"Hi Susan!" Wow. That has to be THE Grail Pen. Sadly, all I can afford right now is the Discounti Neanderthal with the flint nib. Gotta start saving up.
Which nib size would you choose for your „Discounti Neanderthal flint nib“? Too funny! :D The „Neandertal“ in Germany is actually not that bad of place to go for a walk.
Brilliant fast, polished and idiosyncratic delivery - one of the best reviews I have seen of a pen for ages. Have previous interation of the same pen and this tempts me to save the pennies. Thanks PBR and good luck with live, pens and other things. :-)
I'm not compelled to get one because they're so expensive, but maybe one day when I'm "money rich." right now I'm just "feelings rich,"and that's okay with me ❤️
Great video as I was totally thrown out by the 18Kt Gold nib when I was expecting to see the 23Kt Palladium nibs. I had no idea there were so many issues with the previous version. So it looks like the change to the 18Kt Gold nib is a good change. 👍🏻😀 (You just got a new subscriber. Your video style and the way you come across is just what I like in a review)
Not having ink window would be the ugly. They should have the acrylic band of the skylight on there. I thought Skylight was the answer but reviews says there is a gap in window where dust can get it and has squeaks there.
Roy, great review and some really good lines/words in the review "Toddler coloring in and outside of the lines. Two Brass rings, no reason it just looks cool." Not only do we learn, but we get to have some laughs by watching your reviews. I've got to agree whole heartily with you about the lining up of the Nib and the name Homo Sapiens. At that price the center of the Nib should line up with the center of the name. One day hopefully, I'll have one. To me it just seems so cool to have a pen made out of lava rock. Rock on Roy!
There are a lot of reviews they take themselves so seriously in the pen world. I just discovered you and this was hilarious . I’m really interested in the Pen you reviewed of course but and I do have the pen virus that you described. But this was so entertaining thanks for the video and I have also found your podcast keep doing what you’re doing it was great! from Australia
10th Feb 2021 - I’ve got one coming finally. It’s on the way but stuck in bad weather 😑 Can’t wait to try it as the nib has been tuned and written with so I’m expecting a lot and I hope I don’t get let down. I went for a fine nib as that is my style. Brilliant 👍🏻🙂
the 18k Visconti "Fine-Nib" is comparable to what other nib? a Lamy 2000 fine? the line width is comparable to what pen ? looking to get this pen but not sure whether to get a Fine or Medium size...help me!!!!
I understand your frustration regarding the misalignment of the nib and center band. Therefore I am willing to accept this pen as a gift from you (free of charge) to relieve this frustration. It didn't work??? DANG!!! : ) Worth a try!
Hello Mr. Roy I want to buy a Parker Duofold broad 18 k nib tomorrow. It really needs to be broad , thick full lines (for journaling) Do you have an alternative I must look at before buying? or you have a vid. All best and health to you . Thanks for the vid.
You said this is a Bock nib but I thought Visconti started producing their nibs in-house when they dropped palladium. Was this a transitional piece after they dropped palladium but before they started making their own nibs?
I just purchased a 18 k gold nib sapiens today in a M nib thanks to your educational and entertaining video so thank you Roy! The only thing is that I realized that the polishing cloth was missing when I got home. Rookie mistake, should have checked!
Great review, Roy! Now my OCD 🦎 brain is thinking "maybe you should switch my Grail pen from the Conid king-sized bulkfiller to the Visconti lava pen you just spoke about." I'll let you know.😁
The clip refers to the "old bridge" bridge? I wouldn't buy this I am too ham-handed to trust myself with it spare parts are not available. Plus any minor deffect or inconvenience would be extremely frustrating at that price point.
M800 is a fantastic pen: larger ink capacity and visible to check your ink level, soft, wet nib... I dont know what the Germans do, but the pen's length, girth and weight are perfectly balanced... perfect. I am not sure if I would pay so much for a Visconti though it is pretty, but compared apple to apple the m800 has better value: a timeless classic for sure.
Endgame 3 years old? Wow, time flies! Just seen one of these for a good price (compaired to normal price) and might have to go for it, will also be waiting for the amethyst MPS to come back in stock to get one for it too.
For the ugly, if you like to know how much ink is left, you're going to go crazy. I love mine, and in all honesty would hate to mar it with an ink window, but I really (REALLY) want to know how much ink is in there.
I have both the Bronze Age and the Medici, so I have the palladium nibs. I found that I don't like palladium. If Aurora sells the gold nibs separately I will eventually replace the palladiums ...
I like that it lines up to the H because that's where I line the clip up and for me with my body mechanics that results in uncapping nib in writing position every time. But I can understand, sad they can't make all of us crazys happy at the same time thanks Roy the FP playboy!
Well, I have this pen based on the rave reviews. And I regret buying it. No idea when ink runs out, it drives me mad. Have a London Fog and Chiantishire, what a difference.
It's Homo SAPIENS not SAPIEN. It's even on the band you took a photo of! Am I the only one who cringed every time you said that??? I mean really Roy it's all over their branding and their website (and "sapien" is NOT the singular of "sapiens" which is NOT a plural term).
I loved mine while I still had it until my wife...ahem...until it decided to fly out of my hands and land on the floor of its own volition. You are making me long for another one now.
Visconti to me is like buying a moto guzzi motorcycle or a Alfa romeo car. I wouldn't dare especially at their prices. I will stick with my Ford car and my Pilot Custom heritage 912 with the gold nib. I am just a poor coward I quess.

