminating the knowledge, science and practically of VT is absolutely ESSENTIAL if Ving Tsun is going to survive and evolve. Thank you sincerely Sifu Jason you have my gratitude and a new fan!
I have watched a lot of Kung Fu movies since childhood and now I want to learn something about the art of Wing Chun, but when you search for videos in RUclips about this martial arts, most of the Instructors just teach how to do it but didn't tell much on why you do it, this video boost my goal to practice it more, Thanks a lot Sifu!!
I personally do go for a closer, deeper stance while training this form. My reason for that is I had a knee injury a while back and getting back into martial arts has been my rehab. I stand deep because it is great in building knee and thigh strength and a great way to build back up to wider stances like ma bu. So I use sil lim tao to get energized and relaxed in body and mind, for its own sake, and before any training. Especially boxing. My arms and whole body have never felt more at ease and therefore helping my punches and movements to be more accurate, fluid, crisp, and powerful. Just sharing a little for two reasons. 1. to let the strictly traditional folks know that no one style is best. The more you learn the more you can forget and express yourself more like yourself in training and in combat. 2. To let the modernist fighters know that every art is worth it, no style is outdated, the only thing that can make it "fake" or "useless" is the limits within your own mind when learning it. Thanks for the videos sifu. Amituofo!

We always keep the elbow low and rise up with the punch ( by lowering the center of gravity ) This way it won't telegraph and is more subtle. We want our strikes to be " invisible " hits. And we do the same thing we always want to be at that safe angle ( fit into the seams ) so we can always hit our opponent but he is going to have a hard time hitting us. With correct positioning we will always have superior timing there fore you can always beat him to the punch. We do this by being sensitive to every little movement his body makes. Awesome video! The centerline concept is extremely important to understand. You do the best way of teaching its importance. I almost forgot the first thing you spoke about which was all about foot work. What's the use of being such an effective striker if you are not in the right position to execute. If I was to do a book report about this video I would say it's about giving the viewer an introduction to show how you combine technique and tactics built on solid structure based on muscle memory and physical awareness. The journey of creating positive habits that will serve you well. You are a great instructor. SIFU!!
great explanation, the facts about the injuries, and the cover hand driving towards the center were wonderful. The idea of suddenly shoving the guys head into a nearby object had not occurred to me, if he is falling drive that head into the ground or a wall.
@@JKDandWingChun is there any way to adopt these things to what I am already?I am five ten 240 lbs strong as an horse. I don't have a lot of natural hand speed, I like the wing chun stuff because it is good for shorter people not so reach dependant. The blocks are all close to the body so they shadow a lot of my body, and the opponent, has to reach way deep to touch to me and then when the opponent is trying to step back I try to catch a hand or something and push forward, while I am beating him with the other hand. The smaller quicker person wants to step in hit and step out, over and over.I can take a beating pretty well. if I have ahold of the other guys hand or arm and I am yanking that hand around to keep them off balance I got a reasonable chance to win.In general if we get tangled up and fall I will be sure to push that head towards the ground so it hits first.
doctor hardscrabble of course you can adapt Wing Chun to your personal attributes. That’s what it’s all about! Each of us want to take the structure and principles and make them work for us. Look at it in boxing: Tyson boxed according to his attributes and Floyd his. You can do the same thing!! Thanks again for watching and keep practicing.
@@JKDandWingChun I I found great interest in the asking hands position and your disdain for it as a stance.I love the fence position of the hands you suggested, in the current world it plays well with the judge as you suggested and it keeps the hands up to slow down a sucker punch. I thought the asking hands position was higher up and closer in front of your face, elbows tight in.The hand forward is a mirror of the opponent. If he is in a boxing stance, my forward hand is on the same side of his body as his forward hand. This is so he cant drive up the middle. If he punches with the closer hand my hand is so close to my face and my elbows tight in not much target. When he jabs like that I try to push it to his center as I block. If I am outside the other hand fires an over hand punch. The second time he jabs I kick a front knee early. If I can't get out side of his jab that other hand is right by my head to block his knock out shot and I am stepping in close head butt hammer fist bite slap that hand is up there blocking already anyway. The asking hands position is the slow mans position. The hands are high in front of each other for better vision, and quick short sloppy blocks the elbows tight.I am already beat and resigned myself to the guy is going to hit me, it is a matter of how hard, and where. If I am driving into him he can't hit very hard and he may fall down.
Thanks for the explanation. Never trained in Wing Chun. Started out in boxing. Our boxing coach taught us to get out of the traffic lane and attack/counter from the shoulder. Whoever controls the angles controls the fight. Lamenchenko is a good example of this principle in action. He's rarely in his opponent's traffic lane but his opponent is always in his. Sabaki Karate, the brainchild of Joko Ninomiya, also emphasized the ability of a smaller person to defeat a larger one by quickly moving to the outside of the opponent's power and changing the angle of attack before the opponent can react or reset. The ability to do this is a strategical advantage no matter what the fighting style. What works...works. What doesn't...doesn't. Some principles have a broad application and translate across the lines of style. This is certainly one of them. Would like to learn more. Thanks again...
Nabeel Shahid so glad to help. Wing Chun is such a great system but misunderstanding of the core principles is hurting its reputation and killing our confidence in it. Thanks for watching.
That was an extremely informative and excellent video as to why and how to WingChun. I would love to have an instructor as yourself. Most of these WC guys don’t explain and even less teach these days and that’s the reason why people are abandoning WC. I could never find a school I was truly happy with here in New York.
NoWayAsWay71 real happy to help. And that’s exactly why we decided to make the video, frankly. Anyway, we’ll keep posting and maybe you can get down here one of these days for one of our training camps.
Have you tried Practical Wing Chun in New York, our lineage teaches and explains why we do things very structured and clearly. Including the very important tactics and concepts explained in this video. Surely there must be other 'families of Wing Chun' who teach just like in this video *Great Wing Chun is all about angling your opponent and making things work for self-defense
This is great stuff, very informative, easy to understand and this greatly added valuable knowledge in my study of Wing Chun... Now I think I know why JKD and WC trapping techniques are focused on the side or slightly in it... Thanks for the lesson!

