Hannes, Floor's husband is the blond haired soldier who Is blown up by the granade and the first to leave his trench. The video quality is first class which is not surprising as this was filmed during covid lockdown when virtually all film crew were out of work. Sabaton took advantage of this and employednthese excellent technicians who had been out of work for months. You should be aware that the band have an entirely separate site "Sabaton History" where a historian discusses the "real story" of the action.
@BemusingBill, I would like to see that as well, but I would prefer you react to Motorhead's original 1916 first; the two songs have a notably different energy.
In 2018, I was with my school class at the former front line, where today there is a monument to this Christmas truce. There we met with an English school class and spent a wonderful day together. I'm very glad you watched the video to the end, even if you didn't recognize the divine voice of Floor.
I remember a documentary about that event and the sign being there. No, at the end I was absorbed by the story that I didn't notice. On playback though, I thought that it sounded like her. Thank you!
Nightwish Army reporting from Spain. Many people in the Nightwish Army love Sabaton. We are allies. They are different but both bands put a lot of effort in emotions and great live shows. The Nightwish Army will be very pleased if you continue the Sabaton rabbit hole, for sure. Both bands did a tour together. In that tour, Hannes, the drummer and the blonde guy in the video, and Floor met for the first time. They are now a happy and the coolest couple in metal, with two kids. Floor sang the outro in this song and was featured and some other songs. The guitar player, Tommy, has collaborated with Floor in some of her covers in RUclips. Great reaction! 🤟🏻
Thank you my brother from Spain! I didn't realize that was Floor because I was so captivated by the song and was thinking of that moment in history. I will definitely being doing much more Sabaton!🤘🤘
Yeah, some jealous dude threw a grenade at him as if that would be enough! I found out that was Floor afterward. The moment had me and I was in retrospect at the end. Love Sabaton though, so there will be more!
The look on Pär's face at 6:16 always hits me so hard. The combination of terror, helplessness, denial and sadness in his eyes is just so perfect for the situation.
Welcome to Sabaton. Formed in 1999, most of their songs are about Military History. A sabaton is the foot piece in a medieval suit of armor. Lead singer Joakim Broden and bassist Par Sundstrom are the primary songwriters, and are the only original members left. Guitarist Chris Rorland (joined 2012). drummer Hannes van Dahl(j. 2014), and guitarist Tommy Johansson(j. 2016) are the current members seen here. Par is at the cross at the end, Hannes (Floor's hubby) is the 1st soldier out of the trenches, Chris is 1st out on the other side, and Tommy had the battlefield guitar solo. YES, it is movie quality, this video was made by people that usually make movies, but they had time for this when the world shut down and moviemaking also stopped. Joakim has said this song is actually a waltz. The opening piano melody is a variation of Carol of the Bells. For more info on the story behind the music, the band has it's own history channel, an episode for every song, most episodes are co-hosted by Indy Neidell and either Joakim or Par. For more from them, please try the music video for Bismarck, or any of the animated story videos: Night Witches, No Bullets Fly, Lady of the Dark, The Red Baron, or The First Soldier.
MN. Blond guy hit by grenade is Floor's husband. Hannes Van Dahl. Floor sings the outro vocal. If you love war stories, you will love Sabaton. You should also check out some of Tommy Johansson's solo stuff for some amazing singing and guitar soloing content. he was the French soldier who played the guitar solo.
a great video for a great song. I love Joakims voice. very good composition. And a lot of effort for the video. and what can i say: Ending/outro with Floor...good to get it played.... the whole video. But you did not recognize Floor? we undersand, just not awaited..
