I was at their concert four weeks ago and yes - although sitting somewhere in the back had to wear ear protection too.
If you liked this one, you will love all of them. Tuomas/keyboards, founder, composer, does not write filler songs. Some of the instruments you heard actually came from a backing tape compose with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Choir sounds are from real choirs. just a site note .... oh ... how I miss Jukka Nevalainen he was such a awesome drummer. he had power, passion and was a very melodic drummer. a good metronome but also very passionate but did accentuate each stroke. his double paddle work will always be remembered-
I've been wearing ear plugs to concerts since the late 90's. I learned after the first 15-20 concerts, that the ear ringing thing for a 24-48 hours afterwards was no longer "cool".
Tuomas the keyboardist and main song writer, plays mainly strings in a percussive fashion to counter-balance the legato orchestration or piano. The orchestra and choir are recorded live with the London Philharmonic and then played live with backing tracks using Pro Tools, see the video below for their live rig.

I may be mistaken, but I remember it being mentioned in one of the making of videos for EFMB, video #8 I think, they mention that the instrumentalist worked on movie scores like Star Wars movies and pretty much most movie scores are recorded with the musicians from the London Philharmonic.

You can safely react to more of Nightwish's music 🙂 They have made so much good music for so long. All tracks are very different and yet easily recognisable. They never get boring to listen to.

If you want to hear gritty growling vocals from Floor Jansen, look no further than 2010 Grasspop when she was with her former band ReVamp performing "Disdain".
The background vocals and orchestra are on a backing track that the band syncs with via a click track. There are two choirs, a children's choir whose name I can never remember and an adult choir "Metro Voices" of London. The orchestral part is sometimes a synth string pad and sometimes the London Philharmonic Orchestra on a. track. Sir, the music in the background is also composed By Tuomas (keys) and written for the London Symphonic orchestra and awsome choirs. Yes they recorded it, because taking a huge philarmonice orchestra on tour is undoable and they also have their own programm.
Floor (singer from Holland) is a fully trained classical singer and finishes the opera &theatre class in conservatory and the rockacedemy. She is the female singer with the broadest range and obvious he reaches high notes like F6 like it's nothing. She sings fully operatic, (she did perform opera's) , chest voice and she belts like no other. Oh and she screams and growls. She does this for 26 years, so she knows what she is doing. Her voice together with Marko's (high hopes) is beautiful, they harmonize so good together.

Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.

Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F5).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the set list in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

I almost died of laughter when I saw your F5🤣, in this video, in the song ghost love score at the end, Floor rises in a chesty voice much higher than F5, F5 it's too low compared to the highest Floor note, the highest note Floor in video concerts on youtube it F6 note, so it's correct from Eb2 to F6).

Hella Mattie, welcome into the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredible talented female vocalist Floor Jansen.
So you just experienced Floor Jansen (pronounce Yahn-Sen). Although the band is Finnish, their 3rd singer is not, she is Dutch, lives with her husband Hannes van Dahl, the drummer of the band Sabaton and daughter in Sweden. Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career (initially) just as the background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997, but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons.
On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 (while she was within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Floor replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. After one year (shortly after the Wacken Open Air festival concert 2013) on October 9th 2013, it was announced that she was to become the group's regular new front singer.

Nightwish, After Forever and ReVamp worked under the same Nuclear Blast record label. Tuomas and Floor know each other since August 20th, 2002 when Nightwish played in a sold-out and swelteringly hot “Hof Ter Lo” in Antwerp with After Forever and Charon as support act.

@Music by Mattie Reacts!: First, in terms of production, I think you'll like two Nightwish masterpieces: Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley 2016), and The Greatest Show On Earth (Tampere 2015 -- this one is outdoors, and is over 24 minutes long.) The thing is, with Nightwish, Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist, is Nightwish's main composer, and has written about everything from depression (Poet and the Pendulum) to the origin of Earth, and Earth's 4.6 billion-year history (The Greatest Show On Earth).
That being said, I have a couple of other bands that have some amazing production quality: Sabaton and Bloodywood.
Sabaton is a Swedish power metal band that sings about military history. I highly recommend reacting to Christmas Truce, a song about the "Christmas Truce" of World War I.
Bloodywood is an Indian folk metal band from New Delhi, India. They combine traditional Indian instruments with Nu-Metal (2000s era) and electronica. I highly recommend the song Aaj (pronounced "Ah-j"), a Hindi word meaning "today." They have one singer and one rapper, and the singer actually does a lot of growling.

The keyboard player writes and conducts the orchestra and choir backing tracks and most of the songs and music. That drummer is one of the best ever, he had to retire for health reasons after seven albums with this band. Europe as you can see is a vastly different place musically then the dead u.s., most of the good bands hail from there, unleash the archers are from canada.
And then he was replaced by a friend one of the other best ever.

I always wear earplugs to concerts too, especially when i get to the pitt.
The orchestral and choral parts have been recorded in collaboration with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and they play as a background track in many songs in the concert. The band plays in exactly the same rhythm.

