There is no wrong version. The one with Tarja (the first singer) is the original, that is how it was originally meant to sound like, amazing.
This one with Floor is what it evolved throughout the years, amazing too.
Those two singers are so different that I feel like you can't compare them but you are obviously entitled and encouraged to say your opinion 😊

Jansen can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (C3 to F6)
Jansen started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. When After Forever split up, she started teaching performing in her own course called Wanna be a Star?
She used to play the guitar, piano and flute, and has completed several years of music studies

Classmates at the Dutch Rock Academy were Danny Vera (great hit with Rollercoaster) and Jacqueline Govaerts (the band Krezip, first big hit I Would Stay, their present drummer is at the moment in the USA stepping in for the drummer of U2 who had health issues)

    Hi Ashlena,
Thanks reacting to this version of GLS, I'm glad you like this version. ❤
As a Dutch person, I am of course very proud of Floor, although I came a little late to the party 🤫)
Floor can switch between operatic singing and growling in an instant, although she rarely or almost never does this with Nightwish.
I don't mind, because just like with Jinjer, I find it very impressive but it doesn't really work for me.
I often listen to the live recording of this entire concert while running.
This works really well for me..🏃‍♂🤣
Just like The Warning, Nightwish is a real live band and most prefer live performances over music videos.
From the Wacken concert I can recommend Romanticide and Song of Myself, both are a bit heavier than GLS.
From other concerts (after 2013) I really like Dead Boy's Poem and 7 Days to the Wolves.
    Greetings from the Netherlands

Thank you for deciding to continue exploring the ocean of music, composed and performed by Nightwish for more than a quarter of a century. Of course, you have a new subscriber here.
Want a "regular" Nightwish song? :) I'm tempted to answer that "there is no such thing", since each of their songs is unique. Try "Ever Dream" from the same Wacken 2013 concert, a song dedicated to a state of ideal love.
    All the best, from Romania!

Hello Ashlena. I'm glad you decided to react to this version of Ghost Love Score. Floor Jansen (Yan-sen), Nightwish's 3rd and current female lead vocalist took this and made it her own, as she does with everything she sings. Carol, my lovely wife of 42 years, and I had the wonderful opportunity to see them live last year at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. The entire show was incredible. Nightwish is the rare band whose live performances are even better than their studio productions. Thank you and I hope to see more of your reactions to Nightwish live with Floor in the near future.

I've known Nightwish since their inception, but I could never stand to listen to Tarja for more than half a minute. I recognized that musically the band was beyond reproach, but man, Tarja's voice was like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. So you can imagine how happy I was when they got Anette (2007 if memory serves), the second singer - not a great one by any means (and it's quite surprising Tuomas chose her), but she made all the songs... listenable, and I could finally enjoy them. And then came Floor, one of the very few singers who can make me tear up by just singing la-la-la. What's more, she *can* sing operatic, but rarely really does - she treads this fine line between "just operatic enough" and "pure opera, don't like it", so she makes the operatic parts of the vocals work for people who hate opera.
So yeah, I totally get why Tarja didn't work for you. ^^
If you ever feel like giving Nightwish another chance, try *Storytime*, a much more straightforward banger. Gabriel should show up any minute, he'll give you a whole laundry list of song recommendations. 😁
And no, Floor sounds nothing like Amy Lee. Thank god. 😛

Hi Sunshine, and thanks for giving my "other" favorite band another listen. Most of their songs are 4+ minutes long. A few are 15+min. long, but they tell amazing stories. Fun Fact: During Covid lockdown, Floor started doing covers on her YT channel to keep in touch with the fans. Her daughter Freja, was "INTO" Frozen and sang 'Let It Go' constantly, so she did a more metal cover of it for her. You should introduce your daughter to Floor via that video. Ever Dream, Storytime, Romantacide...all from Wacken 2013 are great songs to get to know the band. See you on your channel in a bit!!!