I was seriously lost in the moment of the story and the thoughts of all those the perished. It was very emotional for me so I was not realizing that The Goddess was present.❤️

Another fantastic reaction. I was watching this the day before yesterday. It hits me just as hard every time. My dad used to tell of this story. He wasn't in WW1, but he WAS in WW2, and he had relatives lost in WW1. So did my mom. My dad's stories from WW2 were just as hard, and he carried a lot of mental scars from that time. He was in the mechanized/medical unit that followed General Patton everywhere. Then, after Patton had problems with the people in charge who had never been IN the war (sigh), Daddy was in the troops who were left behind to help out in Italy, during the "occupation." When I think of all of that, and watch this video, I have to also think of the three Sabaton covers in Dan Vasc's catalog. They are also quite powerful. In the "Smoking Snakes" video, Dan shares about the Brazilian soldiers who were involved in WW1, at long last. In another video, I heard him talk about how his own uncle was involved with those troops. I compared the years that were involved in the "Smoking Snakes" timing, and sure enough, my dad would have been in Italy, when Dan's uncle went with the Brazilian troops that had not been ALLOWED to go earlier in the war. Dan's channel has these three Sabaton covers (all terrific): 1) "Coat of Arms" (2012) --- ruclips.net/video/5P3ZumdcVcs/видео.htmlsi=CthKBI1V2U8zIa51 2) "Smoking Snakes" (2017) --- ruclips.net/video/StBUp3IliPI/видео.htmlsi=uDde4fbquH1WC6Cn 3) "The Last Stand" (2020) --- ruclips.net/video/7xSIB65A2h4/видео.htmlsi=I42v6TuCg3s1N1EK
Thank you so much! I love how Dan crosses over with other artists I follow like Nightwish and Sabaton. I love that! Both my grandfather and my wife's grandfather served in WWII. I never met my grandfather. He died when I was a baby. My wife's grandfather was buried under the bodies of his friends from what I understand was a couple of days before he was found. She has fond memories of him but he passed before I could meet him. I know my grandfather served in Italy, too. In fact, he fell in love and had a child with a woman there. His letters where found after his passing. A family in Italy I've never met! Thanks again!
This is such an emotional song. I have goosebumps every time I hear and see it. In 1999, south of the town of Ypres (Belgium), a wooden cross was placed in a farmer's field to commemorate the site of the Christmas Truce. The text on the cross reads: "1914 - The Khaki Chums Christmas Truce - 1999 - 85 years- Lest We Forget". As a parent/grandparent I hope that there will never be a war again but as long as there live persons with delusions of pride I'm afraid that will never happen. You said you wanted to know more about Sabaton. There is a 2.58 m hilarious video of Hannes van Dahl, Floor's husband, when he auditioned for drummer of Sabaton...."Sabaton Swedish Empire Tour 2013 #71 - drum tryout session Hannes van Dahl".... At first you might not recognize him... he had dyed his hair black😅. Greetings from The Netherlands!
Greetings and dank u! I must watch that audition! Yes, unfortunately there is no end to the madness and the world is worse now than ever. I live in Dutchess County in NY and we just had our Sinterklaas festival! I hope to visit your beautiful country someday! Much love to you❤️
Hi Bill, I'm sorry...a late reaction. How funny...you are the first person/reactor in the US that I met who celebrated Sinterklaas😅. There must be a lot of Dutch descendants in your county to have a festival like that. Do you have Dutch ancestors yourself? If so, it would be very nice to walk in the footsteps of them in my country. And if you like to know more about my country I recommend the YT channel of Highly Combustible. Through Nightwish he got very interested and reacted to a lot of videos about The Netherlands. A good suggestion to spend the Christmas Holidays watching them haha. I would like to make another suggestion to react to. It is "No bullets Fly, the ANIMATED video" by Sabaton. It is not a Christmas song but is has a Christmas link. It is a very empathetic and emotional song/story video with a lovely twist at the end. Have a good day!❤
It's been a long time since I read up on this, but I seem to remember that this was an unofficial truce and that those in command were very much against the idea because they were afraid that once the soldiers had socialized, they would be unwilling to fight against each other again. And, that is what actually happened. I believe that the various units had to be transferred to different areas, but I can't remember if anyone was actually charged and courtmartialed because they disobeyed orders or not.
I seem to remember that they went back to fighting each other the next day which I thought was so absurd. Makes much more sense the unwillingness to fight each other after that.
The song that made me a Sabaton fan! I would love you to react to the music videos for _1916_ and _Bismarck,_ and the animated story videos for _No_ _Bullets_ _Fly_ and _Night_ _Witches_ (for starters). Make sure it's the _story_ videos, though, because they add great detail - always watch to the end, too. Some songs also have animated music videos but if you watch those you'll be missing out!
For the quality, you'll enjoy "1916" motorhead tribute/cover. Bismark, 7 pillars of wisdom, etc...all historically accurate . They also have there oŵn Sabaton history channel on YT. And yes, that's Floor siging the outro, married to the drummer Hannes of Sabaton. Merry Christmas, Nightwish Army North Florida Airborne Div reporting in.
There is a behind the scenes video from one of their tours, they are somewhere in the US, and they got a request to play Christmas truce, so far so good until they realize that they don’t have a piano with them, so all of them are out to shop for one… they found one, until they have the next problem: to get the piano on board on their tour bus 😂
Sabaton "The Lost Battalion" is the true story of the American 77th Division during the Meuse - Argone Offensive of 1918. Saved by a pigeon who was also wounded.