London Philharmonic Orchestra played backing track. Tuomas, keyboards, plays lead instruments he chooses as well as arpeggios and chords! London Metro Choir also recorded the backing choir vocals. Floor is classically trained but can sing anything and has - literally the phone book! Her stage presence is massive! Jukka on drums really kills it in the best way - on this and every track! And think this concert was in 2013 end of summer, Floor slotted previous Lead singer's spot from mid 2012. She had been in the band only 8 to 9 months at this point. And pulling songs like that, cudos to her.

Welcome to Nightwish, one of the best ever bands. I'm a senior citizen, lifelong musician, member of the NW army. Good reaction but too many pauses, you will end up confusing yourself. You clearly know your stuff, but many of us have heard dozens of reactions to this, including by other musicians and producers. Listen and learn from us as well. Gabriel's list is a good place to start. I've been happy to hear NW in concert, Floor is one of the best singers I've ever heard, and I've heard the greats from pop. jazz, prog etc. So versatile.! as is the band. This band is the best, never a flaw. And Floor - the most skilled singer ever. When you think you have this band figured out they will amaze you with something new.
I don't think she's the most skilled, but certainly the most versatile singer. She _can_ do some really good growling, but it's not really her thing, so there definitely are better ones. She also doesn't come close to an actual good opera singer (just listen to for example Sarah Brightman, let alone legends like Montserrat Caballé...). But that's why I only _liked_ Nightwish with Tarja, and _love_ them with Floor now - because Floor is so versatile, while Tarja was more or less a one-trick-pony ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Floor is the third singer and the only one capable of singing the rock screaming and growling but rarely does it with Nightwish. Every song (15) at this Wacken 2013 concert was written for previous two singers, Tarja (operatic) and Anette (pop) and Floor joined mid tour with 48 hours to learn the setlist and this is ten months later so well up to speed. By the way, if you heard the original version of this it would not have had the variety of vocal techniques and not the belted ending which Floor added to the song.

Marko is playing Warwick Buzzard, which really cuts through the mix. Warwicks have a lot of bite & punch and Buzzard especially.
Since late 2012, when Floor joined Nightwish, OMG now stands for "Oh My Goddess". "Oh My God" is so las century.
So the the orchestral & choral parts are a backing track played from Tuomas's mixing station. They are the London Philharmonic & London Metro Voices respectively Pip Williams composing. The only complaint I have with this version is that the choral parts seem to be quieter than in the past they were much more noticeable. Tuomas doesn't really write gutturals, for Nightwish, other than a little in "your's Is An Empty Hope" with Floor, or "Pharaoh Sails To Orion" & "Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean" (If Tapio is available). For his harsher stuff check out his black metal band Darkwoods My Betrothed. There are however more examples for our metal valkyrie Floor doing harsh vocals with Revamp mostly "Distain" & "Misery's No Crime" or to a lesser extent "Wild Card" & "Precibus". Nice reaction. Enjoying your comment, and happy you found pretty good timing on the pauses. This is one of the best concerts with one of the best band member composition ever at Wacken in 2013. Interesting enough Floor joined the band about half a year before this gig as a stand-in for the at that time regular singer, who had health problems during the tour. She basically learned the set-list in 48 hours and added the final belt in this song as her personal hallmark, which has had an enormously positive reaction from fans worldwide.
Floor became the new main vocalist later after this tour and with her versatility a new chapter with new songs started. One of the most impressive pieces are "The greatest Show on Earth", a massive long masterpiece. There are two notable concert recordings of that song. One in Tampa, Finland with fireworks and awesome timing, but missing the outro in the RUclips video I found. The other one in Wembley with no fireworks, but nice outro including a famous scientific book author on whose work the album of that song was based.
I like both and don't know which one to recommend more.

If you want to listen to Floor in full beast mode watch her with her former band ReVamp "Disdain" (Graspop 2010) or "Misery's no crime" (with a lot of growling). By the way, the orchestral parts had been recorded at London with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (Tuomas composed also these parts) and then later on stage they are being imported to support the live music.
We consider this song to be the "introduction song" to Nightwish and what they bring to the table, and while it is an amazing and much beloved song, this is not even remotely their best song.
And that is being said by someone who absolutely is head over heels in love with this song, so go figure what else they have to offer ;)
The level they are operating at is something you do not often see, the attention to detail is incredibly high, and the knowledge of their respective instruments is beyond master levels.
What is a big draw for me in Nightwish is the fact that everyone is on equal terms and they all serve the song, not themselves, you wont see unneeded showboating with them.
Take for instance that perfect solo by Empu, not a note too much, not a note to few, the solo serves the song and doesn't outstay it's welcome, that to me is the sign of a "master" to me.
It is always like that, nobody overplays his or her instrument at any time, the song is leading them, not the other way around.. i just love that and it is something you do not see too often.
I suggest like everyone else, to explore more of this band, you will find that they are one of the most versatile bands you've ever seen and heard.
It's their best song in terms of buildup.

You'll see quite a few people wearing ear protection at Wacken (and various other metal concerts _at least_ in Germany, I don't know enough about southern or eastern Europe in that regard). People know it's a good thing to protect your hearing, and yeah, you _hear_ pretty much everything, but it can be so loud that can enjoy _feeling_ it, too, without damaging your eardrums :)