Hi 👋. This is their most reacted to song & it is a good example of their preferred style. The music style is called symphonic metal. My personal favorite of their songs is called "Shudder Before The Beautiful." If you want a simpler song, I recommend the live acoustic version of "How's The Heart" with Floor & Troy. Which version of Phantom Of The Opera did you listen to? Nightwish has 2 versions. The first was with Tarja & Marko, both of them have gone on to have solo careers. The newest version has Floor & Henk Poort, & is more traditional. Henk actually played the Phantom for the Dutch version of the stage show.

Hi Ashlena, subscriber from England here. I have been following your 'The Warning' journey, so I was thrilled to see you react to this! To be honest with you, I only discovered Nightwish in 2015 when the band began releasing new material with Floor Jansen on lead vocals. I did a retrospective on the two previous singers and the respective material, and I would not have been a fan had the original singer still been with them. I find her operatic voice grates on my ears, and i simply do not like her voice. I did enjoy the two albums with the second singer, but Floor has taken this band to a whole new level. I believe all of the various videos on YT are dated, so (as a rule of thumb) anything dated 2013 onwards will have Floor on lead vocals. Two other members of the band sing lead vocals too, but any female vocal after that date will be Ms Jansen. I am pleased to hear that you will continue reacting to them, and who knows, you may even get to like them! Take care, Kevin

Hello dear reactor, Nightwish is been my favorite symphonic metal band for years. I've seen all those great singers, first Tarja, then Anette and now Floor. I am so happy to have all of their studio albums since 1996 including the rare 1996 collector's edition album. I was at their last concert this year 16th June, and I tell you if you ever have a chance seeing them live go! When I drove back from Vaasa city (Finland) to my home (Oulu city) about 400 kilometers...I just was...what did I saw and listened. My cousin told me years ago that Floor is God's gift Nightwish (I don't believe in God) and I said Nightwish is God's gift to metal music. The people in that crowd I was, they were such nice and polite, we were all friends and polite people. Nightwish will publish their new album 2024 and after that they propably start touring again. I will be the first in line seeing them again. Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) is our metal Mozart who writes and composes these beautiful music. And I have one question to ask him, but I don't say it in RUclips before I see them live. Have a beautiful journey with Nightwish dear reactor 🤘

that's a sensible reaction. ;-) And it is the same for me, Floors voice is somewhat more charismatic and balanced compared to tarja, who is a great artist and (opera-)singer no doubt. In terms of a simple, "regular" song: this metal genre has a lot of those complex epic songs, so there might not be a perfect answer. Compared to G.L.S. most of nightwish's songs are shorter though. I'd say "Storytime" comes the closest to regular pop/rock, my personal faves would be "Everdream" and "Song of Myself". I'd recommend sticking with Floor's versions and live performances, since you seem to prefer that too.

Hi! For "wrong" versions, the only controversy I was ever aware of for "Ghost Love Score" is that some people recommend the live version from South America, while most fans prefer the Wacken version from Germany, and I certainly agree with that. If you meant Tarja's version of GLS as "wrong", it is less popular, but most Nightwish Army GI's usually want the listener to hear SOME of Tarja's work as well (e.g. "Sleeping Sun" with her), especially before listening to the famous song "The Poet and the Pendulum" with Floor at Wembley. So its really just a question of order.

Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! 6'1'' Dutch Valkyrie Goddess spotted !
This is called Symphonic Metal !!!
Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
And the master of this magic is:
Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.
We hope, that there is more coming.
    NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.
A breathtaking masterpiece sung by a Valkyrie Goddess… or what Nightwish thinks of as just another day.