Tommy Johansson the guy who played the guitarsolo have done same amacing cowers of christmassongs He is an multiinstrumentalist and producer and have his own youtubechannel with cowers and some of is own songs As an guitarist you should check up his Gary Moore cowers
Good Morning from San Francisco Bay Area in California. Sabaton creates music and songs historical events especially about war and specific battles. Absolutely amazing about a true event. It didn’t happen everywhere along the line, so many soldiers on both side died. The Generals on both sides were not amused and made sure it never happened again. Yes this is a small film about a true event during World War 1 or the Great War. At the end the wife of Hannes the drummer of the band a singer who may know Floor Jansen.
Collin Raye, if you're one for Country Music, also did a song about this event. another German soldier attempted to wish merry Christmas to the Canadian side once, but sadly was immediately shot dead and so this never happened again. Canadians were absolutely ruthless and vicious back then. not the friendly and lovable people we're known as today.
Thank you! Not opposed to country at all. John Denver is my favorite singer of all time and I love a lot of the old timey stuff too. Thank you for the recommendation!
Sabaton has been around since 2005. I first found them on MySpace. Yeah...MySpace. On their page they had the little embedded music player showcasing a handful of their songs off of their debut album, "Primo Victoria." One being the title track which is about D-Day. And which has a little Easter egg in their video for "Bismark." But Sabaton's whole theme and M.O. is to do songs and entire albums about historical events and figures. Most notably about world conflicts focusing on the World Wars mostly, but other conflicts as well, but you get my point. What funny though is that former members of Sabaton got together with the singer of Astral Doors (who has a Ronnie James Dio sound to him) to form a new band called Civil War, and they did albums focusing on the American Civil War, ironically, right? Which on a side note is kinda what happened with the band Grave Digger. Grave Digger focused on Medieal themed songs mostly. But then some of their former members got together and formed a new band called Rebellion which focused on Norse Mythology and Vikings.
I love this song. Sabaton is wonderful, and their videos are always amazing. I hope you do some more. There is also a Sabaton history channel on youtube, with more in-depth discussion of the historical events that inspired their songs
I missed this somehow, glad you did this one. My husband and I are both Veterans and we both absolutely love Sabaton. I'm not only a Veteran but a History nut so Sabaton has a special place in my heart. Your right, none of knew what trench warfare is like. As bad as it gets now, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc were horrible. I remember my greatgrandfather telling about the horror stories, my gramdpa too. The bravery these men had were on another level too! These men who experienced the horrors in these wars, however, are the reason many soldiers have the things they do now so that they are better protected than they were back then. War is still horrible, it always will be and I wouldnt want anyone to have to experience it (though my boys have decided to join the military) but the sacrifices of those before us have given us soooooo mich. Btw, another great reaction, thank you @ @BemusingBill. ❤❤❤
Great reaction!🤘 This band has so many great songs so i'll just recommend some of my favorites to you. Screaming Eagles, Seven Pillars Of Wisdom, Panzer Elite,82nd All the Way,Devil Dogs and Stormtroopers.
If you enjoy guitars, I would suggest you listen to Tommy Johansson's cover of Thin Lizzy's Emerald. Tommy is the guitarist here, playing the solo. He's an amazing musician and guitarist extra-ordinaire!
Great reaction! Now, being a guitarist, you must, must, must go over to Tommy Johansson's (the guitarist) channel and check out some of his music! He is just so talented, a beautiful metal voice and plays all the instruments in his videos....for epic guitar, my favorite is "Over the Hills and Far Away" (Gary Moore cover)(he's Tommy's hero and just got one of Gary's guitars!) Since it's Christmas you should hear "O Helga Natt" Swedish version of "O Holy Night", he does both versions but check out the Swedish one, Tommy has Tommyized it and added a touch of metal to the end, it's amazing! Subbed for more! ❤
You should check out 1916 for Sabaton. That one will be hard not to be moved over. All their stuff is great! The animated "No Bullets Fly" is great. The Last Stand, Winged Hussars, Ghost Division, holy crap too many good songs to list.
Love Christmas? Check the lead guitarists (Tommy.. doing the soloing in this one) band out ( Tommy also have done music for Floors solo covers) .. power metal ( but ready to go in stage as the best musical play ever!) . They did a concept album about Scrooge .. the album is VERY good .. start with “ ghost of Marley “ team Tommy will take it from there. So Suggestion Majestica “ ghost of Marley” .. but really listening to the “ a Christmas story” album from start to finish “ off reaction” .. tip must be highlighted as a treat ☺️ .. also STELLAR guitar and bass work in ghost of Marley😇
If you love guitars you should check out some of Tommy Johanssons solo work. He has his own channel with amazing song covers (or upgrades). Please have a look at his cover of Emerald (Thin Lizzy) or some of his Gary Moore covers like Empty Rooms.
