... Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. @@DrumRollTonyReacts I would like to assure you that Nightwish music will surprise you positively on several levels: the quality of the composition, the complexity of the orchestration, the high level of professionalism of all the musicians in the band, performed exceptionally vocal, in all eras of the band (from what I see, all these aspects interest you). They literally composed and performed an ocean of music during their 25 years of activity. Everywhere you look, you will find only diamonds and pearls ...
The internal tingles you got when Floor hit that last highest note, we call those Floorgasms, and yes she can make you feel that over and over at will. This band then and now are otherworldly. Tuomas Holopainen is the founder/keyboardist/songwriter/composer for the band. The whole thing starts in his mind, the Maestro.
"How did I not know about this band !".......my exact thought after hearing them for the first time. On that night all the planets and stars aligned and Nightwish performed at their very best.....the entire show is epic. Floor is nothing short of amazing, and Jukka on the drums is just killing it !

In this case, im glad I just discovered them. Would hate to be a tarja fan-boy, to the point where I won't even give floor a chance. This way, I got to discover all singers, all drummers, ect. Starts with 6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8 and then switches to 4/4, 4/4, 3/4, 4/4. Marko, the bassist does use a pick. He started with classical guitar training and then started to play the bass. I will be going to see them next Friday. Tuomas (keys) is the main composer for all music and lyrics for Nightwish. They do you actual Symphonic backing tracks to enhance the keyboard parts. @@DrumRollTonyReacts Personally, I'd argue for 12/8, 12/8, 10/8, 12/8. If you listen to the bass drum, he's fitting two sets of triplets in the first half of each bar. But you can also count 6, 6, 5, 6 from the upper instrumentation, so maybe it's 6/4 over 12/8 and so on. Whatever, it sounds really cool.

NYC concert was great and the fans were really hoping!! I was in the rafters and the sound was a bit distorted, but it was great to see them. I have heard several fan videos and the sound is good!
@@Zardagbum Honestly, I missed Marco, however, it was well worth it. I see NW is playing in South America in October and Marko is also playing there on the same 3 days. Hope they do a crossover and play Endlessness. I really wanted to see Marko do it live. I missed the harmonies with Floor, and the specific songs that Troy can't kind of cover. I'd go again because...it's Nightwish.

We will see, whether he will contribute to their new album. If so, this would be a perfect opportunity to pronounce his forthcoming turning-over from session player bassist Jukka at their next album tour 2023/24 which will make the fans cheering. Else it wouldn't make sense why he should incidentally crossing path with his fellow bandmates for 20 years. P.S. I like your rection. I'm also an American who also recently discovered Nightwish. Do yourself a favor and watch the entire Wachen show. I wish there was a better word than epic to describe it. The power of the performance literally brought tears to my eyes. I discovered them through Beat Saber of all things. Someone made an excellent custom map for Dark Chest of Wonders.
I was there, and it still brings tears to my eyes after all these years. I cried in the audience during "Nemo". Can't really explain why, it's all Floors fault.
Great Reaction! Bass player is Marko Hietala, amazing bass player and singer also. Finnish metal Legand/Pioneer. He use mostly Warvick basses. He unfortunately leave band year ago for personal/mental health reasons. He was replaced by Jukka Koskinen, also great bass player. Many American reactors have said that this song would be perfect Super Bowl half time song. They are just now touring in Kanda and Usa. Finnish metal band Beast in Black is supprt band. Their singer is also world class.

Interesting thing is that Nightwish current drummer Kai Hahto-> 2015 also has Jazz backround and had played jazz band in Finnland. He has taken private drum lessons jazz drummer legends in USA like Joe Morello, Freddie Gruber, Jim Chapin and John Riley. He also drum teacher.
Greetings Rob S. I am glad you found Nightwish and our Goddess Floor. Take a look at Gabriel's links and you will find so much amazing music. I am a lifelong Rush fan and started listening to them in 1976 with 2112, still my favorite album of all time, and got to see them live 19 times. I found Nightwish right before Rush retired and Neil Peart passed away. They have filled a void for me both musically and lyrically that I didn't think would ever happen. They have many songs that are very deep and meaningful sung by the most amazing vocalist in the world that will elicit so much emotion when you hear her.