I did wing Chun 15 years ago for 3 years and got into a fight on a building site with a giant fat guy .He threw the first punch which I blocked but I was only 78 kg and I fell back in a ditch as you said tight area I got up and with lightning speed absolutely smashed this guy.The pics from the cops showed his head absolutely busted up ,this works when you need it no doubt.💪👊
MV A wow. Glad to hear how your training protected you. That’s exactly what it’s for - self-defense In terrible environments like that. Bad footing. Bigger enemy. Good for you.
*sarcasm* But... but that's impossible! I've been told Wing Chun doesn't work in a real fight! Seriously though, good to hear it worked. When it's trained right, martial arts really do work. I'm hoping to find a WC school that actually has a serious component for self-defense application.
@@Outrider74 The reality is that if the person training a MA doesn't spar, they don't know how to fight. Whether they can beat another person by natural ability is a completely different matter.
@@lp9140 I sparred in Taekwondo, and I never learned how to "fight." When your sparring consists of tournament rules, it's not realistic, and you will fight the way you train.
@@Outrider74 very true, I was lucky enough to find a Wing Chun school that really emphasized mostly on real fight applications and was focused on self-defense, and that apart from teaching traditional WC it differed from it to make it more diverse and useful in various real life scenarios that aren't extensively exmplored in traditional WC like ground fighting. As you said sparring, although useful to develop a lot of skills, doesn't really teach you how to fight for real, that's why it's important that aside from sparring your teacher hammers down on how a real fight works and how to take advantage of everything at your disposal, not by following certain rules

Yes .It was not explained by most sifu .Randy has done a great job to enlighten us .Thanks a lot man
Awesome that you describe the thinking behind the practice--super aware--thank you, Jason!
nice relaxed clear instructions thankyou
This is an excellent video.
SIFU!!
Thanks for watching and so glad the video was helpful and edifying for you. 🙏
Great video, Thanks Sifu, makes a lot of sense.
Swear I’m making my way to Greenville at some point. Thank you Sifu!
Kevin Hayden thanks, Kevin. Glad you liked it and thanks a bunch for the support.
Wow! Good stuff! Can I be in one of your videos?
Brian Powers Lol. What? You wanna put Randy out of a job?
@@JKDandWingChun didn't know it was a paying gig! Lol! Billy needs a job you know!!
Kevin Hayden he had a video talks about wing chu is not practical .. and In here is teaching ?!?! Wtf.. what a hypocrite
great explanation, the facts about the injuries, and the cover hand driving towards the center were wonderful. The idea of suddenly shoving the guys head into a nearby object had not occurred to me, if he is falling drive that head into the ground or a wall.
doctor hardscrabble glad to help and thanks a bunch for watching.
Excellent and logical explanations of applied Wing Chun! Well done Sifu!
steve brindle thanks. I’m humbled to be able to help. 🙏
Greenville Academy of Martial Arts South Carolina? I seriously need to move there. This. Is. Amazing. Salute!
I would like to first thank you for making this video 🙏🌺💛
Bruno Borer love the Loma reference! Absolutely!
Theres also a fighter named dominick cruz.
Brilliant. Superb. Thank you kindly for sharing your knowledge Sir.
Nabeel Shahid so glad to help. Wing Chun is such a great system but misunderstanding of the core principles is hurting its reputation and killing our confidence in it. Thanks for watching.
Greenville Academy of Martial Arts Gotta admit you hit the nail on the head with that comment.
Kevin Hayden thanks! That’s why I started the video series, in fact. Anyway, so glad - and humbled - to help.
Hi Sifu! Great video! I love the way you explain the Art of Wing Chun in a logical and effective way.
Evan Tate thanks a lot. I’m so glad to be able to help the Wing Chun community.
This was great . Thank you.
Many Thanks

