Interesting tidbit: Joakim Broden, the lead vocalist, never intended to be a singer and has no formal voice training. When they formed Sabaton he was the keyboardist, and the only member of the band who had written some music. The band asked him to sing what he had written so they could get an idea of the melodies. They had no lead singer at that time and asked him to take on the task until they could find one. As Joakim says, "They never did. Lazy bastards."

There is no sarcasm in this song. This song is based on a true event that took place in Christmas time 1914 during World War 1.
There were a lack of ammunition on both sides and the Germans started to sing Christmas carols. The French and English soldiers answered with singing from their trenches.
They met up spontaneously in "no mans land" the area between the trenches. There they exchanged gifts, played football and they buried their fellow soldiers that been laying dead in no mans land. That day, they were friends.
The higher rank officers found out about this and forced them to go back in the trenches and continue to fight and kill each other.
The cross you see at the end with the inscription still stands at the location where the Christmas truce took place. The words "Lest We Forget" is a reminder that not forget this event where humanity ruled during war time.

Sabaton are from the city of Falun in Sweden.
Sabaton is a band who sings about historical events . Always events that has happened in reality.
In this case is about the famous "Christmas Truce" which happened in 1914 when soldiers started to shout "Merry Christmas!" in English ,German and French to each other...and they later agreed upon a Christmas Truce .
They to meet in "No Mans Land" to bury their dead friends, share drinks with each other. They even played football matches! .
This was not though poular at all among the Generals on both sides ....who ordered them to start up the fighting again.....
So this song IS A TRUE STORY from 1914. Yes ! This really happened.
Sabaton is a fantastic band and a hint is that you always should see their musicvideos to the very end. Because many times Sabaton is hiding something precious/important in the very end of the songs. - This time it was the end vocals by the Superstar singer Floor Jansen from Nightwish., who made a visit to the band where her husband plays with her incredible voice in the endvocals.

At the end of each sabaton music video is a link to the Sabaton history RUclips channel, which explains the particulars of each n piece of music, also Sabaton and their label Nuvlear Blast, do not generally copy right strike RUclips reactions as they learned a long time ago that it is a net positive to allow reaction videos to advertise for them, just be sure to send people to support the band in return. All Sabatons music deserves to be promoted listened to understood, they sing about things that should always to remembered. I suggest, their cover of and tribute to Motorhead, 1916, les we forget

Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music.
Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 100 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) .
Sabaton videos are often have dedictions and/or messages at the end, perhaps not always but... watching to the very end is frequently well worth it.
Animated STORY videos (short Animated history lessons with music videos in them)
No bullets fly, enemy showing mercy to injured aircrew in a nearly wrecked aircraft bare still flying, even escorting them to safety.
Night witches, Young (17-28) fenale bomber pilots in ww2 fighting the Nazi despite the discrimination theh faced and being given obsolete equipment, aircraft ...
Lady of the dark fenale fighting alongside nen during ww1 and being highly respected and even more decorated.
Red baronm the famous fighter pilot of ww1 l

    Epic ORIGINAL videos.

Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce in some parts of the western front during Christmas 1914
40:1, about polish soldiers, badly outnumbered (just under 750 in all) facing 42 000 germans, they where BADLY outgunned desperately defending against the German invasion 1939 (with odds actually close to 55:1 they held for 3 DAYS when ammunition and supplies ran out.
Uprising, the Warsaw Uprising against the nazi germans during 1944.
To hell and back, they tell the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face.
Fields of verdun, the 300+ day long battle fought there.
Price of a mile, about the battle of Passchendaele
Screaming Eagles, about the battle of the bulge
    Live performances
    40:1 from poland
    Uprising from poland
En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) , very heavy again, about thoughts of a young man going to war.
    Two covers that are good
    Defence of Moscow, self explained
1916 about the devastating battle of the somme in ww1, casualties topped 1 milion if you count both sides, all for 6 miles of ground,
these are just some, there are plenty more.

Historical fact. Outside Ypres Belgium. Many of those men were 16 year old boys. It's OK to cry.

Sabaton is amazing! You should check out Tom MacDonald. I would start with " The System" but just know, Tom is a deep rabbit hole of facts with a massive dedicated following.

Imagine the terrors of war, and the war stopped for one single day. What did the soldiers go through? It's surely was hell. I don't think they would trade this day away for all the money in the world.