Yes, Marco uses to play with pick and also fingers on his bas guitar. He is one of the most amazing bas players I have ever met so far. on keyboards we have Tuomas the Metal Mozart. Yes, their former bass player, Marco Hietala, predominantly used pick, though I have seen them in concert a couple times and noticed some songs where he tucked the pick against his palm in order to finger pluck and change the sound. Since you mentioned the appearance and sound of the bass itself, it's a custom job Warwick Vampyre. Fantastic bass for playing metal.
I attended my first Nightwish concert this week (albeit at a much smaller venue). As great as this is on video, it is beyond amazing live. And yes, this was in the States, so I can confirm that they tour here! Absolutely amazing live show!!!

All I can say is…you ain’t heard nothin’ yet. They are very diverse and versatile…no two songs really sound the same. The keyboards are prominent because Tuomas, the keyboardist, writes the vast majority of the music and lyrics. The orchestral backing track is actually recorded by the London Philharmonic. The band is Finnish, but Floor…the current vocalist…is from the Netherlands. She can sing literally anything…any song, any genre, any style…effortlessly. There is also a sixth member of the band, not seen in this performance, who is from the UK, and he plays Irish bagpipes, flutes and whistles, bouzouki, guitar, etc. From this same Wacken 2013 show, I’d recommend Song of Myself, Storytime, Romanticide and Everdream.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish, it is indeed a deep, deep rabbit hole!!! Floor had only been with the band for around 10 months when this concert took place, she stepped in at 48 hours notice whilst they were mid-tour in the US (there is a whole film called "Please learn the set list in 48 hours" available on youtube about it). Wacken 2013 will go down as one of the greatest shows ever by any band and what's even more amazing is that none of the songs were written with Floor in mind, they were all created for the previous 2 singer's voices and vocal nuances so she did an amazing job making them all her own. She had 82,000 people in the palm of her hand!

The mixed meter works as follows: 2 bars 6/8, 1@ 5/8 1 @ 6/8; then changes to 2 bars of 4/4, 1 @ 3/4 and 1 @ 4/4; then resolves to a "normal" 4/4. Floor Jansen the Queen of metal ❤️🔥is a classically trained and a professional voice coach with at least 20 plus years experience and can do anything from death metal growling to high opera notes and different styles and languages, her previous bands After Forever, Northward and Revamp and she was also featured in several Ayreon performances and a Dutch reality show beste zangers in 2019 and 2021, she is married to the drummer of the band Sabaton and has her own RUclips channel, and she is currently doing live shows for her solo album this and live shows with Nightwish 2022, awesome 😎
One of the best songwriting bands ever, I love the doors, sabbath, maiden, priest, but this is next level. Many more great bands after the recovery from the alterna grunge 90's death wave are avantasia, edguy, jinjer and unleash the archers.
I just saw them live in SF on the 18th and they did not disappoint. Yes there were orchestral backing tracks because musical genius Tuomas Halopainen compositions are more complicated than a six piece band can do LIVE. Plus, multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley made magic with his Celtic pipes and flutes. This band is so tight and talented and Floor Jansen sounds as good LIVE as she does in the studio. Especially considering it was their 9th stop in an 11 city N.American tour. The audience was treated to several Floor-gasms that night. Floor-gasm= coined by her fans describing the full body goosebumps that Floor Jansen can induce with just her voice.
To me when musicians react to Nigthwish, I would recommend paying attention to the singer Floor and consider her as another instrument in the band, as she does not just sing in a singular style, she uses her voices as an instrument and adapts it to whatever the song's music calls for.