Olympia Sporting House 👍
That would be Great! Thanks again 😎👍🏼
Man you helped my wing chun so much thanks sifu
Johnny Turner wonderful news! Thanks for watching.
I miss the training Sifu, Keep the videos coming. Thank you Sifu
Tee Horton thanks...and will do.
This is great stuff, very informative, easy to understand and this greatly added valuable knowledge in my study of Wing Chun... Now I think I know why JKD and WC trapping techniques are focused on the side or slightly in it... Thanks for the lesson!
Excellent! I've been practicing SLT but never knew the deeper applications. Thank you Sifu!
Leam Hall my pleasure. So glad you liked it.
Great presentation and explanation, thank you. Just started training and you answer many questions.
Guillermo Quinones glad to help and good luck with your training.
If you just started training might as well throw some Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in there so that you're good on the floor as well
Thank you soo much. Your an excellent teacher!!!!
Beautiful explanation
Jose Lino Pinto thanks. Glad to help. 🙏
Master, where can I buy the hoodie you have on?
Robert Moreno sorry, but right now we’re sold out of the hoodies. I’ll check with our staff and see about getting it up on the store. Thanks.
Thank you shifu.
No hoodies Master?
Thank you for these video series. Keep it up!
Your a good teacher. Thank you
Very informative, thank you.
A detailed explanation of SIU lim tau
Great video!
Sir, You explained it in deep deep details. I saw this for 1sr time and I understood the basic of wing chun
Thank you sifu!
23mins of Learning thanks for this
What huen sao & wu sao purpose in that first section?
In the 1st 10 mins he just destroys every single wing chun uploader on youtube
Cofi Annon 😎. Thanks for watching.
I agree. But when you can speak, express and teach using the English language so good as sifu Jason does its very clear very understandable. But don't put these other guys in a different category. they are very knowledgeable. They great martial artist but not good teachers because they do not have the experience or they have the desire but cant connect with the students. Where is Greenville Academy?
Cori Eleven ; not true, just uploaders yu kno.
Fascinating; those theories actually make a lot of sense.
Jason, Great great video on Sil Lim Tao thanks.
However, there is a problem. I liked the video, purchased the wooden Dummy book and then my Ninja Blender broke down.
What do I do?
🤣. Sorry about that. The curse is real!!! Lol
Really appreciated. Thank you for sharing. Best regards Éric
Eric Claude 👍
thank you so much, it really very helpfull
Our pleasure. Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching.
Nice good explanations
Nice and informative. Thank you Sifu
Excellent
I found another way of punching ( that is to say proper fist formation) in western boxing posture. I don't believe anyone has thought of it yet. I would like to meet you in person one day and demonstrate it to you.
Extremely Practical. Thank you
So Good!
Très pédagogique, merci pour cette séance.Je retiens et je m'abonne

Excellent excellent teaching. Salute from Adie Gray Ip Ching Wing Chung and Dawadah JKD.

Fantastic vid great explanation.
Many thanks.
great master
Thank you. Great insight. No mention however of the pak sao to shoulder line (rather than 45degrees) and centre vertical palm. Would like to hear interpretation for these.
Excellent! Many thanks :)
I would love to learn Wing Chun, I think about it daily. It's hard to find a school where I'm located in Ohio. Though I'm looking. Finding your video, I definitely am willing to drive a little more than an hour a couple times a week. Thank you Sifu.
Shane Rice glad to help and good luck.
@@JKDandWingChun Thank you much.
If you still can't find a school but you want to train make yourself a poor man's wood dummy... I made one out of stuff from the 99 cent store... and Amazon has good grappling dummies to practice ground game like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.... if you can't make it to his school there's always other ways to practice
Its Really Great.....My Doubts Clear
I CATCH MEDIA BANGALORE glad to help!
Greenville Academy of Martial Arts South Carolina? I seriously need to move there. This. Is. Amazing. Salute!
Loved your video, it was very informative. I liked and subscribed because I need my washing machine.
Thanks a Ton, from India
Asim thanks for this important lesson it really helps a lot with understanding Wing Chun 👍🏼
Hello Sifo. Good time. Wing Chun is very complex. But Jeet Kune do is simple and practical. Do you think Jeet Kune do alone is enough ?
Thanks sir, always great gouge!