A nice touch i thought the acoustic instead of electric ,. All true and the cross is still in a field in Ypres France . Floor Jansen does the outro as she is married to the drummer of Sabaton , but prob know that already
Soldier of Heaven. To Hell and Back, with lyrics from Audie Murphy's poem in his book about WW2 To Hell and Back. Winged Hussars. The Price of a Mile. En Livsted I Krig: find the version "Live in Gothenberg." Too many great songs to mention more. Any song is incredible.
I’m really enjoying your videos- this is my 3rd tonight One thing, please watch the audio- you are much softer than the videos. You may already know this Great reactions, keep it up
the nightwish army is here too :) always at Floor, always by the valkyrie's side. special greetings to SABATON family. 9:18 if it says a...Metal Dude*Musician do you have to explain that??
Welcome friend! Yes, because if I don't, inevitably, someone will say, 'dude, that's an acoustic guitar' so I thought I would get ahead of that😉 Thanks! Much love to ya🤘🤘
❤ Great ❤ That you will do Sabaton. They are the best ones for true history lessons. So, do next: 1916 (a tribute to Motörhead) 🏆‼️ and: En Livstid I Krig (sung in Swedish! So, activate the captions/subtitles) - live from Gothenburg-> Mindblowing ‼️👍
new subscriber 👍 may i give a small advice....looking for a Sabaton Song, if there is an animated Story Video, choose this one! BTW The original Cross they portrayed is still standing on a Farmers Field in Flandres....
Thank you and thanks for the sub! I really appreciate that. I heard about the animated story, Bullets Fly I think it's called? Will definitely be doing a lot more Sabaton! 🤘🤘
Plenty of people having to cope with trench warfare at this very moment,Dude... think eastern Ukraine... BTW the cross is still standing, in the village of Ploegsteert in Wallonia, close to the French border.
I had no idea they were fighting in trenches there! I thought with modern weaponry that it was pretty much obsolete. I do know the cross is still there. I remember a documentary awhile back.
Nightwish Army, South Carolina, USA....Hannes Van Dahl, the blond guy who was flattened by the grenade, then the first out of the trench, is married to Floor Jansen
BTW, that was Floor singing the outro - she's married to Sabaton drummer Hannes Van Dahl 🤘
Hannes, Floor's husband is the blond haired soldier who Is blown up by the granade and the first to leave his trench. Please listen to Resist and bites live
Dude you know Sabaton have covered Motorheads 1916 - and done it incredibly well - would love to see you react to that 🤘
Really! Thank you, I will gladly add that to my list.🤘🤘
@@BemusingBill Be warned, that one hits the feels.... HARD.
Keep some Kleenex handy. You’re gonna need them.
@BemusingBill, I would like to see that as well, but I would prefer you react to Motorhead's original 1916 first; the two songs have a notably different energy.

Hola, Nightwish Army reporting from Spain ✌
I mean of couse since Hannes Van Dahl (the drummer) is her husband^^
It happened days before Christmas, The most fantastic story : Sabaton - No Bullets Fly (animated STORY version)
Thank you! can't wait to get to that one!
That was Floor singing at the end, and that was Hannes, Floor's husband the first man out of the trenches.

In The End..... The Goddess Floor Jansen

@@BemusingBillif ever there was a Valkyrie's aria, that would be it
Yes, and Chris as the Brit is really incredible, when he hears the cannons start firing again.
Everyone note the electric guitar sound from an acoustic guitar but few ask how any soldier managed to bring a piano to the battle :-)
On his back, obviously!😉❤️
I didn't question it too hard, because in almost every war movie there remains an intact piano for cultural nostalgia effect.

Can't wait to get to that one! Thank you!
The film crew is used to big Hollywood productions and it shows in the quality.
My favorite Christmas song :)
Love Sabaton!
Tommy Johansson the guy who played the guitarsolo have done same amacing cowers of christmassongs
He is an multiinstrumentalist and producer and have his own youtubechannel with cowers and some of is own songs
As an guitarist you should check up his Gary Moore cowers
Thank you! I will!
I love this one, so to this Christmas we are going to sing this in my choir
Good Morning from San Francisco Bay Area in California.
Sabaton creates music and songs historical events especially about war and specific battles. Absolutely amazing about a true event. It didn’t happen everywhere along the line, so many soldiers on both side died. The Generals on both sides were not amused and made sure it never happened again.
Yes this is a small film about a true event during World War 1 or the Great War. At the end the wife of Hannes the drummer of the band a singer who may know Floor Jansen.
Thank you! Yes, I'm sure the brass were a bit miffed. Screw 'em!