The keyboard player is the composer of the group and you were correct in saying tracks....they often have actual well known symphonies record their tracks for them. Tip level musicianship across the board.
That singer her name is Floor Jensen she is a vocal coach a classically trained soprano but don’t let that fool you she goes into these low demon like gritty growls that will blow your mind this band could do it all they’re very much alive band in my opinion Thomas who is the keyboardist is also their main composer he does 90% of the writing and lyrics and what have you I’m sure Gabriel will stick his head in here and give you a better rundown if I were you I think the next song should be ghost River or weak fantasy. Also Marco the bass player who has since left the band for me reasons due to the music industry and such plus he was a lot older than the rest of the group anyway he just won this last year Finland‘s masked singer so he is a phenomenal vocalist as well welcome to the Nightwish group you’re going to meet the army they will show up In big groups and we lovingly call what floor does to people usually the goosebumps and whatever else with her singing what you’ve had is called a “Floor-gasm”

The drummer was officially replaced with Kai (from Wintersun) first on a temporary and later on a permanent basis when he had to step down from touring and drumming due to severe insomna. The basist Jukka stepped up when Marko wend on hiatus last year, currently as touring member for the Human :||: Nature tour. His first appearance was at the virtual shows Nightwish gave last year.
Welcome Tony. Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Welcome to the wonderful world of symphonic metal and the foremost band in the genre, Nightwish. Don't feel bad about not knowing about them. I discovered them about 2 years ago on another reaction channel and it changed my world. It opened up a whole world of beautiful, complex, and intelligent music that exist's outside of the US and that isn't just pretty to listen too but makes you think. This genre is to complex and the songs to long to fit into US corporate music and so never shows up on radio. Nightwish is currently touring the US this month. One bonus of them not being well known in the US is they play smaller venues and it is easier to see and hear them. I saw them 6 days ago in Boston in a college hockey arena with about 3000 other fans. It was magical and life changing. The band is even more amazing in real life. Not sure where you are located but if you can see a show you definitely need to go. Floor is our Dutch Valkyrie Queen (6 foot Valkyre Queen!) and she can sing anything. Many fans have commented on how she could sing the phonebook. She recently released her first solo single, Fire, (amazing, Floor being Floor) and was performing it live on a Dutch radio show to promote it and the host asked her to sing the phonebook. I flew planes in the Navy and our carrier was homeported in Bremerton. We would come up from San Diego and load our gear on the ship and then have a few days to kill before pulling out to sea. We would head to Seattle or Vancouver and enjoy the nightlife. I never made it to Vancouver but I loved Seattle. You should checkout Unleash the Archers. Thank you so much for picking apart some of the song structure, it a great pleasure a watch a true professional having a go at it. The RUclips community needs more people like you! Aside of the technical aspect, I'm impressed at be how much fun the band seemed to have. It's a fairly complex piece, but still just bringing it home to the final high belt, and the just rocking out until the quire has sung its pat to the end.
Dutch vocalist Floor Jansen has recently (since 2019) been doing solo projects. She's the only reason I've watched Nightwish and then just this specific concert. Back to Floor. Solo of "Shallow", duet Phantom of the Opera", Amsterdam solo concert - "Storm in a Glass" , "Slow Love Slow" and newly released live version of "Fire". I was able to see them Live in Denver Colorado this year. The transition from the opening band Beast in Black over to Nightwish took about 30 to 45 minutes. The sound guys for Nightwish have been doing this for quite a while and they put a lot of effort into making sure stuff is balanced, even live. The Mission Ballroom where I saw them was a very small indoor venue, and they STILL managed to make the band sound pretty much just like this big open air concert. I am not sure if you have gotten to a song with him yet but Troy, another band member, is able to join in on some of these big epic songs with a flute or a tin whistle or pipes and is still very much present in the mix of the song. Nightwish really does just sound this good, and it is pretty insane.
The volume issue has been FIXED since this was recorded. It was a level issue in OBS I was not aware of. 🎶

Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.

Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. After several rescheduling, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the concert took place at the beginning of September 2021 in 3 consecutive days. The internal tingles you got when Floor hit that last highest note, we call those Floorgasms, and yes she can make you feel that over and over at will. This band then and now are otherworldly. Tuomas Holopainen is the founder/keyboardist/songwriter/composer for the band. The whole thing starts in his mind, the Maestro.
"How did I not know about this band !".......my exact thought after hearing them for the first time. On that night all the planets and stars aligned and Nightwish performed at their very best.....the entire show is epic. Floor is nothing short of amazing, and Jukka on the drums is just killing it !