@@herrkeks8509 The M size nib, of course. Produces a good line on mastadon hide.
Dave H I‘m sorry, but I don’t get what you mean with the last two words. I also can’t find an explanation online. :)
@@herrkeks8509 I was referring to writing on something like Mammoth skins. www.livescience.com/34446-mammoth-or-mastodon.html
Dave H Okay :D Got it :) My dictionary sadly had no translation.
Also RUclips didn’t provide me with any notification of your answer :)

I totally agree that this is a grail pen and love mine. Great reveals usual,
Thanks Roy, I almost bought one awhile ago, but then I learned 18k nibs were coming, so I decided to wait and see. I'll get one someday for sure!
make it so! Do what it takes!
This has been in my Goulet cart for two days. You just convinced me to hit the order button. Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it!

Hi Susan 😄I love my homo sapiens bronze age with the palladium nib.
It looks like the clips have improved from previous, when the logo was painted on. For this cap, are the letters for VISCONTI painted on?
Very few pen reviewers have good handwriting. You are one of them. Good to know the gold nib works for you.

Standard #6 nib!!!! Sweet, I can swap it out with a Goulet #6 or take one out of my JinHao x450!!!!!
Great review! Informed, informative and fun. Even if the pen was in my budget I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a pen.
My saint grail, I don´t know when but I´ll get it
you will. one day. you will
I pulled the trigger on the stealthy Homo Sapiens Dark Ages and although my wallet took a hit I have no regrets.
That was fun! I come away from your videos knowing just a bit more about the world of FPs.

Excellent Tony Stark observation Roy!

Email coles of London. Get that cloth!!!
Thanks for the tip, I’ll try that :) it really is a sweet pen, it’s already inked up and ready to go. I’ll also check out The Boys on Amazon prime

Excellent review with great one liners, as always. I think you’re on to something with the Iron Man theory.
I’ve been eyeing getting this pen. But its close competitor right now is a Pelikan m800. I am debating which one to buy first. Any advice?
M800 is a fantastic pen: larger ink capacity and visible to check your ink level, soft, wet nib... I dont know what the Germans do, but the pen's length, girth and weight are perfectly balanced... perfect. Thank you was looking for a review that explain about the QC issue as that was holding me back just waiting for my B&M store to restock

Great review but I don't think I could bring myself to put anything monteverde in a pen at this price
Will you be reviewing any Krone pens in the future. They do a nice Beethoven pen.
How heavy is the pen? I know that pumice (a volcanic rock) is feather light, but is basaltic lava heavier?
Aeon Invictus thank you!
Well, I have this pen based on the rave reviews. And I regret buying it. No idea when ink runs out, it drives me mad. Have a London Fog and Chiantishire, what a difference.
Did they translate the Italian using Google translate ?
The groves for the cap dont bother you ever?! This is my only issue with the pen. :( It looks like my thumb would be resting on them at least.
The ugly... now that you mention it. I can no longer unsee it.
Excellent video and presentation. I enjoyed it.
Wish I could have owned one before my passing in 23 December 1939, it would have been a great experience for my superego plus the affections of my id!
I’m surprised. The price you mentioned is basically the same as the same pen, with a Palladium nib.
Great reviews that are informative and entertaining.
“Infected with the fountain pen virus...” Well then, I’m a hopeless case! 😂
I bought the lava, but now many colors.
The ads before this video are so long...but it was worth it.
The long ads are after the video also...and I watched them while I typed this comment. I kind of want a Visconti Homo Sapiens but they look too manly.
Thanks for another great review.
I bought one last week. I'm going to be in a more or less constant state of panic until it arrives safely....
How’s that working out for you? Did you get it yet?
@@PenBoyRoy It. Came. Yesterday....I'm still holding it....
Nice review! Keep it up!
Loving all the grunt style shirts 👍
Another great review.
This man is posting this already enourmous pen while writing lol!!
It's Homo SAPIENS not SAPIEN. It's even on the band you took a photo of! Am I the only one who cringed every time you said that??? I mean really Roy it's all over their branding and their website (and "sapien" is NOT the singular of "sapiens" which is NOT a plural term).
I dont know much about this pen...but it's just something I want lol.
PS: you have a very nice hand, as in writing and will check out The Boys. TT4N
I loved mine while I still had it until my wife...ahem...until it decided to fly out of my hands and land on the floor of its own volition. You are making me long for another one now.
Thanks Roy, love the video, love the pen. Now I need to go sell something to save up to buy one, like one of my kids, or an organ,...
Just kidding, I wouldn't sell an organ.
Just kidding, I wouldn't sell an organ.
Hi Susan
Ironman? lol!!! The decision was a business decision, as all decisions of every company. Palladium became much more expensive than gold. That's all...
Visconti to me is like buying a moto guzzi motorcycle or a Alfa romeo car. I wouldn't dare especially at their prices.
I will stick with my Ford car and my Pilot Custom heritage 912 with the gold nib.
I am just a poor coward I quess.
Oh Hi Susan the nice lady
that is a whole lot of pen for an uncultured swine like me!!
Hi Susan