The cross is a nod towards one that is In Belgium where one of the informal truces happened on the Western Front
After a detonation ju just hear piiiip in you ears for a while. That´s my experience
Thx 😊
❤️
Sabaton has been around since 2005. I first found them on MySpace. Yeah...MySpace. On their page they had the little embedded music player showcasing a handful of their songs off of their debut album, "Primo Victoria." One being the title track which is about D-Day. And which has a little Easter egg in their video for "Bismark."
But Sabaton's whole theme and M.O. is to do songs and entire albums about historical events and figures.
Thank you! I love what they do. There will be much more Sabaton!🤘🤘
They have been around since 1999, but no quibble with your fine post.
I love this song. Sabaton is wonderful, and their videos are always amazing. I hope you do some more. There is also a Sabaton history channel on youtube, with more in-depth discussion of the historical events that inspired their songs
Oh yes! I'm hooked and being a history buff I'm totally HOOKED!! Expect more Sabaton! Next will be 1916.
Thank you, and thank you for your service as well has your husband and your boys!!❤️
Great reaction!🤘 This band has so many great songs so i'll just recommend some of my favorites to you. Screaming Eagles, Seven Pillars Of Wisdom, Panzer Elite,82nd All the Way,Devil Dogs and Stormtroopers.
Thank you so much! I plan on covering them all! Love Sabaton!
If you enjoy guitars, I would suggest you listen to Tommy Johansson's cover of Thin Lizzy's Emerald. Tommy is the guitarist here, playing the solo. He's an amazing musician and guitarist extra-ordinaire!
Cool, thank you!
Yes, I've heard so much about him I will definately check out his stuff, thank you! And thanks for the sub! Really appreciate it!🤘🤘
Love Sabaton! Thanks!
I'm a fan now, too! Thank you!
You should check out 1916 for Sabaton. That one will be hard not to be moved over. All their stuff is great! The animated "No Bullets Fly" is great. The Last Stand, Winged Hussars, Ghost Division, holy crap too many good songs to list.
1916 is next, my friend!
Love this video - thanks for reacting!
Thank you!
Greetings my Brother, AATW GOLDEN FALCON Here 4/325th CSC ABCT SETAF Vicenza Italy TOW GUNNER 82-84
Greetings my brother! Much blessings to you👏👏👏
@@BemusingBill Thank you and back at you.
If you love guitars you should check out some of Tommy Johanssons solo work. He has his own channel with amazing song covers (or upgrades). Please have a look at his cover of Emerald (Thin Lizzy) or some of his Gary Moore covers like Empty Rooms.
This story is so simultaneously uplifting and depressing
A nice touch i thought the acoustic instead of electric ,. All true and the cross is still in a field in Ypres France . Floor Jansen does the outro as she is married to the drummer of Sabaton , but prob know that already
Thank you!🤘🤘
Subscribing to watch your start of this amazing rabbit hole 😊
Thank you for that! I appreciate it! Yes, I want more Sabaton!
new sub Sabaton lady of the dark animated story video
Thank you for the sub! I've added it to my list, thank you!
I love Sabaton! Right up my alley with military history. I will be doing as many as humanly possible.❤️
I’m really enjoying your videos- this is my 3rd tonight
One thing, please watch the audio- you are much softer than the videos. You may already know this
Great reactions, keep it up
Thank you! And thanks for the feedback!🤘❤️🤘
the nightwish army is here too :) always at Floor, always by the valkyrie's side. special greetings to SABATON family. 9:18 if it says a...Metal Dude*Musician do you have to explain that??
Welcome friend! Yes, because if I don't, inevitably, someone will say, 'dude, that's an acoustic guitar' so I thought I would get ahead of that😉
Thanks!
Thank you! Yes, 1916 is next!!🤘🤘
new subscriber 👍 may i give a small advice....looking for a Sabaton Song, if there is an animated Story Video, choose this one! BTW The original Cross they portrayed is still standing on a Farmers Field in Flandres....
Thank you and thanks for the sub! I really appreciate that. I heard about the animated story, Bullets Fly I think it's called? Will definitely be doing a lot more Sabaton! 🤘🤘
@@BemusingBill You wont understand "No Bullets fly" without reading tons of books, or choose the animated story video ;) I´m not kidding, its true
Please react 1916 from Sabaton!!
Coming up next!!
Lest we forget? 100 + years & we clearly did, while the banksters didn't.
🐕
Nightwish Army, South Carolina, USA....Hannes Van Dahl, the blond guy who was flattened by the grenade, then the first out of the trench, is married to Floor Jansen
I wonder who threw the grenade then. Old boyfriend of hers😁