Starts with 6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8 and then switches to 4/4, 4/4, 3/4, 4/4. Marko, the bassist does use a pick. He started with classical guitar training and then started to play the bass. I will be going to see them next Friday.
Tuomas (keys) is the main composer for all music and lyrics for Nightwish. They do you actual Symphonic backing tracks to enhance the keyboard parts. A rare and special live band with the amazing Dutch Valkyrie queen of symphonic metal, Floor Jansen. ☝🔥🔥🔥

@@DrumRollTonyReacts Personally, I'd argue for 12/8, 12/8, 10/8, 12/8. If you listen to the bass drum, he's fitting two sets of triplets in the first half of each bar. But you can also count 6, 6, 5, 6 from the upper instrumentation, so maybe it's 6/4 over 12/8 and so on. Whatever, it sounds really cool.
I will argue that Tuomas does not do all, just like 95% of the composing and lyrics;)

NYC concert was great and the fans were really hoping!! I was in the rafters and the sound was a bit distorted, but it was great to see them. I have heard several fan videos and the sound is good!

I'd go again because...it's Nightwish.

Great Reaction! Bass player is Marko Hietala, amazing bass player and singer also. Finnish metal Legand/Pioneer. He use mostly Warvick basses. He unfortunately leave band year ago for personal/mental health reasons. He was replaced by Jukka Koskinen, also great bass player. Many American reactors have said that this song would be perfect Super Bowl half time song. They are just now touring in Kanda and Usa. Finnish metal band Beast in Black is supprt band. Their singer is also world class.

Interesting thing is that Nightwish current drummer Kai Hahto-> 2015 also has Jazz backround and had played jazz band in Finnland. He has taken private drum lessons jazz drummer legends in USA like Joe Morello, Freddie Gruber, Jim Chapin and John Riley. He also drum teacher.

Greetings Rob S. I am glad you found Nightwish and our Goddess Floor. Take a look at Gabriel's links and you will find so much amazing music. I am a lifelong Rush fan and started listening to them in 1976 with 2112, still my favorite album of all time, and got to see them live 19 times.
I found Nightwish right before Rush retired and Neil Peart passed away. They have filled a void for me both musically and lyrically that I didn't think would ever happen. They have many songs that are very deep and meaningful sung by the most amazing vocalist in the world that will elicit so much emotion when you hear her.
Welcome to arguably the best metal band in the world today and definitely the best female vocalist around. 💥💥💥💥
welcome to te world of reacting. I was in that crowd in Wacken. It was awesome and there were around 85'000 people in that crowd .... Yes, Marco uses to play with pick and also fingers on his bas guitar. He is one of the most amazing bas players I have ever met so far. on keyboards we have Tuomas the Metal Mozart. It's not songwriting, it's composing what he does. This band is awesome, even Marco has left the band in 2021. If you need any recommendations, just let us know and we will overwhelm you 🙃

Yes, their former bass player, Marco Hietala, predominantly used pick, though I have seen them in concert a couple times and noticed some songs where he tucked the pick against his palm in order to finger pluck and change the sound.
Since you mentioned the appearance and sound of the bass itself, it's a custom job Warwick Vampyre. Fantastic bass for playing metal.
I attended my first Nightwish concert this week (albeit at a much smaller venue). As great as this is on video, it is beyond amazing live. And yes, this was in the States, so I can confirm that they tour here! Absolutely amazing live show!!!

Yes, Empu can shred with anyone but shows his true greatness by always playing within the song, giving it what it needs and no more. Yes, Marko plays with a pick as he is a fine guitarist as well as bassist. And what more can be said about Floor, our Valkyrie Queen! May I suggest that if your style is to be reacting on top of the music instead of pausing, that you lower you mike volume in comparison to the music to provide better balance. All I can say is…you ain’t heard nothin’ yet. They are very diverse and versatile…no two songs really sound the same. The keyboards are prominent because Tuomas, the keyboardist, writes the vast majority of the music and lyrics. The orchestral backing track is actually recorded by the London Philharmonic. The band is Finnish, but Floor…the current vocalist…is from the Netherlands. She can sing literally anything…any song, any genre, any style…effortlessly. There is also a sixth member of the band, not seen in this performance, who is from the UK, and he plays Irish bagpipes, flutes and whistles, bouzouki, guitar, etc. From this same Wacken 2013 show, I’d recommend Song of Myself, Storytime, Romanticide and Everdream.