Glad you decided to react to this band again,They’re definitely a band that are better live, their studio stuff is good but it’s their live performances where they shine…they go from operatic though to rock, folk,Celtic and on to thrash and everything in between, hope you decide to dip your toe into some more..if you do then definitely use Gabriel’s list as it has the best quality videos performance and audio wise.👍

It's nice that YT has now suggested you to me. Late but not too late.
Even though this is the first video I've seen of you, I bet you reacted to Tarja's version of the Phantom.
Maybe you have a look at the live version with Floor from last year. This version is classic and here Floor sings with an original Phantom (Henk Poort), who was one of A.L.Webber's favorite phantoms.
I guarantee you an absolute musical highlight that has been crowned with an F6 Highnote for 12 seconds.
I like your honest way of expressing your opinion and I also liked this reaction - that's why you get the deserved subscription and a like. Greetings; Kelsea Nightwish Army Germany

It isn't just the singer who left the stage. This song is the third from the last in the set of 15 songs. There were 82000+ people at this concert - who all expected to see a different singer when they bought their tickets. This concert sold out a year prior. During the year leading up to this part of the tour, the middle singer was fired (various reasons right/wrong). Floor Jansen was asked to finish the tour. Once the fan reacts were so positive, she was asked to join the band (along with the pipes player, not seen here). Most people miss the "canticle" (not the right term - she sings, we answer, repeat), the audience (including me) typically sing it during the end of the song. While the concert at the Wacken festival was 82,000+ people, other bands would play at Wacken Open Air. This is significant because Wacken (city in Germany) has a population of 9,000 - you read that right. As a result, every citizen of Wacken gets free tickets. During some videos of the concert at Wacken, you may see what appears to be a very uninterested person dressed oddly in the audience. He is one of several health/safety people sprinkled throughout the crowd. WOA had to be all but cancelled this year due to the weather.

Hi Ashlena, very nice reaction. Be sure, Floor Jansen (the female Singer) can do much more with her voice. She can also do some pretty nice deep low growls, like Tatiana from Jinjer, but she didnt do it with Nightwish, only at a few Songs like Your's is an empty Hope, best to hear it is at the Live at Wembley Version. With her former own Band ReVamp she did it very often. Greetings from Germany. 🙂

One semi-personal comment on relating yourself to Floor: Floor did a home "walk around" TV interview a few years ago in Sweden. In the center of her living room, above the main mantle piece, is a painting that very much reminds me of the one you have directly behind you (female looking down with flaming hair). Here is the story: when Floor was young she was struggling a lot and not having very much success. She was working in Netherlands and at the location where she would walk to work every day there was a art store, and it had a painting in the window that Floor would pass every day on this way to work. Floor came to really identify with the female in the painting, and dreamed that one day she could afford to buy it. Then one day she was walking by and it was gone, and Floor was heartbroken. Years later, after Floor became famous, and had more money, she determined to go back to the store and try and find out who had bought it, and she would offer to buy it from them at any price. But surprise surprise, the shop owner said that he had merely put the painting away in the back storage room, because it wasn't selling, and she could buy it right away if she wanted. So Floor bought it, and to this day it is prominently displayed in the middle of Floor's living room, as a reminder of the path she went through on the way to eventual success.
For RUclips bocking reasons, I will put the link in a "reply" to this comment. The part where she shows the painting and tells the story, is at 8 min 10 seconds ff. Enjoy!

Not the exact reason why Floor leaves the stage but notice her checking under her right arm as she leaves. Earlier in the concert, she did a costume change during an instrumental, Last of the Wilds, and she comes back after what seemed like an overly long intro to Bless the Child, running onto stage. On a few angles, you can see there is a zipper that is not fully done up, other her right side - that is what she is checking when leaving at the interlude. It is all fixed when she comes back out!

I personally don't think Tarja, the original singer, has an actually harsh voice, but I think I understand where you're coming from. The difference, to me, is that Floor does a much better job at blending in with the rest of the band, while Tarja was more about singing the style she liked, which worked beautifully for some songs, and not for others. (obviously these are opinions, not facts)
For some simpler (or at least shorter) Nightwish songs (and always go with the live version, and post-2013 if you want the current singer):
Ever Dream, Storytime or Nemo, all pretty radio-friendly songs, to use an outdated term.
Romanticide or Ghost River, when you're up for the heavier side of Nightwish.
Weak Fantasy or Last Ride of the Day, for some uptempo awesomeness.
I Want My Tears Back or My Walden, when you want some bag pipes

      @Mystress1980 11 месяцев назад

I think maybe she's meaning one of the reasons I'm not the hugest Tarja fan. That being, she sounds....uncomfortable. The singing doesn't just flow out of her, and in turn, makes me, the listener, uncomfortable. I actually don't mind opera, so it's not the style of vocal that's off-putting. She doesn't sound relaxed or like she's enjoying herself. Basically, she sings like she's either wrestling with each note, or like she's trying not to wake up someone sleeping in the next room. There's no middle ground. Near whisper or strangling the sound itself is a hell of a swing.