Well you living in the US, might explain why you haven't heard of Nightwish and Floor Jansen - while Symphonic Metal is almost none existing in the US - and Nightwish are the number one band in Symphonic Metal. And Floor Jansen - the greatest singer in the world in this century, the most versatile, powerful, skilled and talented storyteller...
Let's just say, that you have just opened the door to a unique universe of music, that you don't hear in the US, mainly while all of the songs are longer than the 3 - 4 minutes, the radio allows.
The composer (keyboard) is worldwide known as "The Metal Mozart" or "The modern Mozart" - and Floor Jansen is - - - she is Floor.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish, it is indeed a deep, deep rabbit hole!!! Floor had only been with the band for around 10 months when this concert took place, she stepped in at 48 hours notice whilst they were mid-tour in the US (there is a whole film called "Please learn the set list in 48 hours" available on youtube about it). Wacken 2013 will go down as one of the greatest shows ever by any band and what's even more amazing is that none of the songs were written with Floor in mind, they were all created for the previous 2 singer's voices and vocal nuances so she did an amazing job making them all her own. She had 82,000 people in the palm of her hand!
I count 17 key changes in this song. The keyboard player, Tuomas, writes and composes some 90% of their music.

I saw them in OKC during their Endless Forms most Beautiful tour in 2015. I was lucky to get introduced to them around 2007-08 because one of my friends played their music at his store.

The mixed meter works as follows: 2 bars 6/8, 1@ 5/8 1 @ 6/8; then changes to 2 bars of 4/4, 1 @ 3/4 and 1 @ 4/4; then resolves to a "normal" 4/4. Other meter changes appear throughout the song - nothing simple from Nightwish and Tuomas Holopainen! I think I'm right - people will correct me if I'm not lol!
Always love seeing people who really know their music appreciate NW as much as you do… You can disect the composition in all it’s details, yet still be amazed at how it was imagined by the composer as well as the way it’s performed by this magical band..

Yes they completed the US tour a few days ago. Pretty small venues too. I was at the NYC show. Unbelievable. Still reliving it!
Looks like we're about the same age, and I've listened to metal my whole life and never heard of them. Now I can't get enough, which is what brought me here. There's a wealth of Nightwish to react to, and I'll suggest checking out Unleash The Archers as well. Cheers.

Floor Jansen the Queen of metal ❤️🔥is a classically trained and a professional voice coach with at least 20 plus years experience and can do anything from death metal growling to high opera notes and different styles and languages, her previous bands After Forever, Northward and Revamp and she was also featured in several Ayreon performances and a Dutch reality show beste zangers in 2019 and 2021, she is married to the drummer of the band Sabaton and has her own RUclips channel, and she is currently doing live shows for her solo album this and live shows with Nightwish 2022, awesome 😎
One of the best songwriting bands ever, I love the doors, sabbath, maiden, priest, but this is next level. Many more great bands after the recovery from the alterna grunge 90's death wave are avantasia, edguy, jinjer and unleash the archers.
I just saw them live in SF on the 18th and they did not disappoint. Yes there were orchestral backing tracks because musical genius Tuomas Halopainen compositions are more complicated than a six piece band can do LIVE. Plus, multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley made magic with his Celtic pipes and flutes. This band is so tight and talented and Floor Jansen sounds as good LIVE as she does in the studio. Especially considering it was their 9th stop in an 11 city N.American tour. The audience was treated to several Floor-gasms that night. Floor-gasm= coined by her fans describing the full body goosebumps that Floor Jansen can induce with just her voice.

Floor is the greatest vocalist on the planet. She is all that is holy.
To me when musicians react to Nigthwish, I would recommend paying attention to the singer Floor and consider her as another instrument in the band, as she does not just sing in a singular style, she uses her voices as an instrument and adapts it to whatever the song's music calls for.

The keyboard player is the composer of the group and you were correct in saying tracks....they often have actual well known symphonies record their tracks for them. Tip level musicianship across the board.
That singer her name is Floor Jensen she is a vocal coach a classically trained soprano but don’t let that fool you she goes into these low demon like gritty growls that will blow your mind this band could do it all they’re very much alive band in my opinion Thomas who is the keyboardist is also their main composer he does 90% of the writing and lyrics and what have you I’m sure Gabriel will stick his head in here and give you a better rundown if I were you I think the next song should be ghost River or weak fantasy. Also Marco the bass player who has since left the band for me reasons due to the music industry and such plus he was a lot older than the rest of the group anyway he just won this last year Finland‘s masked singer so he is a phenomenal vocalist as well welcome to the Nightwish group you’re going to meet the army they will show up In big groups and we lovingly call what floor does to people usually the goosebumps and whatever else with her singing what you’ve had is called a “Floor-gasm”

@@DrumRollTonyReacts The new bassplayers name is Jukka, not to be confused with the Jukka who is drumming on this particular video. The drummer was officially replaced with Kai (from Wintersun) first on a temporary and later on a permanent basis when he had to step down from touring and drumming due to severe insomna. The basist Jukka stepped up when Marko wend on hiatus last year, currently as touring member for the Human :||: Nature tour. His first appearance was at the virtual shows Nightwish gave last year.
That is not (all) synth strings, that is London Philharmonic Orchestra. And London Metro Voices choir. With Tuomas playing some parts on keyboard.

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. This was Floor Jensen's first full concert as a member of Nightwish and their third lead singer and in my opinion the most versatile and best.I had my first floorgasm a couple of years ago and have been a fan every since. Welcome to the wonderful world of symphonic metal and the foremost band in the genre, Nightwish. Don't feel bad about not knowing about them. I discovered them about 2 years ago on another reaction channel and it changed my world. It opened up a whole world of beautiful, complex, and intelligent music that exist's outside of the US and that isn't just pretty to listen too but makes you think. This genre is to complex and the songs to long to fit into US corporate music and so never shows up on radio. Nightwish is currently touring the US this month. One bonus of them not being well known in the US is they play smaller venues and it is easier to see and hear them. I saw them 6 days ago in Boston in a college hockey arena with about 3000 other fans. It was magical and life changing. The band is even more amazing in real life. Not sure where you are located but if you can see a show you definitely need to go. Floor is our Dutch Valkyrie Queen (6 foot Valkyre Queen!) and she can sing anything. Many fans have commented on how she could sing the phonebook. She recently released her first solo single, Fire, (amazing, Floor being Floor) and was performing it live on a Dutch radio show to promote it and the host asked her to sing the phonebook. @@DrumRollTonyReacts San Francisco is the show closest to you. If it works I highly recommend going. Used to go to Seattle a bunch back in the late 80s. I flew planes in the Navy and our carrier was homeported in Bremerton. We would come up from San Diego and load our gear on the ship and then have a few days to kill before pulling out to sea. We would head to Seattle or Vancouver and enjoy the nightlife. I never made it to Vancouver but I loved Seattle. You should checkout Unleash the Archers. Old school power metal band with a female lead singer who sounds like the offspring of DIo and Bruse Dickerson. They are from Vancouver and are amazing, virtuosic musicians. Aside of the technical aspect, I'm impressed at be how much fun the band seemed to have. It's a fairly complex piece, but still just bringing it home to the final high belt, and the just rocking out until the quire has sung its pat to the end.

Dutch vocalist Floor Jansen has recently (since 2019) been doing solo projects. She's the only reason I've watched Nightwish and then just this specific concert. Back to Floor. Solo of "Shallow", duet Phantom of the Opera", Amsterdam solo concert - "Storm in a Glass" , "Slow Love Slow" and newly released live version of "Fire". Gosh, Nightwish makes me proud to be Finnish and a rock/metal listener
I was able to see them Live in Denver Colorado this year. The transition from the opening band Beast in Black over to Nightwish took about 30 to 45 minutes. The sound guys for Nightwish have been doing this for quite a while and they put a lot of effort into making sure stuff is balanced, even live. The Mission Ballroom where I saw them was a very small indoor venue, and they STILL managed to make the band sound pretty much just like this big open air concert. I am not sure if you have gotten to a song with him yet but Troy, another band member, is able to join in on some of these big epic songs with a flute or a tin whistle or pipes and is still very much present in the mix of the song.
Nightwish really does just sound this good, and it is pretty insane.
Sound team is such a crucial part of any gig. Props to them