Yes for all but early Nightwish fans this singer, Floor Jansen, takes all of their songs to another level as she has so much versatility, expression and vocal control. This is song 13 of 15 and every one was written for one of the two previous singers, Tarja Turunen (operatic) and Anette Olzon (poppy). There is in fact a recent version of The Phantom of the Opera featuring Floor with 67 year old Henk Poort who was The Phantom in the origina Dutch shows and considered by Lloyd Webber to be one of the best.

The singer walks off stage not only because they have been on stage for a long time (this is song #13/15), but also because the story calls for it. After all, this is the phase in which the main character is lured underwater by the Siren and allows himself to be led away. At that stage it is figuratively drowning in the ocean. She then surfaces in an unknown new world/environment, guided by the Ghost.

Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Arya and Opera. She even sang rap. THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

It is normal with Nightwish songs that members of the band go to the back of the stage or even leave it when they are not needed. And to give other members the opportunity to shine as you can see when Floor leaves her front position on stage when Emppu starts his guitar solo. They all just do what the songs need instead of showing off - no egos on stage. And you can see that they love what they are doing - and each other.

There is no such things as "the wrong video" Only different video. Most of the times people say that is because they are die hard Floor fans. The Tarja versions is also amazing. Now I prefer Floor on this song but I would never say wrong version since I love all three singers just as much.

Originally written with Tarja's (1st singer) talents in mind (and some people do like that version better), Having seen that video you can see where Floor and Tuomas adapted it to be more her style - taking some of the lyrics that are in the backing track, changing a few notes, getting a growl* in her voice and adding the belt at the end. Floor came in as an emergency replacement after the 2nd singer (Anette) left the band in the middle of the American tour - had to learn the song set in 48 hours (there's a video). The Wacken 2013 concert is not even a year beyond that initial performance - Floor is not even an official member of the band at this time. The energy loop between the band an the audience is real. This concert is magical - pick any song out of it - it's a winner.

Greetings, and thank you for asking questions.
Not every song will be for everyone. On that note, neither will this kind of genre.
This performance is more of an introduction to Floor Jansen and her versatility as a vocalist.
The original singer was Tarja Turunen and her style was strictly operatic. She was dismissed in 2005 and replace by Anette Olzon in 2007 (pop vocals). Anette was fired in Sep. 2012 and replaced by Floor.
Great opportunity to get to know the band, yes, but every song is like a new and different story, it takes you on a different ride every time.
So do expect the experience to get better if you like symphonic metal.
Gabriel will be here so do follow his blueprint for a more detailed experience. Most of the songs are average length, some up to 6 or 7 minutes and 2 songs over 10 minutes not counting this one, but those will come later.
On the break in the middle of the song, they all leave the stage to just let the fans focus on the orchestral bliss and for what came next.
The orchestral tracks are brought to you by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
The choirs are also prerecorded by London's The Metro Voices and Young Musicians Children's Choir.
These very talented organizations have been working with Nightwish since 1998.
To be honest, Phantom of the Opera is a great song but I agree in that the specific version they did in 2005 is not my cup of tea.
If you wish to redeem yourself on that song, Floor does a version of her own with and without Nightwish.
The version with Nightwish is the same musically but has Henk Poort singing the male part as Marko is no longer with the band.
    Why Henk Poort?
Well, Henk played the Phantom in the Dutch adaptation of the musical from 1993 to 1996 and was Floor's operatic role model for many years.
In 2019 they finally met in a Dutch reality TV show called "Beste Zangers" and in the season finale, performed that iconic song together.
That performance turned many heads, but more importantly for Floor, got the attention of her home country of Netherlands.
That performance blew up so big that it was inevitable that Nightwish should perform it sooner or later, and they did, in 2023.
I will invite you to react to Floor's version in Beste Zangers so you can feast your ears in the version that in my opinion, is how the original should've been.
    ruclips.net/video/plCScjvDOJM/видео.htmlsi=pC7zFkuu_ZoIphRy
    Heads up.....
You're going to get some heat for the Amy Lee comment but please take that with a grain of salt.
These ride or die fans should be used to that by now because you're certainly NOT the only one who has made that comparison AND youre not going to be the last.
Nightwish fans are very passionate about their favorite band and I can say the same for the band, they absolutely love their fans.
I know you can do without the Nightwish "lynch mob", but please, it's your channel and you are free to express yourself freely.
Not everyone will like what you have to say, and this goes for every reaction channel. It's not just you they swing at but you shouldn't even take that personal.
Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed.

This was song 13 of 15 for the show... I'd stick with Wacken 2013 and for your next, I'd say "Storytime" and then "Romanticide"...
My personal opinion back in 1996, the band was good. Tarja was the downfall. The band got better with Anette, but still was "MeH"... Now with Floor, I personally would argue that the 2013 arangement elevated the band to one of the greatest of all time status. The 2013 Wacken show, the ENTIRE show was 1000% on point. Up until 2020, the band has also produced many more AMAZING songs. I don't know what will come of Nightwish without Marco, but 2013-2020 was absolutely the greatest era of the band. In my opinion of course. One of my favorites that you will eventually get to if you stay in the rabbit hole is "The Greatest Show on Earth" Live at Tampere. This performance has pulled my head out of some dark places in the past and has definitely been on my playlists from the first time I've heard it.

There's nothing simple about Nightwish 😅 I second the proposal to watch the official video for Noise. They are mainly a live band so they rarely make music videos but when they do, they go all the way. If you would like a slightly shorter song but a very theatrical performance, I recommend to watch "Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean" live from Buenos Aires. "Romanticide" is a shorter song too, pretty heavy.

All of their songs are Nightwish (from Yours is an Empty Hope to Slow Love Slow) nothing is the same - every song is identifable by the intro. Sometimes Tuomas (keeboardist and composer) goes off the deep end and writes something epic and long (The Poet and The Pendulum, THe Greatest Show on Earth) but I think you want something like Storytime, Romanticide. Amyranth, Ever Dream, Song of Myself or I Wish I had and Angel for your next NIghtwish song.

Ashlena: To answer your question about Floor walking off stage, it was actually because of a wardrobe malfunction.
Earlier in the concert, before Bless the Child, Floor had changed her costume -- only to have a part of the torso piece come apart under her right arm, right near the armpit. So there had been a rush to try and fix it, and during Ghost Love Score was one of those times.
If you watch any of the earlier songs, like Dark Chest of Wonders or Ever Dream, you'll see Floor wearing a different costume than she does here.
Edit: For something simpler, I recommend Ever Dream, Storytime, or Nemo -- all from Wacken 2013. All of these songs are easy to listen to, and all of them, if American radio ever wanted to, could play them on-air.

Great reaction. Give Alpenglow or Elan a try. I've listened to Nightwish since their inception and feel, based on your insight to how you want to feel grounded to them, that both will provide a unique and beautiful rendition of who they are.

As an aside, Floor can do things with her voice Amy could only dream of
The notes she can hold... superb! They take a break, this is song 12 frome the concert, and Floor in a leather corset

Great reaction, another interesting video is to watch Floor Jansen's self reaction video singing this in yhis concert.
Other Nightwish songs you askef, all songs from this Wacken 2013 concert awhich GLS you just reacted. Romanticide, Nemo, Storytime, Ghost River, Song of myself to name in no particular order. The concert was one of the best in my opinion. Like The Warning's Teayro Metropolitan. What even your choose from NW or TW I gladly dtay with you.
